21O has a SPECIAL surprise for 9S ("Secret" Dialogue) - Route C Intro - Air Defense Hacking

- There is an extra line of dialogue 9S can hear if you hack all of the air defense enemies. The game will progress the story when the air defense strength is under 25%. Get it to 0% and 21O might be more than pleased with you.
The last hack is around 6:00.

9S's operator was trying to be a mother to 9S. Later on in the game when the logic virus begins to wipe out all of the YorHa and 9S goes on his little revenge quest, he can come across 21O and put her out of her misery. As you are fighting her, she cites the specific reason that she wanted to be family with 9S, and a tearful (and also most likely pissed off) 9S pledges that he'll put her out of her misery.

The reason operator 21O is actually really nice here is because she is treating 9s like family, possibly a son even. I thought she was being condescending at first but it’s actually super wholesome and I never figured this out until now.

I think she knew this was their last mission. She knew she would die along with the others so she made sure to give him all her love and care before she regrets not telling him that she cares. In the past she wanted to show love and care for nines but since emotions are prohibited she kept it all away. She was so lonely, nines was too
No I think she actually saw this as the chance to finally leave the war behind and live in peace as a family with 9S. She decided to undergo B equipment transition so that she could make sure 9S was safe and lived through the day.

I noticed a lotta comments think 210 was acting strange because of her eventual close ties to 9S. But I think she was already infected with the Logic Virus and acting on behalf of the machines. Not only do we learn that 210 became a combat unit (the first types to be hit with the Virus before the Operators), but re-listen to her dialogue. 210 specifically told 9S to stay out of the fight after he was done hacking. 210 claims it's because he is a 'liability'. However, 9S had already proven himself strong and capable. In fact, between 2B and 9S, 9S is the BIGGER threat to the machines. His hacking skills was key to bringing down Eve. 9S himself defied death by exploiting the network. Even Yohra itself felt threatened by 9S's abilities (hence 2B's mission).
This is why 210 specifically told 9S to stay out of the fight. This is also why 210 keeps 9S occupied on a fool's errand. The whole 'hacking' plan didn't accomplish anything. If anything, I believe it served to distract 9S and the other Scanners - they'd be too busy hacking the targets than detecting a trap. This explains why 9S faced little enemies during his infiltration and little resistance. 9S and the other Scanners were MEANT to find those targets.
Considering this, everything points to 210 being infected. She was in a prime position to keep 9S occupied on this fool's errand - she'd already earned his trust and was a direct link to 9S. This would've made 210 a prime target for the machines. This also explains why 210 was still acting as an Operator to 9S, despite being reassigned as a combat unit.
I believe the game wanted to give gamers subtle clues that something was amiss without being too obvious about it. Everything from the eerie music that plays in the background, to lack of baddies in the area,, to ease of the mission, to 210's sudden behavior shift were meant as red flags.
With this in mind, it actually does make the gamer feel foolish for earning 100% in this operation. ;-; Seriously. Think about it. By earning 100% on the job, we prove how gullible we are, being too distracted with our fool's errand than paying attention to the red flags. o_o I know I definitely felt stupid for earning 100%. Hearing 210's playful, condescending tone only made this feeling worst. 210 regards 9S as a child BECAUSE he is currently acting as gullible as a child.
That's a lot of writing but it's much more simple than that. She has a sidequest where she wants to learn about the family hierarchy of humans when they were still alive. This is why she treats 9S like a kid, as 9S complains. It's very convenient for her to play the mother role as she has to keep tabs on everything 9S does.

Given her comments about him hacking and "treating him like a kid" as 9s puts it, with her dialogue during the fight, I think she imagines 9s as more of the son she could never have. I was dreading what would happen when the Bunker incident occurred and 21O never made an appearance
What happens if you go to the bunker before the operation actually starts by transfering to the bunker and actually talking to her in person.
She'll say you should be on the ground doing your mission.
I suppose 9S earned his "humanity".
Still, I don't think he has a crotch(he's synthetic after all), so no D for 21O.
If you go back to the bunker before meeting with 2B, you can go into 210's room and get a bunch of +6 plug in chips (4 chips in total)

I derped and ran into the mall area while she was talking, so her dialogue got cut. But this makes alot of sense. 210 wants a family, and initially thought of 9S as a "son". But over the course of this mission, 9S shows confusion about being spoken to like one. Perhaps 210 eventually deduced that 9S could be the "Father" of the family instead of the "Son".
Either way, gotta love little easter eggs like this.

Considering the treating him like a kid, and the fact this was all prompted by doing the family sidequest and giving 21O data on human families and children, it's more likely she wants him to be a son than a lover.

When 21o become infected and turn against 9s, she did says she wanted to be with 9s. I am assume it is more than son or brother. I have to keep beating her with melee combat though in order to activate that line.
I see comments thinking the surprise being either romance, or something to do with the virus. I have an alternative theory. Later in the game we learn that 21O was refitted for combat. Maybe the surprise was her old operator components. She even said she was lonely, wanted a family and wanted to be with 9S. Maybe after seeing 9S paired with 2B, 21O
maybe hoped she would be deployed with 9S in the future.

I believe 210 was infected. I made a post about it, detailing the clues and reasons why this is likely the case. I'll list them here:
- 210 specifically instructs 9S to keep out of the fight once he is done hacking into his targets. Despite 210 claiming 9S is a 'liability', he actually poses the BIGGEST threat to the machines. Not only had 9S taken down Eve, but he defied 'death' by exploiting the network to his advantage. His tendency to pay attention to the details is what led Yorha itself to view him as a risk. Thus, of anyone, 9S is the biggest maverick around and would've learned of the machine's trap had he did some digging. This means...
- ...9S's mission regarding the air defense was nothing more than a ruse - a fool's errand designed to keep 9S and the other Scanners too occupied to detect the trap that was about to set as well as give the false impression that the machines were vulnerable for an attack. The mission being a ruse explains the lack of baddies in the area as well as the little resistance 9S faces during his mission. Had this been a legit mission, the machines would've gone balls-out to protect the ones transmitting the signals, especially when they would've known YorHa was coming. The REAL 210 would've noticed this - her aloof calculative demeanor would've found something amiss and at least warned 9S to keep his guard up. Yet, THIS 210 plays along as if there's nothing wrong with this picture. :P
- 210 was likely infected before this event because of her direct link to 9S. She'd earned his trust and was in a prime position to give him orders, even when she was no longer his Operator. This would've made her a prime target for the machines, someone they can use to deal with 9S. This also explains why 210 remained 'alive' long enough to fight 9S at the end. The machines intended to use her for as long as they could.
- 210's behavior is more reflective of the true antagonist's. Like the voice we hear when the pillars rise, 210 is playful and treats 9S as a kid in the middle of a cat-and-mouse game. This leads me to believe the one to infect 210 and, perhaps, even control her, was the Red Girl.
- Had 210's behavior been the result of natural change - of her learning to be 'kinder' - then 9S wouldn't act surprised or put off by it so suddenly. 9S would've indicated in his dialogue that this was an ongoing development on her part. Yet, 210's behavior shift appears to be a RECENT event, as indicated by 9S - who isn't too pleased by it. This sudden behavior change is happening in a curious time where the machines are setting up a trap against YorHa. It's too much of a coincidence. Not to mention, 9S's dialogue is a clear indication that this sudden change of behavior is NOT consistent with 210 he knows.
- The eerie music, the unusual ease of the mission, and 210's sudden behavior shift are all meant to be subtle warning signs to the gamer. Unlike other games that smack us across the face with the truth, Automata demands us, the gamers, to pay attention and note the red flags. We are experiencing this tragic set of events as 9S would. We are MEANT to feel confused and put off by 210's behavior. We are MEANT to feel something amiss as we easily dispatch each enemy target with little resistance. We are MEANT to feel unease by the quietness.
- Lastly, 210 treats 9S as a child because he IS acting as a child by following her orders without question. He is playing into the machine's hands. By fulfilling 100% of this mission, we (the gamer) actually prove that we're as gullible as 9S; we're too focused on our mission of getting 100% that we play into the machines' trap like 9S. And thus, 210 gives us all a very fake 'congratulations'. :P
It's the biggest troll act ever in a video game. XD
I know I'm late, but here's a tip anyway. When controling a slow machine, intead of jumping to try to get to your destination faster, turn your back to the destination and press the dash button repeatedly, it's way faster.

The babytalking and "Special surprise for you" sounds like she's been compromised already by the Red Girls. 11S's insistance to get the update immediately also sounds like it's the Red Girls. But the beauty of it is that 21O could also be in-character and just hinting at wanting to be a mother
It was ironic, that forced to hide emotions 2B, had an operator acting like a little careless emotional girl, while 9S couldnt tell his operator his feelings. So sad.
I wonder how 2B would’ve reacted if she found out that 210 left a “surprise” in her room for 9S

Those were exactly my thoughts when I first encountered the hacking "terminal" in the fight against Simone. I would guess that Yoko Taro or some other big cheese at Platinum Games was a big fan of Sly Cooper, and I have no problems with that :)

Hold on, wasnt she was a battle unit during this fight? Was she calling him to check up on his progress even though she wasn't an operator anymore?
You can go back to the bunker and she's still up there, but considering that's kinda "story-breaking" that 9S would leave the battlefield, I wouldn't really call it canon. So maybe she left after 9S finished or maybe she really is just calling him from the field.
They weren't deployed yet, they were still in the Bunker getting the Mission Breifing, as this mission with 9S was to take down any Anti-Air defenses. So she would've still been in the Command Center, as it was before the mission.
on top of that 9S was suppose to report back to the bunker after his section of the mission to update his data (but never did). he just went to see 2B afterwards. it's also why the S models didn't get infected and its why you find that1 S model at the kingdom area by himself.

I know it’s been years and I don’t mean this as an insult but. You have a lvl of 79 yet I noticed that you look unfamiliar with the routes.
To be fair, it's possible that they got to level 79 elsewhere and didn't replay this chapter much. I don't think they were unfamiliar with City Ruins per se, just reconciling it with the target locations.

Someone explain or I want to call bullshit on there being an 11S when supposedly 9S and 2E are the strongest and most recent models based off the A2 prototype.

Model Number. 9S is supposed to be the newest model meaning he'd be slow at first but there being an 11S defeats the purpose of him being the Newest and strongest model.
Maybe the fact that 11S is not superior but simply was given an easier mission. I believe YoRHA always strives for perfection leading them to always experiment with new units

this cannot be Route C, Route C starts after the bunker exploded... this must be Route B
This is the beginning of route C before all the shit goes down and we see the "intro credits". 9S clears the air defenses, 2B lands, they meet up and help other YoRHa, then androids go crazy, they blow themselves up to return to the bunker, "the virus is already at the bunker" BINGO!, then intro credits.

And finally, as for the reason why Japanese voice of 21O is better - in the original version she sounds more distanced and stoic, she kind of sounds like 2B, which creates a very interesting correlation between the two pairs (2B and her 6O and 9S and his operator 21O) Which adds to the relationship of 2B and 9S. In the english dub she just sounds generic and without any character.
Oh, and for how can you check the jap voices? You could do the obvious thing, start up the game and play some of it with the japanese dubbing.

I just don't like the character and his attitude, the worst is that basically he is the central part of the story and everything is around him which sucks. A2 was my favorite character, it sucks she didn't have enough content around her, the first time I kind of felt sad for a video game character, actually the second time since I also felt sad for Snake in MGS4,

Alex seems to me you didn't understand why 9s started acting the way he did. That's a key story element that you just passed off as him being an "A-hole" which is kinda sad. Also 9s had been developing as a character since route A, so to say he had been "regressing" makes little to no sense, unless you only played route C. After 2Es death he kept developing maybe not into a character you liked but he developed nonetheless. But idc a2 was cool but 9s had the better story line imo
