Dr. VanWingen, you're one of the helpers Mr. Rogers said to look for. Thank you for taking the time to help others and for being a calm and comforting presence in the middle of the chaos.
First I watched the March 24, 2020 video by Dr. VanWingen. Then this revised one. Both were worth watching. He offers special encouragement and comforting words in each one in additional to the safety tips and demonstrations. Watch both. They are worth it and so is Dr. Jeffery. Many thanks to all the uplifting comments I've read with both his videos. What a great audience I was able to join ! Blessings to all and especially Dr. VanWingen.
I agree; I've watched both and both have been helpful. I have been practicing my "surgical sterile area" on my deep freezer in the garage after groceries have been delivered. Thank you, Doctor!
arttrans in the March 24 video he told us to wash veggies and fruits with SOAP. Please, don’t ever do that. The chemicals in soap can permeates the food and make you sick
The ability to care about others in a time of crisis. The ability to care about our daily life in a time of crisis. The ability to soothe everyone with hope in a time of crisis. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
This made me feel a lot less neurotic about my grocery shopping and handling habits. My roommate thinks it's ridiculous that I've been sanitizing everything that comes through our door.
Here's the thing to everyone saying all these measures are being paranoid. We aren't even fully sure how it spreads. The numbers easily double with time. Taking these precautions hurts nobody. But being less careful could.
Please remind people to wash their eye glasses with soap and water when they arrive at home. When we wash our hands we can run our glasses under the running water with a little soap as well. Don’t scrub the glasses but gently wash and rinse off. Mild soap and water will not ruin glasses. Just an extra easy step that can be taken. Stay safe everyone.
darkwriterxx94 yes, it’s easy to overlook as I found myself reaching to adjust my glasses when my mask moved them out of focus while I was out shopping.
Technically and specifically, people should take showers when they get back home. Spray the bottoms of their shoes, and wipe stuff as they go. People don't take showers, but I do spray my shoes, wipe my hands continuously, and spray my bags before I bring them in. Once you unwrap those packages of chicken it should be immediately covered and put in your refrigerator. My routine is down now, but i am much more rigorous than he is.
I do appreciate the "good" doctor for his efforts of public service making these videos. He corrected his own cross contamination mistake in a past video and updates the latest information. This young doctor is a man that cares and I imagine his patients reflect that sentiment. Typically, this kind of teaching/training is left to nurses. Dr Jeff has shattered that hierarchy by recognizing that doctors and nurses as peers and everybody can teach, even universal precautions in our time of need. Not that you need an endorsement from the likes of me, but "hats-off!"
I'm watching CNN, Dr Gupta just Mentioned you in his Grocery example on how to clean groceries and take out the way you did for us in one of you're previous video's. Yay! 😁
I already started doing this, though I was not really sure about wiping the thicker bags. I work in a lab and touch at least 200 covid 19 specimens a day. I wash my hands 3 times before I eat at break! All of these are fantastic tips. I don’t go to the store unless desperate. I hadn’t been since early February. I was out of everything. I got as creative as I could until I could no more. I made a plan so as not to linger. May as well consider it a mine field. People don’t care. They’re casually looking for items they want and don’t really need with kids in tow, running around touching everything. I tell folks “ask yourself how bad you need to go out or to the store”. You put yourself at risk every time you do. Is it worth it? When I’m going to pick something up from the store or pharmacy, I have a little bucket with a 10% bleach solution and a towelette in it that I use to wipe things down when I come home. When I’m done, I give the frequently used items a once over, like sunglasses, readers, keys, credit card, phone, remotes, etc. Being in healthcare since I was twenty, I never wear shoes in the house and always wash my hands upon entering. I like to remove all of the harmful things I encountered while out of the house. Thankfully, I cannot touch my face at work so, I’m not in that habit. I’ve always been aware of my mucous membranes being the way for germs to enter. This makes me look for a dentist office with the strictest cleaning practices, I feel so vulnerable there. I left the majority of my grocery items in the spare bedroom for a couple of days. Be sure to have large zip lock bags and containers to repackage items. I even save a few bread bags now and then, they came in handy. I hope folks continue to do some of these things even if the threat is lessened or removed one day. I’ve always wished folks would wash their hands more. People tend to look funny at me when I break out sanitizing hand wipes at a restaurant. Does it bother anyone else when they place the filthy menu on the plate? Have you seen this? It’s rare for me to eat out, I don’t know the hygiene practices are being followed. I like preparing my own, it’s safer. It’s clear I think about germs a lot. That’s what happens when you work somewhere where everything is contaminated. Lol.
@@Felineblood Plus, this is not a time to separate and discriminate, the whole world is effected, politics need to be set aside, we will have plenty of discussion on the aftermath after this is all over. For now, stay safe and support each other.
I'm all guilty, I can't do it. I can't just _not touching my face_ After washing my hands, I keep a little bottle of rubbing alcohol with me and rub my hands some times.
For some reason, I've reached an age where little old ladies in grocery stores ask me questions and lately I've been getting coronavirus questions and what to do about groceries when you get home - they're scared and info has been conflicting. NOW I KNOW WHAT TO TELL THEM! Thank you!
Thank you so much Doc for taking the time to educate the public. I was a healthcare provider for almost 45 years and began my medical career as a medical Laboratory Technologist. I have tendency to always look outside the box because I know what exists out there which is invisible to the eye, yet can make us seriously Ill and in some cases cause death. I’ve been doing this for the past month and have even extended the practice to include my mail. I’ve gone one step further and have an area setup in my garage to separate and wipe down groceries. Those items that do not require refrigeration I put in a bin which remains in the garage. Produce I bring in and wash. My friends think Im nuts and it’s overkill. My response to that is, we all need to assume every person we come in contact with is potentially positive for Covid 19 and every item brought into our homes could potentially be contaminated with this Virus. I’m so thankful for all those who have remained on the frontline risking not only their health but the health of their own families to provide for the rest of us. Let’s all do our part and stay home in order in insure these brave, selfless individuals can continue to provide services to all of us.
i want to thank you for getting it through my head that i need to wipe down my groceries and start taking this very, very seriously overall. i watched that video on your channel and thought "this is ridiculous." then i thought some more. and then more. and i realized your thinking was ahead of mine. i have been wiping everything down and using your glitter analogy to think about my hands, products, and surfaces, and i've been sharing your advice with my family members, many who are very high risk if they catch this. thank you.
If he helps just one person, like you, understand the importance of the current situation and what the best practices are then I'm sure that he'll have felt that he did his job.👍
Thank you so much in helping my family, friends, and neighbors know what we need to do to protect ourselves as much as possible especially since I personally am at a very high risk for poor outcome if I got sick. Since my family lives in an apartment we cannot leave food outside our door. So we set up an assembly line. Huband brings bags to the door and I wear gloves and mask and sanitize each item and then hand off to my oldest to take inside and put away. I then have my husband immediately throw all containers and bags in the dumpster so there is little to no breach in our place as much as possible. People look at me like I am crazy especially when I am disinfecting the bottoms of everyones shoes but I just cant take the risk. So thank you again for getting this knowledge out to everyone possible.
Thank you for sharing your technique! I decided to clean all of my groceries and transfer all of my items into clean bags after cleaning them off, outside of my car, in the grocery parking lot. I threw everything away in the trash and at the grocery store. Before getting into my bar I threw away my gloves, sanitized my hands and my door handle, and then my steering wheel/inside of my car. I was comfortable bringing everything into my home knowing I cleaned everything before even getting it into my car. I appreciate this advice from you!
My adult daughter sent me your first video on this technique and my husband and I used it today after picking up pre-ordered groceries. We did not have to go into the store. We followed your instructions exactly. Thank you for the clear examples of how to stay safe. We feel more confident that we are doing what we can to keep us from getting the virus. We have only left the house to get groceries, which are brought to us in the parking lot and loaded in the trunk. We began isolation two weeks before it was ordered, except for picking up the food. We have been too wary to get any take-out food so far.
perhaps you already have it, but.. can you make a video on actually getting back from the grocery store and coming into your house?... do we have to sanitize shoes and have a "clean" change of clothes available at the entrance?.... what about sitting on a taxi cab or uber and then gatting back inside with the groceries. .. thank you., and thanks for sharing the info.
How are shoes a concern? I don't understand what's going on. I read the CDC guidelines every day and have seen many articles that say this kind of disinfecting is not necessary.
@@jgbgw591 if you have preexisting condition you might take extra measures since you are doing health measures to manage those conditions. Covid19 undoes all that good work (taking meds, testing blood, doing blood pressure checks, exercising, eating right, etc.).
Thank you for a great video Jeff! I have actually done this for years. With taking care of my Father I always lysol wipe my packages before putting them away. The only thing i would recommend (and I'm no expert either) would be to put the freshly washed fruit into a bowl after washing versus putting it in the sink where the washing it getting done, and changing the cleaning cloth a bit more to a new one, that's just me though! I have my own cleaning OCD's, LOLOL. Thank you again for brining awareness to the issue!
Thank you so much for this video! One other suggestion I have, I consider my car as a safe place. I constantly sanitize using wipes and also aerosol disinfectant spray. I’m usually the only passenger in the car. In my trunk I have grocery bags and a basket to place my groceries. At the store I shop wearing gloves and leave the items in the cart. Before I load my groceries I sanitize with wipes. I made peroxide and dish soap solution wipes since it is difficult to find store bought wipes. Items I can’t sanitize like fruits and veggies I load into bags to deal with when I get home. Another solution is to have a bucket with water and peroxide solution for fruit and veggie wash. I also found a basket with holes at the dollar store that I can load fruit/veggie that can act as a strainer when I’m ready to unload out of the car. I plan ahead so it doesn’t consume so much if my time. I’ve purchased non perishable foods to last more than a month so I can limit my time at the grocery store to just the amount of produce or other perishables I need for the week or two weeks. I hope you find this helpful.
If "trump" was a clever way to allude to _a particular_ celebrity 😝 I wholeheartedly agree. 👍 If you're trying to say follow the _experts,_ I wholeheartedly agree. 👍 And this doctor seems to be a genuinely nice person, I agree. 👍 But your implication that no celebrity is a truly good, nice person isn't fair. 👎❌

Doctor Jeff, my husband & I watched your videos back in April, and rewatch them occasionally even now in December. Your advice helped us make sense of the barrage of good and bad advice then, and still helps us keep (some) sanity. Thank you so very much. I hope you are safely getting through this horrible time for doctors, and that you and yours are well. When life eases up, please make another video and let us know about your experiences and/or anything else you'd like. Please know that you are loved from afar.
Thank you for doing this PSA video for those in your own country as well as those of us who are watching it from outside your borders. It is so important to remember that we can still bring the virus into our homes even after we've done everything we're supposed to in terms of social distancing while we were grocery shopping. Knowledge reduces fear so the more we know how to what to do to reduce the threat the less panic we will feel as we wait out the virus.
I sanitize my counter before I leave the house. I scatter a bunch of bowls and pans all over it where I can easily pour things. I plug one side of the sink after washing it out. While shopping I wipe down the buggy and just shop. I have to pick up several items to read the labels if they are out of my regular due to food allergies. After I have paid out I stop by the bathroom and wash my hands. I use a papertowel on the buggy and put my groceries in the back. I hand sanitize my hands before I enter and spray the handle of my lift. When I come home shoes come off just inside the door, we live in am apartment and my shoes I left outside went missing. My jacket and hoody and mask are left in a pile at the door. I dump all the groceries on the floor and throw away the sacks. I then wash my hands thoroughly in the sink not plugged. I then seperate the cans from the rest and wipe them down with a papertowel and spray I had laid out and set in my laundry room to wait a couple days. From there everything gets dumped from bread to chips to cereal. If it has an inner bag I keep the inner bag. On produce it goes in the sink that's plugged. Everything gets thrown in a trash bag. After I'm done the trash bag goes outside by the front door. I then take all my clothes and take them with the pile by the front door and throw in the washer and again wash my hands. I spray the floor with bleach. After I go shower completely. Coming back into my kitchen I wipe up the bleach. I start a sink of dawn and water and let everything soak. I take the tongs and scissors and thoroughly wash them. I had also used the tongs to get the eggs out of the carton into a bowl so I can throw the carton away. I put everything away at this time even the cold that I left out. I wash all the dishes. I use ziploc bags to portion out meats and Tupperware or mason jars for anything else. I then wipe off the entire counter again. I wash off the produce and then vinegar wash them then lay them on a dish towel to dry. I mop the floor again and spray sanitizer on my shoes put them in the shoe closet and wash my hands. I then start the washer. I quickly sanitize my keys and put on a new mask, jacket, and beanie. I spray the door handles and floor by the front door. I get a different pair of shoes and leave. I get in my vehicle and everything gets sprayed. Gear shift, door handles, steering wheel. I also get in the back and spray my rubber mat that the groceries laid on. I go back inside slip off my shoes and wash my hands. I leave again and pick up my kids from my babysitter who hasn't left her house in almost 4 weeks. I then pick up my 3 year old and 2 month old. My 3 year old has a mask as well and my 2 month old stays in the car seat outside with a blanket over the seat until we get in the car. Coming home it's straight to the shower period. All 3 of us get a shower or bath for the littlest period. Hubby when he gets off work comes in slips off his shoes. He washes his hands and heads for the shower. In the bathroom is a trash bag for his clothes. He puts his clothes in there and I dump them in the washer immediately. I spray his shoes and put them away. There is a mat by the front door a couple feet from it. We do not pass that mat coming in so that area is deemed dirty. We do not cross that mat until time to put shoes on and leave. The bathroom gets sanitized every night when everyone is home and the one who does it showers again. I'm immune compromised and I'm the only one that can shop due to being the fastest and the one who can make the best choice if the store is out of our regular item due to food allergies. That and hubby works to early in the morning and can't go when everything hasn't been cleared out. It's a bunch to do but we have been doing this since before it was a thing. I figured when I got sick to research all the ways to keep a house clean so I keep from getting ill again. Our 3 year old has learned that it's normal but at the babysitter shoes are ok usually there until recently. I've been paranoid since seeing people cough in flu season and seeing them touch produce or seeing blood on a thing of meat that you would normally just lay on your counter. I think I've been doing this at least 4 almost 5 years now. I first got sick when I married and have been ever since. The mask isn't new either other than now my toddler wears one too.
What a wonderful public service to all of us trying to keep safe at home. Thank you, Dr. Van Wingen, for your thorough, updated videos. Bless you for your work.
@@matthewphenix7952 Mine is just simple black with red ribbon ties and still looks pretty badass, if I may say so myself. I complimented about five people on their masks (from 6 feet away, of course) when I went on my last grocery foraging expedition. Let's make these masks a fashion statement. Don't let this chaotic time keep us from expressing ourselves and appreciating eachother. Ps, a fabric plague doctor one would probably be easier to put in the laundry and keep sterile, so there's my two cents.
Ratha An, me too but it should be said that this is not a matter of popular opinion. We must listen to the experts, which I try to do _always,_ no matter the topic. Humanity would be a lot better off if more people followed expertise rather than hearsay. And yes, I realize the experts don't always agree, and the consensus can change, as it did in this case.

Your videos have been very good, thank you! Because I am shopping for 3 separate vulnerable households and needed to save a little time, I have been using 2 carts. I shop for one person’s stuff. At the self checkout (which I wipe down) I scan, pay, and put in a separate cart. When I get to the car, I sanitize my hands, wipe each item, and put it into the person’s reusable bags. The produce is each in their own baggie, which I wipe. Then I go back into the store and shop for each person separately like this until I’m done. When I get to each person’s house, I sanitize my hands again and leave the bags in front of their door. It’s time consuming, but If I do the steps like that, then my arthritic 91 yr old grandmother doesn’t have to do everything you’re doing. She just deals with the produce on her own.
Thank you, thank you. This was incredibly helpful. You have an amazing heart to create these videos in addition to serving your patients. May God bless you and all of those who are serving on the front lines with strength and encouragement.
My husband and I are very thankful for your tips. We both have Asthma and are trying our best not catch this virus. We have utilized our drawers under our bench with a tarp over it as a "makeshift" outdoor pantry. After four days on outdoor quarantine, the food is brought in and sanitized before entering our cupboards. I believe your videos are saving a lot of people's lives and slowing the spread.
Thank you, Dr. VanWingen, for your methodical approach and sharing your knowledge. As the parent of a medically fragile child & a non responder myself, these tips are literally life saving. Many thanks for your insight and compassion.
@@sarajohnson2928 you'll be experiencing a lot more fear when 1/5 of your family goes because you weren't cautious. This isn't fear, this is caution. Do you put your seat belt on out of fear? Do you want to know the worst part about COVID-19? You die alone. There's your fear. Wash your stuff, don't go out more than you must, cover your face, this will blow over if everyone works together.
@Legend B - He's a doctor, not video talent. His message is clear. However, in his first video he put produce in soapy water. I've been told not to wash produce with soap, not even apples, tomatoes, pears, etc. It's never been said why. I use soap anyway, especially apples that have that waxy substance on them that can trap organisms. And for freshness I wash only right before eating fruits. That will have to change now during this pandemic. Washing should mean with soap; rinsing should mean no soap, but it's used commercially interchangeably which is confusing.
Dear Doctor, Your videos have been extremely valuable to my family. We’ve been sharing them w our family and friends. Please keep posting. You have a calming voice that exudes peace in these difficult times. Blessings to you, your parents and your hospital colleagues.
I liked hearing the psychiatrist say that this evening on CNN. I'm more "social" now than ever before...seeing neighbors walking across the street, talking across parking lots when infrequently out, chatting even with grade school friends on Facebook. It's amazing! But this always seems to be the case in a crisis.
Here in Canada the government has officially started referring to it a physical distancing rather than social distancing. It's more clear and understandable that way.
A very special THANK YOU TO Dr.VanWingen. Your advice has saved my life and sanity. I shop for a family of four. I decided to cover the floor with a flannel backed plastic table cloth with the printed side facing up and the flannel on my white marble style tiles. I gloved up put all my groceries including fruits and vegetables with thick outer skins on this clean surface. I then proceeded to spray everything with 70% rubbing alcohol. First I began sneezing, coughing and my eyes and nose were running. Had to take a benedryl and quickly get out doors to breathe. Over an hour later the real fun started. The dye from the table cloth had been dissolved by the alcohol. The dye on the food containers, especially all of the plastic wraps was also dripping everywhere. I spent hours wiping down what food was salvageable and then had to scrub my floor. Bottom line it was a disaster. As I was cleaning up the mess I was singing to myself an old Rolling Stones song, "NINETEENTH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN" LOL. I have since perfected my technique. Sending PRAYERS with LOVE for everyone's HEALTH & PEACE of MIND from. NYC ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Thank you again for this life saving content.....yes, it is that valuable. A few things I would add. Using Lysol: -I'm using it as you do, BUT....take breaks. This is necessary if you get a LOT of groceries(5bags worth). I found that it's pretty harsh over a period of time, and the vapors really start getting to me. It's best to clean with windows open if possible. It recommends little or no skin contact. Gloves are recommended. I'm using regular dish gloves. Rags: I heard that you should get a fresh towel after a few items, instead of using the same one for everything. Would like to get confirmation on this. Wiping items after sanitizing: The Lysol bottles state you are to wipe off the surfaces you cleaned after for a period of up to 2min. I haven't done this after two deliveries. Does everyone wipe off after cleaning?? Vegetable washing: I saw a video with someone saying NOT to wash with soap, as some veggies are porous and can absorb. Instead they use a mixture of baking soda and water to wash off veggies.

Thank you for the information and technics. I am 65 years old and started shopping for this the end of January and have a pretty good supply already. However I need to make one more order from my grocery store. They have delivery and curbside pickup. I will be picking up my order at the curb and plan to leave much of the order in my trunk. Thanks to your videos I know how to deal with the perishables safely. I hope you are doing well, you seemed a bit short of breath.
As much as all of this disinfecting groceries really stresses me out, I love how this guy emphasizes just "doing the best that you can." I really need to hear that as I have to bring new groceries into my home.
This stuff isn't necessary. Just follow the same food safety procedures you'd should follow normaly: wash your hands after putting away your groceries, wash your produce before you eat it, and wash your hands before you eat. Don't stress yourself out. Google "disinfect groceries" for more info.
I did my best to follow your advice and examples today when I picked up groceries and brought them home. Many things I would not have thought of myself, were in your videos. Thank you.
Wipe down if you have to drive daily. Otherwise you can leave it outside for the virus to die, just like he said to leave non-fridge non-freezer food outside of home for 3 days. Edit: I amend this in support of what @E. Michael Tanner said also.
@@e.m.tanner179 At this pt. in time, I'll take car damage vs. virus. Perhaps, alcohol 1st, then immediately soap and water. I'm trying to make the point that when you go out shopping there's a whole series of things you touch. People wipe grocery cart handles but don't wipe their hands. Pre-Covid--when was the last time you wiped your car door handles inside and out, steering wheel, shift, etc? Certainly not, every trip. I usually if I know my hands are dirty or it starts to feel sticky or after a car mechanic works on the car. But in this case, you have to be extra vigilant.

Dr. VanWingen, i just stumbled across your channel. I wish i had found it weeks ago. It takes one cough or sneeze. You don’t know if Danny from Instacart coughed in his hand before placing the item in your bag. In my household Packages and mail sit outside side for 24 hours then we wipe down. And put away. Grapes , we have always rinsed with water and vinegar. Every minor precaution helps stop this even if you THINK its overboard or unnecessary.
I have watched each video you have made since the beginning of covid-19. I am so grateful for you. I am high risk and shipping was one thing giving me more anxiety. Following your tips has reduced that because I know that I am doing all I can to prevent. Thank you so much for taking time when you must be exhausted. You are amazing!
I’ve been filling one side of my sink with a recommended one part bleach to fifty parts water and the other side with clean water. Everything that’s sealed or fairly non porous goes for a swim in the bleach water and then transferred to the clean water rinse. After the clean water rinse it’s set out on a towel to dry. This helps make sterilizing larger amounts of items much quicker.
This is quite interesting actually. This is somewhat similar to how the three-part dishwashing system works in restaurants. Soap/water rinse/sanitizer solution diluted with water. (God knows what the "sanitizer" actually was) but we would just let the dishes air dry after soaking in the solution for 5 minutes.
@@srosiee Most restaurants have dishwashers that uses very high temperature cycles. I have a sanitize option on my dishwasher. Its basically an extra rinse with hot water.
@@maureenmoran8998 Hi, A virus isnt a living thing. And cant last outside the body for more than a few minutes. It doesnt reproduce like a bacteria. So would be gone by the time you got home. A virus would need to be injected from one person to another, its not spread the way we're being told...if you're old enough to remember the AIDS fear in the 80s, we thought we could 'catch' it easily, we were then told we couldnt actually catch it off someone just by being around them. A transference of blood was necessary. The uk govt downgraded covid 19 on march 19th but didnt announce it. Its now a non urgent, non emergency...not a pandemic! ..But the fear is still being pushed? Thank you for creating such informative and rational videos with such a calm demeanor. As a lifelong germ-conscious person, I’ve had difficulty determining whether I'm sensible or overly anal about sanitation. In the past few weeks, I wondered whether my 2+ hour ritual of cleaning and re-packing groceries for my family of 5 was reasonable, or a manifestation of my compulsions. Hearing you so calmly detail your process has been so beneficial and reassuring to me! These post-shopping experiences have made me very on edge, and thanks to your content, I will clean my new purchases with a better mindset.

Just want to say thank you for these guidelines! I've been following these tips for groceries for the past few weeks and they have helped me feel so much better and less anxious about bringing my food in. I can't do everything perfectly but the process of cleaning everything has been so helpful
Wear short sleeves or roll up your sleeves, I see contaminated stuff touching them, which your hands will later encounter. It is easier to sanitize bare arms. I noticed how often I touch my arms after pulling stuff out of bags. We are all human 😁
Good point, I usually change my shirt when I'm done or I wear a jacket and then take it off, between carrying the bags and reaching to grab things (doesn't help that I'm short) my shirt/jacket gets a lot of contact with the groceries.
I also think he should wash his hand before, and during while cleaning off the products. He said he didn’t wash his hands before, but then he was already touching what he just sanitized
I think everyone should wear masks and gloves to protect yourself and your family when out in public. Wash and sanitize. Thank you for sharing. I’m a caregiver for my Mom, who is 90yo. I intend to protect her in anyway I can.
Thank you for ths video. The one thing I would point out is that encouraging people to stock up to reduce trips to the grocery store, is contributing to the extreme product shortages which, in turn, means more trips to the grocery store. Same thing online. Order 10 items and you get 6. More trips for everybody.
THANK YOU! this is by far one of the best, simple, clear and thorough yet reassuring videos on how to deal with new habits we need to acquire. Sending you and your family much love from Italy. stay safe everybody, stay home
This guy had me bleaching my bananas until I came to my senses. This 13 min horror short was the 7th most popular RUclips video last week. Not only does he seem to have 20 years experience making poor food choices, he's perpetuating needless terror by telling people to treat their food as if it glows with nuclear contamination. Wash your hands before and after shopping. Keep buying fresh produce. Wash it or soak it with a little soap for 20 seconds. If you still feel weird, dry it in the sunshine.
Thank you, Dr. Van Wingen, for another very informative video and PSA. I especially appreciate your end message about being more loving during this very challenging time. Please, be safe!
Deepest gratitude for all you are doing to help people understand ways to keep themselves safe while continuing to live their lives and bring in the things they need. Your calm, nonjudgemental, simple explanations with your glitter analogy make it easy for everyone to understand. In the midst of the varied emotions that so many are feeling, your kind and gentle nature is a balm for the mind, heart and soul. Be safe and stay well! Take very gentle loving care of yourself! This is so helpful and so sensible. You mentioned very briefly something about cash tips. I have followed your rules to perfection and on Sunday after the delivery guy put the groceries on the porch I stuck my arm through a crack in the door and handed him a tip. We made no contact and there was a door pretty much blocking us. Dr Vanwingen, Thank you! Would you consider doing a video of how to do laundry in a "shared" laundry room. For so many who live in apartments. Thank you so very much.
I’d really appreciate a video specific to healthcare providers coming home after work. My fiancé is a dentist and doing his part in making sure his patients don’t end up in the emergency room due to dental emergencies. We are trying to be as mindful as possible and are taking all the precautions we can think of. It’d be so helpful to have advice and guidelines for our situation. Thank you.
I am a dental assistant and I scrub my hands and arms down before going to the staff room. After I change out of my scrubs and change my shoes I again wash up. Using my paper towel to touch anything to leave the office (door, alarm) Once I’m home I put all my clothes and hair tie into the washer as I take them off and shower immediately. Wiping down any surface I touched coming in. I scrub my face, neck, and arms for 20-30 seconds while in the shower.
Just make sure to sanitize the faucet handle after you’ve handled potentially harmful contaminants. Otherwise after washing your hands and touching it you’ve cross contaminated your hands. Great video and stay safe. Thanks for all you do!
April B. Yes same here, great reminder! I think a lot of people don’t give it a second thought until it’s pointed out to them. It’s the same thing about touching our face. I’ve been watching some interviews (Graham Norton show, hilarious)and began to notice how many times all of these people touched their faces while talking. I’m sure I do that too without even thinking 🥺
For the bag situation I have been keeping my reusable bags in my car. So I go outside to my car and pack up my bags with my groceries so I am not bringing them into the store and putting them in the carts. I have been doing all of this with my groceries or anything that we bring into the house mail , our clothes we strip right out of and shower after being out etc. Thank you for sharing!

First I watched the March 24, 2020 video by Dr. VanWingen. Then this revised one. Both were worth watching.

I think being roommates with an incautious roommate is a lot riskier than the food risk, you might want to deal with that situation first!

Technically and specifically, people should take showers when they get back home. Spray the bottoms of their shoes, and wipe stuff as they go. Don’t watch that clown news network
@@Felineblood I usually don't, but during this chaotic time i like to compare news coverage with other networks.
Lol.

Important advice - “Do the best you can”
You're a hero of these times, Dr. Jeffrey. Every time you say just do the best you can I get emotional. We're lucky to have you.
Really loving that you keep making these and revising them. Good on you man! Best wishes, stay healthy!
perhaps you already have it, but.. can you make a video on actually getting back from the grocery store and coming into your house?... do we have to sanitize shoes and have a "clean" change of clothes available at the entrance?.... what about sitting on a taxi cab or uber and then gatting back inside with the groceries. .. thank you., and thanks for sharing the info.
Yes I agree😬 Please make a video on re-entering our home and what precautions we need to take. I’m trying but I know I’m missing the obvious!
Leave your shoes outside. Also, leave the bags outside and take the items out of the bags a few at a time.
How are shoes a concern? I don't understand what's going on. I read the CDC guidelines every day and have seen many articles that say this kind of disinfecting is not necessary.
Lindsay It’s a good precautionary measure- you could step in something contaminated with any germ and bring into the home.
Awkward? How so? He's perfectly lovely!

Wow! You diligence personified! 👏👏👏Stay 'safe' and be well❣Blessings from Ontario🍁~⚘🌹🌹🌹

Amazing doctor. So caring about people and health.

Do you want to know the worst part about COVID-19? You die alone. There's your fear. Wash your stuff, don't go out more than you must, cover your face, this will blow over if everyone works together.
Let me guess: Bernie supporter? 🤔
Physical distancing, not social distancing because for mental health we have to be “social” (just not in person).
That is good term. Wonder why they didnt use that.
CDC has totally botched the communications on this thing from day 1. Morons
Here in Canada the government has officially started referring to it a physical distancing rather than social distancing.
It's more clear and understandable that way.
@@nikig1605 yeah they chanced the terminology here in California too, but it's too late
Using Lysol:
-I'm using it as you do, BUT....take breaks. This is necessary if you get a LOT of groceries(5bags worth). I found that it's pretty harsh over a period of time, and the vapors really start getting to me. It's best to clean with windows open if possible. It recommends little or no skin contact. Gloves are recommended. I'm using regular dish gloves.
Rags:
I heard that you should get a fresh towel after a few items, instead of using the same one for everything. Would like to get confirmation on this.
Wiping items after sanitizing:
The Lysol bottles state you are to wipe off the surfaces you cleaned after for a period of up to 2min. I haven't done this after two deliveries. Does everyone wipe off after cleaning??
Vegetable washing:
I saw a video with someone saying NOT to wash with soap, as some veggies are porous and can absorb. Instead they use a mixture of baking soda and water to wash off veggies.
Hi Jeffrey!😃👋
I know your gettings TONS of comments but i personally just wanted to say THANK YOU (too.)
I wish i could express how thankful i am for these videos and your knowledge and time. I'm gonna give this whole thing my best bet and having someone like you that i run to for peace of mind and genuine education on the matter really shifts my whole world around. My attitude can become so sour when im scared or unaware of "how." Anyway, i know this is random but i feel it in my heart! "I LOVE YA!" Truly. i can tell how awesome you are and i HOPE you know how much we all really REALLLLLY appreciate all this. Appreciate YOU! So once again but a million times more, THANK YOU!!!💛🙏
I find these videos invaluable. Thanks for doing this for everyone!
Thank you, Doctor. As a nurse, I certainly appreciate your educating the community
I hope it was just where his mic was situated!
I too thank him for his Technics. And his Vestax, and his Numark, and Pioneer, and Audio Technica, and even his Stanton.
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to do this for all of us!
I did my best to follow your advice and examples today when I picked up groceries and brought them home. Many things I would not have thought of myself, were in your videos. Thank you.
WIPE YOUR DAMN CAR DOOR HANDLES--INSIDE AND OUT! STEERING WHEEL, GEARSHIFT, LEVERS, SWITCHES!
Wipe down if you have to drive daily. Otherwise you can leave it outside for the virus to die, just like he said to leave non-fridge non-freezer food outside of home for 3 days. Edit: I amend this in support of what @E. Michael Tanner said also.
I agree. But be aware that bleach and rubbing alcohol can harm certain paint surfaces and leather. Better to use good ol' soap and water.
Why you yelling?
@@mangot589 You made me laugh. Because A lot of people where I am aren't listening.

Our government And health care professionals are doing a great job here in Canada and i have been following the guidelines. You have provided so many extra helpful tips and I appreciate your straightforward language and appreciate you taking the time to film edit and upload these videos.
Thank you and well wishes from Canada!
Vinegar does nothing to this virus
K F I've been adding dish detergent to my vinegar water because vinegar does not kill Covid-19.
jan alcazar thanks for the info. Just placed an order for grapes. I’ll wash them that way this time. Stay healthy!
K F You're welcome! Likewise, stay safe and healthy!
John Smalldridge I’m doing this as well; I’m a little concerned about the safety of this.
theres GOTTA be another way...🤔
This is quite interesting actually.
God bless .scroll down to 'status of covid 19'

These post-shopping experiences have made me very on edge, and thanks to your content, I will clean my new purchases with a better mindset.
all good advice Dr Van Wingen, stay well and thanks for helping others with this informative video about how to minimise pathogens on surfaces, we appreciate your efforts!
I'd like to thank you for revising your video presentation based on additional knowledge. God bless you and your family!! Thank you so much for your help and support!! Have a great day! You are in my thoughts and prayers!!! And everyone else is too
Just want to say thank you for these guidelines!

Yes, and the soap nozzle. I always keep my foam soap on the side of my sink and then use my forearm to dispense.
Can we use UV lights to expose these products and produce instead of using the disinfection chemicals?
