My wife is Hungarian and we just returned from 3 weeks in Hungary. We are fortunate to have enjoyed Hungary in 2022. This year we celebrated the Hungarian National Day on the 20th of August this year. I love Budapest and Hungary it’s people, it’s culture it’s beauty, the food. Budapest is an incredibly beautiful city.
as a Hungarian, I'd add some thoughts: 1) corruption: though it exists (as everywhere else), you're not affected as an expat so don't worry about it. 2) food: our food is different from what you might be used to. It may shock you how much fat, sugar, salt and all other good stuff we eat. 3) if you like cakes, you must visit Szamos and Gerbeaud the two most famous cake shops. 4) traffic culture: is way worse than that in western EU. You're going to meet some assholes here. 5) public transport: very good and cheap - AFAIK
Once you have tasted Gulyash and heard one of the local violinists play, you are sold. In Hungary music is a religion. You like or you do not like. It is very profound.
But that is the view through pink glasses. The view you get visiting there. Living in a country is a different number, once the holiday mode fades off and everyday life starts (like in any country)
The way you are saying Budapest is so beautiful, and you said Debrecen with a cute Spanish-like accent :D The way you said Kiskunhalas was top tier, and Miskolctapolca is really tricky and you still did a great job! I don't know if you practiced a lot or if you are naturally good, but I personally rally appreciate that you put the effort in ^-^ The upsides and criticism you gave about the country are all correct, and Lucy's interview was a good addition too! Thank you so much for the video!
Yes, I am so fed up with the woke madness and liberal attempts to keep us Americans from having our God given rights that are supposed to be guaranteed in the construction. Liberals are also trying to cram communism down our throats while places like Hungry have removed their communist chains decades ago. They are also smart enough to know the horrible influences from George Soros are destroying countries like the USA and have banned him and his NGOs from Hungry. They also promote legal immigration but have refused illegal immigrants from over running their country in an attempt to change the heritage of their country.. I am seriously thinking to moving legally to Hungry. Seems like a beautiful, sane country.
Also we don't really have any dangerous predators and deadly insects. We have some boars and deers here and there, and some bears started reappearing in some (very few) places. The most dangerous insect here is probably the tick, we don't have any deadly insects or arachnids (excpet brown recluse spider, but even then there's only a low chance of dying). We don't have deadly snakes, only 2 venomous species and neither are deadly (one of them has a very low chance of causing death), also they are very rare. Basically if you don't want to fear wildlife come here.
Would have liked way more about how to get the information. Who do you ask etc. Less about the regions, more about process to apply for permanent residency would have been great.
Yeah about the weather: those stats are basically meaningless now because of climate change. We haven't had snow in almost 10 years now and the average summer temperatures are closer to 35° rather than 25.
Largest cities: Budapest, Debrecen, Szeged - during decades, Miskolc, a northeastern city was on podium instead of Szeged, there was a period when it used to be even more populated than Debrecen. It was an industrial city during Socialist era, but it had to face hard times after change of political system, factories and mines in neighbourhood were shut down, a lot of people lost their jobs and left the city. Btw, there are a lot of bad stereotypes about the city which exaggarate its disadvantages.

Orban is trying to make sure that the tiny Hungarian nation can survive in a dizzyingly changing world. If he and Hungarians allowed the country to be swamped by a large number of diverse migrants, then you could kiss Hungarian life, tradition, customs, identity good-bye. Have you thought of that?
