I think that third stone structure might have been a shepherd's/goatherds cot. Take the animals up to cooler pastures in the summer and bring them back down to the main house and barn when the weather turns.
I just wanted to say how proud I am of you two. You've been through so much. But remember that Mother Nature is magical and she will bring back life to your land as she likely has many times before. In the years past I'm sure there have been several devastating fires on that property. But Mother nature never gives up and so you guys must not give up either. In the next two years the land will renew itself and be reborn. I wish you both all the love and happiness and strength to build it back even better than before. Take care. 💜🙂💙

I guess you are in Heaven, just like a kid in a "Candy Store" with all those new toys. Have fun you are doing a great job of renovating this "Old Property" so glad to so many Brits like yourself renovating these old abandoned and unloved Portuguese properties. Tell Bea that I wish her a speedy recovery, I miss her smiling face and great personality.
I wouldn't touch or cur the threes because in acouple of years they can start again by themself. I saw it in Liguria: 3 years after a huge fire the threes start to grow again all by themselves.
I firstly though that the third structure was an old limestone furnace, because of the way that door was blocked, but maybe it was used for the roof tiles you found. We have that kind of furnace structures in Spain. They filled the furnace with tiles and blocked the door to keep the heat. It is common to have a close fire pit because it took a few days to "cook" the tiles, in which you had to constantly keep high temperatures. And it was a good way for farmers to make some extra money in winter when labour decreased. But maybe it is just some structure for animals, idk.
Dear Theo, this is such a beautiful property! But I cannot imagine, how one couple could operate the whole big farm. Are you going to employ some people to keep it running? I wish you and Bee all the best! You are so strong!
The property will sing under your care..I love all the fruit trees, your potential garden space and habitat returning... as you gain knowledge of the land you do have the opportunity to design resilience against future fires..Wonderful to have a lake, copters can scoop it to fight the fire.. and. here in California they say to have 2 exits off the property in case of fire...perhaps you already have that in place.. Looking forward to the ongoing healing on all fronts....

Late for the party but I am from Portugal. The only thing you can do with fires like that one is to at least free your animals to give them a chance of survival. That and keeping the property as clean as possible. These are not natural fires, they are criminal fires so it's pretty much impossible to stop them.

The eucalyptus is an Australian species that was only massively introduced in Portugal in the second half of the XX century, so it wasn't used in construction until recent decades, they would have used pine or oak. Also, those clay roof tiles were not made in the legs, that's a mith, otherwise all of them would be different and they wouldn't fit.
