The price difference may seem steep. However, it's not just about the illuminated reticle; you're also getting improved optical performance, three models instead of one, shorter design, and new features across the board. I just bought the 4-30x50 Gen II for $1200 from Scopelist.
Shorter tube, better glass and illuminated which for me is a necessity for hunting. I didn’t buy the original because of no illumination but with the upgrades I’m glad I didn’t.
