He learned that day not to mess with Javy's arm. What a joy it was to watch him behind the plate. My favorite player of all time, the reason I fell in love again with the game of baseball.
I met Javier at a record store I used to work at in his native hometown of Ponce and I found that besides being a great athlete he was also a great human being. The store was empty at first so we talk for a couple of minutes but soon ppl started coming in to say hi and he ended up staying for almost an hour treating everybody the way you treat an old friend. Great guy indeed.
It was a awesome play but as I recall Fred McGriff later said that there was no sign that he knew of. He just knew that Javy Lopez was up to something. I always loved Javy. He is still my favorite Braves catcher of all times. But that was a huge play for us.
@@nlcsmvp96 well it worked out anyway. Besides it was Fred that I think said it anyway. But it did look like Javy Lopez and Pena were on the same page. Awesome play and a huge out.
Great throw from Pedro, excellent call and rocket by Lopez , and McGriff being the straight up baller he is, made the play look easy.. Talk about coordination between 3 ballers...
Wow this randomly popped up and I instantly remembered seeing this live. I was like 7 or 8 years old. Will never forget these games. My heart was pounding.
Super classy and super talented .. that whole team was special.. but even amongst them were standouts... Fred said he didn't see a sign that javy shown. But could tell by his whole demeanor he was up to something .

That was brilliant. Javy called for the inside fastball, pumped his fist to emphasize it, and then looked to first base to show Pena why.

The sign was from Javy to the pitcher. Javy and Fred didn't communicate.

Was a sweet play.
What a great memory - maybe my favorite moment of the 95 Series.

I remember the game and play. Saw Javy pump his fist and knew he was going to first. Brilliant play.
