Funny to think at one point I WAS this Christian. I WAS definitely 100% biblically illiterate and Furtick was my "online" pastor. Now I spend 2-3 hours on one verse.

brother, you cannot be serious. 2-3 hours on one verse? That's not even reading the Bible. Its ok if we don't understand something, we are mere human beings. If you don't understand it, ask God for help and just move on. Eventually you will get it bro.

It is shameful that Furtick is discouraging his son from reading the bible, maybe he is afraid that his son would challenge him on scripture. People, please read your bible. I know if you pray and ask the Lord to open his word to you and hide it in your heart, he will answer your prayers, and the word will become new, and you will hunger to read the word of GOD. Thank you, Corey, with one R for sharing the word with us. The Lord has blessed you with a talent for teaching the word and I love the zeal you have for the word of GOD. Please continue to share the word of GOD.

I'm still a new follower in Christ, so this was very helpful. I originally started reading the Bible with intentions of reading it from front to back, but I was told that was not necessary. That was online (by the way) which was a huge mistake and I know that now, this was even before I found a home church. Well the more deeper I've gotten into the Bible, I notice references constantly that refer to the Old Testament, and sometimes I don't understand. I'm going to reevaluate and start from the beginning. Thank you for this Brother, I have much to learn.

It’s thousands of pages and many things covered- so of course it’s daunting for anyone! But that’s because it’s God’s Word and speaks truths about Him and the very life we have been given! It’s a blessing God gave us so much!
I’ve read through several times and I’m constantly having to go back and re examine - and I thank God for that as it keeps me focused and growing in the wisdom knowledge and life it provides!
“Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word from the mouth of the Lord”
And what a blessing there is bread for a lifetime and beyond !
I hope you are encouraged to go through it like you said. It’s incredibly difficult.. at first- but as you (as we all do) continue to go through it no matter how long or how many times, it will continue to cause you to grow in the knowledge of God and begin to make more sense little by little.
And that’s also why it’s great to converse with others and spend time asking and praying about it with the Lord, instead of just relying on ourselves
“In all your ways acknowledge and trust in the Lord; do not lean on your own understanding, but trust in Him- and he shall make your path straight”
Again with love and encouragement I hope that you take the steps to go through the scripture whatever the pace may be and gain the invaluable treasures of going through His Word!
“All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Jesus Christ” and revealed to those who receive his word and trust in Him!
      God bless! 🫡

All false doctrines survive by reading scripture as a bunch of random thoughts slammed together to make a big book.
      It's not....
The Bible is a whole and tells a complete story.
Reading from start to finish isn't necessary but reading with context is the most important.
Water baptism saves, works salvation, calvinism, word of faith movement, prosperity gospel, etc, all operate by the same method.
Every false doctrine requires that the reader jump all around the Bible, finding verses that seem to support their beliefs while simultaneously ignoring the overall context.
For example.... The advocate for water baptism saves will quote Acts 2:38. But when confronted with the whole story in context, they completely ignore anything that is said and jump straight to Mark 16 (or another proof text of choice).
They pluck verses out of the middle of a paragraph from the middle of a chapter from the middle of a book from the middle of the Bible and lobb them like scriptural hand grenades.
When confronted with a verse that completely contradicts their interpretation of their proof text, they again jump to a totally different verse that's not even about the same topic in its context.
This requires that the advocate of the false doctrine absolutely believe that the Bible contradicts itself, though they will never admit it.
If context is added to the proof texts of a false doctrine, the doctrine dies a slow, miserable death.
On the surface, all false doctrines can be "proven biblically" as long as the proof texts are used in stand alone fashion, disregarding any and all context.

    • @jeffellenberger3963
      @jeffellenberger3963 Месяц назад +1

@@djohnson3093 context is definitely key. It’s also worth mentioning that while it isn’t mandatory to know the original manuscripts as an individual the fact that we have them and they weren’t written in modern English but rather were transliterated def helps to discern the grammar including the context (of course there are fine English and other modern language transliterations) - but it comes back to if someone is going to twist or ask “did God really say..” then we definitely need to be able to go to the word and properly handle the text (and if it’s a case of something we can’t comprehend- then we aren’t to exceed it to make it say something it doesn’t)
And I agree an individual doesn’t have to go in order (as some of the books are placed in different order depending on whether it is chronological or theological) but it definitely helps that is at least the goal at some point in order to grasp the context more concretely or at least avoid “jumping around” as you mentioned.
It also depends on the circumstances of what is being brought up in terms of conversations topics or in contending.
Sadly, as you pointed out, too often it’s a game or contest to some for their own selfish reasons (eisegesis) rather than being selfless to learn from the scripture especially to the edification of others (exegesis).
But that is nothing new in terms of those having itchy ears or desiring to scratch others’ when it comes to false/unqualified teachers etc
On a positive note, even though that seems to be rampantly on display - there does seem to be just as many people beginning to and sticking with reading the word and trusting in God! For we know as God has said
“Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words remain for ever”
      God bless and 🫡

      This is exactly me
I initially read the 4 gospels, acts, Romans, then started psalms

So I fully restarted on the 4 gospels, and began taking notes when necessary

    • @jeffellenberger3963
      @jeffellenberger3963 Месяц назад

@@MartinJr.. I think it’s fair to say everyone struggles or jumbles through scripture at first and sometimes longer than we should 😆 there’s a process to learning!
its only daunting because we as humans have little to no patience and limited understanding- so as ‘difficult’ as it may seem ..at first.. it’s a great way to be able to affirm what it is we’re reading - as God wants us to grow in our knowledge of him not lean on our own finite information/knowledge. So def encouragement to you, and the same can be done with the ‘OT’ (albeit takes a little longer) and then in conjunction with the gospel things will start to make more and more sense and become more and more concrete as we grow- as that what scripture is for - the power unto salvation and drawing closer to God through Him and His Word!!
      God bless 🫡

Reading the full Bible is so important for understand who God is!! It’s so much good stuff, we can’t be afraid to read it. It won’t always be a lesson regarding something in our life now, but learning about God will never fail you. Getting a study bible has helped me a lot in understanding scriptures better. There’s just no way you can understand it fully without some help, I’ve been in exodus for about a month now. I’m taking my time, researching things I don’t understand and journaling. As we grow in Christ we have to have a deeper understanding. I’m also in a Bible study group. We have been in Acts for quite a while. We can spend an hour on only one or 2 chapters. I understand wanting to read it quickly to have an overview but as we grow, we have to get in depth.

This is so wrong😢 I was saved by reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. I started off light, and I ended up finishing it in around 40 days. That saved me. I didn’t go to a church. I read the Word of God and the Spirit of God changed me. I tell EVERYONE to read it. Let the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob work through His Word. I’m in my 7th time reading it through. In 1 Chronicles ❤️ Jesus is in the BEGINNING ❤️ it’s beautiful! Honestly I have been struggling to find ppl who are reading the Bible like me and who are passionate about the WORD of God! The road to seek Jesus Christ is NARROW. Remember that. 😊 I’m looking for Jesus’ return. I want to read it as many years I was alive 😊 I got ways to go cause I’ve only been saved for like a year. But the intimacy and the Love I feel 😍 UNMATCHED! I was telling my Mom yesterday, I have looked for this Love in relationships and not realizing that with God alone I am complete❤️ READ it in seeking the FULLNESS of God. You’ll never regret seeking Jesus 😂 I cry a lot about the Goodness of God 😊 Anyways, Seek Jesus! He is THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE

You're absolutely right about the old testament. I started seeing Jesus all over the place in the old testament as the Angel of the Lord, The Angel of God, The commander of Heavens Armies, the Son of God, the Son of Man. Moses spoke of the prophet that was to come plus Moses entire life and ministry is a shadow of Jesus life and ministry. The old testament made the gospels come alive more. It's all one story broken into two parts. Now I do admit there are some hard to read portions of scripture especially the laws but there are some nuggets of wisdom interwoven throughout those portions too. Man as soon as I started seeing Jesus in the old testament, I started falling in love with scripture. It's so interesting to me now. Our God is so brilliant and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. I pray that this generation will have a renewed passion for scripture.

Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast". This verse is considered to be a summary of the gospel, and it emphasizes that salvation is a gift from God that is not earned through human effort or good deeds. The verse also suggests that people should accept God's forgiveness as a gift, just as they would accept a birthday gift.

Bible reading for me has been progressively profitable over seasons. First, like that new baby hearing the Bible stories but not having an understanding. That's why parents cultivate the discipline in their children. They get that word in seed form and it breaks open in different seasons of our lives as we grow up, and grow through things. But we can't pull on what's not there. Sometimes the wind will blow and you'll hear a scripture in your heart... or a bird will fly by with a worm when you're worrying about your bills and you'll remember that not one of them falls to the ground without God knowing. So it's more organic - but only after you've mastered the disciplines. And the onus is on the Holy Spirit to open it up. All we have to do is read it, pray over it, and meditate on it. Takes the pressure off of us when we know that the author of the book will be the one who reveals it and connects the dots. It's so valuable. Could not survive much of my life without it.

Don't care for Steven AT ALL ,but I completely agree with reading the Bible from old to new "Systematic theology" doesn't necessarily mean reading in order but realizing that the Spirit of God is teaching and the Bible it self wasn't written in chronological order. We should always look for the message in what we read otherwise we are gathering Head knowledge and not The living Word. (How to live today) Sorry but you are wrong again. What's the use in getting the storyline and not being able to apply it to our lives....The huge problem is you trying to tell children of god how to do what you do...( my thoughts)

Disagree. Starting from the beginning gives you a foundation. You wouldn't start reading (for the first time) the book of revelations. You would bot understand the symbolism, metaphors, and imageries. The new testament us but on the old testament. You wouldn't read acts before the gospels.

@@naeembourne2474 Symbolisms, Metaphors and imageries? Gods Word is the living Word, and because it moves, (metaphor) it Seeks its purpose, you can start anywhere. Now, if one is reading because They desire the knowledge vs. A Message for their life, than by all means read it like a STUDY GUIDE. My point is not everyone reads the Word of God, in fact many don't, so if you open it up to the book of Revelations, I believe God gives the hunger for more. God is sovereign and he can move when he wants, on whom he wants, by the Word of God. Doesn't take a beginning to end system to get through the Word of God. I started reading a little bit at a time and started in John. That's been many years ago but I have gone through the entire bible but I did not start in genesis initially. I eventually started in the beginning but needed to develop a desire..(Holy Spirit infused) and it's okay to disagree. Go in peace..

That's starting with either Matthew or John and reading to the end and then going to Genesis and reading through, wash and repeat. But yeah, skipping around i believe is not very effective, but I definitely encourage multiple readings, because as you gain understanding of the breath, the nuance makes more sense. Now, one of my more favorite parts of Scripture is the genealogies. Blessings in Jesus.

This verse is considered to be a summary of the gospel, and it emphasizes that salvation is a gift from God that is not earned through human effort or good deeds. The verse also suggests that people should accept God's forgiveness as a gift, just as they would accept a birthday gift.

They all are basically become motivational speakers who use scriptures to fit THEIR narrative/belief system. The problem is, they hook people because there are threads of truth mixed in with their false interpretations of scriptures. Also they hook people because no one checks for themselves if what they’re saying aligns with scriptures. Lazy Christians. Enough said. 🥰👍

Respectfully, I disagree. Not to say that I agree with Steven Furtick. I just think a new Christian or spiritually baby Christian benefits greatly from starting in G.E.P.C. (Galatians and the next few books). Those books are quick reads that cover the gospel, our walk as a Christian and fellowship with the body of Christ, and begin the development of a biblical worldview. Even Romans is a great start as well. It covers the gospel and sin and gives a new believer a healthy fear of God that then leads to a reverence for His majesty and grace.
After that, then I’d suggest reading it cover to cover. I say this as someone who loves loves LOVES the word of God. I started with a philosophy that I stole from Ray Comfort “no Bible no breakfast, no read no feed”.

      - To whom was it being written?
      - Is the chapter descriptive, prescriptive or both?
