    Maybe this movie was the director’s reality, but I think it’s sending a really bad message. “Change who you are for a guy”, but the way my (muslim) parents raised me, told me a guy will fall for my character, personality, humor, modesty, (my SOUL) before expecting anything sexual from me (my BODY). And I think that is a better message to be sending, rather than reinforcing a cheap stereotype.

      It's crazy how they only decide to choose and filter out bad experiences without even at least mentioning that these are cultural influences. You don't see Malaysian, Russian, Chinese or other Muslims from non-middle eastern backgrounds being represented either because it doesn't help spread their oppressive narrative.

    I've met so many Muslims here over the years and became friends with quite a few but I'm still waiting to meet the oppressed Muslim woman. Apparently they're everywhere as they are all oppressed. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place but I don't see them.

    • @Weallgonnad_ie
      @Weallgonnad_ie 3 года назад +30

      @Aurelia Baciu that's the influence of culture.. cuz if u go seeing around u will notice that there's not one way to be a Muslim.. middle eastern culture sometimes overpowers the teachings of Islam.. as well as many other countries which its ppl believe in the sayings of culture before the sayings of Islam sadly.. and then u see how ppl get rebellious and just want to escape... it's so sad.. I'm a middle eastern and i know what u r talking about.. i met a lot of them here too.. but every single case was a culture problem.. something like heritage that older ppl like to stick to with glue.. it's sad to see how they even don't care about rational concepts, religion aside, these ppl r so close minded it's actually suffocating.. then they come and say it is in the name of Islam smdh

    • @mariag5306
      @mariag5306 3 года назад +9

      @Aurelia Baciu sadly women are diminished in many religions and in general with everything. Look at what they did to the woman's monthly cycle. Society turned it into a curse. Imagine the ability to create life has been made taboo. That is the fault of the patriarchy.

    First of all, I would like to thank the "Muslim" team for creating this channel and other platforms. Sometimes many people think of us as "you are not free". But we are free, we chose this belief with our freedom and will. Islam is such a thing. We decided to live like this. We are happy with some rules and we do them because we want them. The most important and difficult thing in this life is to be tolerant. I believe that if we are tolerant we will make this world the best place. Until that day, let's do our best for goodness. Love u ❤️

    I'm a revert Muslim ☪️ I proudly wear my hijab for the sake of Allah Subhanahu wa'talla. It makes me feel safe and sweet, bashful even. Yes, I am the first in my entire family to convert.
    My tender seven year young daughter wears her hijab sometimes to school as well as to the Masjid of course. I slowly introduce her to her hijab then bought her more beautiful styles and colors to correlate with her outfits. 💕
    There are times when I tell her to wear her hijab & then there have been many days when she has asked me if she can wear her hijab even to bed a few times, because she too feels safe when wearing it as well as to please Allah swt.
    To be a hijabi is freedom on so many levels in my experience these past 2.5 yrs as a Muslim woman.
    When you're forced to be or do something you naturally resist even if it's good for your life. Why? Because Allah Subhanahu wa'talla has given everyone of us the free will to choose life or death for ourselves.
    Being Muslim is Pro Life.
    I was simply existing before now I choose to thrive by hook or crook for the sake of Allah ta'alla.
    When we think of the ahkira the suffering is worth it. One day we all will leave this earth. That's a promise. We never know when & that's a fact.
    The Dunya is so deceiving an illusion. "Don't play small. We are all created to make manifest the glory of God"
    Never give up hope. Remember hope is the essence of the unseen. Seek Allah's counsel and nearness. Ask for right guidance, and the patience and wisdom and knowledge to get you closer to true love.
    That inner peace.
    You are resilient. Own it.
    Assalaamu Alaikym warahmatullahi wabarakatuh young sisters.

    I am a new revert, and am so interested in the lovely lady to the left's hijab/doek combo.
    Can anyone tell me what that's called?
    I am white and am not sure if wearing the doek would be culturally insensitive. I wear one for bed, as it works magic for my hair. But going out in public might bring the wrong idea across.
    Appreciate any and all info
    Alhamdulilah❤️

    • @ayahlin
      @ayahlin 3 года назад +3

      I’m not sure it is a doek. I think it’s just a regular smaller silk scarf with a pattern but I could be wrong. At first I thought it was a durag lol but it’s not. Wearing a doek might be culturally insensitive (I’m not South African tho) but if most people are like me they wouldn’t tell the difference between it and a scarf from Macy’s lol.
      You could easily replicate it without using a doek.
      Welcome to Islam 🥰

    Why do they often portray hijabis in drab clothing? Child, we hijabis love colours, okay? And preach on modest clothing being expensive! That hijab? Has to be easy to shape and cooling. That shirt? Needs to be long enough especially the sleeves, if not you have to invest in handsocks. Those socks? They need to be long enough and opaque. Being a hijabi is not easy, but we do it for the sake of our God. No one else.

    I couldn't watch the video till the end because, I think, I am just so tired from my personal life to explain people that I am not oppressed, that I enjoy my life, that I am happy. Because I don't wear hijab and because I'm European , which means middle blond hair and pale skin, people can't associate me with Islam even when I say that I'm practicing my religion or that I didn't convert but was born (here I'd like to say huge respect to all converts because when I look at you, you motivate me to be better. Thank you!) . You know, I understand them, but I am also a bit tired. But girls, it's great what you're doing. I subscribe just to support you and your work. It's great that you show us muslims just as we are, normal human beings. Hugs and kisses to you both.
    PS: If someone decides to leave a comment with criticizing me not wearing hijab (who knows, right?!) then my answer is (1) I don't get notifications about comments and don't read them and (2) thank you and have a great life. May Allah (subhana wa taala) help all of us to become better and make HIM alone be satisfied with us, our improvements as muslims and citizens of the world. Aameen.

    OMG, you should get them to react to the Korean drama K2 Ep 3 (26:00- 29:31)!! it can be found with eng sub on YT, it's such a bad representation, FYI it does show 2 ppl getting a little intimate, but the "kumar" refugee girl is basically a UAE/ Arab character who is played by a white, non-arab blue-eyed girl with light and very non textured hair. Pretty disturbing, not the first time I've seen this from Korean/ east Asian media though, but I think it should be known.

    i actually liked hala and totally understood her. I was mad at the trailer until i watched the movie and i am sick and tired of the narrative of hijabi girls are the only muslim girls who are valid.

      I hate the misrepresentation of Muslim men as well where we seen as the villain in the oppressor of Muslim women why can't we be shown as good guys as well

    Damn, I just found the Western Muslim community. It’s so refreshing and it reminds me so much about how to be a better Muslim because as of now, there are a lot of deterioration in the Muslim morality in my country without the general public even realising. Wish I could go there and actually live there to understand and feel what’s it like being a Muslim where you’re not the majority because when you are the majority, you determine what’s right and wrong including Islam related matters and it’s a little bit heartbreaking

      I felt that. I’m an African American first generation Muslim and I decided to learn Arabic in my senior year in high school so I could read the Quran without translation. I thought learning Arabic from Muslim native speakers would be .. idk the best way to learn Arabic.
      That’s a misconception. It’s not.
      If I could advise anyone I’d say never try to learn a culture or a language at the same time as Islam because the lines will blur!
