  • First of all, a huge thanks to everyone who played and left feedback on the demo! There are already two playthroughs out there, and it means so much to me that QFTGS is already getting this sort of publicity.
What a perfect time of year to get started on the snow world, eh? World 5, Stardust Icecap, is pretty much what it says on the tin: snowy and locked in perpetual midnight, with a bit of a space-y, starry vibe going on. Think Shooting Star Summit from Paper Mario 64, but covered in snow. Later on, this world will get a LOT more interesting (or so I assume), but for now, it's snow and stars. This level is all about invisible platforms: every few seconds, auroras (aurorae?) will light them up. The platforms are always there, even when you can't see them. The inspiration for this gimmick mostly came from Flash-Black Galaxy from SMG2, but also from a specific puzzle in Pokemon Uranium (a rather infamous fangame) where you would press a switch to light up each tile on an invisible path one by one. Originally, I wanted the platforms to light up one block at a time, but this would take hundreds of events, and would be difficult to trigger at a reasonable rate. As it is, I think the gimmick is fine; it does get pretty difficult towards the end, but World 5 onwards is where QFTGS is supposed to start ramping up in difficulty. That doesn't mean, of course, that it's ever meant to get unfairly or frustratingly hard. Just a bit more of a challenge than most games Nintendo puts out. If there are a few too many Mr Blizzards, or the platforms towards the end look a bit too small, do let me know.
