Portugal hardly qualified for major tournaments before the 2000s. You are not Portuguese so you know nothing about the detail of our history. The arrival of Ronaldo is really the arrival of any true success for the national team, for the first time in our history we were qualifying for every major tournament. Ronaldo done this with very poor generations between 06/18, he singled handled dragged Portugal in many many games, from play offs to in tournaments. This generation is the "CR7 affect" generation. Some of the current players grew up has young boys holding frames of Ronaldo in their bedrooms, with the dream of becoming footballers coming from him, too many in our country he created this generation for everything that he represented to our nation. Take out 1966 with Eusebio, we had Figo and the Rui Costa era that won nothing for us. Portugal hardly qualified for major tournaments before the 2000s. Our International history was poor. Some of the current players grew up has young boys holding frames of Ronaldo in their bedrooms, with the dream of becoming footballers coming from him, to many people in our country he created this generation for everything that he represented to our nation. Win or lose we are with him, he carried us for too long.
