Why am I here today?? New househelp is almost here.....also, serving food is key. My last one left where she was because of food. She told my sister-in-law that she'd stay because I gave her food immediately after she came in. She stayed for long, sadly she did what you said are reasons to fire immediately, she started coming home drunk!!! She left and I am at peace because she served my home well.

This is so interesting to me as an American, where only the ultra wealthy have “house helps,”because what you are describing is essentially how to treat people with basic decency - not everyone is good at executing this, so these are good reminders😊 (we do have “cleaning ladies,” but they typically only come once a week or biweekly for a couple of hours.)

I'm on my sixth househelp. Oh my ....I have struggled. It started with my second househelp stayed with her since 2019aug till last Oct. Being a Ugandan she left for elections and traditional circumcision initiation. I waited for her from Oct till this year Feb. She came by herself seeking to take her back mind you I had one who was doing housechores for half a day. Being on my trimester I took her back only for her to leave after two weeks 😭😭😭😭. Since then I just had a half day houselps. My fifth one was great unfortunately she works with NYS and she decided to go back to camp. I sometimes feel I'm unfortunate getting one😭😭😭😭😭

I do not live in Africa where you get a lot of house help, but when I lived in Trinidad growing up, we always had help. There are some people who if you treat like family will take advantage of you and some who would respect you. You have to study their personality as the video instructs. That is the most important thing. If you are extra fussy, very critical and an extra clean freak and don't know how to tell them what you want nicely and overwork them, they will leave. It is like a work in progress with them and you have to use a lot of psychology and train them how you want the work done. No one is going to stay if they are unhappy. But you must not become the worker and she your boss in your own home. I live in a big city so only the rich can afford a housekeeper here. Full time help is a luxury. I have had a few cleaning women over the years when I could not cope because I had a very heavy schedule at work. I realised that a pleasant business manner was important. Never treat that person in a condescending manner. Treat them the way you would like to be treated. This video is right on so you can take tips from her. Good luck.
I have a plan to hire a help soon, never had one or been around one. I wish you would make a video for first timers like myself on how to live with a help. Like what are the boundaries one needs to set. If I'm leaving the house, do I need to plan their meals or do they cook whatever they please. On daily basis, do they share our family meals or should they cook in their SQ How do I handle going shopping, when I give them money to go to the shop, should I always ask for change etc. I'm the nice type and sometimes I get taken advantage of, so how can I still be nice but firm in my own home.

I am from India, i live in Varanasi city .. u knw in small cities of India house helps are quite unprofessional and very mean by nature.. ..u knw ..recently a week ago i appointed a maid at my home for brooming moping and utensil washing.. she is cunning in nature that if i dont supervise her during her work she skips cleaning.. also she dont put much energy in cleaning like if there is a spot on floor and that spot could get cleaned easily but u knw she would mop that spot 2 3 times but the spot remains there only.. ..plus the area where i live there is shortage of house helps ..thus i dont have much option to replace her..u knw if i point out to her anything that this is not how it is done or u don't clean below bed or sofas or chair she would straight away say if u point me in this way then it won't be possible for me to continue at your place..where as i take care of all her needs in best manner plus have dealt to pay higher than market rate..bcz i need a house help as its not easy for me to manage my home and work together.. ..everyday she eats my brain for 2 hours by not working properly.. her lack of cleaning attitude leaves me annoyed.. ..which brought me here to search on web that how to manage maids!! .. ..also this is my fifth time i am not able to make stay any maid as none of them work efficiently.... plz guide.. Yes one thing that is at fault from my side is that my house is not very organized..
Hi girl! Oh boy, I am so sorry to hear about this. Yes, sometimes there is a culture of "unprofessional" helps especially in places where demand exceeds supply. We currently don't have that problem in Kenya, but I see how that can be unsettling for an employer. It is good that you can see where you need to improve, so that's a great place to start. I am always of the opinion that I should never be made to feel desperate in my own home by someone j have employed. I refuse to settle for anything other than what I am paying for, because this should be a mutually beneficial relationship. Start looking for another one immediately. And if you find one and she doesn't work for you, find another one still. Keep hiring and firing until you find the right one. That's my philosophy anyway. You can also check to see whether there are bureau's in your area that offer professionally trained helps, and hire from them. If there are none, I'd start that business for sure, because there seems to be a gap in your market! 😂😂 I digress though. The entrepreneur in me can already sense an opportunity 😅😅 I hope this helps. i got anew help this year but every time she wants to go i plead with her she comes up with excuses and i increase her salary but shes living for christmas but i doubt she will be back
Oh my goodness.! Suzy you should be a coach in this area... It's really disappointing when you trust someone.Take them in, and then they shock you ! What what you do when you find out your new help, who does her work well....has been using using or giving away your husband's drinks. So we are just me hubby and house-help in the house plus our two under 5year Olds. Now how do you explain, finding your full bottle of whiskey downed till quarter way And then the explanation is I found the bottle fallen and ContentS had leaked out !!!! This is tidy and good with kids. It's unfortunate I will.have to.let her go as this is a red flag of dishonesty. Suzy how would you deal with such a situation
My month old househelp luhya from a bureau in Kangemi has been stealing house hold items i.es gas cyliinders , clothes phones from my house hiding them in a neighboring home then selling them off on Sundays.So this sunday I went to check my 2 gas cyliinders that I wasn't using only for me to miss them ,asking her she said she doesn't know!,so went to the police spent the day in the police station trying to recover the items she cried and lamented that she was innocent so she was released on her way home she was followed and boom she went to a neighboring homestead and took another item she had stolen from my house so that she could now finally leave , fortunately however followed caught up with her after picking the item and we returned her to the police with evidence now. Guess what she even took us to those 2nd hand shops in the company of police officers to recover the items she had stolen and sold Imagine she used to leave my kids unattended and do all her dirty business while am at work. So now am househelp less and I don't even think I will ever employ one 😤😤
My nanny is leaving to get married.. oxymoron state bitter sweet, we've been together for 2 years now... we didnt see this coming i have to release her on tue so that i can bring in my new one hoping for the best
Good question girl. I always advocate doing as much as possible with the kids as opposed to the help, because this just creates more opportunity to know my kids more and bond more. However this might not be possible all the time, but it's what I would aim for. Hope that helps. 🌻🌻

Hi Suzy!! I am from India, i live in Varanasi city .. u knw in small cities of India house helps are quite unprofessional and very mean by nature.. ..u knw ..recently a week ago i appointed a maid at my home for brooming moping and utensil washing.. she is cunning in nature that if i dont supervise her during her work she skips cleaning.. also she dont put much energy in cleaning like if there is a spot on floor and that spot could get cleaned easily but u knw she would mop that spot 2 3 times but the spot remains there only.. ..plus the area where i live there is shortage of house helps ..thus i dont have much option to replace her..u knw if i point out to her anything that this is not how it is done or u don't clean below bed or sofas or chair she would straight away say if u point me in this way then it won't be possible for me to continue at your place..where as i take care of all her needs in best manner plus have dealt to pay higher than market rate..bcz i need a house help as its not easy for me to manage my home and work together.. ..everyday she eats my brain for 2 hours by not working properly.. her lack of cleaning attitude leaves me annoyed.. ..which brought me here to search on web that how to manage maids!! .. ..also this is my fifth time i am not able to make stay any maid as none of them work efficiently.... plz guide..

Hi girl! Oh boy, I am so sorry to hear about this. Yes, sometimes there is a culture of "unprofessional" helps especially in places where demand exceeds supply. We currently don't have that problem in Kenya, but I see how that can be unsettling for an employer. It is good that you can see where you need to improve, so that's a great place to start. I am always of the opinion that I should never be made to feel desperate in my own home by someone j have employed. I refuse to settle for anything other than what I am paying for, because this should be a mutually beneficial relationship. Start looking for another one immediately. And if you find one and she doesn't work for you, find another one still. Keep hiring and firing until you find the right one. That's my philosophy anyway. You can also check to see whether there are bureau's in your area that offer professionally trained helps, and hire from them. If there are none, I'd start that business for sure, because there seems to be a gap in your market! 😂😂 I digress though. The entrepreneur in me can already sense an opportunity 😅😅 I hope this helps. Oh my goodness.! Suzy you should be a coach in this area... It's really disappointing when you trust someone.Take them in, and then they shock you ! What what you do when you find out your new help, who does her work well....has been using using or giving away your husband's drinks. So we are just me hubby and house-help in the house plus our two under 5year Olds. Now how do you explain, finding your full bottle of whiskey downed till quarter way
And then the explanation is I found the bottle fallen and ContentS had leaked out !!!! This is tidy and good with kids. It's unfortunate I will.have to.let her go as this is a red flag of dishonesty. Suzy how would you deal with such a situation

My month old househelp luhya from a bureau in Kangemi has been stealing house hold items i.es gas cyliinders , clothes phones from my house hiding them in a neighboring home then selling them off on Sundays.So this sunday I went to check my 2 gas cyliinders that I wasn't using only for me to miss them ,asking her she said she doesn't know!,so went to the police spent the day in the police station trying to recover the items she cried and lamented that she was innocent so she was released on her way home she was followed and boom she went to a neighboring homestead and took another item she had stolen from my house so that she could now finally leave , fortunately however followed caught up with her after picking the item and we returned her to the police with evidence now.
Guess what she even took us to those 2nd hand shops in the company of police officers to recover the items she had stolen and sold
Imagine she used to leave my kids unattended and do all her dirty business while am at work.
So now am househelp less and I don't even think I will ever employ one 😤😤

Good question girl. I always advocate doing as much as possible with the kids as opposed to the help, because this just creates more opportunity to know my kids more and bond more. However this might not be possible all the time, but it's what I would aim for. Hope that helps. 🌻🌻
