- Muay Thai is one real-life martial arts style that is rather common in fighting games. The stance, attacks and characters that practice it are all iconic in their own right, and that’s what I’m here to look into. Who are the most iconic Muay Thai users in fighting games? Let’s take a look.

As a veteran Muay Thai instructor, I think Bruce Irvin (TEKKEN) is the most authentic of them all.
I'd say realistic more than authentic, if you're a vet then I'm sure you know that some fighters will come with some otherworldly shits at times.
The Muay Thai fighters have always been some of my personal favorites.

I like to think the real reason that Sagat and Ryu fought in the first game was because they were trying to get the same bowl of delicious Corn Flakes
What if the shoryuken that Ryu did to scar Sagat's chest was just Ryu trying to jump up and grab the bowl of corn flakes after Sagat was trying to eat it? The taste of the cereal was just so good that Ryu leaped up with enough force to kill when trying to take it from Sagat. Sounds like a great concept for a commercial.
Someone needs to animate this.

If you ever do an updated list, Fahkumram definitely needs to be on the list. The trailer itself made him look like a badass, but his story does even more so. Dude was struck by lightning as a kid, became the national Muay Thai champion as a teenager, was arrested after killing some thugs that attacked him after he refused to throw a fight, & them became a pawn of the military after they took his wife & daughter hostage.

"Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger Uppercut". Me and a few friends of mine still joke about Sagat's Tiger moves! Btw, great list. Personally, I'm a huge Bruce Irvin fan, so I would have placed Bruce in my personal top three Muy Thai fighters of all time.

You vastly underrate Zack, you talked about his buying islands. He bought those islands after WINNING the DOA3 tournament. The ONLY character on this list to win their game.
Sagat's cool eyepatch came from Dan Hibiki's father. If I remember correctly, he blinded him by either damaging or removing the eye from his head. For revenge, he killed him.
If it was an injury, Sagat was evil. If he took out his eye, Sagat was justified in taking revenge. Not a SF main, but funny to think how such a small detail can affect how you feel about a character's backstory

Though Sagat had already lost the eye in the artwork depicting Dan's father, so it's either a plothole or a retcon

Jofrid aarsvold folkedal thanks for the comment. Those characters are more like copycats or fighters that do other fighters movesets. I’m thinking of fighters that can turn into other fighters. But hey you may have came up your own top 10 list.

While I agree with the list(hell, finally someone said about Bruce being the most real Muay Thai fighter in a game), I have a “problem” with King
Like you said, Muay Thai is know as ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’, and even though we have real Muay Thai fighters focusing on one part of their body(Muay Khao is a fighters who uses knee a lot; Muay Matt is a fighter who uses his hands a lot, and so on)
But I have NEVER seen King using her Elbows or Knee, ONCE
It is always her legs(with a kick that doesn’t look like a traditional Muay Thai Kick).
I mean, sure, we do have real Muay Thai fighters who prefer to use kicks a lot, but even them use elbows and knees once in a while

You have a point! I appreciate that you broke it down since I generally give a pass to it not having to be 100% accurate, but she really just has the pose and kicks to it. I guess her story is what ultimately carried her to her spot on the list since I always liked that she was a fighting bartender. Making this video got me to appreciate Bruce a lot more when I was exploring his fighting style, so perhaps he'll beat out King in the future!
She is a Savate fighter. Not Muay Thai
I always thought king had more a similar style to Lee from tekken. But not muay thai.

I think I'll get king of fighters now and main in joe, he looks like so much fun to play as.
He is fun to play as but they're just some characters that outdo him very quickly in King of Fighters that a lot of characters are faster than him and that's kind of his downfall he's not that fast

I know Bryan Fury is technically rated as a kickboxer, but his elbows and knees and low kicks are super reminiscent of Muay Thai.

Tekken should be Number one on all of these martial arts even in karate, their realistic fighting stances and moves do justice to all corresponding Forms of combat.

True but alot of his normals are textbook muay thai moves, kinda stiff tho, but i still agree Adon does it better.
From personal experience, the further you are down the path of the nakmuay, the more calm, considered and simple your moveset tends to be. All those aerial kicks I had back in the day are figments of a bygone era. It's ironic that the sid muay wears mongol and prachaet and is arrogant. But the Ajarn Yai is calm and deliberate and only wears scars.

Capoeira top characters would be nice, but not sure there's enough of them. Many don't even know that Fatal Fury was pretty much the first fighting game to have the art in their tournament fighter style game. Long before Tekken brought their own.
Bangcat there really are not. Eddy, Christie, Momo from KOF, Elena from SF...there's really nobody else to mention

You could do a honorable mention to character that appeared and assist the player from the corner (i.e Peacock's gang or R.Mika friend), or a character with an animal companion or you could do that as an entirety different video

Jacqui Briggs also has a clinch. All MK11 characters have movesets that are moderately customizeable; a move you can equip to Jacqui Briggs is a clinch-grab. This is from which you can knee your opponent repeatedly, drive an elbow into their back, or kick them away. Clinches are a big part of Muay Thai.
Jaqui is terrible in MK11. Way better in MKX. From looks to fighting style. Now she looks like shopping mall yoga student. SJW bs. That's what MK11. Get better taste man
