Bear is such a sweet dog and his smile is hilarious. He just putters around enjoying himself with all the critters. They seem to know that he is their guard dog and watches out for them.
Love the babies! You need a net bag to carry your morels. That way when you carry them around to collect their spores will fall back to earth so you have future shrooms. 💕🍄
Be very Thankful it was a nasty storm, by the time it got to Indiana and Ohio it was deadly. Daniel dont apologize for thinning out the predators, I live in Oklahoma and there are coyote hunts around our area this spring. People that live in Cities dont understand if you dont do wildlife management all these predators will be showing up in the big Cities, looking for food.
Bear thinks those babies are his babies. Bear is the best❤. I think milking the Mama will really help the baby be able to latch on. Tell Houston he better get rested up for fishing season
Watching your videos (minus the hunting and fishing ones) gives me a feeling of being grounded and that even with all the craziness going in, the world is still right in some places.
Poor Spot. She's such an excellent looking milk goat. She actually looks like she has perfect udders for a portable milk machine that sits on top of a steel milk collection bucket. Even if just once a day, please hand strip dry both sides to best ensure fresh milk continues and mastitis stays far away. You would be surprised how much milk you can collect for the family and/or other farm animals from just one milking a day and still keeping singles on good milk goats. You can even freeze some for future bottle babies.
Well women know that the older we get certain parts turn south! Poor mama is unfortunately experiencing the same problem! I am in the San Francisco Bay Area and we have a bunch of wild turkeys in our area. We actually put wild bird feed and grubs out for them. Last year we had a baby fly into our house. 😁🙌😊
I used to live in Central Florida and the wild turkeys rooster in the trees on my property. We had so much fun watching them. They would parade their young through our yard. I miss that now.
Momma keeps pushing baby to the teete . Relieve mom of some mlks gives comfort. She is relaxed with you doing this for her. Lot of freezer meat. Blessings to Arms Family Farm 🙏🫶🙏🫶
Hey Daniel! I will be at the Okie Homesteading Expo!!! My son and I have our tickets!!! And we are halfway there!!! Getting excited to see you and Houston!!! I’m dealing with some stage 4 cancer in my abdomen. Long time viewer! Don’t miss an episode!!! God bless you and your family and safe travels for you and Houston!!! See you soon! 💙🙏🏻💙🙏🏻💙
You've probably seen the documentary about the guy who raises a brood of wild turkeys and the communion with wildlife that opens up when the other forest animals see him as a mama turkey and not a human. If you haven't seen it, it's available on RUclips and I think you'd love it given how much you love nature. It's titled something like My Life as a Turkey.
Yesterday morning, I heard about 4 booms of thunder. Made me set up. I thought we were being bombed. It took me a few minutes to realize it was thunder. I knew storms were coming. Congratulations on the new baby goat. I like goats. All them babies are adorable.
OK I'm not a expert in mushroom hurting but my buddy Bill (God rest his soul) was & he said you should not use plastic bags to carry out your mushrooms only use burlap or mesh bags so the spores can fall thru & replant. I don't know how true this is but old Bill away found alot of mushrooms
Omg I think I would just keel over and die for sure doing that work out , good for you both Impressive guys . I bet none of your sheriff friends could do that work out. 🏋️♂️
Just a tip so it don’t happen to your other goats and they can have babies longer and not have that problem- That’s called blown teats it’s from being so full and not getting relieved. 90% of the time it happens when the mama is drying up after having babies the mama has to be relieved at least once a day so that doesn’t happen so that she can slowly dry up. It doesn’t happen to every single goat. It just depends on how full that goats utter gets.
I was told it could be genetic as well. My Nubians sometimes would have big udders but nothing like hers. I had one that refuses to dry up no matter what we did to her, she still produced milk after a year and half.
I have two ideas for you to try with the baby goat. The easiest would be to get some type of strap, or harness, to lift the udder up and forward. See if the baby will nurse then. The second would be to build a platform for the mother to stand on, in a caged-in area (might be difficult to get the mother to cooperate). The baby would be on the ground, below the platform, where she can more easily find the udder.
Or as Daniel is milking mom. He could save the milk and then give a bottle. But with Mom's milk opposed to powder. And though Daniel doesn't want to bottle the baby. More than likely he will have too. Mom might not be up to all those suggestions you mention...though good ideas and thinking outside the box. My well trained dogs, don't tolerate much. Can't see a goat cooperating, but you never know, until you try.
Building a simple low “milking” stand for the mom to stand on to eat a little grain while baby nurses 2-3 times a day…especially right before dark particularly if it’s going to be cool…would be the easiest option. Giving the baby access to grain & hay would be a good idea since it will likely HAVE to wean off earlier than normal since the taller the baby gets the more difficulty it will have nursing. -The other option would be to try & hybrid feed with a bottle of mom’s milk 2-3 times a day with the baby still nursing during the rest of the day. But that runs the risk of the baby refusing to nurse & wanting solely the bottle. But within a couple weeks switching to bottle feeding may be the only option with the baby growing in size & mom’s bag being so low. I absolutely would NOT breed that mama goat again. Which is truly a shame as she is clearly such a great, calm, patient mama!😕 Maybe keep her around to help mother any future bottle babies y’all have.
You know how they say that owners look like their dogs? I've never seen it until now. If Dan and Bear aren't both distinguished gentlemen, I don't know who is.
Last year I had Morel’s growing in my yard. I have 3/4 of an acre that I keep mowed. I was shocked that I had 28 pounds of morels last year. I keep hoping that they’re gonna come back because I made sure I cut them correctly and then leave the roots behind. You got some great ones there
@@alithemagicbum I’m in Michigan and when I went back out there to see where I found them last year, I can see them just starting to pop up so I know I’m going to get more
I was going to suggest milking the mama, but you already knew that, lol. I don't have goats but watch other channels that have done that. It was great to see the baby latch on by itself. Praise the Lord. God bless y'all.❤
Should call the other turkey Darryl . "I'm Larry and this is my brother/son Darryl and my other brother Darryl ."( Bob Newhart Show) . I live in a tiny little town in Miss. and we got a tornado out of that storm , trees and gas canopies down , It was a wierd storm .
Wow that was a bad storm. Sorry no rain but you missed the bad weather. What a sweet little baby. Hope baby starts doing better. Mom is really being patient with you
Sorry to hear about DeJay's sisters car as hail can to some damage. Sure hope the baby goat does ok since it having a hard time at getting milk and feel bad for the Mama as well. Never have had that type of mushroom but after seeing y'all eating them year after year I'd love to try it. I've never seen them around here. Enjoyed watching. Love y'all
It's better to play it safe when hail is possible. When we movies to Florida in March 1994 we saw hail damaged cars and properties everywhere. That meant the house we bought had a new roof and a new, reinforced screen room over the pool and deck. The wind and hail had twisted the walls as well as ripping the screens.A couple of hurricanes and hail have hit since we moved here but there's been no real damage again.
We get crazy hail up here in the ChiTown area all the time. Once a person makes a claim for hail/storm damage, either to their car or their home, the insurance compamy will at first pay out. However, once the company pays for that first storm damage, they'll drop you like a hot potato. Not just that: your home and your vehicles will also be blacklisted by every insurance company in your area (and probably nationwide as well) -- so, essentially, you'll never be able to purchase property/casualty insurance ever again. (Side note: Insurance companies share their information, so don't be surprised if you find yourself unable to purchase health insurance either...)
🇦🇺Mushroom gravy over the steak is wonderful. Have you ever thought of putting the glass pool panels to stop the dogs from walking on the outdoor kitchen bench tops?
I love new little goats. They dance, prance, jump, and just love life. .A mama turkey would bring her little ones (not that little), across our yard on their way to who knows where. Our cats would stalk them, but were frightened by the size. They'd jump on the wood pile and stone wall, and just hang out there. was quite a sight. Those morels looked yummy in the pan! Hope ya'll get some quiet rain. Much respect for your care for and of your critters . ❤
One Thanksgiving Day I heard strange sounds behind the house. There was a flock of wild turkeys in the low tree branches on the slope being our house. They were smaller and skinnier that turkeys for sale in supermarkets. Our neighbor got turkey feed at the local farm co-op. He fed them that and 32 year later their descendents still come back to that property and is still feeding them proper food.
The Expo will be great to take the extra merch to. I'm excited, I was in the hospital all drugged up not knowing who I or where I was. The first one I was in ICU with bacterial meningitis, the second one was a med switch and ended up I had some kind of reaction. This year I'm hiding so I can see the Expo on videos. Have fun!!!
I got lucky with the weather too. I got rain but not the damaging hail and wind. My sister lost a 49 plus year old oak tree but luckily it hit a fence, not the house. (Houston & Angleton, TX.)
When you guy's are outside grabbing those mushrooms, they are just so hard to spot w/ leaves down around them! But that takes good eyes to find them! Great job Houston & Dad Dan!❤❤❤❤

I saw that weather hitting Sulphur OK.. it looked awful. It hit Dutch area with awful strange fog, hail n rain flooding.. poor mama goat with those strange utters, know that hurts her. She knows you are trying to help her and the baby. I saw a farmer make a bra for a cow to hold the utters up so a calf could nurse…

Well done for doing the fitness challenge 👏👏👏Australia 🦘🐨🦘🐨🦘🐨😊
Taking care of the coyote issue is clearly helping the wild turkeys feel comfortable. Wouldn't it be funny to start seeing pied wild turkeys ? LOL
I dislike all types of mushrooms, gross!
Maybe, if coyotes were hunting during the day, turkeys roost in trees at night.
Shake the spores out, so you’ll have new ones next year.
