Logitech G910 take apart guide

  • In this video I show you how to take apart the Logitech G910 keyboard. I had previously taken this keyboard apart so I could replace a key switch. Since I could not find a video for that I decided the next time I had to take this keyboard apart to put the key back in I would shoot a tutorial on how to take it apart. How to replace those key switches can be found on my channel.

    This video definitely helped me in disassembling and reassembling my keyboard. I spilled a drink on the keyboard, and a group of keys were not working. I didn't have to replace any key switches though. I just needed to wash it with (dish) soapy water. Then I just went ahead and rinsed it with isopropyl alcohol and another time with distilled water. I got the bulk of the liquid off using compressed air, and then I let it dry overnight outside. I'm happy to say that it works perfectly now.

      how did you do all that , same thing happened to me but i use isopropyl alcohol on the bottom of the panel but some of the keys are still not working. Did you had to remove all of the mechanical keys in order to use water on the board?

      I can also confirm that this video was a keyboard life-saver. I spilled a sticky drink all over my keyboard, but didn't realise the extent of the mayhem until the next morning. After several keys not working and a whole lot of frustration later, I found this video and pulled the keyboard apart. I gently wiped all the sticky bourbon from the circuits with isopropyl alcohol then dried it with my hairdryer, and hey - every key is now working again!

    Just successfully replaced my double-registering keys as a complete soldering noob. Walkthrough is still relevant. Will squeeze more life out of this great keyboard. Thanks!!!
    Only different disassembly step for my keyboard was that the volume control seemed like was soldered on and not a connector piece. Workaround was to unscrew the board connecting the volume control to access circuit.

    Awesome video man. I'm good at figuring stuff out, but I'm thankful you already did it. I just want to add that on the updated models (Spectrum) the volume wheel is not a plug and is soldered into its own little board. For anyone reading this you have to remove the wheel by removing screw on the tiny board attached to it and then gently pry on the right side of the wheel until it pops out and slide out of sensor on small board. You may have to pry gently on the board to get it loose after screw is out. Other than that everything was the same except I didn't have the symbol behind board :( lol

    Like everyone else, thank you so much for helping me with this repair! I'd had this board in the closet for about 18 months because some switches died and (at the time) I just decided to get a new kb.
    well once a few switches on the new kb decided to call it a day, I decided to learn to solder. just completed a 40 switch replacement, and didn't end up with any extra screws after putting things back together ;) found a seller on amazon selling these switches 10/$12.
    So thank you again!

I look at the new things as a learning lesson and a way to make the learning curve less risky on the next new thing. I have a passion for what I do and that keeps me going even if I stumble. I don’t have degrees in this stuff but I do have determination and a lot of personal experience. I'm having problem with that keyboard as well, most of the keys occasionally either double registering or skipping, I can't figure out where is the problem coming from, some says that its due to the latest firmware update, in most cases, the problem fixes itself, yesterday I was facing one, had like 5 restart then the keyboard came back to normal, but I still can't see where is the problem exactly, right now I'm planning into buying another keyboard, thinking about Orion Spectrum this time, which is the same model that only had a face lift.

    • @ConnivingBones

      Three tips that I live by:
      1) Use the right tools! Avoid battery powered solder tools. A proper solder iron is a game changer. And though solder wick will work for this job a solder sucker is best.
      2) Flux, flux, flux!!! Flux core solder isn’t useless but maaaaaan does flux make things easier. Its the key to getting a nice “wetting” effect to get things to flow smooth.
      3). Dont let your flux get nasty. If it gets dark brown its time to clean it up with isopropyl alcohol and reapply fresh flux. If you don’t you are just making things harder on yourself!

      ConnivingBones I have a wired iron, but I think it gets too hot. I’ve tried different tips, I’ve even tried sharpening the tip to a finer point. But I will buy some flux. My dad uses a damp sponge, but I never asked him why, I thought it was to keep the tip clean but it might have been to cool the tip. He worked on avionics.

    Is this methode of take the G910 apart. A good way to look or clean under the Keys itself too? Because my A Key feels kinda hard to press sometimes. As if something is under it.

    • @ConnivingBones
      @ConnivingBones  6 лет назад

      Nilser007 Yes this is a G910 take apart guide. If you think there may be something under a key first try “popping” the key cap off the key switch and seeing if it is debris that has slipped between the keys and got caught under the cap. If so it may be easy to just get it out with a toothpick or small brush.

    • @ConnivingBones
      @ConnivingBones  4 года назад

      Hugo Sanchez No idea. I typically keep a jar of screws from electronics headed for the trash that I have disassembled and harvested such things off of for repurposing. You won’t believe how handy it is to have a jar of various screws. A handy tip is it’s OK to try to put a shorter screw in a hole meant for a longer screw (if it’ll take). It’s not OK to put a longer screw in a short screw hole because it could puncture something very important. It’s a common mistake in the electronics repair field with rookies known as “long screw damage”.

    My keyboard sucks, a lot of keys dont work. But the volume wheel does. Is it possible to remove that and keep it as a stand alone volume wheel?

    • @ConnivingBones

      Sam Luna No. I mean it’s physically possible but it would take an engineering degree to isolate and separate just the volume wheel segment and still have it operate.

      Have you spilled anything on the keyboard? Seems like a grounding issue, possibly from electrolytic damage, causing feedback loop that is emanating from your speakers. I would suggest taking the keyboard apart and checking for corrosion or rust around any of the keys especially the keys that cause the noise. Also check your USB plug from the keyboard for damage and try a different USB port on the computer to make sure the port is not causing the issue.

    • @ConnivingBones
      @ConnivingBones  5 лет назад +2

      Matheus Almeida Taking your keyboard apart may allow you access to what is causing your wheel to stick. So yes, I believe you may be able to solve your problem by taking your keyboard apart. My best advice is to check for spots that are sticky once you take apart your keyboard. Look for a rub/wear marks or sticky material like soda that has spilled in the wheel area.
