I’ve taught a dozen or so people to play guitar, mainly cowboy chords. The one lesson IVE learned FROM them is you can’t MAKE people hear a chord change and make the change on time. They may know every chord that’s even been found ,but not being able to put them together in a song can be Extremely frustrating.
I always ask them to find 2 of their fav songs that they’ve been singing along with most of their lives.Ive also found it’s easier to teach them if they’ll sing while they’re playing because when it’s time for chord change, there’s going to be a “wreck” for them vocally if they don’t change to another chord.
Any suggestions? I’m teaching a guy to play 4 string bass and he’s having the same trouble ,but I’ve cut him some slack as opposed to the guitar players because some folks just can’t sing & play bass at the same time. I’m literally having to tell him when to change to the next chord.

Awesome lesson Jimmy. Doobies' Black Water and a lot of Tim Hardin's songs are in double dropped D. Great tuning to noodle around too.
    Thanks for posting.
