Kallie Knoetze was and always will be my favourite boxer.
As a South African I have to give accolades to Sharkey for putting up such a good performance. He was graceful and brave did a good job against a bigger man who could be very rough and knocked many bigger heavyweights in the first couple of rounds. I do apologize for his bravado before the fight. He was known as the Bek van Boomstraat in South Africa, which means 'the Mouth from Tree Street" (😂 I realize the title it does not work in English).
Im swa"n and agree with u 100%...
There was a time when white South African heavies were tough, Coetzee, Knoetzer, Duplooy. Thanks coach.
Tough, but untalented.
I agree cause currently Ruann Visser is age 29 and just a tall journeyman who probably will 👎 not even do anything in the division.
You forgot Francois Botha
Corrie Sanders was a pretty good contender too
@@pamle1 He was WBO Heavyweight Champion, probably SA's best heavyweight ever, 46 fights & 4 losses.
Rest in peace Bill Sharkey
Bill Sharkey was murdered a few years back, he was found shot and his body set ablaze inside of a container out in The Poconos in Pennsylvania. The case remains unsolved.
Thanks for posting this fight
4/1/1977 Unbeaten Bill Sharkey lost very close fight to Mike Weaver, it was non stop action from round 1 till the end. Sharkey battered Weaver from pillar to post 1st 3 rounds, a ko looked in the cards for Sharkey. Weaver rode the storm out & won by split decision. Years later Weaver said this was one of his toughest fight ever, Sharkey just kept coming at me. Maybe one day this action fight will show up somewhere. Main event Joe Alexander ko 1 Greg Johnson. Alexander a dangerous puncher who was way to in active in his boxing career.
Sharkey was really a cruiserweight, but, the division did not exist then
Coachstrout always on the roll Nice!!
Yeah tye late 70s in South Africa, Kallie en Gerrie, drive ins, Abba and Bonet M at weekly house parties, oh and so many other good things

Knoetze lost his first 11 amateur bouts?! Wow! This is a guy who really wished to be a boxer!
James Hash talk about dedication, I don't know if I could keep on after 11 straight loses, but then again I'm not "Cassius" Kallie Knoetze!
I would have hung up the gloves after the third loss and perhaps tried bowling.
What ever happened to Knoetze after the John Tate fight????
Both Kallie and Joe Bugner did pop up in some Bud Spencer movies. Both were knocked out. Kallie flew in to the crowd.
Bom-ber! Bom-ber! Bom-ber!
Thank God for Florida! Politics and sports don't mix and it stay this way
Knoetze could bang and if he had developed a jab and worked that power more to the body, he could have gone further.
Sharkey was just way too small.
I think Gerry Cooney fought Eddie Lopez on the undercard
Yes, Originally scheduled for 10 rounds and cut to 8 during the fight to allow time for the main event-this fight.
Does anyone know why they tried to stop Knoetze from fighting in the USA?
I don't think it was because he was a white South African... I think it was because he was a policeman on top of it
Apartheid?
It was a light heavyweight should not have sanctioned that fight
Hah ! Opening comment is of the mockery-act “ reverend “ joke , Jesse Jack’ who lip-flips about “ operation push” . That jack ought to push for inspiring people to endeavor toward personal commitment to bettering selfs instead of free - loafing and riding a cry baby train.
Kinootza seemed to be very stupid.
You American? Compared to your current president, Brandon, and even the orange one before him, he was a genius
You don't seem very clever spelling his name like that?
Not a good boxer kallie knoetze
