Hi! I am a Bruderhof member and find the comments hilarious, esp from people who haven't visited us..... A few corrections on your vid: all the adults have access to the internet anytime through our mobile phones, which I'm using at the moment 😂
I do not cover my head, as this is a choice that members make based on their interpretation of the Bible. So some do and others don't. Most of the pics you used are quite old.....
Outreach is important to us, we do NOT want to be isolated from the world. We welcome visitors! I volunteer at a café serving the homeless in Dover (and any tourist that happens to walk in) every Saturday, otherwise I'm a full-time teacher. I love teaching innocent children whose parents believe in the same God that I do, so I can freely talk about Jesus without being fired.... Which will most likely be happening soon to Christian teachers all over the world in these last days. And to all the naysayers on this channel....come visit us first! Personally, I'd love to talk face to face. We are, after all, just....people!

Thank you for your comment @HannahJH-gd2vt! I have pinned your comment so everyone can see your corrections. Some of the comments on this video are very inappropriate and illustrate that they either did not watch the full video or are interpreting everything in a way that conforms to their preconceived notions. However, the angry commenters are in the absolute minority. Since posting this video, I have received numerous emails from Christians who are now interested in joining or visiting the Bruderhof and asking how. I have been directing them to the Bruderhof’s “Contact Us” website page. Also, the positive comments do outnumber the negative ones heavily, although unfortunately, they are not being promoted as much by the RUclips algorithm as much as the negative comments are.

      Thanks Daine,
I do appreciate the care you took with this vid, I'm not in any way criticizing it! I'm mainly responding to some of the comments. The other thing I most likely should have said is that we, like any group of Christians, have much to work on to be truer to the Gospel message. We pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit as happened in Acts, with accompanying signs and wonders. We can't possibly live in community without that!! 🔥May it happen in 2024 🙏🙏

I spent 3 days with the Bruderhof community in the UK with my husband and 3 young sons in the late 90's. They let us live with them, my husband worked in the workshop, I worked in the kitchen, and my sons went to school. My favorite memory is the singing before the communal meal, and my sons really enjoyed milking cows. A wonderful experience!

I have visited the Bruderhof twice and am going back for a third visit in April. They are SO not "isolated" from the world. They actually encourage their children to spend time outside of the community (at least a year) to ensure that this way of life is the right one for them. About 70% of children return to the community - 30% don't...and the Bruderhof thinks this is actually good. As one member said, "If 100% wanted to join, we're doing something wrong." Families are not separated if the children go a different way. In fact, one of my hosts is going to Cancun soon with her non-member son and his family. These are very good, accepting people of strong faith. Associating with them has been an amazing learning experience.

Jake, this comment of yours "Families are not separated if the children go a different way." is a very welcome recent development. I left the hof 40 years ago and there was a season of almost a decade when my family would not even take any calls from me. I was not allowed to attend my dad's funeral in the late 90's. It's only in the past decade or so that they've totally reversed those positions. Much pain was caused to hundreds of leavers over the previous many decades by this separation of families. The Bruderhof hasn't made any collective apology to all of the leavers for this painful approach they had. As people approach them now seeking some sort of acknowledgement that there were systemic problems, not just within individual families, the apologies as a whole have not been forthcoming. I'm blessed to have renewed contact with my family on the hof, but not all of my siblings have admitted that their approach to me in the 90's was wrong. I'm not sharing this out of bitterness, but just to clarify your impression of things there.

In the 1970's when I was in college, I was part of a "community" who were trying to be like these Anabaptists. We lived in financial community, too. Each donating their income to the common purse and receiving, in turn, room and board, healthcare, transportation, etc. As I recall, we did receive an occasional allowance and were encouraged to use it for gifts for others. We also gave as a community to needs we became aware of. We ate together each evening and worshipped both in church and at home. It was a rich experience for which I am grateful. Thanks for this reminder of those formative years.

What’s the point of being salt to society if you’re leaving due to the moral decay that you’re inherently slowing down by being in the world? That would make you unsalty. Likewise, the world seeks comfort and ease and hates suffering. The world would LOVE if you avoided conflict with it and simply packed up Jesus and left your post-all the places you had an impact or could have one-to make your own earthly life easier and less distressing. I mean, isn’t that what IT values and how IT would handle the situation? You hate worldliness but would leave the world by following its own worldly values to justify your actions. So not being in a “righteous enough” community isn’t the problem then, is it?

I followed a thought that came into my mind "Did they evangelize in the Old Testament?" Actually they did. They posted on their homes who they served and welcomed strangers. So that would be the same as these "set apart" sects. I believe they are living and conducting their lives according to the scriptures. Their dress is NOT frozen in time. The world drifts further and furher from God so their dress becomes more and more ungodly.

These Bruderhofs do sound attractive, except for one thing... we are not supposed to separate ourselves from the world! We are supposed to be IN the world but not OF the world. We're supposed to be salt and light to the world. We are supposed to serve and heal the world just as Christ modeled for us. None of this can be done if we isolate away from the world and dress as if we're frozen in a random point in time. This smacks of the way the Deceivor works... present mostly Truth but twist a few subtle details. Basically, he has won with these people, as he's kept their light under a barrel and removed the saltiness from them 😢

      @tehZevo_ 8 месяцев назад +81

The Bruderhof do interact with the world though. One example is through their businesses, e.g., "Community Playthings". They also have a RUclips channel with frequent uploads, so it's hard to argue that they aren't making any outside contact or that they fail to evangelize. I would also caution against using "dress as if we're frozen in a random point in time" as an argument, as culture continues to shift away from modest dress in favor of overly sexualized styles. Dressing to meet the expectations of modern society is not a requirement of Matthew 28:19-20.

In fact I was a member of a group in the late 1960's early 1970's that lived just like this. It was an off shoot of Calvary Chapel called Shiloh Youth Revival. We lived on 70 acres in Oregon and ministered the gospel targeting the Hippie movement. We sent missionaries all around America and it was a thriving ministry. One thing I can't grasp about these groups that try to emulate the early church is why they don't study the early church. To be sure I admire much about groups like these. But to try to understand the intricacies of 1st century Christian life by just studying the New Testament is wild. Orthodox Christianity is a testament to the life of the early Christians. We are practicing the same way now that we did 2000 years ago. I wish they could read some of the writings of the early Church Fathers or visit some of our Churches in Antioch Greece or Egypt which have been there in the same place, same building, worshipping the same way for well over a millennia, some almost close to two!

I got to know some conservative mennonites and I found it to be mostly a superficial deception. Many people idealize them. But the truth seems to be that they all have control issues and see no problem with being a doormat or even abused. That's called being godly. Authority is paramount, above respect, above everything. And that's how high control religions end up with sweeping abuse under the rug and enabling it. Victim blaming. They're not that fascinating in a good way. They just obey and wear certain clothes and have to cook a lot because they have to. The truth is that they are trapped. Everyone they've ever known is that group, their entire family. And if you don't get out before you get married then you're really stuck. So many ways to trap a person and control them. It's all about power and control. Different than healthy ways of living yes, but should not be romanticized. I find cults fascinating as well, but they are still a cult.

@chris2790 what is this "one Gospel?" Paul said that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for anyone that believes it. Romans 1:16. What is that message of good tidings that can save a person just for believing it? It is that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and He rose again the 3rd day for our justification. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Jesus' Gospel was that Israel's promised kingdom is finally at hand. Mark 1:15. This Gospel of the Kingdom is what Jesus sent out the 12 (and the 70) to preach to Israel only. It was this Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus said would be preached in all the world before the end comes. Matthew 24:14
The Disciples had no idea that Jesus would be dying for our sins when they went out preaching their Gospel.
It absolutely can not be Paul's Gospel of Grace that saves us today. Israel was about to face their 70th week, and that is what all their NT Scriptures were in perfect context of. Only Paul said that day is not at hand. Israel's 70th week never came because a Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles came instead, and this Dispensation came because Israel fell in unbelief. Romans 11:11-12

Although some of the Waldensians did join up with Luther and other reformers during the 1500’s, some did not, and survived into recent times. They were not simply absorbed into other groups. How do I know this?
In the 1970’s, I visited and worshiped with Waldensians in two of their communities in Uruguay. I also knew Uruguayan Mennonites who knew the Waldensians well, and were quite comfortable with closely associating with them.

I wrote to that community and exchanged several letters with them. They sent me several booklets on their group. While they (the Moravians) separated as a community, they were very much involved in pursuing salvation for the lost ungodly dead heathens of the world. The original Anabaptists were of a similar persuasion and mission. Many don't know this, but John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim's Progress, was an Anabaptist.

Because for the last time (even Paul says this), asceticism does not lead to righteousness. You can avoid whether you want. But you forgot that Jesus says what goes OUT of a man makes him unclean. Sin is from YOUR HEART not a TV show or living in the wrong church community. Only the gospel can fix that. Keep chasing the ideal life and you’ll have wasted years looking for the perfect place when the problem is what’s IN you not around you and the solution was always in your hands: The Word. You want godliness in your own community? You go and show love to them without expecting anything. That’s godly regardless of how you feel.

    • @OldGriz406
      @OldGriz406 8 месяцев назад +5

People say isolating when you separate yourself from the world. Meaning you do not take part in what you believe is worldly things and lifestyle. Most people like Hutterites, Amish, Mennonites, and even some who are more mainline Christians are not closed off to the world. But they get labeled this way by some. It's not true. They welcome people and are out and about in the community for business etc. But when they separate in ways like not sending their kids to government schools, don't fellowship or have close friendships with people who do not hold to their beliefs. These groups have certain beliefs which set them apart from others in their mind. So they seem to to me to be following what Paul says according to their belief. Paul said this. "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." They don't shun other people to my knowledge. I know people from all these groups, and we talk often. But I hold some beliefs to them that are very worldly, and I understand their view on it. I respect them and they respect me. It's always crazy to me when people paint them as these isolated people.

      New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary?
What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

So, in essence, the Community becomes your God--telling you what to do, where to go, who to minister to, and how, etc. So in effect--THAT makes it a cult. I have been there many times over decades, and agree with so much. However THAT is what has kept me from joining them. The only difference is that you know Someone that won’t condemn you for it because of his atonement.

I had some ancestry family members that were Anabaptist, but their view was you could/should be baptized often. At any rate, I do believe in immersion water baptism and feel that once is sufficient, with sincerity to be clean from sin is the ordinance,(order) as Jesus and John set that example, and I believe the covering for women is their hair in 1Corr 11. According to that Chapter, which is a bit unclear; that's, also, only if she's praying or prophesying in the congregation; not all the time. Besides, women have been set free in Jesus Christ, not to sin, but we are free to uphold godliness and to pursue godliness with our only yoke being Jesus, who has made all things new in Him. (2 Corr. 5:17). The pope is not the spokesperson for Christ Jesus, and he is definitely fallible.
There's no male or female in Christ Jesus Gal. 3:26-27-29; and in Jeremiah 31:22, Joel 2; and in Hebrews 8, we all should know God, which we do when we've truly obeyed Acts 2:38; Acts 16:30-33; Acts 9:17-18; Acts 22:16; Acts 4:12; Acts 19;1-7; Romans 6:1-4; Mark 16:15-16; Mark 14:24; Mark 16:9, and entered into His New Testament Will & Covenant. …so let’s reframe that. If it weren’t for other boozooes, you’d be perfect and sinless? Don’t you think that maybe God’s best interest for you IS your current life to keep you humble and aware that you need him? You’re the reason you need a Savior. I think that’s important to keep in mind because once you start thinking “I just need the right environment,” it stunts your growth and you spend time trying to find heaven on earth before the promised Return instead of dealing with your sins now and moving forward in the grace allotted to you. Jesus said what goes OUT of a man makes him unclean. Sin comes from your heart. Your environment is a temptation but never the ultimate cause. You have the Word and the Spirit, who is God himself. That’s already more than enough no matter where you’re at.

Yet you want to imply that I think I would be sinless and perfect growing up in and around a group like this. The answer is still no, I wouldn’t.
The point of my comment was, as Solomon wrote in Proverbs, and demonstrated in Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son; train up a child as he should go and when old they will not depart from it.
So, if you’re-read what I said without thinking of what you’re going to reply, I said, so that I would be better prepared to deal with the thing presented later in life.

    • @Rood67
      @Rood67 7 месяцев назад +2

*THIS IS MY OPINION, not an attack.* I’ve read a lot of comments, and yours was one that struck me as sincere. I’m hoping that what I say here may prompt you to look into this further, and find out exactly what they mean, not just what was said in narration of the video.
The question to be considered is what is referred to as children? I accepted Christ close to my seventh birthday, and for all points and purpose was considered a child. Per scripture, I was not baptized prior to this point. An infant that believes their dad stole their nose, cannot comprehend Christ crucified and resurrected for the remission of sin.
What I took from this video of their theology, is what is referred to as believers baptism. Not an age limit of one must be eighteen plus before one can be baptized. A few scriptures that are *my* basis for how I believe, and what I took from this video as being their standard are:
      Acts 2:38-41 (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls.
Peter was preaching in an open air market, with people from around the known world, no age specified. Only that they were old enough to believe on Christ unto salvation due to the Holy Spirit drawing them to the Truth.
      Romans 10:9-13 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
As a fundamental, independent Baptist, we use a term “age of accountability.” The age at which knowing not to take a cookie isn’t just something one was told not to do. But the point the mind and soul understands this is disobedience, and guilt for doing wrong convicts a person. And when explained, that this is sin, and the reason Christ came.
      1 Corinthians 1:9-17 (KJV)
9 God [is] faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them [which are of the house] of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
      14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
Although I have not experienced this myself, others have stated when trying to witness to someone, being told; “I was baptized at such and sun church when I was a baby, I don’t need your preachy Jesus, I’m already good.”
A dedication of a child is something we still do for newborns. It is more a commitment of the parents that they are giving the child back to God as Hannah did with Samuel. And promising to raise the child in church where they will hear the Gospel. Because just as Samuel, as a child, did not understand it was God speaking to him until explained so that he knew what was going on; had to be old enough to comprehend. But he was still a child.
So, I would encourage you to look deeper than the passing comment in the video.

One of my first days there I found myself washing down the lunch tables after lunch - and met another women also wiping- who is the community's physician.
No person's job is more important than another's - whether that's a teacher, physician, physical therapist or laundry person. Also - some work is always set aside (not busy work) - for an older person who wants a couple of hours work...no one is set aside into a room by themselves, alone, and made to feel like life is over - they are integrated into the community at all life stages.

I think the most admirable and Biblical distinction of this community is the “opposition of all forms of gossip.” They recognize gossip for the great destructive sin as the Apostle James did, and make avoiding it a strong point of emphasis/awareness. The second part; “be ready to forgive again and again.” Is just as vital. Of course both can only be done with The Lord’s help, as human weakness makes it impossible to do in flesh.

Members are encouraged to discuss their differences just between the two of them. If they persist, they can ask another to help them with the difficulty. They are a pretty lively group with strong opinions across the board - and they're not afraid to express them. I don't see anyone being afraid to "rock the boat"...seriously.

I agree with you @kathyh4804. I did a video on Menno Simons, the founder of the Mennonites. Menno has a very interesting quote that you will like: "We are not regenerated because we have been baptized but we are baptized because we have been regenerated by faith and the word of God. Regeneration is not the result of baptism but baptism the result of regeneration. This can indeed not be controverted by any man or disproven by the scriptures”.

Sometimes I think infant baptism is a misnomer. I grew up United Methodist (not now!). The infant baptism wasn't being baptised with the holy spirit. It was a dedication of the baby and a commitment from the parents and congregation to raise the baby up in the faith.

Your stated origins for the anaBaptist movement is only true for certain named sects. You should note that there have always been "heretical" groups all through the time of the "Christian era" . In the late 1300's in England the work of John Wycliffe exposed the existence of the Lollards , a non infant immersion sect, who though associated with Wycliffe , were already active in Britain. And only gained notoriety by publicizing his English translation . The Lollards claimed no origin other than the Apostle Paul, and claimed an ancient heritage in Britain tracing back before the apostasy of Papal Rome used the civil authorities to take over Britain by the work of St. Augustine in the 6th century . Baptist and AnaBaptist differ mostly in areas of nonresistance. And We do not consider ourselves "Protestants" since we were being slaughtered by Rome centuries prior to Luther.

All heretics claim they can trace their roots back to Christ, because they all know that a man-made church is necessarily a fake church. Sadly, it's all fantasy, a bit like the freemasons who claim they date back to the head builder of Solomon's temple; total nonsense!
The only Church that can truly trace a direct line back to Christ Our Lord, is the Catholic Church. The present Pope Francis is the 266th head of the Universal Church, St. Peter being the first. You can easily search for a list of all the names and dates. There were some saintly popes (the first 30 or so all died for the faith as martyrs), there were plenty of mediocre ones, and there were some really bad ones. The point is that they were all legitimate successors of St. Peter, invested with authority passed down from Jesus Christ.
Neither Luther, nor Calvin, nor King Henry VIII, nor Meno Simons, had the authority to govern God's Church, much less start a new Church and invent new doctrines. Our Lord chose St. Peter to be the head of the Church once He ascended into heaven. If you don't like that, take it up with God. Submission to Peter is submission to Christ. "He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you rejects me." (Luke 10:16) God bless +++

I would hate to call the Bruderof an Anabaptist group. Unlike most Anabaptist groups that use a combination of elections and the lot to select leaders, the Bruderhof has been secretive, authoritarian and sues its critics. People who have left have been denied visitation with relatives. There used to be tons of material online about the good and bad of the Bruderhof, but some sites are permitted. I urge people to use great caution. A group may have good ideals, but when it sues its critics and is run by a generational dynasty with a leader who has a private jet, is that really Anabaptist? Many would say it's a cult, but do your own research. Try asking the Hutterites why they severed ties.

All I can say here is that all the huffing and puffing and finger-pointing is out of sheer ignorance by most people who have never stepped foot on a Bruderhof, or did so many years ago. There is no stronger human urge among Christians it seems than pointing out (with very limited knowledge and no life experience) that someone else is "doing Christianity wrong". I thought Jesus had strong words about judging others - but they still feel free to do so. Shameful examples of Christians - it's no wonder that so many turn away from what they see as mainstream Christianity.

They definitely have several things spot on. The family is clearly the basis of human society (Genesis 1-2) and the church. Their pro-natalist teaching is correct and most other Western churches, including the Catholic Church, have been infected by Feminism on this topic. St. Paul's teachings in 1Cor 11 about head coverings were NOT intended to be understood as a cultural artifact. His teachings on head coverings should be obeyed today (as it is in Eastern Orthodoxy).
They are wrong about a requirement for shared income. Believer's baptism was not the Apostolic Tradition and pacifism is not required by Christianity.
They will, however, flourish due to their high birthrate.

As I see it, the Bruderhof is not really family oriented as they (at least in the US) send mothers with still nursing babies away from their infants to work all day in the Bruderhof businesses (and have kindergarten for the tiny little babies). Also, the leaders may decide that an old grandparent must live in a community far away from their children and grandchildren, even when they are old and ill and don't have much time left. The old and ill are taken care of by the community, but not necessarily by their own family. I think it is deeply problematic that the leaders (all men) make decisions on behalf of the families that I think should only be made by the families themselves, and when it comes to small, still nursing babies I think the mothers together with their spouse should make those decisions about when to start working. The Bruderhof is oriented towards the interests (and economy) of the organisation, but not really towards the interests of the individual families or children.
That being said, one could perhaps argue Jesus wasn't very family oriented, either, according to the Bible, as he made his disciples leave their wife and children (who probably depended on them) and told them to "let the dead bury their dead".
