Fuck what I think about Lars today, this guy annihilated the drums on the first 4 albums, and then again later on Death Magnetic!!
His drums are so hidden in Rdl, "Trapped under ice" is world class drumming, Lars was a beast.
You can hear the edits. He annihilated the drums in very small sections at a time.
@@joshridge6068 And ? That's how it supposed to be recorded ? Same shit for guitar
@eliasHZAT Nope, most drummers will strive to get a clean whole take on record. That's certainly what I do, as do literally tens if thousands of recording drummers.
If you're going into the studio unable to play the song cleanly, then you either need to practice more, or simplify your part.
@@nickrails Ok so then we should shit on Hetfield's work too ? Cause most of his sections are recorded separately, same for the bass, same for vocals.
lars sure took some vitamins to make this one
Cocaine baby
Cocaína
Yeah, coke is one hell of a vitamin
My god the cadence on 3:39 is so brutal, sounds like Pete Sandoval, I changed of mind about Lars.
The whole solo section after 3:36 is awesome, but holy crap the burst at 4:07. I don't care how many takes that took, go Lars lol
I remember reading an interview where they talked about piecing this drum track together out of many takes. They went on to discuss playing it live and said that they practiced it but could never get it together.
Nice way of saying Lars couldn’t get it together lol
every elite drummer does this
@@uome20bukz Bro this song is way easier on guitar
@@uome20bukz drums are the hardest part of this song, i don't think Kirk, James and Jason had the same the fatigue playing their parts
@@cole3774 No, no they don't.
You can literally watch Eloy Casagrande play a brilliantly executed single take of this song right here on YT. Good drummers will play multiple clean takes of songs then pick they, or the producer, or the band, pick the best take. In time pressured situations there may be the odd edit, but it isn't standard practice to play small sections of a song and splice them together - because it takes way longer than a drummer just nailing it one or three takes. You only do shit like that if your drummer has tried 30 takes and can't lock it in.
Theses fucking drums are insane
Perfectly Imperfect I'd say. Pieced together for sure but still live passages. You can hear it in his feet. A little smeared in spots but fantastic. This is art.
Double kick starts here 1:12
Thanks bro
@@WEENIEHUTTBOSS Why "Thanks" for that ,you can well hear it youself ????
these drums go so hard
lars was a beast in his prime days
we need Lars on coke again
I like this beat. ty man.
This is real Lars original studio parts?
yes
Why does the double kick sound more like aggressive keyboard typing than a kick
EQ and lots of tape splicing for consistent attack
They raised the frequency of the hammers hitting the skins with the EQ.
I always wanted to know what china he used here. It sounds like a bowling strike, and always has. Its so fuckin percussive and heavy.its not the greatest china cymbal but it worked so well for some of these songs. Just bright, quck, fast, dies off fast
The china sound from this album alone inspired me to buy a $300 one for myself, it’s that iconic
I believe its a Zildjian 20" A Series China Low Cymbal
I would love to hear gojira cover this song that alien mario duplanter would eat this shit alive
Lars era 85-90 he was a beast
Lars cut out the plug so he could play the song. Live, he couldn't do it.
Meh, needs more double bass
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more double bass!
No, the song has only the exactly double bass it needs
That super fast double bass drum stuff has to be fake. It sounds fake!
not fake, just a took a shit ton of takes to get them. this drum track is a bunch stitched together, but the playing is legitimate
I heard that Lars played like a couple measures of the double bass part, and then they duplicated it over and over to create each section.
@@rollforeverderbs that's a thing they did on every part actually even the vocals
Imagine creating a drum line where you can’t play live 😂😂😂
All because of that double bass, not even dave lombardo has double bass that long in any slayer song
@@lokiinepeI'm sure Lombardo could handle it live no problem, though. But to Lars credit, I bet he could have handled ONE verse live. Always wished he wouldve given it the Damage Inc treatment live (final verse gets double kick) instead of skipping it altogether.
Remember that they never played this song on his prime i think he could have handled it in the 80s considering how well he handled the other double bass lines on other songs. He kinda sucks Live right now .Probably lacking of practice or some shit.
@@lokiinepesilent scream is pretty close
@@lokiinepeSilent Scream begs to differ with that statement. Maybe the song is shorter but the double bass parts are longer. Also you can find tons of vids them playing it live and faster than album version.
