Hello Brian
We are a couple turning 50 and thinking of working full time about 10 more years and we are both well educated and have good jobs. Is Hungary a good place to live after work life and do you need to know the language in advance to get settled? Have a nice Sunday. Best regards from Sweden👍🌞

I'm from Brazil and I'm thinking about visiting Hungary. Seeing these videos it seems like a great place to live. My mother's ancestors came from Hungary so it gives me an extra motivation to going there.
@Ricardo Metring. I hope you have a great trip to Hungary! Maybe you'll end up living there after your trip.
@@roninblue5885 Perhaps that wouldn't be bad :)
If you can prove that you can apply for citizenship
Hi! When you showed Goulash, you actually showed Gulyás, which is a soup (has no english name). The Goulash you have been desrcibeing (thick stew) is called Pörkölt.
Mindegy. Finom mind a ketto.😀
Nice video. Been to Hungary twice now. Have considered to moving and retiring there, before Covid
I love Budapest and Szentendre
The pronunciation of cities, food and Balaton! OMG! 😊😊😊 Sorry, I'm Hungarian and I know our language is difficult, but...😁
What a great video. My dad is from Hungary.
@Centisible. Thank you. Would you want to live there?
My mother fled in ‘56 and I was there in 77 and 2002 (before and after Soviet) but I didn’t find Hungarians “friendly” (and I speak some Magyar) VERY RESERVED people... less so than Austrians... but I’ve traveled a lot India, Indonesia etc. Nevertheless, I’m serious thinking of retiring there because of my cultural interests
Since the lack of soviet influence, that really impacted the elderly, has left us behind, the current generation is much more "friendly", since people are no longer carried away to be shot on the spot by the infamous "black cars".
Iam sorry if you had a bad experience. I was only a kid, back in 2002, but Iam sure that things have changed since.
Good review.
is there country areas, thank you for mentioning other towns like eger/szeged insread of only mentioning budapest
very informative. thank you.
You are welcome!
I want to retire permanently in Hungary by buying residential property and live there. My monthly expenses will be paid by my investment back home country which I can get on monthly basis. Can I get residence permit for that purpose?
@Laura Moreno Check out this site:
www.bmbah.hu/index.php?lang=en
I think that you can qualify for "Residence Permit for Other reason " if you show a proof of residence and a stable monthly income whose official amount is not shown. Residence can be rental or owned. The Other reason residence permit does not allow you to have a job or do business so I think this option may be valid for people like you and me. There is no permit exclusively for retirees though. By the way which country are you from?
@@bobwa399 You live in Hungary whenever you want.
How can I get citizenship in Hungary
Be white
If you are a woman I marry you.
Your mother must have been born in Hungary, and you must be able to speak the language. That would be me, but my husband on the other hand, while he is white, has no Hungarian ancestors and will never be able to speak the language (we have tried)So he could be a permanent resident with a green card, just never a citizen even if he owns a house in Hungary. Being white is not the primary factor despite what people will tell you. After all your mother can be Hungarian born Roma and you could be very dark, and you could speak the language and become a citizen.
Do you pay income taxes as a retiree there? What about health insurance? (I also have the Hungarian EU passport;-)))

Great video, Ronin. Though, there is this "elephant in the room" question that persists with a lot of these European cities. What is it like for a person of color to live there? I know from my own travels in Europe that there are some places where non-white foreigners encounter varying degrees of racism. Sometimes, it's simply the locals being unaccustomed to non-white visitors. At its worst, it comes in the form of religious, ethnic, and racial intolerance. What has been your experience?
Hungary is pretty much just what you mentioned, black people in particular are pretty few and far between in Hungary but outside the obvious idiots who exist everywhere you go people generally don't care about race, people see it, give it a quick thought since it's not seen often then move on and do things as they'd usually do. The more difficult thing to overcome is the language barrier. Definitely have access to a bigger city because people in rural areas, especially the elderly tend to speak less English if any at all.
@@miklosszabo4551 Thanks Miklos,. You are correct about the idiots that you find anywhere. I've found most people to be decent. The biggest twist for the expat is the higher risk of settling in a place where they're suddenly faced with the reality of being a non-tourist. Vacationing overseas and living overseas are vastly different, in terms of how you can be treated. Thanks again.
Thanks for the love Ronin, but I was really looking for a reply that addressed my question.
It really depend on where exactly in Hungary you would go. On the countryside, in small villages, people would give you the look, as people of color is quite rare there. However, in major cities, I think it is quite normal to see all kinds of people, and hungarians are gotten used to it. I do not think that we would be particulary racist.
health care is not free here.
Just dont liberalise my country man.
Exactly.....don't let westerners ruin your nation like they are ruining the West.
I am from Hungary, naturalised American and tried to retire to Hungary. There just hours after we buried my father 2013 - My apartment (fully bought, not rental) was broken into, then after repeated occurance till 2014- taken from me. Not enuf? - my SSI pension of about 650 bucks a month stopped in april 2015 - making me homeless hobo in western EU with no income at all. Try it, very sporty at the age of 75! Of course - I learned that Hungary is not even the worst place in Europe - sadly...
The poster of this video clearly does not live in Hungary.....
You don't live in Hungary, do you?
He's a world traveler.
We’re not trying to diversity Hungary now are we after the mess it made of the west
