I'm sorry, but I just don't see the good old "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" relevant for quite a while now. No one cares about motorcycles anymore; like, no one. The new generations have no interest in riding and no money for what is becoming a more and more expensive hobbie. It's not just KTM in dire straits, it's the industry as a whole.

Your reasoning makes sense for Europe and the USA, but there's a big error with that reasoning. The largest motorcycle market is by far in Asia, that's where real money is made, and in some of those countries people really like to buy the brands they see racing. That's why on the last years, MotoGP has been racing on Indonesia and Thailand. Those markets allow you to sell millions of bikes every single year, and it's going up every single year. Of course, the main market is focused on 125-400cc motorbikes, but the amount is so big that it's more profitable.

They are gone. Corporate announcements for public consumption at times like this are meaningless. Racing means a lot for people in KTM that work in the racing department. No one should kid themselves that anyone in KTM management looks at racing as anything other than a business division that needs to demonstrate they are bringing in more cash than they cost. Suzuki have quit factory supported racing, now Kawasaki is gone, and those companies have a much greater history in racing than KTM, and yes, I am counting dirt bikes. Those two companies are running motorcycle businesses in the same world, and are both financially healthy companies, yet they did not see the economic benefit at this time, so why would KTM be different especially when they are bleeding cash?

KTM motorcycles are a lot of fun to ride, but when they break down, it's a disaster. The lack of spare parts and long waiting times frustrate motorcycle owners who wait months for their motorcycle to be repaired. The quality control is hopeless and additional fees for equipment that turns off after 1,000 kilometers are the main reasons for customer anger.

Kawasaki did the same thing in 09 and saved themselves from poring cash and getting no return. Sometimes it is fine to leave aside the "Racing Heritage" and focus on how to make the brand survive. KTM should do the same thing after 2025 season to focus more on their road bikes.

The sad thing is that KTM has nobody to blame but themselves. They made the choice to put almost all their R&D and their best mechanics into MotoGP at the cost of all other divisions and now they're facing the consequences of that ill thought out strategy. From all the complaints about KTM bikes, it's clear both the R&D and the quality have taken a huge hit and their products aren't reliable anymore. Add to that that they're competing in a very competitive market and the downfall had to come quickly and devastatingly. KTM seems to have completely forgotten, or ignored, that it's the commercial divisions that pay for the racing division, not the other way around.

No it wouldnt solve anything. 2021 lots of ppl bought bikes, ktm and others upped production. BUT kawasaki etc will tell you the mass market superbike is DEAD. Bikes arent offering benefits advancment enough to really help the market. Ppl just dont buy new superbikes anymore.the x bow etc cost vs sales where horrid. So ktm screwed themselves overproducibg and expanding. So its possible they restructure etc but they have motogp contract thru 2026, upgrades and r&d will drop. Acosta must hope the pre restructure upgrades are enough. Cause 2026 ktm may be gone. Bmw ducatti aprillia can justify a premium price and keep the small production market alive. Ktm reached too far and strayed from the bespoke premium bike for mass market, which like i said it doesnt exist

@@captaintoyota3171 Nah this dude isn't wrong. I did look at KTM's when I bought a new superbike this year. Test rode a ton of bikes (SFV4, PanV4s, R1, SupDuk, GSX1R, etc), and I loved the feel of the Super Duke, but I couldn't get over the looks. I ended up with an RSV4. MotoGP really doesn't make sense for KTM. KTM doesn't even have a street legal Superbike, so why bother with MotoGP? I'd love a KTM V4 superbike with lights but the best they offer are bug faced Naked V2s. Outside of the dirt side (had a 701 in the past), the bikes are ugly.
I disagree with the superbikes are dying (I accept I could be wrong), but with all cars costing more and performance cars becoming completely out of reach for most. What other option would a speed obsessed lad have but superbikes or hyper nakeds?

The most single idiotic thing they have done is invest in moto gp!!! bread and butter from my perspective was motorcross, enduro and Dakar. Drop the moto gp program like a hot potato and let it go!!! Second idiotic thing they did was not have good engineers that could detect an issue prior to launch and quality control to catch it and then allowing so many bikes to be released knowing the issues at hand. Growth is great! Every company wants growth, growth is great, but I think they outgrew themselves. I think they should have been more conservative in their growth and focused on the quality of product and allow the market to adapt to their output with the quality of product output with growth being moderate to assure future sales to become demand instead and being ahead of the curve instead of trying to be ahead of the curve and producing subpar products. The moto gp program was a silly stab in the dark. Street has not really been their focus, so in doing so to 'compete' against brands that have more street oriented bikes was a silly move and has cost them HUNDREDS of millions of Euros with no apparent payoff. Another cool project that I have not seen significant payoff, although I admit I have no seen the numbers is the XBow project. I have NEVER seen one here in the states, NEVER!!! Why waste the money on that??? How did Coke become the leading soda company, sticking to one basic thing, what about Starbuck, same, and the list of other generational companies, similar. Although, yes there are some that branched and pivoted, yet stuck with original idea of what they developed and sold. I don't know if bringing in other brands like GasGas has helped, I think not. I think they shot themselves in the foot with such foolish investments in programs that do not bring in revenue along with quality and such issues. Too bad!! I will continue to buy 990 adv's like the one I have and some of the bikes that I know were quality built before this debacle.

Those dual purpose disasters need to go as well. They have lost the trust in that market with the can shaft and other customer relations issues. Ditch that line and start from scratch when the business model is right. Continue with the Motocross and Off road market with the conventional bikes.
