      Cambly was actually the first online teaching company that I taught for, and it was a nightmare. After 3 months of getting random negative reviews (for which Cambly does not provide context) I was promptly let go one day out of the blue without warning, not two days after I landed a student who signed up for a 6 month period under me. When I replied to the email that they sent to fire me, asking why I had been let go, cricket serenaded me. Please don't recommend this company, it's utter garbage.

      @@ESLTeacher365is it okay to edit the intro video? Like minimal editing between sections of the introduction. I noticed a few teachers say it’s okay or they just edit it. I saw one that implied that it’s frowned upon. I find it somewhat unnatural to memorize rather than say sections with a natural manner while glueing them together. Do most people do minimal editing?

    Hi Jamie, hoping you'll reply to my comment even though this is an old video 😊
    I recently found you on RUclips and immediately subscribed and I also signed up to your newsletter too - your content is great 👍
    I have just enrolled on a level 3 TEFL course with 'The TEFL Academy' after a lot of research (so far they seem to be great and they are accredited which was obviously important, plus the course was discounted by 70%!)...!
    I looked into becoming a TEFL teacher 6 years ago but a lack of confidence and personal issues meant I never did it! I'm so glad I managed to build up the courage a week ago to look into it again, and finally enroll! I have sort of ran out of options in life and this is something I've always wanted to do but never had the confidence...
    I am from the UK (native English speaker), no degree, and the only teaching experience I have was over 10 years ago as an aupair (in 3 different countries). I actually speak a total of 4 languages (English, French, Spanish & Italian) and have lived in 5 different countries - do you think this would be worth mentioning in my intro video once I've gained my TEFL certificate, as a way of showcasing who I am?
    I am really nervous about lesson planning and connecting with students for the 1st time, but I assume that's the whole point of the TEFL course is to give you the confidence and skills as a teacher!?
    Upon watching your videos, I have decided to join Cambly and Preply (& possibly Italki), to increase my chances of getting students as I don't have a degree or recent teaching experience and it looks like it will take a long time to build up financial stability - on Cambly can you apply to do Cambly adults as well as Cambly kids at the same time, or just one?
    Apologies for the long comment and thanks again 🙏

    • @ESLTeacher365
      @ESLTeacher365  9 дней назад +1

      Hi! Welcome to the world of TEFL teaching. Yes, your TEFL course will help you with basic lesson planning. I recommend asking a local teacher to observe 10 hours or so of their lessons as you’ll learn so much from a veteran teacher. When it comes to online teaching without a degree, you’ll find that you’re limited in the companies you can apply to but most marketplaces and freelancing won’t require a degree. Yes, in your intro video, highlight what makes you unique, but mostly focus on how you help students (why should they choose you over others?) I have a mini-course called Teach Online in 10 Days made for newly TEFL certified teachers. TEFL courses teach you methods of teaching ESL, but not how to create your intro video, etc. which is why I made this mini-course. Let me know if you have questions!

      Does it pay well? No. Cambly is a great place to get started teaching online because it doesn’t require a degree or experience. However, if you want to do this full-time you will need to add on other companies or freelance. Is it worth it? For beginners who need experience, yes.

    Do you have an email address where we can reach you? Or any IG handle. I applied on Cambly using your referral link this time.
