It was SO fun to look back on old haul videos and see how my habits and tastes have changed. Is there anything you used to shop for that you don't anymore?
Allison Anderson could you talk about the guilt surrounding buying lots of stuff? And maybe the regrets of wasting money. I am feeling so guilty “wasting” money but I feel like I’m getting so caught up on what everyone else has and has bought I’m in a vicious circle.
I am on the same page about these items. It has been YEARS since I have purchased any of these items with the exception of buying clothing when I went on vacation last year and a Christmas dress for a party. I love the idea of renting clothing.... thx for the tip. 🙂
I’ve been following your channel since the haul and makeup days but still love your content then and now. I’ve changed my habits as I’ve grown up as well. I think it’s just part of life, going from the cycle of “living your best life” to “living your best life financially and efficiently.” I’m happy that I’ve broken habits like buying makeup (I used to buy every MAC collection the first day they came out-haha) and now enjoying life in a different way with life experiences and seeing the world and what’s out there.
In college I definitely fell under the category of "RUclips made me buy it". I followed all the beauty guru channels and had to have everything everyone else was hauling because I just got sucked up in the craziness, spending what little money I had on stuff I didn't need (particularly makeup that really didn't match my skin tone, but I had to buy that shade because my favourite RUclipsrs had it). My style and taste has certainly evolved in the minimalist, less-is-more direction. I stopped shopping for guest entertainment items. For instance, really nice place settings, all kinds of fancy serving ware, etc... I always wanted to throw dinner parties and be THE hostess, but then I finally realized I'm a hermit and had 2 good friends who I never invited over for dinner. Now I have just a few serving items because sometimes we host Thanksgiving, but that's it.
I still get physical books, so instead of buying a 'thing' when I'm on a trip, I've decided to start buying postcards, writing a great trip memory on it, and using it as a bookmark. Can't wait to grow my collection when I travel again!
I LOVE that idea! I was buying magnets but getting annoyed with how cluttery they looked anywhere I put them. I like the idea of post cards! I might hole punch them and put them on a ring to keep them together as an album of sorts. Could even do this with a printed photo of each trip to make it more personal.
Alison I honestly think this represents such growth. Back in the earlier days of RUclips, the beauty community was completely centred around consumerism, and I think everyone got caught up in the hype. I think of it now the way you described it in another video, buying for your fantasy self, eg buying heels when you hate wearing them. It’s so refreshing to see people like yourself moving away from this and being so much more conscious of what you’re buying, and now buying meaningful purchases and not buying for the sake of having “stuff”.
Meghan Rienks has talked about this as well in a video! RUclipsrs back then were into filming monthly favorites videos and it would just be a lot of money spent on products
Also helps that you bump into the main problem with consumerism, which is that you have too much stuff and you don't have enough space for it so your house is super cluttered. And you care more about your money because you know you work hard for them and there are other things you can do with them.
I've been a follower for a long time and I've also realized that I am no longer that interested in hauls or getting lots of decor. I think this is proof that we have matured and grown (or gotten older hahaha) and shifted our mind sets. Less seems to be more these days.
I also agree. I think also that as we get older we really figure out what we really like and tend to not buy as much stuff...and we also don’t NEED anything because you only need so much stuff and we already have everything that we need. My husband and I struggle around Christmas and birthdays to even find anything to buy each other. Most of the time we just order a pizza or something these days!
This is definitely a huge step in the adulting process. When you get to be in your thirties you realize that all of it is just materials and meaningless. Also, this stuff is expensive and the older we get, the more bills we get too it shows that you are becoming more mindful of that. Great video!
I feel like there’s such a negative connotation surrounding minimalism in the sense that it means all neutrals, having nothing and living a boring life. It doesn’t have to be that at all. For me, the key is to get fewer, better things that provide more versatility. Also, it’s about only having what you actually use. I have a large nail polish collection, but can honestly say I love and wear every color I own. I only own one foundation because that’s all I wear. I made sure that one foundation was buildable to get more versatility in coverage.
Totally agree with you. I think people assume that minimalism means deprivation; that you're taking away things that give you pleasure, and that couldn't be more wrong! It's not about turning yourself into a monk lol. It's about realizing that if everything is "special"...nothing is special. My home has never been less cluttered, but more warm and joyful. My home was cold before minimalism, not after!
This is because most people are living the minimalistic lifestyle for trends. For RUclips videos. She mentioned how she use to do makeup videos and hauls. That was the trend then. This is the trend now. The ones who truly understand the minimalist lifestyle are the normal folks like us.
Not gonna lie, the first RUclips videos that pop up when I type in “minimalism” I see a bunch of beige colors, people who don’t own beds or chairs, and don’t own shampoo. The more extreme minimalists are the ones that are more seen
Totally agree. I think career minimalists end up being white guys in black v necks who are high on their own supply of packing 2 shirts for a vacation and hugging people about it, but an intentional lifestyle doesn't translate to being an obligatory boring person. I like the idea that minimalism is an appreciation of which material items add value to your life- material appreciation but not materialistic.
Same with me when it comes to fashion. I have a good amount of clothes and shoes. But everything is versatile, and I can mix and match. My husband thinks I own to much but I wear everything I have. Plus now when I shop it’s when I plan for it, not on impulse. I make a list of what I’m looking for and stick to it.
A good video I think would be a one about WHY you think you’ve shifted into a more minimal, intentional lifestyle. I’d love to see this video because what you said in this video could have been me speaking exactly. I started watching you years ago back when you did do hauls and love makeup and it wasn’t you that made me change but I happened to notice that I was starting to change my spending habits and becoming more minimal and intentional in my belongings. I dont know what caused the shift in mindset but it’s happened! Gotta admit tho I’m still a sucker for a sale and have a real online shopping habit I need to get in control. I just placed a Sephora VIB sale order 😆 I don’t wear makeup as much but I DO love trying new skincare. I love the direction your channel is taking and I’d love to see more videos about your current lifestyle ☺️
I love introspection, and I was thinking about this while watching this video and I’ve noticed this almost seems to be a trend among mostly millennials. This might be a stretch but I think perhaps in our day and age, we’ve come to understand the value of our money more (and things are more expensive for us now that they were for our parents when they were our age), basically out of necessity. This obviously isn’t the case for everyone, but maybe it is for the target demographic of these sorts of videos. I also personally think that my shift towards a more minimalist mindset has been, “How can I live on a budget while also maybe making a bit more sustainable purchases?” in terms of plastic, and fewer plastic purchases = more reusable things (it’s still an item to have, like reusable bags like Stasher, but ends up costing less ultimately). I also find myself more overwhelmed mentally when I have a lot of clutter in my spaces; I want the least amount of things around me while still helping me do what I need to do (I like functional items and decor). Those are just my thoughts!!
You are SO lucky and smart to realize what you don’t need at your age! You’ve taken control of your life. I was 58 before learning these things. Love how you help anyone willing to listen.
I’m using up all my BBW candles and shower gels and lotions. Also my Scentsy and Walmart wax melts. Not even tempted to get more. It’s so nice to see the pile get smaller!!
Allison! I have followed you since I was a sophomore in high school (I've been out of college for two years now), and I remember the day and the video that you decided that you were going to become a minimalist, and you went through pretty much every area of your Seattle loft apartment and purged every area down. It inspired me so much when I saw that and I have been pretty minimalist since then! I moved to college and fit everything I owned in two suitcases and a duffle bag. Now that I have a home, I obviously have more furniture stuff, but even to this day I still go through things with the lens that I think you would!
My obsession is wax warmers instead of candles. Change out the wax whenever and store all your seasonal wax to use the next season. Also no flame, no smoke. Love them! There are some AMAZING scents for wax warmers.
I am STILL burning through candles that I hoarded from "back in the day". I realized that while I liked the candles, I'm not really a person who burns candles that often which is why I still have a few under the bathroom sink waiting to be used.
I JUST ran out of them. I am on my last candle..and it’s one that I received for Christmas. But I had a bunch of old school Bath and Body ones that I used this Winter.
I didn't buy new candles each season, but I still stocked up on Candle Day. Came to terms with the fact that I had too many back in 2018, and decided to burn what I had. The current shelter-in-place order allows me to burn them all day, since I'm now working from home. Finally getting to the last few.
I didn't want to ask because I know she named the color before set if anyone remembers it, that will save me scrolling through past videos. I just love the color and wonder what color the ceiling is painted, did she just paint the one wall that color? Anyone ?
i went to waldorf schools growing up and really the only candles i have ever known are the 100% beeswax candles, we would do a candle making circle every year and it was always really fun and they smell great, are good for the environment and definitely don’t contain harmful chemicals, you don’t have to make your own of course but there’s plenty of places to buy them, locally and online (local supports bee keepers which is really important)
Literally been here since Revlon lip butter days, and had about the same curve. Hardly wear any makeup anymore, I do still wear nail polish, but I buy like one or two a year, as opposed to like 50... xD Now I splurge on yarn, mugs and coffee.. ok, and Mr. Puffs. lol (Food in general, but OMG, FIRST place I go after quarantine, I'm obsessed!) It's great to declutter, but I also try not to declutter too much either. Keep it contained, but also don't just throw away everything that doesn't "spark joy" on the moment.. Without being a hoarder, I'm crafty, and I love a good comeback story, giving an item second life by being clever is my superpower.. xD Like I LOVE me some seasonal decor, but I keep it versatile. I'll find a seasonal cushion, but the back is white! Boom, works year round! Instead of buying a ceramic pumpkin at Homegoods, now I'd rather buy raw wood pumpkins and stain or repaint them, instead of a sign that has some quirky joke about pumpkin spice lattes, I got a felt letter board, so I can switch it up! (Right now it says "My birthstone is a coffee bean", and I put a succulent and a mason jar full of coffee beans next to it as "decor" xD) And then it's not just something I put on a shelf and don't enjoy, it becomes part of the evolving environment of my home! I enjoy it more if I made it, as opposed to just bought it, and the joy lasts longer! You appreciate the things around you more.
@@amandabiernetzky1712 But how TERRIBLE were they actually?! xD I mean NONE of the colors were flattering on me! But I HAD to collect them all, like they were pokemon or something.. lol I do still love my MAC Gingerly blush tho, STILL my go-to when I wear makeup, and Essie's Bahama Mama is still a bomb color! lol
Kate, I've been on a very similar journey the last three years... but yarn and my craft stash is my weakness! Lately, I've been unravelling sweaters that I made ~ten years ago and reusing the yarn for other projects. Since I invested in high quality yarns when I first made the sweaters, the material is still in really good shape. I've been enjoying giving new life to these items :)
I definitely remember the Market Peach obsession! I also remember wanting an acrylic shelf full of nail polish like yours even though I HATED wearing nail polish. I wanted to be like you so badly. I've loved watching you and your videos grow through those phases and into what you are now. Now I want to be like you NOW.
I think I first heard the term “fantasy self” from you and it just made everything click for me. I wish I had learned this earlier and saved myself a ton of money but my life has followed a similar path as yours and it’s been great. Happy for you!
As an aspiring minimalist who's planning to get married next year, I would LOVE to see a video of how you did your wedding makeup! The idea of wearing a more natural look without foundation and still look as gorgeous as you did on your day is just so inspiring!
This was so refreshing to watch! I just turned 30 and I’ve definitely paired down my spending in most of these areas. I would love to see the skincare and makeup products that you do use because you always look so naturally beautiful!
I love that you started renting clothes for special occasions!! Such an amazing idea, I have lots of friends' weddings on the horizon and I'm definitely looking into this. so much more sustainable and affordable xx
I've been embracing minimalism and found that I love to shop but when I get the item I never use it and the thrill of that particular item is gone. I still have bottles of body mist/lotion from VS semi-annual sales. Bath and body works candles, trendy cult makeup, even school supplies that I am still working my way through years later. I've have a personal 'pan list' to remind myself of which products I'm focusing on using so I can eliminate the clutter!
I remember following you years ago and watching all your hauls and makeup videos. And then for a while (more like a long while) I kinda stopped. About a year ago I found you again and BOOM your channel had/has become exactly what I need! I love that you make travel and photography videos instead of beauty videos and hauls. And honestly I feel like you're so much more yourself this way! I love this version of you! xx
Would love a video on your current, minimal skin care and makeup routine! Maybe diving into how you streamlined your look, how you decided what to keep and get rid of.
I greatly shifted the clothes I bought when I started practicing minimalism. I now stick to neutral colors and basically wear the same thing every day! I save time and money with the reduced coginitive load.
Yes!! I basically wear the same thing every day too and I love that I no longer have the "I have nothing to wear" dilemma with a wardrobe full of clothes. It's so much easier.
I can relate with ALL of this. I think a lot of this has to do with getting older and appreciating non-material things. Love the video and the wall color :)
My favorite “souvenirs” are a deck of cards and a postcard! I love having the postcard, and play lots of cards so it’s fun to sort through the pile and remember all the fun places I’ve been!
This was such a great video! I’ll been moving out into my own place within the next year or two and definitely feel like I’d like a more minimal vibe in my space. This gave me some good pointers on things I should hold back on purchasing ☺️
I feel this in my soul! Decor whether year round or seasonal feels like such a waste of money and space to me! Especially the storage of seasonal stuff. Less is more. I buy and re buy the things I truly love and use. If I want to try something new, I wait until I finish what I have and when trying something new I look for a smaller or trial size to figure out if I like it.
Love the self-reflection in this - as someone who has been watching RUclips throughout all of this, I can so relate!!!! Wonder if you could do the minimalist stuff I buy now? Or maybe a items that you love and is happy you spent money on?
Amen to the uncomfortable shoes! It got to a point where I could never even enjoy what I was doing due to my feet being in so much pain. So when I’d look back on those times, my foot pain is all I would remember! That’s when I knew they needed TO GO! Inspiring video! :)
I just came across your videos today for solo trip planning, and have been on autoplay of your videos. Just wanted to say, I can see how you matured and so did your content. LOVED IT!
I remember the market peach! girl, i've been a long time subscriber and stopped watching you the past few years. feels like I just had coffee with an old friend
I've been subscribed to you since your makeup hauls and tutorial days. I feel like I have grown and changed so much just like you. I love this new minimalist and all natural vibe you are putting out. There are actual nontoxic candles, soy candles or coconut based candles with essential oils are things you should look for when buying candles.
I am so glad I stumbled on this video. So many of the things that you are no longer buying, I have also stopped buying. I love the idea of renting a photographer and actually saving vacation memories in that way. I am currently working on streamlining my wardrobe and the idea renting a wardrobe for certain occasions is a wonderful idea. I have business clothes that I will never wear, because I now wear scrubs for work. My current plan is to take them to a consignment shop. I came up with a solution to remember some important memorabilia, without storing it. I am taking pictures of and making an album. It's amazing how much fuller your life is when you simplify it.
I really can’t believe how parallel our changes in lifestyle are 😂 I’ve been watching you for YEARS and years and ive been phasing our candles, nail polish, body wash/shaving gel, skincare products etc, for years. I love that
For traveling what I've started doing is buying one ornament and one magnet. You can find them anywhere, small, inexpensive, and it's really fun to be able to pull out the ornaments once a year and remember the trip/ decorate your tree with personal touches vs generic ornaments. I actually don't know if I'll keep doing the magnets but I love the tradition of the ornaments.
you were one of the first youtubers i watched & kept up with when i was younger, and i was just like you with the nail polish rack and alllll the shopping sprees. now, i am so pared down from that version it's overwhelming to think about! i loved looking back on old times with this vid and see how you and i have both changed!!
I love how you’ve evolved with your channel. I can relate to living a more minimalistic lifestyle now in my 30s and enjoying getting rid of the clutter. Would you consider doing a video sharing some of your simple staple wardrobe pieces?
I haven’t seen one of your videos in years. I cannot BELIEVE how much you’ve changed, and I’m so proud of you!! So glad you’re on the minimal trend. I hope other beauty influencers follow!
I used to be subscribed to you back in the nail polish makeup days! As my lifestyle changed I completely abandoned my old subscriptions and started anew. But I am soo glad I rediscovered you! I love the direction your channel has taken!
It’s like she’s narrating my life in this video🤣🤣 and all this while I thought i have a simple boring life and seeing all these videos started to pop up makes me feel appreciated my mindset😊
Travel tip! I love going to local thrift stores when I travel. You can usually find like local cute vintage things there! I went to Nebraska 2 years ago and got a vintage college crewneck for like $15 where brand new it was like $50! I love it and still wear it all the time!
@@MNeathway The soy industry is closely linked to to deforestation. And Most soybeans are grown from genetically modified seeds. Soy candles may seem like a healthy alternative to paraffin candles. But they’re no match for beeswax once you compare how each is sourced and made.
Hi Allison, I’ve been watching your videos for years. I really love how much you have matured. Just like you, I had that “nail polish stage” too and had about 100 nail polishes but now I don’t paint even my nails anymore. Also, as I grow older, I’ve become more a minimalist. Every time before I get something, I ask myself if it’s something I need or something I want. I actually feel great about not owning excessive things.
Your videos are my absolute favorite! Your style is just awesome. Can you do a video on your kitchen essentials/favorites since you only seem to use what’s absolutely necessary? Thanks Allison!
Wow, I love this so much! I’m 27, and I’m not sure when I started becoming a minimalist, if that’s what you would call it. Over the past 4 years+ I haven’t bought much of anything unless I am absolutely sure I will use it and will keep it forever. I don’t buy makeup, clothing, candles, decor, purses, anything you can think of. I probably overthink every purchase I make which drives me insane, but I just don’t want to be wasteful and I don’t like having a lot of stuff in my house.
Wow I can relate to this so much! This is the first video of yours I have ever seen. I used to be such a hoarder of make up, perfume, nail polish etc. Now I wear extremely minimal make up and never ever paint my nails! Its so interesting, I wonder whether this is related to age or whether we have consciously tried to be less wasteful? I couldn’t relate more honestly! I was totally caught up in the youtube trends of bath bombs/candles/lipsticks/make up brushes (so many!!) etc, around like 2007-2012 especially... For reference I am 27, so at my peak shopaholic phase I was about 16-21. I wonder if thats similar to you. I really enjoyed this xx
I love this video! I've followed your channel for YEARRRS now and I remember when you used to do hauls but i feel like I've grown up with you and this kind of video definitely feels mature and it's so helpful to reexamine things I buy that I really don't need.
"I read somewhere, and I don't know what I'm talking about..." - me, when I try to tell my husband something that concerns me. I would think Mrs. Meyers would be ok candles to burn, but I also don't know what I'm talking about.
blank Unfortunately Mrs. Meyers is not as great as they market themselves. According to EWG.org (environmental work group) they are not considered good. You can check out every product and you’ll find their score and a breakdown of each ingredient.
This is the best list with non judgmental reasons I have ever watched. There are items in your list that made sense. I have been looking at my house feeling so overwhelmed at having to put away or clean during this quarantine. I give up!
I used to watch all of your videos back in the day and to this say I follow your channel, I've also stopped caring so much about wanting makeup and your new content feels so close to what I like today :)!
I love this! I was so into all the makeup videos (including yours of course) and I had to stop watching most beauty videos because they made me feel like I had to buy EVERYTHING. I love seeing how your preferences have changed and taking a realistic look at what you will actually use
Omg Allison, I remember your old vids from about 10yrs ago! It’s so refreshing to see you change and grow and be yourself! I don’t wear foundation any more either (I’m almost 40...!) and I can’t tell you how many candles you inspired me to buy back in the day! 🤣
Just discovered your channel. Love it. But really commenting because I DIG that minimal background design you've got going on. The deep green paint, the wooden table with organic edges, the plant, even the slightly textured gray long sleeve and minimal font. A+.
Oh market peach!! I remember those days! 2 things I don’t personally agree with is decor and books. I think decor can really brighten a room and makes the space more homey. I also LOVE my library full of physical books. I do tend to get them from used bookstores and sell back books I didn’t like.
Speaking of blank walls - the colour of that one behind you is beautiful! I must admit I am a sucker for seasonal ornaments, especially as gifts, and I do like my makeup. However, I wouldn’t say that I go overboard. As for the shoes, I found after I turned 28 that comfort was more important. With the books, I mostly read books on my iPad but if I really love something I read I will buy a physical copy of it too.
I really, strongly resonated with this video. As I've gotten older, and because I've learned more about what *I* want, focused less on what's trendy, or what other people are doing, I have been able to ask myself what I want, what I need, and slowly getting rid of all the STUFF I've accumulated over the years for no reason. I'm FAR from perfect or knowledgeable in everything I want to move towards, but I'm learning a day at a time, and my Life has really improved. Thank you so much for sharing this. It helps to connect with others who are on a similar path.
I used to do the same thing with candles! I recently learned to make homemade soy candles - it’s surprisingly easy! They only have 2 ingredients: soy wax and essential oils. They make great gifts and for the ones I keep, I can reuse the jars once I’ve burned a candle down.
Omg I love this! I remember when you burnt your wall 😂 I was obsessed with all the beauty gurus and now I don’t wear nail polish or make up either! And I no longer have stock pile of candles
Yessssss all of this! I use dr. bronners liquid soap and have recently made the change to use it as body wash, shaving cream, hand soap, and all purpose cleaner. I love it!
Really great tips. So happy for you that you've discovered a better way of caring for your skin at such a young age....you will thank yourself on down the road. Foundation blocks your pores and is not healthy for your skin. Of course, the cosmetic companies will never clue the public in on this. Nail polish also causes your nails not to be able to breathe. The natural look is so much more becoming anyway. Artificially fragranced products? The reason not to use them is in their description. Thank you for your posting. From an older fan who's somewhere in the middle of a forest outside of Olympia, WA.
I’ve been subscribed to you forever and to be honest, I haven’t watched one of your videos in years. I outgrew the beauty guru videos but still say subscribed my favorites but skim past the videos on my feed. Obviously through this video I realize your content has changed and have watched quite a few of your recent videos and am so excited to watch more! I still love makeup but cringe at the amount of money and time I used to spend on makeup and makeup videos. Love your new content! And so glad you didn’t stop youtube when you outgrew the makeup phase.

I like the idea that minimalism is an appreciation of which material items add value to your life- material appreciation
but not materialistic.
Share your skincare products!!
That was going to be my question/comment too.😊
My Grandaddy used to always say, “you’ll go broke buying bargains.”
Facts tho lol
Meghan Borrasca Same!
Agreed!
Love this idea! I have been seeing the same shift in myself and try to focus on the why.
“CANDLES”
*Instantly transported back to April 1, 2013 watching Amarixe’s newest What’s in My Purse video*
One of my favorite videos I've ever done! So happy someone remembers!
Kate M I was thinking that too!!
YESSSSSS!!!!
@@allisonanderson The tutorial was my favourite.. AS MUCH MASCARA as you can get :D
This was also the thing I IMMEDIATELY thought of!
Thanks for watching for so long! It makes me so happy to know I inspired someone else's simple living journey 😄
My obsession is wax warmers instead of candles. Change out the wax whenever and store all your seasonal wax to use the next season. Also no flame, no smoke. Love them! There are some AMAZING scents for wax warmers.
Omg I used to be such a candle hoarder! I haven’t bought them in two years - still using candles from Black Friday 2017 😳
Emily Quinn my wife is a candle hoarder 😂😂
The colour of the wall in the background is so dope such a good studio look 😀😀
I didn't want to ask because I know she named the color before set if anyone remembers it, that will save me scrolling through past videos. I just love the color and wonder what color the ceiling is painted, did she just paint the one wall that color? Anyone ?
I’d love to read your simple makeup or skincare routine!
See*
i went to waldorf schools growing up and really the only candles i have ever known are the 100% beeswax candles, we would do a candle making circle every year and it was always really fun and they smell great, are good for the environment and definitely don’t contain harmful chemicals, you don’t have to make your own of course but there’s plenty of places to buy them, locally and online (local supports bee keepers which is really important)
Literally been here since Revlon lip butter days, and had about the same curve. Hardly wear any makeup anymore, I do still wear nail polish, but I buy like one or two a year, as opposed to like 50... xD Now I splurge on yarn, mugs and coffee.. ok, and Mr. Puffs. lol (Food in general, but OMG, FIRST place I go after quarantine, I'm obsessed!)
It's great to declutter, but I also try not to declutter too much either.
Kate Malone those lip butters were my jam! I had almost all of those!!! 🤦🏼♀️
@@amandabiernetzky1712 But how TERRIBLE were they actually?! xD I mean NONE of the colors were flattering on me! But I HAD to collect them all, like they were pokemon or something.. lol I do still love my MAC Gingerly blush tho, STILL my go-to when I wear makeup, and Essie's Bahama Mama is still a bomb color! lol
Do they still make those lip butters?! I remember when all the YTers bought them so I had to buy them 😂 I liked the peach one!
Gingerly is still the best. I liked the pink truffle lip butter LMFAO.
When you said “Market Peach,” I felt a sense of nostalgia that I forgot was there, lol!
Same!!!! Lol
I think I first heard the term “fantasy self” from you and it just made everything click for me. I wish I had learned this earlier and saved myself a ton of money but my life has followed a similar path as yours and it’s been great. Happy for you!
i gasped when you said you no longer buy candles. bravo sister, you've come a long way.
I really like the person you have become, I follow you since 2010 and I always like your personality and now I like even more
agree!!!
I love this version of you! xx
Charlotte Corvaglia agreed!
I love how excited you are at how much you’ve changed and I like how you aren’t deleting your old videos but referencing them too! Love this!!
Would love a video on your current, minimal skin care and makeup routine! Maybe diving into how you streamlined your look, how you decided what to keep and get rid of.
hahah that is too funny "what are you out here to get today??? i dont know!!" definitely been there! great video!
The color of your background is so lovely and soothing! 😍
I was going to comment the same thing. It's so my style!
Valérie Goulet Talbot isn’t it!!
I was thinking the same thing...I want to paint my powder room this color.
Dawn Johnson ouuhh love this color for powder rooms!! 😍
I can identify with the “sale” shopping. I have sooo many items that I do not wear or use because of this.
Especially when you find things that aren't even your size but think, 'It will inspire me and it will fit.' Yeah, nah. :)
Rachel Jaffray me too
Ok now I’m dying to see your apartment!! It must be so minimalist and perfect 😍
Curious what your makeup routine is that you’re much more of a minimalist. :)
I’m slowly switching to this lifestyle! Just seems so much better for my mental health and wallet 🥰
Where are you filming?! I must know the name of that wall color - gorgeous!
Megan Johnson her studio looks so good 😀
Agree. It’s a beautiful shade of green
Same!! That green is so beautiful!! Please share Allison!
I'm painting my bedroom a similar color and need to know too!
Megan Johnson YES!!!
I agree with almost everything. We’ve just been having too many possessions with time, I think we are fed up.
you were one of the first youtubers i watched & kept up with when i was younger, and i was just like you with the nail polish rack and alllll the shopping sprees. now, i am so pared down from that version it's overwhelming to think about! i loved looking back on old times with this vid and see how you and i have both changed!!
I’ve also stopped buying a lot of things mentioned, I used to own about 10 mascaras at once, now I have 1, same with a lot of things x
I love how you’ve evolved with your channel. I can relate to living a more minimalistic lifestyle now in my 30s and enjoying getting rid of the clutter. Would you consider doing a video sharing some of your simple staple wardrobe pieces?
This came at the right time for me. I needed to hear this. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching!
I haven’t seen one of your videos in years. I cannot BELIEVE how much you’ve changed, and I’m so proud of you!! So glad you’re on the minimal trend. I hope other beauty influencers follow!
I remember when you and Ingrid would do hauls together !! Gosh that was forever ago !!
If you want a non toxic candle make sure to get a 100% soy wax candle, otherwise most candles are literally burning petrol
btw small youtube here
Sophi G Beeswax is ok isn’t it?
lead-free wicks , specifically cotton-wicks , that’s crucial .
Noir Alibi Nice, thanks!
Sophi G 100% false
I remember the old videos. I’ve been around for a while. 😂
I honestly burn seasonal candles all year round.
me too. i just finished a christmas candle. love it!!
Your videos are my absolute favorite! Your style is just awesome. Can you do a video on your kitchen essentials/favorites since you only seem to use what’s absolutely necessary? Thanks Allison!
I look for soy candles because I heard a similar thing years ago but I’m not sure if this is one hundred percent correct!
Would love to know your streamlined skincare routine!
This was the coolest thing to watch! So happy for you that you were able to make so many healthy lifestyle changes! I'm very inspired :)
I give up!
- sales
- decor
- makeup
- candles
- speciality outfits
- handbags
- uncomfortable shoes (heels)
- physical books
- souvenirs
I used to watch all of your videos back in the day and to this say I follow your channel, I've also stopped caring so much about wanting makeup and your new content feels so close to what I like today :)!
I was waiting for candles to be on the list lol but I’m so with you on this, i don’t purchase much of anything anymore lol such a good video!
I love this! I was so into all the makeup videos (including yours of course) and I had to stop watching most beauty videos because they made me feel like I had to buy EVERYTHING. I love seeing how your preferences have changed and taking a realistic look at what you will actually use
I’m also into minimizing my lifestyle. Also, your wall color is stunning!
Omg Allison, I remember your old vids from about 10yrs ago! It’s so refreshing to see you change and grow and be yourself! I don’t wear foundation any more either (I’m almost 40...!) and I can’t tell you how many candles you inspired me to buy back in the day! 🤣
Soy wax that are ONLY scented with essential oils, not “fragrance” or “fragrance oils”
And ideally an organic cotton wick.
@@RachelDee Organic isn't better! Organic is actually less sustainable than conventional, and no better for us.
Any specific brands you like?
Soy is terrible for you
Just discovered your channel. Love it. But really commenting because I DIG that minimal background design you've got going on. The deep green paint, the wooden table with organic edges, the plant, even the slightly textured gray long sleeve and minimal font. A+.
This was like listening to myself, I can relate to so many things on your list!
Oh market peach!! I remember those days! 2 things I don’t personally agree with is decor and books. I think decor can really brighten a room and makes the space more homey. I also LOVE my library full of physical books. I do tend to get them from used bookstores and sell back books I didn’t like.
Haha Allison when you said candles, I said aloud, "Market Peach!"
Buy soy candles with a lead free wick :) Candlove is a good one.
I truly loved how you have evolved and how much you’ve literally grown with your subscribers. You’re a beautiful soul
When we crave material objects, the underline need is for connection with Mother Earth 🌏..
I like to buy candy/snacks when I'm traveling! it's interesting to try different things and won't take up any permanent space in your house
And I no longer have stock pile of candles
tlavelle I remember that too!
Yessssss all of this! I use dr. bronners liquid soap and have recently made the change to use it as body wash, shaving cream, hand soap, and all purpose cleaner. I love it!
I wish I could go without foundation! Your skin is beautiful.
I relate so much 😂 the only thing I can’t seem to give up is my candle...but I only buy one at a time and finish it before purchasing another one ☝️
