I know you've said these style videos generally get lower views, the DIY stuff is always immediately captivating for me. Gives me inspiration to work on my own space.
Jayz next pc build is gonna be made out of legos confirm.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought of it
Lego OS LOL
there is one Paul built it a bit ago.
"Duuuuuuude, I BUILT my first PC"
@@chrissimpson1183 LegOS
Lego space is where inner peace happens
You mean piece right?
Though that inner peace usually only last until you inevitably step on a random piece of Lego you dropped and forgot about.
Also good basic guide for finding the stud is just start lightly knocking the wall.
The space between studs sounds more hollow and where the stud roughly is, it sound more high pitched.
Also if you are still unsure, drill a smaller hole first, if you slightly miss, you can still probably hide the test hole inside the slightly corrected adjustments.
Frankly the amount of great sets that Lego has begun to release directed towards adults and advanced techniques has made it a great hobby for all ages. I'm jealous of your whole family having this as a hobby to share. I've tried in the past. My daughter likes to help sometimes, but it really isn't her thing.
I recently discovered that I can save the PDF of LEGO instructions onto my Jellyfin server, and pull them up on my TV. It was surreal and awesome seeing the instructions so big, it made me want to build something.
I was building with my 5-yr-old with my 20-yr-old's legos. He wanted a custom tow truck that uses a big lego hook he found. I built a 6-wheel sci-fi truck with a quad-cannon laser turret on top, instead. 😂
Legos are one of the greatest inventions of all time. We played with them constantly as kids (technic stuff) and I still believe that led me to where I'm at, owning a Performance Automotive shop and being extremely mechanical and being able to think through problems!
Big part of why I love modded Minecraft so much. It's like I get Lego building and able to change the look with texture packs and being able to add more pieces with the likes of bibliocraft since it adds a ton of extra build items like lamps desks and other things
Can confirm. Give your kids Legos. I credit that early childhood Lego building (and also Erector Set) with helping me develop an engineering mindset. I started building PCs when I was 15 (it's like advanced Legos), and got into IT. I'm now a Network Engineer, but I think that early development really got me into problem solving and building.
@thestig007 hell yeah! That's a great journey man 😎💪
LEGO. Stop putting an S on a word that has no plural form...
"Look I'm touching grass" I'm rolling with laughter. Loving this video though. I love Lego building.
Me too. But i moved on to Lego Technic years ago.
@@DanielFrost79 I like a mixture of the two. Or just getting a huge set that takes forever and has some technic built in. The Lego Batmobile with the "working" engine and gear box is pretty amazing
@@gamertrem1884 Same here, the two most recent sets I bought are Luke Skywalker's Red Five Helmet and the Lego BD-1. So I do like a mix of different types and I've been building Lego sets since the 80s.
During my days doing support at the IU Psych department we had a professor who taught a class using the LEGO mindstorm to cover basic programming and robotics principles. A great way to get a foot into both worlds.
0:40 Haha Phil immediately calling Jay out for building himself lol!
Nice! I found it much easier to find studs with a magnetic “stud buddy” since drywall framers use magnetic screws to fasten the drywall to the frames.
Fyi, if you find a stud half way up the height of the wall, It could also be a fireblock. Lateral wood pieces get used between studs to help compartmentalize and localize fires that may be started by electrical outlets, etc.. Some interior framed walls may also use cross braces that are diagonally placed between studs to add rigidity when building the frame before placing it or erecting it.
I've been building stuff in a new building and I literally just walked around to some of the other houses under construction nearby to see what the heck is going on with the studs. Nice to see some of the framing and go oh *that's* why there are 4 studs in a row here, there was supposed to be a window.
As a German it's my obligation to tell you about "Noppensteine von alternativen Herstellern". Bluebrixx, Cobi, Xingbao etc. are much cheaper better part quality and the sets are amazing. Got the 6000+ part Aircraft carrier Nimitz from BlueBrixx :D. The best thing about these alternatives are that they are 100% compatible with the Lego bricks :D
Agree, only not on quality, some parts of fake lego are weaker and some brands are also uv sensative.
Besides that I don't buy other brands because I also collect for value.
I do love the military sets but I don't want to collect them, lego alone is expansive enough.😅
Maybe if I am finished with collecting star wars lego, I will take another look at the tanks and stuff.
Klemmbausteine nicht Noppensteine
@@Limburg92lego is also UV sensitive 😅 but yes, fair points!
Good to know! Someone in my family loves building. Im currently looking through Bluebrixx’s offerings
Just came back from a visit to Lego HQ in Denmark. Always loved Lego and this inspired me to do so much more. Family love it too. Its true Zen activity.
I like the green hammer in drywall anchors.
I love your vlogs with you guys just hanging out and doing projects
From the looks of the Stud finder being on longer then a 1.5" stud it may have been added flat to the wall for cabinet bracing the same way they use studs in the Kitchen wall to attach lower and wall cabinets. Some contractors will add them to a certain height in bedrooms to be able to screw dressers to the wall so they don't fall over when open. You may still have 2" of space between the wall plate and the drywall in the other room.
THE WORD LEGO IS PLURAL!!!!!!
ONE LEGO BRICK, MANY LEGO!!
NEVER EVER LEGOS!!!
yikes... time to switch to decaf, bruh.
...LEGOs.
THIS! The plural of Lego is Lego. I get so triggered when I see and hear "Legos"!
@@NoOnionsUK -- [whispers] Legos... ;)
Actually, the plural form of Lego is Legi.
Everything is Awesome!!
I see what you did there. Well played 😉
The family that plays together, stays together!
Do it Jay, get the Big AT-AT, do it now, it's so awesome. Might even be on sale for May 4th.
Gosh we love a good DIY build video.
RUclips genuinely hid this upload from me, when it knows damn well I watch every single home improvement vlog that Jay, Paul, Linus, and even Kyle have uploaded. Thank you for the hard work Jay, Nick, and Phil, you'll be booming again in no time I'm sure!
Lego building has to be the most wholesome family activity out there
Just have say it... LEGO IS PLURAL!!!!!
^^^^^^^ THIS!!!
LEGO, LEGO!
Technically, Lego is the brand. So, Lego blocks or Lego bricks is correct. Saying you're playing with Lego is like saying you're playing with Hasbro or Mattel.
@@TheFoxchild ...playing with Hasbros or Mattels also sounds wrong.
Yes, it's LEGO bricks, LEGO sets.
1 LEGO brick isn't a 'Lego'.
So 2 LEGO bricks aren't 'Legos'
LEGO says it's LEGO.
And to all of us outside of the USA, it just sounds fkin weird/dumb when people say Legos... lol. Doh.
@TheFoxchild Yes, we don't say playing with Mattels or Hasbros, but we do say playing with Lego. Just like we may say "cutting the grass", "counting sheep", "catching fish", etc.
@@GodmanchesterGoblin Sure we say "playing with Lego", there are also those who say "playing with Legos" - just because it's said doesn't make it correct... I comment because people like to comment that you don't put an 's' at the end of Lego, which, while technically correct, is a misunderstanding of why. Back in the 80's the little Lego catalogs that came in the sets had a little intro on the first page which included a request to not refer to the toys as "Legos," but as Lego blocks or toys. As a kid, I misunderstood this myself and began referring to the tiny bricks as Lego instead of Legos, so I can understand why so many people read it that way, but that wasn't the point of what the catalog said. It was saying that Lego was the brand and, grammar-wise, should be used as a modifier and not a noun. So you can have a Lego set, a Lego block, a Hasbro game, or a Mattel doll; but you can't have a Hasbro, a Mattel, or a Lego, because that doesn't make sense. (Yes I realize we all know what is meant by "Lego" and I'm just being pedantic, but so are those who worry about putting an 's' at the end.)
Did you know that; Lego is short fo "Leg Godt" which translates to "Play Nice" or "Play Good" from Danish.
And that Lego is the worlds largest manufacturer of car tires.
As a Dane, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your family's love of Lego, Jay.
PC builded with Lego? I'm in. 😍😆
I got into LEGO starting a little over a year ago. I have a shelving unit I used to display my computer part boxes, but once I got into LEGO, changed it into showing off my sets. Had to get a second one recently.
Would absolutely love to see some more lego based content Jay!
One thing you can also do is tap or knock on the wall. Wall like your makes a different sound where a stud is to where a stud is not.
That is not what i would ever recommend, but then again im a contractor.
The world of stud finding has actually gotten pretty easy with Franklin sensors. They start @ $20ish, though i would recomend spending a little more, $40ish.
The TV mount is the best insurance policy, having the mount mounted securley is part of that insurance, 75" TV's arent light.
As far as the power behind the TV goes, they make full A/V boxes that are made to mount in the wall behind the TV mount. They pass power, audi, and video. Some even have space for your internet and wifi router back there! I think ive even seen full on receivers and amps back there too...
Or just measure 16" from the nearest screw pop. Any house more than like 2 years old with drywall will have at least 1 per wall if you look hard enough.
That's the plans for me & my GFS future home is a crafts area where all the Legos can go too. Luckily she's an interior designer so hopefully this process should go smoothly!
I am also making a Lego/craft room. Perfect timing. I am currently in the process of sorting loose legos so I can build my Star Destroyer from my childhood.
Jay, I just want to say I appreciate you guys putting links to the stuff in the video :) those lights interest me greatly for my desk space
This is why your channel is so awesome, I love the random creative and problem solving videos!
FYI Jay, you could probably DIY some mounting straps for the soundbar to attach it to the TV mount. I've seen them for sale before, but it's basically a steel strap bent at 90 degrees. Could have the bar directly under the TV to hide the wires and it could move with the swivel mount then as well. no need for the cable channel so the wall looks cleaner.
My daughter and I use Lego builder software on my tablet. It's a great place to collect all the legos you have. The building instructions are better stored.
Always nice to kick back and turn the channel to HJAYTV for some home reno shows
I have the Lego Bonsai too.. nice addition to my real bonsai trees.. plus this one doesn't die so that's a plus :)
It's the leaves that are tiny frogs is my favourite thing about it
Me too! Found instructions for a better look on rebrickable, can recommend
Love these types of videos.
I've been using a Markus the Chair™ for like 5 years now, and it's been great
Most dangerous floor in the house!
More home improvement vlogs!!
Nice setup.
Back ground noise while building Lego’s is a must. So much added peace.
nice lego room setup. great idea for that room.
Lego always make me happy :)
LEGO! Even if there is 1000’s of pieces its still LEGO
If your stud finder was on deepscan it can sometimes pick up the other side of the drywall in an empty cavity like that or even sometimes the mud line and tape if they are thick enough. I always go horizontal across the to scan too instead of vertical.
Well... Could also pass it off as a study. Looks ideal for kids to also do homework.
Welcome fellow AFOL! I got the 600 dollar Razorcrest (loved it) and just ordered the new UCS Xwing and the UCS Tie Interceptor
hell yeah brother. Jay might be the coolest dad ever.
JayzLegoCents!!! Make it happen!!! ❤
JayzOneHouse would be a cool channel. Great video!
For jay and anyone else's info, they make the same version of that in-wall wire kit that also has a sound bar portion to hide the cables going between the TV and the wall mounted bar
Legos are sick. Glad you and yours have such a cool spot to all hang out and build. :)
You should get the Titanic for a family build, it's amazing!
We did the Disney Castle (the previous version), each taking a bag of parts in turn. It was certainly a good way to do a collaborative build.
our living room is our lego room, we have 4 of those 5 x 5 cube ikea bookcases full of lego sets then across the top more sets that need to be make
Great video!
You'll be surprised by how good is the Peugeot build. Definitely my favourite so far 👍
I see the Lego Merc F1!
LEGO space! Yay!
I saw that Phil! The censor on the hand! Lol
I feel like for this I would have done a large desk landscape in the middle of the room with possible dividers moving up and down (for part separations but also possible larger building place). Would make for a greater get together then the sitting back to back.
I hope we get more videos like this
THE PLURAL FOR LEGO IS LEGO JAY!
another good way to find a stud is to knock on the wall, and if it sounds hollow, there's no stud there
You could also stick a pin through, if you meet resistance, there's a stud. The hole will also be easier to clean up
you are becoming one of us, I started 3 years ago building and its addicting once you start. My daughter and son in law are collecting now also
I'm going to be "that guy" and point out that the plural of Lego is Lego, not "Legos". Otherwise, great video. I love this idea. Totally wish I had a room that I could devote just to Lego building/display/storage.
As a Dad who is about to move house, I appreciate the heck out of this video.
Me sitting at home in the guest room/office/gaming room/storage room/sewing room, admiring someone who has a LEGO room
This, along with things like car videos and the like, are really nice palate cleansers~
I might add something to cover the small gap between the desk and the wall to avoid having to chase small pieces that may fall through.
Ohh nice collection. I see the bonsai tree too!! 😊
If you ever get bored, you can come to my house and set up a computer room and update any of the 3 computers I have...lol. Love your videos Jay!
Hell yeah, I love HOME IMPROVEMENT with Jay!
Also sick, you got the Technic of the black Mercedes F1. Been eyeing the McLaren one from afar, that or the new Ayrton Senna MP4/4 one at some point.
I use one of those gooseneck lamps *behind* my monitors as a sort of bias light. Works really well and no dealing with LED strips.
I have similar desk lights, that I bought on Amazon. They have two strip lights, which can be moved independently, and they have a brightness control, as well as different heat settings. Nice room build.
Hi Jay. Murray from South Africa. I saw your first videos and I've seen most of them since. Thank you for your excellent content and congratulations on your success as a RUclips content creator. Btw I love lego as well.
Hey, Jay. Cool room. I have a daughter as well, who I kinda introduced to Legos so I could build too. 😊 . Wish I had the space to have a Lego room.
Great idea to have a dedicated LEGO space. I will make sure to build one in my house!
Nice Lego room. I grew up building all sorts of things with legos. And yes I also do buy a wide variety of stuff on amazon.
Looks great! (LEGO is plural. )
Nice space. 💖💖👍👍🙏🙏👍👍💖💖
I like the power plugs on the desk in case you need a saw to seperate Lego blocks stuck together or if they don't have the proper shape to fit in. 🙂
Thanks for this video Jay. This was a fun and refreshing change of pace!
For anyone who doesn't have a stud finder, but does have a strong magnet, tie a string to it with a small weight on the other end so it dangles, then rub the magnet along the wall to have it stick to the drywall screws. That will show you where your studs are.
Get the Titanic. It's a great family built. It comes in three sections and it's gorgeous ...Saturn V is awesome too
I have one of those Ikea chairs and it's been great. I do wish the armrest was a bit better though. But I've had mine since 2016 and it's held up extremely well
the cross bracing could just be blocking for drywall if it isn't structural. drywall does need stuff to nail into.
Put a strip at the back of the desk to stop pieces falling down the back.
That ghost fire block happened to me too, with that same scanner, at the same height.
I didn't confirm if it was the drywall sheet seams, but I'm fairly certain it was that.
Made me make another hole in the wall for no reason.
Tip for the cuts in the wall, use a shop vac while you cut the holes and you can grab a majority of the dust before it hits the ground.
I reslly wanna see The Expanse build get finished.
Jay!!! Please make a dedicated Lego building Channel!!! Love to see you and the family building for hours!!! Would totally love to watch that!!!
I love when they do vids like this. Makes me feel more confident when I start cutting into walls. 😁
Now you just need 'Light My Bricks' kits!! (RGB for your Lego sets)
I have those same book cases and sideboard from IKEA in gray. I wish I could link a picture because I added a smoked glass to to protect it. Great job.
Stud finders actually look for metal (the screws in the studs). It probably picked up your nest or whatever device that is
Can you do more like DYI home videos? I enjoy Pauls DYI videos so im totally into this~!
When I was a kid me and my dad used to build Lego models together. Such great memories. Family Lego time is fun.
