It's a testament to the Lonely Island that everyone who works with them seems to be having the best time, to the point where they're just happy to drop in and do them a solid if they need it. Some artists buy their collaborators, but the Lonely Island seems to make real friends with theirs.
Question for the Lonely Island podcast (when you eventually get to this one): how did you choose Avril 14 by Aphex Twin for this one? I've always wondered who was the Aphex Twin fan! Loving the podcast so far. Iran So Far was immediately one of my favorite Digital Shorts, and it was so hard to find online for years because of the DMCA takedowns. I remembering being disappointed that it didn't make it onto any of the albums.
If any element of this didn't hit right, none of it would work, but it literally hit on every level. Fantastic song, incredible camera work, ridiculously sarcastic. It's fucking art.
"He ran for the president of Iran, we ran together to a tropical island, my man Mahmoud is known for wildin', smilin', if he can still do it then I can" ~ poetry ~ also Andy looks soooo goood
The comedy/satire doesn’t work without Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but if you stripped all that away, you still have an earworm of song that pairs nicely with beautiful film of NYC. 10/10 no notes.
After all these years, still my favourite SNL skit of all time. Incredible musical sample, music video, and political-commentary-via-comedy that is sadly still relevant 10+ years later.
There is something so poetically defiant about this skit, i swear it always makes me feel a little emotional. The fact that both Samberg and Levine are Jewish elevates it to a true masterpiece of satire. This is how you truly mock someone vile, this is the way. Man i miss satire, people don't understand its power anymore.
I have to look this song up every once in a while because it's still so very beautiful. In my headcannon, Mahmoud cues it up now and then and dreams that maybe Andy Samberg really is in love with him.

So do we all agree that the best part is the piano shot at 1:30 ?
I know I do
+DorianYT Nope, it's gotta be 2:05 for me
agreed
The best is the piano moving with the train XD
+DorianYT oh yeah
17 years and I'd still kill for a clean version of this without the audience laughter. I think it's a genuinely moving and touching song.
I'm Iranian and I have to say I laugh my ass off everytime I watch this which is almost everyday 😂
Exactly like me! I thought I was alone😂
@@sherrymad1421 😂😂😂
Same teehee
Same dude
That's awesome!
We all need to come together...
I love how Jake Gyllenhaal is in this video for literally no reason.
He is lyrics...not for no reason
The reason is it's snl, they got the pull to do stuff like throw a list celebrities in stuff unnecessarily. Of course they're gonna flex it
"So strong to me. Like a very hairy Jake Gyllenhaal to me"
I think he was hosting SNL that week, that's why he's included in the video.
connect the dots, he's there bc he wanted to be
The best SNL era for me. The years of Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudekis, when Seth Meyers was doing weekend update etc.
Don't forget my man, Bill Hader. The mid-aughts was a great time for SNL.
Kristen Wiig 😤
I'm Iranian and I'm watching this for the 100th time and loving it😍
😂❤
Same . Hi fellow Iranian . 🎀

OMG this is the funniest thing I have ever seen In my life. LOL thanks SNL for this , from Iran with love.
mohsen maghrebi I
I love it too.
I love the little high note at 1:15
seth was right, andy does look very handsome in this
Seriously these music videos with legit artist cameos signing in a serious way is amazinggggg
It's a testament to the Lonely Island that everyone who works with them seems to be having the best time, to the point where they're just happy to drop in and do them a solid if they need it. Some artists buy their collaborators, but the Lonely Island seems to make real friends with theirs.
“Holy fucking fuck. That body of yours is absurd.” -Adam Levine to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, probably
Lol ive been searching for a comment like this
Andy's sparkly suit in this is beautiful :')
Those driving piano shots are just amazing 🤩 Also, Andy is looking very hot
Question for the Lonely Island podcast (when you eventually get to this one): how did you choose Avril 14 by Aphex Twin for this one? I've always wondered who was the Aphex Twin fan!
Loving the podcast so far. Iran So Far was immediately one of my favorite Digital Shorts, and it was so hard to find online for years because of the DMCA takedowns. I remembering being disappointed that it didn't make it onto any of the albums.
I think this is still in my top 5 sketches. I catch myself still randomly singing it 😂
"Like eugene you got me straight trippin boo" keeps going through my head
If any element of this didn't hit right, none of it would work, but it literally hit on every level. Fantastic song, incredible camera work, ridiculously sarcastic. It's fucking art.
Brilliant! Actually, I think this is the best piece from The Lonely Island
Fred Armisen is an absolute GOAT. He didn't say a single word in this skit and yet this is one of the funniest performances in SNL history.
Have you ever seen Documentary Now? Underrated show, Armisen is the best
Whenever I'm having a bad day, I watch this for a giggle. I laugh every single time at the Jake Gyllenhal cameo. So funny.
2024 and it's still one of my favorite digital shorts.
Simply brilliant! One of the best digital shorts ever! Andy, Adam, Fred, and Jake were all great in this, hahaha.
"He ran for the president of Iran,
we ran together to a tropical island,
my man Mahmoud is known for wildin',
smilin', if he can still do it then I can"
~ poetry ~
also Andy looks soooo goood
This is too funny. You belong to me, like a very hairy Jake Gyllenhaal to me 😂😂😂
The comedy/satire doesn’t work without Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but if you stripped all that away, you still have an earworm of song that pairs nicely with beautiful film of NYC.
10/10 no notes.
And I think that’s true of Lonely Island…the comedy is the main focus, but their music is still catchy as hell even without the comic rapping.
Adam was soooo pretty!!! aghhhh and his voice just so HEAVENLY!
IKKK OMG HE'S PERFECT
He was perrrfect, even tho his behaviour is shit, his looks are fuckinn underrated I'd say@@cupcakeangel1139
Here before starting the podcast episode. LET'S DO THIS
Fred Armisen
Legit best SNL Digital Short. Great lyrics. Beat is great. Clever...It's perfect!
After all these years I have no idea why this song is still so beautiful and hilarious at the same time 🤣🤣
As an Iranian, I loved so hard at this. Great job.
+Parsuli English!
+Milad Golshan What?
+Parsuli u mean laughed
As an Iranian, I felt they are making fun of our country ಠ_ಠ

Your leaders are not your country, any more than Trump is us.
After all these years, still my favourite SNL skit of all time. Incredible musical sample, music video, and political-commentary-via-comedy that is sadly still relevant 10+ years later.
Good Lord this song is so incredible, one of the best things SNL ever put out to this day
still my favourite SNL clip ever! Awesome
This song, I believe, has the potential to be a classic. 2019 . Anyone still watching it? :P
Aphex twin avril 14
2021 baby😂
@@Nimaso I wanted to say that...
12/2021 !!
2022 mayne!
This came out when I was 16 and I think about it every few months and always come back to this video loll
My favorite when watching Lonely Island back in 2007, love that harmony
CANNOT wait for this one to be discussed on the lonely island seth meyers podcast, favourite digital short hands down
There is something so poetically defiant about this skit, i swear it always makes me feel a little emotional. The fact that both Samberg and Levine are Jewish elevates it to a true masterpiece of satire. This is how you truly mock someone vile, this is the way. Man i miss satire, people don't understand its power anymore.
This is probably my 20th time listening to this song. OBSESSED
"You can deny the holocaust all you want, but you can't deny that there's something between us."
This is seriously one of the greatest videos and songs ever - its so hilarious
This is the all time best Digital Short.
After 11 years.... They finally changed the thumbnail
1:43 is the best part musically and visually .....(it's just so wholesome)
greetings from IRAN, thanx for this one
I have to look this song up every once in a while because it's still so very beautiful. In my headcannon, Mahmoud cues it up now and then and dreams that maybe Andy Samberg really is in love with him.
