Great Controversy [What is It and What Should We Do About It?] - Pastor Ted Wilson

  • In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson discusses the eighth fundamental belief of the Seventh-day Adventists-the great controversy.
    Wars and devastation. Sickness, disease, and death. Disasters of various kinds. Where is God in all these? If He is kind, loving, and good, why does He let these happen?
    To answer this, let's go back to the beginning of time.
    Following the creation of the world, "God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day" (Genesis 1:31). Everything was perfect but what happened?
    Let's go back further-back into heaven where the trouble began.
    There were angels in heaven. "Bless the Lord, you, His angels, who excel in strength, who do His Word, heeding the voice of His Word" (Psalm 103:20). Hebrews 1:14 adds, "Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?"
    Unfortunately, there was one angel named Lucifer who thought he knew better than God and determined to no longer follow His Word. He wanted to rise above Him and be his own god.
    Lucifer is described in Ezekiel 28:12-15 as follows: "You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty…You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you."
    Isaiah 14 adds, "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God…I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High'" (verses 12-14).
    Therefore, sin was brought about by Lucifer's pride. "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor" (Ezekiel 28:17).
    With this, Lucifer, then Satan, deceived one-third of the angels, who joined him in rebellion. "And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Revelation 12:7-9).
    Satan brought his deception to earth, particularly in the Garden of Eden. He won by convincing Adam and Eve to take the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, resulting in their disobedience to God, expulsion from the garden, and miserable life.
    Since then, the entire humanity has been in a cosmic battle between good and evil. As our eighth fundamental belief states, "All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe."
    It continues, "This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the global flood, as presented in the historical account of Genesis 1-11. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation."
    Indeed, the great controversy is real. This world and our hearts are the battlefield. Which side are you on? Pastor Wilson would like to invite you to surrender your heart and recommit it to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

    This is an interesting presentation to me as a member of the Baha'i Community. The Adventist theme of The Great Controversy is fascinating. It satisfies those who, like me, see the purpose of religion as that of relieving human suffering. This Adventist teaching suggests that relieving human suffering is possible if we understand its deeper cause. That cause is pride or desire to exalt oneself as symbolized by the image of Lucifer waging war against Christ (the essence of humility). That a struggle exists between the forces of light & of darkness is a great insight. Thanks to the illumination of Ellen White & the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

    Thank you. This is a message of hope for all the believers of the True God who trust in Him to renew their intelligence. The enemies of God are actively working right now, but it doesn't matter because we have already won though Jesus.
    For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
    Romans 6:5
    to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

      Be sure to tell your class mates that SDA'S believe in abortion and actually practice it too . The SDA hospital in Loma Linda CA perform abortions for any reason . What about the commandment thou shall not kill' ? In Jeremiah , God said I knew you when I formed you in the womb . God created those babies and SDA doctors and nurses kill them for money . This is the only religious group that does this . Very strange coming from a people that claim to obey the 10 commandments ! ! Hypocrite's!

    The following excerpts are from a concerned Adventist pastor:
    After mass distribution of The Great Controversy in Canada some years ago, the Church Ministries Director of the Quebec SDA Conference received a call from the police commissioner of Montreal.
    “We have received numerous complaints about a book entitled The Great Controversy that is being placed in letter boxes in a “wealthy section” of the city. After some research we have identified your Church as the publisher and distributor. *A quick perusal has clearly shown that the book is very anti the Catholic Church and thus falls in the category of ‘Hate Literature’ because its content can easily create hatred between communities”* . Then he quoted from an article of law that prohibited such an action and mentioned the heavy fine that went along for distributing material attacking another church.
    Today, any publication that dares to use a similar approach is quickly vilified as hate literature. We condemn similar anti-Catholic language used by white supremacists in their rallies, should we be careful not to be perceived as doing the same?
    [M]any scholars and well-informed church members consider somewhat outmoded some prophetic interpretations and beliefs that are presented in the book. Three cases in point are (1) the signs in the sun, moon, and stars dating back some two hundred years are not considered to be indicative of the nearness of the Parousia; (2) the understanding of the investigative judgment; (3) That it is Satan and not God that pours the seven bowls (Revelation 18) over the wicked. The people who might choose to read the book will probably be the kind of readers that will question some of the theological material and, finding it wanting, reject the book altogether."

    “When the early church became corrupted by departing from the simplicity of the gospel and accepting heathen rites and customs, she lost the Spirit and power of God; and in order to control the consciences of the people, she sought the support of the secular power. The result was the papacy, a church that controlled the power of the state and employed it to further her own ends, especially for the punishment of “heresy.” In order for the United States to form an image of the beast, the religious power must so control the civil government that the authority of the state will also be employed by the church to accomplish her own ends” - Ellen G White (The Great Controversy, p443.2)
    Elder Wilson, just asking the people to read the book “The Great Controversy” is of no use, because hardly any would go and read it. Instead, you could mention such important revelations, just like the passage that I have quoted above as to what role Protestant America would be playing in the final act of the Great Controversy. If you do that more number of people would be intrigued to read the book, “The Great Controversy”
    Additionally, can you please share the link or material where you have given a detailed sermon about the “three angels messages”?

    Can we trust all Bible Versions or is there one Bible that remains undefiled?

    • @stephen6578
      @stephen6578 2 года назад

      Hmmm tough question. The truth is when a language is being translated there are things that will be missing out because languages are created when people express or communicate the same thing which will depend on culture what people havr experienced... So it wouldn't be 100 percent accurate. The original language is what you can say is undefiled really. But at the same time readjng multiple translations can give you an idea which the original language can't unless you learn the original language itself...
      Basically the answer is not always but mostly yes.

    • @AdventistOrgChurch
      @AdventistOrgChurch  2 года назад +2

      Hi, Spunky! Concerning your Bible question, as long as our understanding of the biblical world changes, and as long as the language continues to be dynamic, we cannot expect a final or exclusive translation of the Scriptures. The King James Version is one among many translations of God's Word through which the Lord unfolds His love and purpose for a lost world. The English versions stand alongside hundreds of translations of the Bible into other languages through which God shares His message with humanity. Ultimately, the desire to hear God speak to us is far more important than debates about which particular English version of the Bible we should use.
