    I knew of an inmate who learned how to sew. He got so good at it he actually managed to stitch together a guard uniform, even copied the patches. He also made a really good badge replica, and was able to walk out impersonating a guard (even sewed leather over his prison shoes to resemble guard boots). He was never found, as it was a holiday when he escaped and he fled to a country that didn’t have an extradition treaty.

      Same and btw alcatraz had only 1 escape route the red triangle at night when everybody is sleeping and if you don't know what the red triangle is the red triangle is a triangle and alcatraz is in it but that triangle is infested with great white and tiger sharks. The people that survived didn't use a raincoat but they built a small wooden raft with raincoat for protection and sailed away. They were never caught but 1 prisoner died or blood loss from a 6X3 foot great white. And yes his body was found by a ship.

    • @robertclark2253
      @robertclark2253 4 года назад

      I maybe late in responding to your comment but I thought you may want to know 174 escape attempts were made from Colditz of those 32 were successful 16 of which got away before they reached the castle walls . The glider attempt was unsuccessful because the castle was liberated before the attempt to fly it was made some years later a documentary was made proving it could've worked . There's a 3 part documentary about this story , which originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK in 2000 , it's available on RUclips by going to ruclips.net/video/yBjTmqbNSC0/видео.html

    • @robertclark2253
      @robertclark2253 4 года назад

      The books had either been forgotten about , left there by mistake or came to the prisoners via red cross packages the POW camp known as Colditz had seen several changes in ownership and use from construction in 1158 up to and including WW2 so some things were bound to have been forgotten or lost only to be found years later . Some years after the war the glider was rebuilt using materials that would've been available in the prison at the time and it actually worked.

    When I was a Corrections Officer at the Florence, Arizona prison, there were a few that escaped or tried to escape. I knew of one inmate that used Ajax and dental floss to cut through his bars. It took him 6 months but all he wanted to do was get out of his cell to get to another inmate. They used to use leather leg restraints for the outside workers in the fields until one inmate brought a razor blade out with him and cut one of his straps and made a run for the fence where his wife was waiting with a gun. It didn't work too well since both of them were shot dead. I have many other stories but will just leave those two. Cool video. =D

    You forgot when pilots in Nazi camp made a German office uniform, one of them (who spoke perfect German) put it on, took another and walked out BY THE MAIN GATE. On top of this, he even chewed out the guards for dirty boots, not perfectly ironed shirt and told them that it will be in their papers. The escape was found during evening counting which means that they had about 8 hours of head start. Unfortunately they were captured few days later when somebody gave her location to Nazis.
