I kinda get both sides of the Sister Location Power Scale debate and whether every new feature works or just makes the game something to skip out on. Some FNaF creators, veterans, alumni, etc, feel like William's portrayal in Sister Location is an expansion of his characterization, while others, like you, see it as a flanderization of it, seeing as the more sinister, semi-God complex personality (which only makes sense for him to have this portrayal if you've read the books) seems more quaint and stereotypical of an antagonist than the mysterious and shady portrayal of the character from 2 and 3. Some see the constant swap gameplay styles as a breath of fresh air, while others, like you, see it as confusing and frustrating for first time players, if not unplayable, seeing as the swaps are designed for the story. Some see Circus Baby as a mastermind of an antagonist either despite or because of her limited screentime, while others, like you, see the limited screentime as a waste of potential, seeing as she's is the only Funtime Animatronic without a jumpscare (granted, if she did have a jumpscare, it'd just be a forward facing version of the trailer jumpscare), and doesn't even appear in the Custom Nights. Some see HandUnit as fun to interact with (I think, anyway), while others, like you, see him as just a failed tribute attempt at the Phone Guy, seeing as Scott created him specifically to be the comic relief. Some see the integration of elements from the books as an interesting way to determine what details from the books are and aren't present in the game, while others, like you, see these details as convoluted and unfitting for the main story, seeing as the books were created as an alternate continuity to the series that retell certain events or place certain characters under new roles, and even they have issues with not providing enough context clues to figure out William's plans or what role Michael and Henry play in stopping those plans. There's other things I could go into (if I remembered what the rest of the criticisms we're), but I feel like those are the details that stand out as design choices that make Sister Location the overall weakest game in the series, while providing conceptually good, but poorly executed ideas for how Scott wanted the game to play, and ideas for how he could improve (or could've improved, I should say) on the game, be it through a FNaF 10-year anniversary update of all the games, or Phisnom remaking it on GameMaker. #FNaFSisterLocationPlus Also, congrats on the new season. Looking forward to what the future has to offer.

The Fnaf 4 AI thing always sends shivers down my spine thinking about how foxy sneaks into the room right next to you if you aren’t looking, even though it has no queue or impact other than foxy being in the closet. Horror games suggesting that things, especially ones close to you, have moved very recently, is quite terrifying to think about
Ive always thougb that too. Knowledge that domething thats very close has moved completely silently or quietly in the time it took you to glance away or walk to the other side of a room is so much better than a jumpscare. It makes you feel unsafe not by killing you, but making you feel kore vulnerable than you already felt
I might be remembering wrong, but don't foxes play with their food almost as much as cats? It's reflected in the gameplay too, with like foxy's closet scare, and the fact that he doesn't just kill you right when given the chance like the other roaming animatronics, and when he is in the closet, the way that he behaves when you check him feels less like Freddy where it feels like you're forcefully resetting his progress towards showing up by getting rid of any sign of him being there, and more like he's just playing along to mess with you.
Oh yeah, same thing with the PT part of the Silent Hill franchise. It's one thing playing through the whole game with ominous feeling that something might be watching you and creepy shits happening just out of sight. But when you break out of bounds by bugs or mods and watch it from a different angle, THERE'S A FREAKING GHOST FLOATING RIGHT BEHIND YOUR EVERY STEPS AND JUST DANCE AROUND YOUR VISION RANGE WHENEVER YOU TURN AROUND TO CHECK. It's even more terrifying to know 😭😭😭

Sister location looked very promising. The game ended on a spot where you just started thinking "wow, i'm really excited to see what else this game has to offer"
knowing you're 19 is really cool to me for some reason. i'm just a year younger so i'm glad that i can still surround myself with fnaf fans who have grown up with it around my age too and still see that the intrigue and wonder for the games have never left us
I think the same thing happened to security breach. When there is great hype for a franchise it is easy for fans to not notice or overlook the issues with the game. Security Breach like Sister Location wasn't as bad as EA's blunders but had a ton of issues. Its like rewatching a favorite movie and taking notice of mistakes or shortcuts since the mystery is gone.

@@OlaftheGreat That's not a counterpoint, that's just saying "This particular game that does the opposite isn't good" (and the worse in the saga moreover). Actually, who even said that the opposite is good? There are a lot of middle grounds that are certainly way better.
And this is where Pizza Sim takes the cake for me. It is jampacked with content, balancing fun and lore-heavy very well. The simulator itself versus the maintenance task afterwards also funtions very well, as I myself feel a sense of dread knowing I’m running out of playtokens to stall both because I find the maintenance task really stressful even without enemies and that is amplified when I know the game can just spawn in an enemy. (It has happened once, I never take salvages or buy marked down items)
Tbh I love sister location but I agree wholeheartedly that it's at it's best during the first playthrough, but I often find myself returning to it because of the story, it's one of my favorite story's in FNAF and provides a lot of interesting lore, and I was still relatively new to FNAF when it came out so I guess it's incredibly nostalgic to me too. But my God that Ultimate Custom night game mode really pushes this game to one of the top spots in my favorite games, thanks so much for reviewing this game, as you've pointed out a lot of things I overlooked or ignored, I still enjoy sister location a lot, but I can also see it's flaws.
This is how I engage with the game itself. It's probably one of favorites dues to its story, atmosphere, and OST. But, it definitely has its faults. And it's good to acknowledge them like you said. :)
One thing I really appreciate about Custom Night is that it introduced keyboard mechanics for doors. This would be improved later on in UCN, but it’s implementation here really helps the game mode mechanically
Weirdly enough, seeing your video just about a week ago made me fall in love with Sister Location. I haven't really thought about it since it came out all those years ago, but I'm glad you reminded me of it. I love almost everything about this game. The setting, the heavy lore focus, and especially the cyber-circus aesthetic of the animatronics. Granted, my second playthrough wasn't as good as the first. But damn. I seriously think MULTIPLE games could've happened within the Sister Location setting. To the point that I almost want to make my own.
FNaF 4 happens there. In the underground rooms connected to the ones we get to be in. And presumably, there's even more secret rooms in there - it's an underground facility already full of layers of hidden hatches and areas in dangerous chambers. It's got an elevator at the entrance without a floor selection that does include a keypad and then a 'go to selected floor' button, implying someone who knows the combination can pretty effectively keep everyone else from getting to those floors. The Nightmares were built somewhere, after all, and the Funtime line might well have been expanded down there, or bodies stored where they won't be found, and we'd never know.
Yeah... I mean, I'll be honest, I think many of the fangames with gameplay inspired by that of Sister Location actually are a lot better, at least in the gameplay department. The minigames are cooler and more engaging! It goes to show a lot can be done with the concept, and that it has a ton of untapped potential!

It does seem pretty odd to get so much flack for not liking a game. Certainly when you explained it the way that you did. I enjoyed your Sister Location video.

But it's almost impossible to interact with a community unless you actively go to it. On Twitter you can just get closelined by the worst takes and random stuff with no control over it. 4:55 I definitely agree, and I think Undertale is another great example of that! I just recently bought it, and finished both the Neutral and True Pacifist routes. Now I'm at Sans in the Genocide route, and the game hasn't felt boring and repetitive at any point! Each of the routes have really different ways of telling the story of Frisk, whether they befriend the monsters or kill them. To me, it's strange that there are some games that rely so heavily on that first playthrough to keep it interesting, because there are a lot of ways to make subsequent runs of a game almost as, if not just as interesting as the first. Also great job on the content, I love channels like these!
I have done 16 genocide routes, 2 pacifist, and 2 neutral. I can confirm this; the game still manages to be fun and enjoyable even when you watch someone else play it. I think part of what makes Undertale such a great game is its various and ever changing dialogue. It manages to keep the game fresh. The Soulless Pacifist ending also adds to this.
Its not that important but the game actually tells you that you are the one choosing what route frisk goes through no matter if its a good or a maniacal one, and not the character themselves. You are controlling the heart.

Kill even more monsters, and then a even more bigger difficulty spike, go through lame cutscene, and that is basically it. Gameplay wise, genocide route is crap.

I've always considered SLs Custom Nights one of the best. There is very little rng or hidden mechanics, without being easy. Its challenging in that it is a heavy test of skill without needing to rely on luck. On occasion there may be an instance where too many mechanics hit at once, but it is much less drastic than it is in previous or future FNAF games.
Tbh sister location was my favorite game. I can’t explain exactly why but the story was really good. The voice acting as amazing. The mechanics and gameplay was similar but different from the previous games. It was one of my favorite play throughs to watch as well. I love the design of the animatronics. And the tension from the “ controlled shocks” was so uneasy and I liked the way it made me feel. The ambience. I guess I can tell you exactly why. I enjoyed it.
At 3:53 I was not expecting to hear the use of Fuchsia Ruler, a track from Homestuck, in this video. It's an interesting surprise. And as I watch through the video, I realize at 7:17 the track playing is "ill probably just name this one something normal oh no aw beans", or Dave's Theme from Pesterquest. After looking in the description and seeing the editor for this video is a Homestuck fan it makes sense. Although, I would find it funny if uhyeah knows nothing about Homestuck and this opens up a whole new rabbit hole for him to discover.
Uhyeah you're slowly becoming the best FNAF RUclipsr you're handling the big growth perfectly and deserve all of it Just want to tell you to be careful because you have a big audience now and can influence the community for better and for worse but I doubt you'll go off track your takes are my favorite after all

I like horror games generally and was interested in your first video since RUclips recommended it to me, to get a sense of the critique. It was so great and I was excited to see this one pop up! I'm pretty sure Bonnet also shows up in the base game as an easter egg recolor, during the Bon-Bon section in Parts And Service. Also, Blacktime Freddy (weird name I know), a character used in the novel trilogy albeit sparsely, was an easter egg character in SL as well but was omitted from the custom night for some reason - maybe to avoid having two different recolors. He _did_ get a reference in the SL-styled office for UCN, but not a character, although given none of the other Funtime bears made it that's not surprising.

I personally loved Sister Location because I am a terrible gamer myself and it was the easiest of all the games aside from FNAF World lol. So I totally heard and respected your opinions in the original video and that's why I decided to go ahead and watch the whole thing. Twice. Definitely glad you did a follow up, and was totally floored finding out you were 19. I'm 25 myself, so instead of "growing up with FNAF," I enjoyed it for my second half of high school and plentifully all through college LOL.
It's awesome to see a fellow 19 year old who's so interested in the analysis of game design. I like the way you tackle the topics in an attempt to be not only subjective, but also objective about said topics. i love the new sprites, its a lot more expressive and stylized than the two og sprites, even if i loved the og these sprites are such a refreshing start for 2023 and the artist of them did an amazing job
Dude the new design looks neat as hell!! Ik a lot of people are saying it looks like furry bait and shit but honestly, seeing it reminds me a little bit of the Akinator art style.
Hot take, but Sister Location is my favorite out of the original fnaf games (1-6+UCN). I remember the first time ever going through sister location, the psychological horror aspect was terrifying. Crawling through extremely claustrophobic spaces, staring animatronics face to face with a flashlight as your only source of vision (sometimes even without a flashlight), and especially Ennard, just the thought of all the animatronics melting together, hanging the the technicians, and escaping through your flesh was just horrifying to me. Then in the private room when it’s just you and Ennard while he/she/it’s talking to you, and even using Elizabeth’s voice to try and lure you into letting them inside was so scary to me. Along with all of that, the game did have some pretty good jump scares too
Man is starting this year out with a bang. An update in character animation and a sequel to one of his most controversial videos. I can't wait to see where his content goes from here

In regards to sister location... I like the minigame style more? It's what I loved about pizza sim and help wanted, and wanted in security breach. Normal fnaf games don't scratch that satisfying itch. I don't like repeating the same gameplay over and over again. I love the lore. Introducing Afton, Circus Baby, and overall story telling is brilliant. It's not repeatable, unless you like custom night or are looking for lore clues but I think that's its strength. It's fun.
Sister location was such a good game. Most I've heard from agree that it was a nice change of pace to the series, a necessary mix up in the formula! Plus the character designs were awesome and Baby felt like the first true new antagonist after 4 straight games of Afton!

Yeah, I always felt like this shouldn't be locked behind fully completing Sister Location. I get that it's office location is a bit of a spoiler, but it is a spoiler for a non-canon ending anyway, so just have it unlock after you beat the game and the credits roll on the canon ending.
I'm not sure what to think about the new UhYeah. I kinda liked the old design a bit better. The new one looks just a bit over detailed. I could get used to this tho. Congrats on S2, man!

It’s sad to see that some people didn’t like sister location because it’s my favourite game in the entire series of Fnaf. I love seeing other opinions being shown around. I genuinely love sister location. The reason why is that I love the voice acting and the little creepy voices of animatronics throughout the game. Please don’t take this as saying that your opinion is wrong. I just want to share mine.
6:01 this is so relatable. As an old, cynical 19 year old myself I realized that although the first 4 are still a lot of fun to replay but they’re just not challenging anymore. I never beat 4/20 mode when I was younger, I hardly even beat night 6. Tonight my sister asked me for help and I proceeded to play all 7 nights in a row + 4/20 mode with no deaths. It feels so strange that something I used to never imagine being possible as a kid I can now just do without trouble.
I love the fanmade Sister Location VR. It’s SL, but fixed. No faceplate movement on Custom Night jumpscares? Fixed. Annoying mouse controls? Fixed. Minireena 2 being Minireena 2? Fixed, they can be taken off now. Yeendo’s jumpscare? Fixed. Yenndo’s lackluster mechanic? Fixed. Need for 100% completion for the Custom Night? Fixed. It is perfection.

Honestly it had been a while since I had watched actual gameplay of sister location instead of the clips I see all the time in Fnaf videos, but I watched Astralspiff’s stream yesterday where he played it a bit and I recognized how little credit I had given to it. Night four is still just not fun but the animations and dialogue for it is amazing. I really like how much more dark the series got during sl, the hanging bodies, the slight blood when you get scooped, Elizabeth’s death scene, and more small moments throughout the game. It most definitely is not as dark as some horror games get but it is probably the darkest the five nights at Freddy’s series has gone. I also love many of the animations throughout the game such as when Ballora spins across your screen in the second night. The repetitive nature of most Fnaf games is what makes it a bit hard to play for me, but Sister Location has different mechanics each night which makes it interesting.
at 17:30 you said you didn't like the way the mouse works. There a modded version of the game which removes perspective. This makes the game run smoother and removes the mouse chunkiness. It also allows you to customize the difficulty.
12:10 Theres another random cool thing I noticed about the kitchen noises while playing my first playthrough of fnaf 1 when freddy starts to move he can actually also go in the kitchen aswell,(with chica most of the time), and he'll play the same jingle when he's at your door for when the powers out. I personally thought this was really cool because it lets you know where he is when he's in there, instead of actively searching for him and not being able to find him. I think freddy's making some pizza in there!! :O

Slight correction: In Sister Location custom night, the oxygen cannot kill you; it only makes it harder to see.
One strat for the challenge with just Ballora and the Minireenas is to let the oxygen go out, and just use the keys to keep Ballora out

It's reflected in the gameplay too, with like foxy's closet scare, and the fact that he doesn't just kill you right when given the chance like the other roaming animatronics, and when he is in the closet, the way that he behaves when you check him feels less like Freddy where it feels like you're forcefully resetting his progress towards showing up by getting rid of any sign of him being there, and more like he's just playing along to mess with you.
Oh yeah, same thing with the PT part of the Silent Hill franchise. It's one thing playing through the whole game with ominous feeling that something might be watching you and creepy shits happening just out of sight. But when you break out of bounds by bugs or mods and watch it from a different angle, THERE'S A FREAKING GHOST FLOATING RIGHT BEHIND YOUR EVERY STEPS AND JUST DANCE AROUND YOUR VISION RANGE WHENEVER YOU TURN AROUND TO CHECK. It's even more terrifying to know 😭😭😭

I think the same thing happened to security breach. When there is great hype for a franchise it is easy for fans to not notice or overlook the issues with the game. Security Breach like Sister Location wasn't as bad as EA's blunders but had a ton of issues. Its like rewatching a favorite movie and taking notice of mistakes or shortcuts since the mystery is gone.

Actually, who even said that the opposite is good? There are a lot of middle grounds that are certainly way better.
And this is where Pizza Sim takes the cake for me. It is jampacked with content, balancing fun and lore-heavy very well. The simulator itself versus the maintenance task afterwards also funtions very well, as I myself feel a sense of dread knowing I’m running out of playtokens to stall both because I find the maintenance task really stressful even without enemies and that is amplified when I know the game can just spawn in an enemy. (It has happened once, I never take salvages or buy marked down items)

Tbh I love sister location but I agree wholeheartedly that it's at it's best during the first playthrough, but I often find myself returning to it because of the story, it's one of my favorite story's in FNAF and provides a lot of interesting lore, and I was still relatively new to FNAF when it came out so I guess it's incredibly nostalgic to me too. But my God that Ultimate Custom night game mode really pushes this game to one of the top spots in my favorite games, thanks so much for reviewing this game, as you've pointed out a lot of things I overlooked or ignored, I still enjoy sister location a lot, but I can also see it's flaws.
This is how I engage with the game itself. It's probably one of favorites dues to its story, atmosphere, and OST. But, it definitely has its faults. And it's good to acknowledge them like you said. :)

One thing I really appreciate about Custom Night is that it introduced keyboard mechanics for doors. This would be improved later on in UCN, but it’s implementation here really helps the game mode mechanically
Weirdly enough, seeing your video just about a week ago made me fall in love with Sister Location. I haven't really thought about it since it came out all those years ago, but I'm glad you reminded me of it.
I love almost everything about this game. The setting, the heavy lore focus, and especially the cyber-circus aesthetic of the animatronics. Granted, my second playthrough wasn't as good as the first. But damn. I seriously think MULTIPLE games could've happened within the Sister Location setting. To the point that I almost want to make my own.

FNaF 4 happens there. In the underground rooms connected to the ones we get to be in. And presumably, there's even more secret rooms in there - it's an underground facility already full of layers of hidden hatches and areas in dangerous chambers. It's got an elevator at the entrance without a floor selection that does include a keypad and then a 'go to selected floor' button, implying someone who knows the combination can pretty effectively keep everyone else from getting to those floors. The Nightmares were built somewhere, after all, and the Funtime line might well have been expanded down there, or bodies stored where they won't be found, and we'd never know.
Yeah... I mean, I'll be honest, I think many of the fangames with gameplay inspired by that of Sister Location actually are a lot better, at least in the gameplay department. The minigames are cooler and more engaging! It goes to show a lot can be done with the concept, and that it has a ton of untapped potential!

4:55 I definitely agree, and I think Undertale is another great example of that! I just recently bought it, and finished both the Neutral and True Pacifist routes. Now I'm at Sans in the Genocide route, and the game hasn't felt boring and repetitive at any point! Each of the routes have really different ways of telling the story of Frisk, whether they befriend the monsters or kill them. To me, it's strange that there are some games that rely so heavily on that first playthrough to keep it interesting, because there are a lot of ways to make subsequent runs of a game almost as, if not just as interesting as the first.
Also great job on the content, I love channels like these!
I have done 16 genocide routes, 2 pacifist, and 2 neutral. I can confirm this; the game still manages to be fun and enjoyable even when you watch someone else play it. I think part of what makes Undertale such a great game is its various and ever changing dialogue. It manages to keep the game fresh. The Soulless Pacifist ending also adds to this.
Its not that important but the game actually tells you that you are the one choosing what route frisk goes through no matter if its a good or a maniacal one, and not the character themselves. You are controlling the heart.

I've always considered SLs Custom Nights one of the best. There is very little rng or hidden mechanics, without being easy. Its challenging in that it is a heavy test of skill without needing to rely on luck. On occasion there may be an instance where too many mechanics hit at once, but it is much less drastic than it is in previous or future FNAF games.
Tbh sister location was my favorite game. I can’t explain exactly why but the story was really good. The voice acting as amazing. The mechanics and gameplay was similar but different from the previous games. It was one of my favorite play throughs to watch as well. I love the design of the animatronics. And the tension from the “ controlled shocks” was so uneasy and I liked the way it made me feel. The ambience. I guess I can tell you exactly why. I enjoyed it.

At 3:53 I was not expecting to hear the use of Fuchsia Ruler, a track from Homestuck, in this video. It's an interesting surprise. And as I watch through the video, I realize at 7:17 the track playing is "ill probably just name this one something normal oh no aw beans", or Dave's Theme from Pesterquest. After looking in the description and seeing the editor for this video is a Homestuck fan it makes sense. Although, I would find it funny if uhyeah knows nothing about Homestuck and this opens up a whole new rabbit hole for him to discover.

I'm pretty sure Bonnet also shows up in the base game as an easter egg recolor, during the Bon-Bon section in Parts And Service. Also, Blacktime Freddy (weird name I know), a character used in the novel trilogy albeit sparsely, was an easter egg character in SL as well but was omitted from the custom night for some reason - maybe to avoid having two different recolors. He _did_ get a reference in the SL-styled office for UCN, but not a character, although given none of the other Funtime bears made it that's not surprising.

I personally loved Sister Location because I am a terrible gamer myself and it was the easiest of all the games aside from FNAF World lol. So I totally heard and respected your opinions in the original video and that's why I decided to go ahead and watch the whole thing. Twice. Hot take, but Sister Location is my favorite out of the original fnaf games (1-6+UCN). I remember the first time ever going through sister location, the psychological horror aspect was terrifying. Crawling through extremely claustrophobic spaces, staring animatronics face to face with a flashlight as your only source of vision (sometimes even without a flashlight), and especially Ennard, just the thought of all the animatronics melting together, hanging the the technicians, and escaping through your flesh was just horrifying to me. Then in the private room when it’s just you and Ennard while he/she/it’s talking to you, and even using Elizabeth’s voice to try and lure you into letting them inside was so scary to me. Along with all of that, the game did have some pretty good jump scares too

I like the minigame style more? It's what I loved about pizza sim and help wanted, and wanted in security breach. Normal fnaf games don't scratch that satisfying itch. I don't like repeating the same gameplay over and over again.
I love the lore. Introducing Afton, Circus Baby, and overall story telling is brilliant.
It's not repeatable, unless you like custom night or are looking for lore clues but I think that's its strength. It's fun.

Yeah, I always felt like this shouldn't be locked behind fully completing Sister Location. I get that it's office location is a bit of a spoiler, but it is a spoiler for a non-canon ending anyway, so just have it unlock after you beat the game and the credits roll on the canon ending.

It’s sad to see that some people didn’t like sister location because it’s my favourite game in the entire series of Fnaf. I love seeing other opinions being shown around. I genuinely love sister location. The reason why is that I love the voice acting and the little creepy voices of animatronics throughout the game. 6:01 this is so relatable. As an old, cynical 19 year old myself I realized that although the first 4 are still a lot of fun to replay but they’re just not challenging anymore. I never beat 4/20 mode when I was younger, I hardly even beat night 6. Tonight my sister asked me for help and I proceeded to play all 7 nights in a row + 4/20 mode with no deaths. It feels so strange that something I used to never imagine being possible as a kid I can now just do without trouble.
I love the fanmade Sister Location VR. It’s SL, but fixed. No faceplate movement on Custom Night jumpscares? Fixed. Annoying mouse controls? Fixed. Minireena 2 being Minireena 2? Fixed, they can be taken off now. Yeendo’s jumpscare? Fixed. Yenndo’s lackluster mechanic? Fixed. Need for 100% completion for the Custom Night? Fixed. It is perfection.

Honestly it had been a while since I had watched actual gameplay of sister location instead of the clips I see all the time in Fnaf videos, but I watched Astralspiff’s stream yesterday where he played it a bit and I recognized how little credit I had given to it. Night four is still just not fun but the animations and dialogue for it is amazing. I really like how much more dark the series got during sl, the hanging bodies, the slight blood when you get scooped, Elizabeth’s death scene, and more small moments throughout the game. It most definitely is not as dark as some horror games get but it is probably the darkest the five nights at Freddy’s series has gone. I also love many of the animations throughout the game such as when Ballora spins across your screen in the second night. The repetitive nature of most Fnaf games is what makes it a bit hard to play for me, but Sister Location has different mechanics each night which makes it interesting.

at 17:30 you said you didn't like the way the mouse works. There a modded version of the game which removes perspective. This makes the game run smoother and removes the mouse chunkiness. It also allows you to customize the difficulty.

Theres another random cool thing I noticed about the kitchen noises while playing my first playthrough of fnaf 1
when freddy starts to move he can actually also go in the kitchen aswell,(with chica most of the time), and he'll play the same jingle when he's at your door for when the powers out. I personally thought this was really cool because it lets you know where he is when he's in there, instead of actively searching for him and not being able to find him.
