Amazing video, thanks so much for putting english subtitles. This is the best megasquirt video Ive seen on youtube. Also great because I plan on using MS on my M50 too!
Why did you not use the siemens DME for the turbo project? These videos are a huge help, i am learning a lot from you. thank you for making these you are helping the community!!!
At the time it really wasn't possible. But still even thought it's possible I would not use ms41 for high power turbo, because findinh proper MAF to support that is really difficult.
Can you make more videos on fine tune etc? I realy learn and enjoy alot see your video. I already have your response on the nikasil block, in my country they change the nikasil to metal sleeves, is what i will be doing on my B28 block
Love your videos series! Thinking about switching to kdfi whenever I have the chance.. Currently running tuned stock ecu but being able to tune yourself sounds really appealing. Current issue is my afrs at idle are stupid rich and I wish I could adjust it to compensate. Car runs amazing with maf unhooked.
I was able to fix it a day or so after that, it ended up being my adaptions needed to be reset! Lol. I did install a new o2 sensor though just in case! Still want to make the switch to kdfi some day though
Great work love the videos keep them coming. greeting from Australia ,also you should do a video on how and what suspension you used to do the five stud conversion ??? Did you use e36 m3 wishbone /control arms and offset castor bushes ??? And what year ??
the only thing holding me back from turbo charging my e28 is lack of ecu knowledge. I can weld but not program lol. my stroked m20 will have to do for now.
Mahtavaa että selität tuota ms:n perus säätöä ! :) Voisit tehdä ihan oman videon siitä, monelle olis varmasti suurta apua siitä. Ite ainakin tulevaisuudessa katon tän videon monta kertaa :D
No jospa tuo jossain välissä selviää mikä on homman nimi.
im working in a similar build m50b28nv with gt3582r and I have a 1.4 kdfi. where did you find info on the tuning? I god my Kdfi with some engine parts so I know very little about it
your videos are a great help because I am doing the exact same thing right now. I am a little confused on where you run the MAP sensor to though, and what sensor it is that you used.
I have an issue on my E36 M52B28. Since I installed the new ECU, my RPM in my cluster is not working anymore. On the Tunerstudio the RPM's show up just fine, but my cluster is not showing. I did the cluster test, and arrows/needles are working. Any idea's?
Hey, I bought a kdfi 1.4 to a m50b25nv, and have problems getting the engine running. Have followed this video to see if I made some mistakes, but it seems correct. Tried to test the coils, and coil nr 1 is giving spark when output B is selected, shuld not coil 1 be A? Mine came out that: Coil 1 and 6=B Coil 2 and 5=C Coil 3 and 4=A Have not touched the wiring. Is this right? Or is my unit made wrong? Btw love your videos! Keep them coming! Best bmw/engine videos on youtube. Best regards from Norway!
So, the ignition map should be reduced by 5 on every single value? Im running a M50B25 with a GT2871. Its a stock engine and i'm running 5~7PSI boost. Engine will rebuild next year with other internals etc.
Really liking your videos, keep them coming please! In the AFR table, since you're using e85, shouldn't it be in the 9's and 8's, or the table in reality is Lamba converted to gasoline AFR?
Yeah it's gasoline AFR. It can be changed to e85 AFR. But I have used to gasoline AFR numbers for so long that it's easier to understand what is going on using that. Yes the number is wrong, but immediately know is the mixture lean or rich if the number is over or under 14.7. I tried used e85 AFR numbers but I always had think what was the stoichiometric AFR and is it now too rich or lean etc.
I have been following the series!!! Great great videos!! I have an E39 M52 VF supercharged but not enough power. I always wanted a turbo set up but no one to tune. How much power/boost is your setup making?
Good Morning from islan of Madeira You talk about the shooting that is not right of the M50 and that uses the same angle as the m52, my question is if you just used the angle, or use the m52 poly?
How do you approach road tuning ...what's the first to tune and what's last when on the road...also thanks for the videos they're so frecking helpful man thabk you
First I start just with setting up everything like injector dead times and so on. Then comes quite tedious idle tuning and only after that I start road tuning the car. At first the ignition timing is quite low and I tune the VE map for desired AFR. Only after the fuel map is good, I will start adding timing. With normal pump gas you need to carefully listen for knock and with e85 it's mostly tuning for best hp, because it doesn't knock. But it can be difficult at road because with power car the speeds where car has 100% traction are quite high. So it basically needs dyno. Lastly I will tune the acceleration enticements, decelration and so on.
Hi pazi, I have a question about the trigger wheel. I have a new controller KDFI m50nv and since I installed it, I have some problems with the settings I think ... The car worked very well before the conversion to megasquirt and the first time the engine was started there was a backfire in the air intake manifold with the following settings: - Spark Mode: Toothed Wheel - Ignition input capture: rising edge - spark output: going high - number of coils: wasted spark - trigger wheel arrangement: single wheel with missing tooth - trigger wheel teeth: 60 - missing teeth: 2 - tooth # 1 angle: 84 So I ended up changing the tooth # 1 angle value to 324 ° and I finally managed to start the engine. But after several other start-up tests, I had several detonations in the intake manifold. A first time when the ignition is switched on, and a second time when starting (which disconnects the idle actuator hose under the intake manifold and creates an air leak and accelerate my engine) So I thought to disable the priming pulse function to avoid injecting gasoline when I put the ignition knowing that MS2 automatically ignites the 6 spark plugs when it turns on (this partly solves the problem of detonations when I put the contact but not during the cranking) I think my problem comes from a leaky injector or an inlet valve that closes badly .. and with the wasted spark that causes a problem. I will make sure to replace the leaky injector and control the compressions of my cylinders, but .... I also noticed that on my recently purchased controller, the camshaft sensor plug seems to be connected to the car's original beam socket (here are the photos from the manual ibb.co/hwfLrU ibb.co/ftzDBU ). In this case is it possible for me to change the ignition mode to coils on plugs (i'm using OEM COP from my engine) and make my ignition is controlled by the trigger wheel and by the camshaft sensor? That way I can say goodbye to wasted spark and backfires in intake manifold ... Thanks to you.
Don't really know. The engine should work normally with the KDFI settings that it comes out of the box. That 324 degrees is correct setting, because the m50nv KDFI uses "wrong" ignition output order. Make sure that your KDFI and the coils get power simultaneously. If not, it can cause the problem. Also make sure that you have skip pulses set to something like 3. You should be able to use the cam input too, but the benefits are very minor from that. Only that you can have double the dwell time compared to the wasted spark setup.
hey pazi i have a AEM guage im trying to configure the readings with the kdfi i have the output going to oxy1 and the ground going to gnd on the ecu but my readings are off i have calibrated in the settings but no change ?
Hey Pasi, sorry to ask here... wasn’t sure how best to contact. I’m Wiring Speeduino into my m50b25 e30... can I connect the coil packs and injectors directly? Or did you wire series resistors in too? From what Iv read, the coil packs are fine for direct to Speeduino and the injectors appear to be High-Z too, so fine for wiring direct. I just don’t want to assume and make expensive mistake. Thanks if you can give any advice. And your videos have been huge inspiration and help with this project, so thank you!
HighZ injectors are fine with speeduino. But if you are using stock m50 coils, you need separate igniters for those when using speeduino. BTW there would have been Plug and Play speeduino for m50 by me, which is much easier than wiring in universal speeduino: speeduino.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2638
Are you using brown e30 temp sensor? Can you please give the 3 calibration points? Resistance vs temp. Also, any idea what your maximum radiator inlet temp gets to? Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you v much.......your video is very informative for me.....but if you can help me with stock ignition map for m50 nv running on pump gas i would be very grateful .I cant find any.. thank you again for great video
Hi Pazi, I have a 1995 325ic that came with M50B25 and I have swapped to M52B28 but I am using the m50 original OBDI wire harness and m50 sensors, should I purchase the M50 ECU or the M52 ECU? thank you!!
Hallo. I have M52B25 Turbo with KDFI v1.4 on ms2, but my RPM tachometer and Water grades on instrument cluster doesnt work.. Can you help me please ? Thank you
Hi! in some newer m52 engines the tach and temp signal don't go to the instrument cluster in the old fashioned analog way but the stock ECU controls them. So that's why those won't work with KDFI. I haven't heard anyone fixing that broblem and I don't have it so I don't know more about it.
Hi pazi, greetings from norway. I have watched all of your videos, and i love them. I have a m52b28 myself that i have just finished turboing. With hx35, 630cc injectors, and 044 Bosch pump. And i am just about to fire it up with the kdfi 1.4 engine management. But i cant figure out how to connect the kdfi with my computer. I am using tunerstudio and i have installed the USB driver that came along with the kdfi CD. But i cannot find/detect the kdfi in tunerstudio? Do you have some advise for me? Thank you
When you plug in the kdfi, you should see new usb-serial com port appear in device manager. Then choose that com port in tuner studio and it should work. If it doesn't the drivers aren't installed properly, or the kdfi is broken.
pazi88 okey, thanks for fast reply. And another thing, is that when i plugged in the kdfi to my m52 and turned on the ignition, the fuelpump just runs and dont stop after some seconds like the ms41 do. Is that standard kdfi, or some settings that needs editing?
Hi! I have one problem with starting the car, M52B28 with vanos, wont run on idle, the idle motor is thrown away! My guess im doing something wrong! Have any advice? Using m50b25 intake manifold!
Pazi, I'm trying to figure out the single vanos control with KDFI 1.4. Im reading loads of mixed up comments, some say you just configure a NOS output switch, while others say you need relays and wiring done in order to make it work. Your brother's car is single vanos isn't it? How did you deal with vanos? Thanks!
Hi! First of all the brown e30 with m52 is mine and this m50 project is my brother's car. But in that my car the m52 KDFI 1.4 unit had the vanos working by default. No need to make any wiring or anything. The vanos solenoid is connected to IAC2 in KDFi unit. You can see this by going to tuner studio and check programmable outputs. it's enabled but there is some totally wrong settings in there. Here is settings from my car and it works perfectly: pazi88.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Projektikuvat/e30+xxx/mylly/vanos.png But that RPM setting is for 9.7mm lift / 240 degree intake cam. For stock cam use 4100 RPM limit. You can check if the vanos is ok, by applying those settings, burn them into controller, power cycle it, turn on ignition (don't start) then go to engine bay and give it some throttle by hand. You should hear faint clicking from vanos solenoid around that 30% throttle. You may need to disconnect the idle valve to be able to hear that. In my car those KDFI default settings burnt my vanos solenoid, so I had to change that. So if you don't hear it clicking, check the solenoid impedance. It should be around 30 ohms,
Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I like the brown one better :D I've got the same cams from m54b30 and m50b25nv right? The ignition timing and other maps you provide, are they for pump gas or e85? Anyway, I bought it as soon as you replied, any idea how long it takes to receive it? Do they send a tracking number or anything with it? Also, why dont you set it to activate from rpm 1000 to 5000? Why >30TPS instead? Just for testing purposes? To find out if it works? Thanks for your help once again and happy boosting :D
+kventis Maps are for e85 but yes I have those cams too. It took about two weeks to come. It depends if they have stock or not. They don't send tracking number automatically, but you can ask it. And yes that is also possible. But the m52 works according to rpm and heavy/light throttle. So that 30% tps is trying to imitate that light/heavy throttle situation. I tested different values, but that about 30% gave smoothest operation. rpm*tps based map would be best but that's only possible in ms3.
Okay got it today and I'm just trying to figure out the wideband wiring, would grounding the GP2 and providing 0-5V input not be enough? Because I still want to keep the wideband gauge in the car that I got. Also I see you're using the JS7, TBL, and IAC2 ports, what for?
+kventis Yes that is enough. 0-5v input to oxy1 if you have standalone wideband unit. Then you have to choose which wideband you have in tuner studio. js7 is for launch control and iac2 for vanos.
Hi pazzi, Im building a turbo m50 with kdfi 1.4 this time , and I dont know what to do with the idle valve hose, that connects factory after the maf sensor to the intake elbow. Do I need to Connect it to the boost pipe , or can it be dangling around connected to nothing in the engine bay? Thanks in advance
@@pazi88 okay thank you, I have connected it . Would you may tell me how I can tune Vanos On and Off points in tunerstudio ? Coudnt find any Vanos related Settings. Is it under boost/advanced ? There you can set some outputs, Iac2 should be for vanos. You can set there some tps and rpm properties for Iac2, do I have to tune vanos with those Settings? Regards
Hello pazi thank you for it is video who helps us enormously in our project is it possible of knowledge which formulates you to use to calculate the time-out(lull) injector in exel? Because I do not arrive there I am on engine stock e85 bmw M52b28 Thank you
I did found the dead times from internet. Those were between 1 volts so 10-12-14-16 volts. So I did put those to ecxel to see the dead time at 13.6 volts and then calculated to average change for 0,2 volts, so I could get what the ms want.s
@pazi88 What happens when I put a MAF sensor in a smaller tube? I've got a E34 540i MAF to put on my E36 and aim for some 300hp. the optimum IC piping size would be 2inch to reduce lag. Only the tube from the MAF is much bigger... Should I Go from 2inch to the original tube size and back to 2 inch? I can't find any information about this topic somewhere..
If you change the sensor to smaller tube, it will be capable of measuring less air. Probaply same amount as stock b20 maf. And you will need to recalculate the maf curve. But as hint, the stock bmw mafs don't work properly on boost side. You need to use the 540i maf before the turbo to make it work properly. And there the big size is more like advantage, than problem.
How many sensors can this ECU take? I want to put oil pressure, oil temp, map(intake air pressure and temp), two m50tu knock sensors (engine will be built M50TU 3.0 stroker, so all sensors associated with it), coolant temp, fuel pressure, and can it support water/meth injection ? Or should I look at a nice ECUMaster solution ?
@@pazi88 ok so i looked the internet, and can't really find a speeduino PNP for m50tu, do i have to diy it or there will be pnp unit in the future? and how much will be the cost approx since standalone is about 1200eur
When you got your kdfi pnp how did you know that your engine harness matched all the pin locations for the sensors? Did the seller provide you with the pinout data to match your harness?
In my case i have m50 running motronic 3.1. Would the KDFI PnP plug into my harness direct fit? Becase i know the most used motronic 3.3.1 and motronic 3.1 use diferent pin numbers for certain sensors.
azaza808 I have no idea. I too have seen different motronic versions but they basically all use same pinout. There is some diffrences but the ones that matter for megasquirt are the same
So i guess i went to k-data site and what i understood is that KDFI for m50 is for early m50s running bosch 3.1, m50tu is for later motronic 3.3.1 and m52 is for ms41 i think. I asked k-data about it but no answer yet :P Keep up the good work pazi, love the videos and jokes :P
Hello Pazi I need some help i have m50b25tu installed decompress plate from k64 to lower compression to 8.5 . Injector 470cc Pump 5 bar 200 l Turbo GT35 GT3582.63 A/R MAC 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid 12V Kdata UAB M50TU Can you assist me with map ,any suggestion Thank you have a nice day
No complains. There has been some quality issues that I know and the support is not the best. But it works and easy to tune, because it's ms2 megasquirt clone.
Hi Pazi, I've two problem with a brand new kdfi. 1# I can't see the yellow operating point on my ve table. It's work on afr table and ignition table but can't see that dot on my vetable (this work on Ve analyze live) 2# My map sensor keep show me 99 kpa under boost. Maybe it's a calibration problem, I don't know.. Thanks for help!
@@pazi88 okay i'll try this asap. Thanks dude And can you help me with the map sensor ? I can see the good map on the car's gauges but not on tunerstudio......
@@pazi88 problem solved I started a new project and the blue point appeared on the VE table. and for the problem of displaying the MAP sensor information, it was a connection problem sorry lol thanks you so much
Hey man, how did you road tuned your ignition table. I am running m52b25 with 98octan gas is it ok to use your map but as you said, i should take 5.0 value off ,also for m52b28 ignition could be diferent? thanks!
Yes you can use it like that and it will be safe. But will not give you all the power that engine can give. When road tuning ignition with pump gas you have to listen for engine knocking. So you will need some knock headphones. Here is for example one that can use the original knock sensors: ruclips.net/video/L57fnOlWdaI/видео.html Also you could just run nylon pressure hose from engine block to hearing protectors to hear engine knock. If you can't or don't know how to do that, you have to get the car tuned by professional in dyno.
o also, i wanted to ask about wide band connection to kdfi. I already have wide band and controller separately, can i just run signal wire to kdfi box for 0-5v pin. And do you know is the kdfi box reading my stock narrow band sensors if they are plugged in stock harness?
rudis1994 Yes just run the 0-5 signal to kdfi and choose from tuner studio which wideband controller you have. It depends on your kdfi version if the narrow band sensors are wired. But those are basically useless if you have wideband.
just got my KdFi for M20 and it already has the wideband connector pinned for the controller, do I just have to splice in a 4.2 connector and jump the gp2 pin?
Yes you can just run the aftermarket wideband output to oxy1 and remember to set what wideband you are using form tunerstudio. And I would recommend to use it like that because the integrated wideband controller is not very good.
pazi88 after reading the specs of the controller it's not very useful, good in a basic send but I'd rather have a more accurate and responsive wideband with better range
On mahdollista joo.
Guys, can someone help me ? I'm having problems trying to "mirror" the rpm signal to the OEM rpm gauge. The RPM signal on MS3 works just fine, but not in the oem RPM gauge. All the instrument of the cluster are working 100% (I did the cluster test). The car is running perfectly, full sequential, smooth cold/hot start and idle. The only problem is that fckn rpm indicator that's not working. Can someone give me an idea about what could be the problem?
+pazi88 thx for the answer. i just installed 3.2.5 and loaded your base setup for m52 and it only runs on 3 cylenders ? do you have Any idea why this is...
What megasquirt you are running? KDFI or some different one? Because the setup file doesn't necessary work with every setup depending on the megasquirt wiring and other things? Also stock engine or something else?
+pazi88 same one as in your video kdfi. it worked when i first plugged it in. then after 1 hour it lost connection and i had to refirmware it. after that i lost ground settings. and I found your video.
+pazi88 same one as in your video kdfi. it worked when i first plugged it in. then after 1 hour it lost connection and i had to refirmware it. after that i lost ground settings. and I found your video.
Set the cam trigger settings for that. But the benefit will be really minor, because you would also need to use jumper wires to set the ignition outputs so that you can have sequential ignition. And then you lose some outputs that are for boost control, tacho etc..
Can you send me a base map for a similar setup please... m50 turbo gonna be running 20psi easy just want to crack the engine and then I'll do logs and adjust accordingly...thx
greetings from algeria you are boss i have m52b28 like you and i want put a turbo and remap it with stock DME by KESS V2 of alientech and ECM TITANIUM do you think is possible? I ask you because I have searched and I found nothing thanks man very impressionnant what do you do greetings greetings from Algeria
That's overpriced shit. Just buy the ms41 flas tool from chipster.no: chipster.no/index.php?_route_=Siemens-MS41-Flash-Tool And you can flash your dme with cheap vag-kkl usb cable. The use romraider with ms41 definitions to tune the ecu. (all free and tested to work): www.romraider.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=42 I will shortly make videos about this.
Thank you for responding quickly. I found KESS V2 not too expensive about 70 euros: http: //www.ebay.fr/itm/KESS-V2-V2-15-FW-V3-099-OBD-Tuning-Kit-Master-Version-J -link-No-Token-Limitation- / 291827674749? Hash = item43f248ee7d: g: nEAAAOSw0RpXlclu What do you think about?
Maybe in some future episode, when I get it working. We updated firmware for the KDFI and the new versio had some strange bug in lanch control/flatshift. We may have to go back to old version to get that working.
I would like it to if you could. Just tooked mine apart. What you think about my recipe? m50b25iv 340000km -holset hx40 -coopering + arp -megasquirt 2 fuel etc i take later thinking about buying H-rods but is it a waste duo i won't change the pistons or any other parts? Do you have and idee what the stock pistons in the IV can handle?
rudis1994 No if you tune it with that setting. But then if you try to use the same VE map with different injectors for example, then you need to re-tune the VE map. And also if you change the number of squirts, then your AFR will change with wrong dead time.
please need you help i m just about to start my project and i have k data ms2v3 m52 pnp but i running m50b29 non vanus m52 hardnes and i had problem with the firmware and now i dont have ready map and i put fan on iac1 instead vanus selenoid and boost selenoid on iac2 , external map 3 bar from k data ,wide b 4.2 bosh , lanch on js7, table switch on TBL I M RUNNING ALL stock sensor from m52 coollant (2 IN 1 ) , HALL crank sensor ,intake t s is from s50 (not connect at the moment ) running m3 I.T.B 850CC INJECTORS will runing on pump gas 99 oct and W.M.I please give me a hand with this set up , i m very new to this shit :D dont want to fuck the engine i build 2 + years Georgi Dimov Dimov facebook profill you will know by the picture
You could try my msq file for m52b28 turbo located in here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B2EFGtMvFkj-TlM1bURSRnFQZlU?pageId=103234228073123757477 Just change the reqfuel to be correct and change the IAC1 and IAC2 to those. Also the map senor setting needs to be changed and reduce the timing map something like 3 degrees. And regarding that m3 ITB, I wouldn't run that on boosted engine. It's really pain in the ass to get that tuned. You need to have combined alpha-n/speed density maps to get that working. That's because with ITB the vacuum area basically doesn't exists. So it will need alpha-n mode to work. But alpha-n doesn't work in boosted engine so you will need speed-density mode when the boost kicks in.
: Hello i ordered this setup for my m50b25 engine! www.k-data.org/kdfi-pnp-bmw-m50.html When ignition is on (not cranking) cylinder 3 and 4, fuel injectors turning on and fluding engine. With oem ecu everything is ok, when ignition is on fuel injectors stay off, so wiring loom is ok. Only problem i can imagine is settings in kdfi ecu or ecu itself. What suggestion you could give me where to find problem
Mjoo pitäs korjata se, kun eiköhän tuo kummiskin käytä puolia pareittain. mut pitäs kyllä samalla selvittää miksi tuo käy väärällä triggerikulmalla, kun se ei käy järkeen.
Is it possible that you can fine map my car on the road via internet using Skype ? Also would give you IP address to my laptop so you can use it life ? That's an idea for you making money all over the world without getting out from your bed :) Only thing I want for this idea is your help building my own 325t
I can do VE table tuning from logs. No need for live tuning. It wouldn't give anything extra for the tuning. For tuning everything else I will need to be sitting at the car.
First of all great job . I have just bought m50b25 now I'm looking for e30 Base . i will probably do all of the jobs myself except tuning it. but maybe by the time I finish my project I'll learn some basics. by the way I'm addicted to your videos good job man . Regards from UK
I had to stop the video right before 16 minutes... you seriously misunderstood what wasted spark does. It's not all cylinders, and 120 degrees wrong will make it NOT run. Wasted spark fires cylinder PAIRS, 1-6, 2-5 and 3-4. Only one out of three pairs....
Yeah I know that the three spark outputs should be connected as pairs if done correctly. But while doing the video I couldn't think any other reason the engine runs with wrong trigger setting. There is no documentation about the KDFI which tell how everything is connected. But when I think that, the other reason would be that they have connected the spark outputs in wrong order and that's why it runs with wrong trigger setting. I will need to do some reverse engineering to see how the coil drivers are wired.
these videos are like gold to me keep it up , Greetings from Romania !
You are the man Pasi! I just used your base map to get my turbo m52 e36 running and its doing great. I owe you lunch if you're ever in Los Angeles
One of the finest videos of dyi tuning I've come across. Absolute respect for you sir
Thanks!
I've been loving this series so far. respect from the UK
Amazing video, thanks so much for putting english subtitles. This is the best megasquirt video Ive seen on youtube. Also great because I plan on using MS on my M50 too!
Been waiting for this, excellent stuff.
Can't wait to turbo my M50 E36 sedan!
Greetings from The Netherlands.
thank you for this fucking awesome uploads they helped me a lot you are the best nobody else would do this hard work of instructables without cash
Greetings from Portugal!! love the videos, one day i'll build my own e30 coupe m50 turbo!! thank you very much!!
Glad that you like these!
Greetings. From Greece i cant thank you enough for this treasure.
Such an informative video. Thanks for all your crazy work!
Finally....
Waited for this moment since, the start of your build. Keep it up !
man the information and explanation you've put into this video helped me understand so much about first start/tuning I can't Thank you enough!
Best tuning vid i have ever seen, nice job doode!
Wow that started so easily. Great video thanks.
Such an informative video! Thank you!

Plug in the MAF and change the lambda to unbroken one.
I was able to fix it a day or so after that, it ended up being my adaptions needed to be reset! Lol. I did install a new o2 sensor though just in case! Still want to make the switch to kdfi some day though

Mahtavaa että selität tuota ms:n perus säätöä ! :) Voisit tehdä ihan oman videon siitä, monelle olis varmasti suurta apua siitä. Ite ainakin tulevaisuudessa katon tän videon monta kertaa :D
No jospa tuo jossain välissä selviää mikä on homman nimi. Kiitos K-datalle, kun niillä ei ole kunnon dokumentaatiota mokomalle purkille :D

Hey guys amazing video! Viewing from Canada. Wondering if you can tell me how to get my “rpm” + “coolant” gauges working on my stock cluster!? Thanks!
your videos are a great help because I am doing the exact same thing right now.
Mine came out that:
Coil 1 and 6=B
Coil 2 and 5=C
Coil 3 and 4=A
Have not touched the wiring.
Is this right? Or is my unit made wrong?
Btw love your videos! Keep them coming! Best bmw/engine videos on youtube.

That is correct, and trigger angle should be 324

Im running a M50B25 with a GT2871. Its a stock engine and i'm running 5~7PSI boost. Engine will rebuild next year with other internals etc.
Is the KDFI a standalone unit, or do I need that and a megasquirt?
It's standalone. The megasquirt is built in the unit.
pazi, im having a ground issue with my kdfi 1.4 pnp, what cables does the M50TU get its ground from?
It's secret right before I get the dyno video done. But it's between 300-400 hp as promised for this turbo. Then my m52 makes lot more ;)
+pazi88 What turbo you recommend for 400hp level? You have inspired me to finally do a turbo setup!!
Good Morning from islan of Madeira
You talk about the shooting that is not right of the M50 and that uses the same angle as the m52, my question is if you just used the angle, or use the m52 poly?
Hallo. I have a question.
Works the KDFI with vanos?? How i Set vanos in Megasquirt ?
I have buyed a KDFI m52 but i DONT Know how i Set vanos ???

How do you approach road tuning
...what's the first to tune and what's last when on the road...also thanks for the videos they're so frecking helpful man thabk you
First I start just with setting up everything like injector dead times and so on.
@@pazi88 okayy thanks.... I'm understanding it's best to limp it to a dyno and tune it after all that
Hi pazi, I have a question about the trigger wheel. I have a new controller KDFI m50nv and since I installed it, I have some problems with the settings I think ... The car worked very well before the conversion to megasquirt and the first time the engine was started there was a backfire in the air intake manifold with the following settings:
- Spark Mode: Toothed Wheel
- Ignition input capture: rising edge
- spark output: going high
- number of coils: wasted spark
- trigger wheel arrangement: single wheel with missing tooth
- trigger wheel teeth: 60
- missing teeth: 2
- tooth # 1 angle: 84
So I ended up changing the tooth # 1 angle value to 324 ° and I finally managed to start the engine. But after several other start-up tests, I had several detonations in the intake manifold. A first time when the ignition is switched on, and a second time when starting (which disconnects the idle actuator hose under the intake manifold and creates an air leak and accelerate my engine)
So I thought to disable the priming pulse function to avoid injecting gasoline when I put the ignition knowing that MS2 automatically ignites the 6 spark plugs when it turns on (this partly solves the problem of detonations when I put the contact but not during the cranking)
I think my problem comes from a leaky injector or an inlet valve that closes badly .. and with the wasted spark that causes a problem.

I haven't heard anyone fixing that broblem and I don't have it so I don't know more about it.
ah ok thank you
Hey Pazi! Can you make an updated version of this for the newer MS3X? Thanks!

If it doesn't the drivers aren't installed properly, or the kdfi is broken.
pazi88 okey, but when you plug in the kdfi, does It have to be connected to 12v? Or just the USB supply?
@@Fh0lix You need 12v to ecu also to connect to it with TS.
pazi88 okey, thanks for fast reply. And another thing, is that when i plugged in the kdfi to my m52 and turned on the ignition, the fuelpump just runs and dont stop after some seconds like the ms41 do. Is that standard kdfi, or some settings that needs editing?

Here is settings from my car and it works perfectly: pazi88.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Projektikuvat/e30+xxx/mylly/vanos.png
But that RPM setting is for 9.7mm lift / 240 degree intake cam.
Then you have to choose which wideband you have in tuner studio. js7 is for launch control and iac2 for vanos.
sorry for maybe a stupid question, did you have any issues regardind kdfi and the setting for m52?thank you so much

Yes you need to connect that to the boost pipe. Otherwise you will have huge boost leak.
@@pazi88 okay thank you, I have connected it . Would you may tell me how I can tune Vanos On and Off points in tunerstudio ? Coudnt find any Vanos related Settings. Is it under boost/advanced ?
@@pazi88 Basicly what you are saying is that i need to run a draw through setup? When I put it in blow through setup it wont work at all?
@@nielshoekstra7009 Yes that is true. The blow-throgh will work, but not nearly as well as the draw-through setup when using BMW OEM maf.
What differs from the Vanos KDFI, can you techinally use Vanos KDFI on a non vanos m50?
Only the wiring for vanos. But the vanos and non-vanos engines may have different pinout for ecu.
Not many. YOu are much better off with speeduino than KDFI
@@pazi88 ok so i looked the internet, and can't really find a speeduino PNP for m50tu, do i have to diy it or there will be pnp unit in the future? and how much will be the cost approx since standalone is about 1200eur
Works with both obd1 and obd2?
When you got your kdfi pnp how did you know that your engine harness matched all the pin locations for the sensors?
Did the seller provide you with the pinout data to match your harness?
KDFI PnP kits are made for specific engine types so the pins are already wired correctly. No need for pinout.
In my case i have m50 running motronic 3.1. Would the KDFI PnP plug into my harness direct fit?
Becase i know the most used motronic 3.3.1 and motronic 3.1 use diferent pin numbers for certain sensors.
which motronic version do you use in your setup?
azaza808 I have no idea.
I asked k-data about it but no answer yet :P

And the N/A pump gas tables I have in that folder are basically just maps made to work with speed density mode.
wow really fast reply.
Thank you i will dig on that.
o also, i wanted to ask about wide band connection to kdfi.
But those are basically useless if you have wideband.
are you running hall or vr sensor? and what urs megasquirt box build for?
Hall and we have is PnP megasquirt for bmw m50 engine (KDFI v.1.4)
just got my KdFi for M20 and it already has the wideband connector pinned for the controller, do I just have to splice in a 4.2 connector and jump the gp2 pin?
yes. And you also need to run wire from oxy out to oxy1.
pazi88 ah I see, possible to also use an aftermarket wideband and just run the output of the after market controller to oxy1?
Yes you can just run the aftermarket wideband output to oxy1 and remember to set what wideband you are using form tunerstudio. And I would recommend to use it like that because the integrated wideband controller is not very good.
pazi88 after reading the specs of the controller it's not very useful, good in a basic send but I'd rather have a more accurate and responsive wideband with better range
Onko tuossa boxissa mahdollista tehdä useampia tehokarttoja ja vaihdella niitä lennossa?
On mahdollista joo.
can i ask what settings do i use in tunerstudio for the standard MAP sensor in the KDFI please?
Previously the map sensor was mpx4250 but I don't know if they still use that.
pazi88 hey thats as good as you can give tbh can i ask what psi/bar the stock one is?

Set the cam trigger settings for that. But the benefit will be really minor, because you would also need to use jumper wires to set the ignition outputs so that you can have sequential ignition. And then you lose some outputs that are for boost control, tacho etc..
pazi88 thanks for the reply man i wont bother with it then lol
Can you send me a base map for a similar setup please... m50 turbo gonna be running 20psi easy just want to crack the engine and then I'll do logs and adjust accordingly...thx
There is link in description to maps I have.
@@pazi88 thanks
do your tune files work with vanos engines?
yes they should. But of course my tunes are just a starting point. Every setup is different so you have to fine tune it in anyway.
Hey! can u make those tunes files like that, so they can be opend in the latest version on tunerstudio ? write now those filse wont open...pls..:D
greetings from algeria you are boss
i have m52b28 like you and i want put a turbo and remap it with stock DME by KESS V2 of alientech and ECM TITANIUM
do you think is possible? I ask you because I have searched and I found nothing
thanks man very impressionnant what do you do greetings greetings from Algeria
Hash = item43f248ee7d: g: nEAAAOSw0RpXlclu
What do you think about?
I have not tested than KESS so I can't say how well it works.
can you run dual vanos m52 with kdfi m52 unit? i couldnt find any information
emil berntsson No. Only on/off single vanos with bit crude way using the programmable outputs. For pwm controlloed dual vanos, you need ms3.
pazi88 okej Thanks can i run a singel vanos head and change engine wire Harness from m52 singel vanos?
emil berntsson No. Single vanos head won't fit. But you can just tune stock ecu for turbo
can you show how to tune launch controll?
Maybe in some future episode, when I get it working. We updated firmware for the KDFI and the new versio had some strange bug in lanch control/flatshift. We may have to go back to old version to get that working.
I would like it to if you could. Just tooked mine apart. What you think about my recipe?
m50b25iv 340000km
-holset hx40
-coopering + arp
-megasquirt 2
fuel etc i take later
thinking about buying H-rods but is it a waste duo i won't change the pistons or any other parts? Do you have and idee what the stock pistons in the IV can handle?
ragge270 if you happen to have a m50nv map please let me know i need one
hey, were did you get your injector specs?
From the internet using google. But the dead time I found for 630cc injectors is probably wrong.
does it change anything if it is wrong?
rudis1994 No if you tune it with that setting. But then if you try to use the same VE map with different injectors for example, then you need to re-tune the VE map. And also if you change the number of squirts, then your AFR will change with wrong dead time.
Ok, thank you!
I have done ewerything in the vide and it dosent start it is misfajering

please need you help i m just about to start my project and i have k data ms2v3 m52 pnp but i running m50b29 non vanus m52 hardnes and i had problem with the firmware and now i dont have ready map
and i put fan on iac1 instead vanus selenoid and boost selenoid on iac2 , external map 3 bar from k data ,wide b 4.2 bosh , lanch on js7, table switch on TBL
I M RUNNING ALL stock sensor from m52
coollant (2 IN 1 ) , HALL crank sensor ,intake t s is from s50 (not connect at the moment ) running m3 I.T.B
850CC INJECTORS
will runing on pump gas 99 oct and W.M.I
please give me a hand with this set up , i m very new to this shit :D dont want to fuck the engine i build 2 + years
Georgi Dimov Dimov facebook profill you will know by the picture

Hello i ordered this setup for my m50b25 engine!
www.k-data.org/kdfi-pnp-bmw-m50.html
When ignition is on (not cranking) cylinder 3 and 4, fuel injectors turning on and fluding engine.
With oem ecu everything is ok, when ignition is on fuel injectors stay off, so wiring loom is ok.
Only problem i can imagine is settings in kdfi ecu or ecu itself.
What suggestion you could give me where to find problem
It's probaply broken. Kontact k-data about it.
endlich gehts weida.....
Is it possible that you can fine map my car on the road via internet using Skype ?
Also would give you IP address to my laptop so you can use it life ?
That's an idea for you making money all over the world without getting out from your bed :)
Only thing I want for this idea is your help building my own 325t
