    Thumbs up good idea. Instead of using pvc pipe what I use are fishing float tubes that have water proof plugs the sizes are 15 3/4 inch by 1.8 inches, metric 40cm x 4.6 cm. As my workshop is not heated and do not used regularly it gets damp. As I am only a hobbyist I have only few tubes but you have shown me how to make a rack for them.Thank you very much.

    Great organisation system
    I wonder if these should be capped to keep them cleaner though

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  5 лет назад +1

      You certainly could cap each tube. I don't have a lot of dust in my welding area, so this system seems to fit my needs pretty well.

    Thank you for your videos. I see you used a power bead roller. What would you consider to be necessary expensive tools vs. nice to have expensive tools?

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  5 лет назад

      Your question is a little too broad to answer. If you can be a little more specific, perhaps I can give you a good answer. For example, specifically what kinds of tools are you talking about?

    • @SteveRivett
      @SteveRivett 5 лет назад

      @@RonCovell Hi Ron, my question revolves around metal shaping and 1930's vehicle repair. I guess another way to pose the question is what order would you recommend metal shaping tools be purchased in? I've got a MIG/TIG welder, a gas welding outfit, hand bead roller, foot powered shrinker/stretcher, and some hammers/dolly's. I'm struggling to figure out if I shop jump for a wheeling machine or if I can live without it. It's a hard question to answer but I would appreciate any input you provide. Cheers, Steve

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  5 лет назад

      Wheeling machines save a lot of time, and a skilled operator can make panels with nearly a mirror finish. You can accomplish nearly the same work with hand tools, but once you become accustomed to the benefits of an English wheel, it's hard to go back!

    I made one for my tubes of electronic ICs and IC sockets, out of the same black PVC pipe, but just used urethane construction adhesive to just glue them together. Your looks awesome... mine... no so much... but its functional. 👍

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  6 лет назад

      Well, being functional is certainly beneficial, but I like to add a little 'style' to the things I make.

    Ron, what size is your welding torch? Thanks

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  5 лет назад +1

      The water-cooled torch I use most often is the HW-20 equivalent. I also have an air cooled torch, but I don't use it as often because it's more bulky.

    This is a very professional project . Nice looking finished product.
    But, don;t let a toolmaker watch you scribing with a dial caliper. You can use a cheap Harbor Fright caliper for that.

    • @RonCovell
      @RonCovell  6 лет назад

      Jay - Thanks so much! Yes, I know that some people 'cringe' when they see me using a dial caliper as a marking tool. I respect their right to use their tools as they prefer, and I'm going to continue using my caliper to mark parts, whether they like it or not!

      YES - absolutely! I made the holder for the tubes from metal, because that is my favored material. You could do something quite similar using wood, so a brake and shear wouldn't be required.

      I have been a professional metalworker for over 50 years, and over that time it's true that I have spent thousands of dollars on tools and equipment. In my early years I had almost no equipment, and still figured out how to make the things I wanted to make. If you look at my videos, and others on RUclips, you will see lots of ways to do good work with simple tools.
