As you said in another video: We can STOP worrying about what we eat, drink, or wear when we live in a community that works to provide what we need. It goes hand in hand. Less anxiety. More productivity. More generosity. Less anxiety.
Yeah she seems like a lovely, bright girl. To post rude comments because she may live or dress different from ourselves just doesn’t make sense. If she is happy and has less worries and less stress than most of us on the outside them in happy for her and wish her all the best
Little Bird how many is lots? Could you provide several specific examples as evidence to support your claim? I am not a member or affiliated with the B in any fashion. They come across as decent simple people trying to live their lives in a peaceful gentle way. If you have evidence to the contrary, I’d like to see it.
Little Bird you ask, why do you think she’s the ONLY Bruderhof member with a RUclips channel? I don’t know if she is or isn’t the only member with a channel. I found her channel after watching the BBC program. There may be others. I’ll do a search when I have time. If people are not being held against their will, I am in favour of letting them live in peace. If their beliefs differ from mine, so be it. If I were inclined to interfere in some other groups belief system, it would probably be a group that compels women to wear burquas, or one that throws gays off of rooftops, or practices FGM, or leads to honour killings of young women who want to marry the partner of their choice. If the B are doing any of that, then close them down.
She made a great point about women’s clothing. Likely most of the people judging them for wearing skirts partake in buying clothes from companies that exploit women.
We visited last year and we were were welcomed and given a tour as we expressed some interest. We were there to hear a a talk on safer communities by the police. We were all given a lovely meal and everyone in the community were so friendly. They have chosen their way of life and it works for them.
Altough I have a completely different life than yours, I really appreciate your way of living and educating people about it. I also really like your voice, it's really calming to listen to you
While not called to your lifestyle, I agree that fashion is a trap & exhausting to keep up with! I often wear trousers but rarely buy new clothes. Hannah is a star. A beautiful woman of faith.
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" Mathew 6:25 Rock on Laura and brothers & sisters! I would be willing to wear a garbage bag just to a part of this beautiful community in Christ!
The Lord brought the documentary across my path during a night I was struggling with pain. I showed it to my husband, and we've been so blessed and encouraged watching your videos and the bruderhof channel.
Nah, the Lord couldn't do this! It is 2020 and the world is alive with Social media surveillance got your messaging in so many hidden ways from a single words, sites we click on and even exclamation points. I am glad for you to have found this. They sent it to you but it's super cool since this is not another dam BUY me or Believe ME space.
Unfortunately for a lot of people who turn away from are lord and savior knowing or not is living with Satan. And that is why they live with so much hate in their heart. Now not all people are like that. I myself know a lot of people who live without are lord and are nice and kind people.
@@LaurafromtheBruderhof I just wanted to ask that in one of your videos I thought I heard you say that your faith is Anti Baptist. I may have heard wrong so I just wanted to ask.
Slayton76 Thats so bad :( like I’m personally not very religious but I could NEVER imagine treating others Thats way. To me it’s about that person and how kind they are not how they were raised and what they believe
I used to work for the charity Hannah volunteered with and was part of her interview process. She was never set up to fail by anyone - in fact, I heard she thrived!
I just showed the BBC documentary in a college class where we are discussing intentional community, and am delighted to have this follow-up to share with them as well. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and important supplementation / perspectives! I'm sure the students will be spending time appreciating some of your other videos as well.
@@LaurafromtheBruderhof - Rivier University, in Nashua New Hampshire. :) We are a smallish Catholic liberal arts college, although of course both students and faculty come from many different backgrounds and faiths (my own faith background is Judaism). These students are in our Global Scholars program, where they have an opportunity to more deeply explore social justice and the importance of service, personal choice, and structuring a life that reflects their core values -- they're an absolutely incredible group. Not all have fully grappled yet with the extent to which they /can/ make choices outside of their current normal, if they wish to do so, and the lens you're providing is a wonderful nudge to their thinking. It really is appreciated!
That is so interesting. Sounds like a class I would like to take! Your students might be interested in this virtual event some members of my community are doing tomorrow: www.plough.com/en/events/2020/faith-and-politics-event
You can make your videos hours long and talk about anything you want and I would still watch them, I just love listening to you, you’re so refreshing 💕💞💕
I love the simplicity of your life, and by not focusing on clothing and styles, you focus on what is in your head and heart. I actually used to tell my 5th grade students that very thing, clothes and shoes do not make the person, it is what is in you head and heart. Some people my see it as restrictive, but I see it as liberating. Bless you, I am an admiring friend from coastal Georgia!
I'm not a Christian but I do love your simple way of life and how you all come together as one big family. I'm with you on the simple dressing but I do prefer to wear trousers rather than skirts. I can't remember how I came across your videos but I've been enjoying them ever since 🙂 Thank you for sharing ❤🙏
It was a bit of a gift, because I'm sure many people who saw the BBC documentary on RUclips had your videos come up as recommended. That's how I ended up subscribing.
I just want to say that I love these videos and find them fascinating. I know they take time and some work to produce. Personally, I truly appreciate these videos and the effort you put into them. Thank you!!
You never stop impressing us. I know that is not the goal, but wow. The way you handle questions is amazing. And very enlightening. Always brining a smile to our faces while squashing a bit of our own ignorance. Just really amazing. Thank you
I think what most are asking is why do men look like they could easily blend in with the rest of the world in 2020, but the women's wardrobe is very dated and amish-esque? You can buy or make plain, moden, modest women's clothing. Why aren't the men dressing more plain, like only button downs and trousers?
Rebekah Bryant What I have heard from several of the Bruderhof women in response to this question, including Laura, is this is just the style that they most prefer. They don’t seem to care if they look “outdated” or don’t blend in with the rest of society, nor do they care if the men wear clothes that do blend in more. It’s hard for us on the outside to understand because we are so used to the way we live, and it’s a similar mindset of theirs that they don’t understand us and our attraction to modern clothing or flashier clothing because they are so used to the way they live as well. The way they dress is what they are used to and it’s what they have always known. It’s comfortable to them, and from their point of view they don’t see any practical need to change things and conform to modern society if they are happy the way things are. It may look old fashioned and plain, but it’s what they desire to wear, and they don’t seem to care at all about how it looks to the outside world. As long as they are happy with the way they dress and are choosing this life freely for themselves, I don’t see why it should bother anyone. Clothing to them holds no value other than practicality and modesty; a foreign concept to us, but a comforting and welcomed concept to them. I could certainly learn a lot from them and their rejection of materialism and their non-conformity to modern capitalistic society’s ever-changing trends. We all could.
@@BhappyD I really hope I didnt come off as rude in my question. I don't see anything wrong with how the bruderhof women dress. Just curious about why men don't dress in the same style. Such as plain button downs and trousers.
I feel the same. It is the button down shirt and the head covering, that evoke the old times. And to me it seems almost intentional. Of course you can say that women's clothes changes more than men's clothes. But I also have some pieces maybe for 10 years now and still I don't look like from another century. And since they buy clothes from today's shops for men (jeans, t shirts with pictures), they could buy also skirts and simple t-shirts for women. No judging, if this is what they like, that's ok :) just wondering... :)
@@BhappyD While this may be true if people were to want to join it might prevent them from doing so. I know for me it would because I'd be okay wearing modest denim jean pants but not a skirt or a dress. I just personally don't physically feel comfortable in skirts and dresses but there's some women who are the opposite and do prefer skirts and dresses.
First off, i work in childcare, so when I found out your community is the makers of Community Playthings I got super excited! I love those products and hope to open a center using those products one day! Second, I’m a Christian as well and I always find it so fascinating how different Christian groups live. But I find all religions quite fascinating. You seem like a very lovely person and I’d love to hear more :) thank you for making these videos.
I have a home daycare. I just looked up the website and oh my goodness! I just need a bigger house and more money, lol! I absolutely love their products. Maybe someday..... 😀
Just to say thank you for just such another lovely post. Funny, I suspect you are quite a few years younger than myself but I feel like I'm listening to a spiritual mother. Thank you for the insight and the kind love you send out to all who take a moment to watch you. May God grant you many years...
I have so enjoyed your videos and learning about your life in the community! You explain everything in a articulate, relatable way. I have great respect and admiration for you all!
Hi Zoe. Children wear stuff that can withstand a lot of rough and tumble play! Shorts, tshirts, little dresses for the girls. Maternity wear is basically a bigger version of the usual clothes.
It's not one second too long! I enjoyed it. Thank you for pointing out some of the choices the producer made. Knowing next to nothing about the Bruderhof it's basically impossible to see through them. I've been reflecting on my clothing reaction, because I had the same as you mention others having, and that's reason for some introspection! I really appreciate this nudge, so thank you!
I think that sharing clothing is liberating. An assortment of clothing for special occasions or to blend in with others that is shared could be part of the system.
@@bradykincaid9095 this makes me think of a monk who spoke on the subject, he said having fewer of the unimportant choices (what to wear or eat) freed up energy for other more important things in life according to him. This only works if you have freely chosen to follow the dress code of course. I don't know how true this is but it seems to be some people experience.
Just found your site; quite interesting and I like you, Laura....you have a good sense of humor for laughter is the best medicine.....Best wishes to you, your family and community.
I think your community is wonderful and you are a great example of living a fulfilling life. Thanks for making these videos. You are an intelligent, thoughtful young woman and we can all learn from the way the Bruderhof live.
Great video Laura! You make a good representative for the Bruderhof if I may say so. It's great to see that the Bruderhof is so involved in the outside world around them, rather than being a closed, stuck in tradition church group. I used to live in the bruderhof in the late 80s and early 90s and they have made leaps and bounds in the way they relate to the people outside (and inside) the bruderhof for that matter. I grew up with your Dad & know your Mom and especially know your dad Edward well. He was a great guy and I enjoyed the time I spent with him when he was still single in the Maple Ridge Bruderhof. Thanks again for your videos.
This is so special! Thank you for sharing your perspective and the why behind the what. Such a good thing for all of us to practice. Thank you for your words and encouragement by example.
You are delightful! Thank you for addressing all those points. I enjoyed the documentary but your opinion helps clarify some cloudy areas. It's very difficult for me to picture living your lifestyle, but it is a very wholesome one and I respect it!
Fascinating, Laura. This is all new to me. I suppose to people who are healthy and heterosexual, it would seem like a welcoming and refreshing sort of community. I'm Jewish, but I know a good bit about Christianity and am so...er, annoyed?...by the way many modern people approach that religion. Your community's approach seems true to what Jesus taught. I'm especially struck by the peaceful looks in everyone's eyes. I really like knowing that our world has you in it. I guess I'm just saying, "I like you folks."
@@UnPoquitoDeSal you know if the editors are not Christian they're not seeing correctly they're biased period so it might be they did so on knowing. Just saying. Or they could have done it intentionally. We don't know. A lot of professional people have a bias against Christians though. Why because I've worked among many professional people. Moose colleges are learning centers of humanism.
I thought the people making the documtentary was very benign. They mainly showed what the protagonists want us to see, their selfportrayal. That is okay with me, but I really can't see animosity in the documentary. They could have talked to people who have left the Bruderhof community. They could have asked about power structures. When you have no income on your own, then you depend on the community and some people rule the community and others have no choice but to obey. Abuse seems likely to me. They could have asked why the young lady went to London, where overcrowding, lonelyness and consumerism are more extreme than in other parts of the country. Do the Bruderhof people hit their children?
You're such a great storyteller! I've been following your for a while now and I love your content. Thanks for sharing your world with us, and also for correcting the misleading editing ;)
I love how well and yet concise you answered all the questions. I kind of expected all the answers as such- been reading about Bruderhof a lot . Only news to me is the head covering change- I noticed in last couple videos that some ladies do not wear them. I think that is a good choice to have, not necessarily for the vanity or “”modern “ reasons, but more because I know that constant wear of tight head coverings can actually create some permanent hear loss( personal experience). I love your simplicity, have huge respect for Bruderhofs pacifism and for trying to contribute as well as be an example of better life to this messy world. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely love your energy,Ty for answering questions,I believe people now have an idea how documentary ‘s are made,As for the lifestyle, had it been presented to me,I would be there now, simplicity is truly making more time and space for what truly is joy.Family,Friends,Community and the Support to be anything your called to do ☮️💟🇨🇦Love you Laura your artistic creativity is extraordinary 🌻
I actually found your channel through the BBC documentary. And I'm a subscriber. I appreciate this video and your insights about how insensitive the documentary was. But I also feel blessed to have found you through the documentary!! A funny puzzle:)
My African country has a 1min segment every 4 years announcing our election results on BBC just because they don't get to tell a civil war story afterwards. We are too boring as Africans was the last comment made on us.
Hi Laura, Mizmor from Israel here. :) I got familiar with your channel after watching the BBC film, which was the first peek into your community for me. I Just want to say I appreciate your openness and will to share about your community and life. I and many others of my friends here, are constantly busy with the question of community and looking for ways to go back (or should i say go forward) to a more social conscience way of life, that is sustainable for us humans and the environment. I feel your community has a lot of the values I appreciate and try to keep high in my own life.I hope to continue learning and getting inspired by you. תודה!
I just looked at your claymation (?) video. That is so cool! Maybe a dumb question but how familiar are you with the kibbutz movement? The first Bruderhof in Germany was pretty much next door to a place called the Gehringshof which was a farm that was set up to train Jewish farmers who then emigrated to Israel and many of them started communities. The Bruderhof had a lot to do with the kibbutz movement over the years and we still have many friends there. Anyway...
@Laura from the Bruderhof Ah! yup, you can say claymation, though claymations are usually mostly flexible clay so if to be professionally exact you would call it a stop motion film. you saw the one with the little girl and her grandmother that died right? (I have a few up there, but that is really the only full film) I do know of the kibbutz movement. I don't think you can find an Israeli or even a jew who wouldn't :). I lived on a Kibbutz when I was little for a year, while my parents were trying it out. I have many wonderful and also some complex memories of that year. I was only 5. I hadn't heard of that farm in Germany, I'll read about it now. There were many farms back then where euro[ian jews did their training before coming to israel. I was curious if the Bruderhof had a community in Israel, and when googled it, found some kibbutz members telling about their friendships with the Bruderhof members.looks like we might have some mutual curiosities, we can talk more in depth privately on email if you'd like. here is mine: Mizmorw@gmail.com.
I'm curious about whether there are any limitations regarding the types of music you can listen to or play (privately or in performances). Along the same lines, are there limitations with respect to dancing? Thank you!
You guys are AWESOME. I grew up in a Christian home and I have lived in formal Christian community. Worked for the church, now my wife and I work in a retreat house. Your communty's lived out witness of love is AWESOME. I have been reading Foundations of our calling and faith. Which I am really enjoying. May God contintue to bless you Don
One way to think about it is that modest clothes are not distracting to others. Modest clothes don't catch the eye of people because they are plain and not form fitting. As a female, I find it almost impossible to find a pair of trousers that aren't form fitting. Women's pants are often tight and revealing in order to attract attention and not necessarily because they are more comfortable for the wearer. Skirts are actually quite comfortable and freeing, although to someone who is not used to wearing them there would be an adjustment period.
Andrea C. Culottes are fantastic pants that are not form fitting. Paper bag pants are as well. Flared jeans and wide legged jeans are also out in most stores this year. I don’t like form fitting pants either and have endometriosis so I need to wear looser pants around my abdomen. Lately though I’ve been living in sweatpants...quarantine life :)
Totally agree! And the fact is this is sexism. Women get a uniform (inc skirts), and not allowed to wear pants, while men don’t. You can try to contextualise it all you want and tell people to actually like the skirt but it’s a very simple problem that could be very easily solved that they choose not to because religion is still scared of female bodies.
The reason I'm watching you and have scheduled a zoom meeting with the bruderhof is because of that documentary. I think it was a blessing. I'm sorry though that most people have these vain types of questions, but it is what it is.
I’d love to come to visit. I’m wondering if you could do an interview with a mother from the community who has teenage sons? And show a little about how the boys from 14-17 spend their days.
I'm glad you mentioned, what was left out in the documentary and talk about the way things are handled in your community. It is a thing, that happens quite often sadly, due to a lack of time or research or just the fact, that the person in charge want to prove his point of view and not all the facts. The way of living in a Bruderhofgemeinde isn't my way of living, but I deeply respect your way to live together. I think in many ways we could and should take some of your way of living together, sharing and keeping the materialistic things of live simple into our own lives. Because cool stuff won't make you happy, but a meaning in life does. I stumbled across your channel, because I watched the documentary, that was recommendet to me. I really like your videos I could watch so far and am going to watch more as my time allows. Have a merry christmastime you all and be there for one another. Especially in these hard times.
Thanks for asking! The Bruderhof has our own doctors and dentists that work in Bruderhof-run medical clinics and dental offices. However, if there is an illness or procedure that needs specialist care, Bruderhof patients will be referred elsewhere.
Hi Laura! I have no idea how I got to your videos but i'm glad I did. You look so calm when you speak and it makes your videos very nice and interesting to watch, even if I disagree with some of your opinions. Anyway, sending you a virtual hug from the other side of the world in Jerusalem, Israel!
Don't usually comment on videos but just wanted to share what I find to be the most comfortable way to wear skirts-wear leggings, shorts, or some other article of pant under the skirt. I have a toddler and being able to move in any direction I like without having to worry about the position/height of the skirt has been really freeing! Thank you for the content Laura!
This is great information. Thanks for answering questions. I find that "documentaries" ultimately steer the viewer in one direction or another, and by leaving things out or only focusing on one aspect of life, they can miss the whole story. I wish they were more about showing the truth and less about selling the narrative. Again, thank you for your time to answer these questions.
BBC always struggles with covering religious communities. When they covered the Hutterites I almost felt it was religious Guantanamo till the full story came out. Bruderhof got off lightly. I guess there wasn't much interesting. The BBC are liberally conservative I guess. lol Close-minded to religious stuff
That was a very eloquently worded statement! I actually learned about the Bruderhof from my dad who was friends with a Bruderhof member before I was born. He just told me about it a few weeks ago. I'm really fascinated and inspired by the way you guys approach following Jesus and living on this earth. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with all of us! All the best to you, Laura, your family, and the Bruderhof community!
I just watched the documentary...it hit home when the guy spoke about his family leaving bruderhof for awhile when he was a teenager...he and other family members eventually went back to community and his comment about sense of belonging sums up everything...isnt that the essence of humanity? Every single person needs that more than anything, belonging. And that is not what our society is based on...it cant be when the focus is on self...you walk up a street or drive through a town and NO ONE is out...they work or school and back inside the home...no mingling with others outside their home, no children playing with others outside their home...we are a selfish society. So we have no sense of belonging and we try to fill that void with anything and everything. Where is the peace in that for anyone?
Safe Haven; I'm sorry to say that the sense of belonging anywhere, which we crave, is being attacked by the ambitions of the globalists. Even the notion of Nationhood is being scoffed at by politicians and the mainstream media. Thankfully, God has given us His word and we know that those who accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord, will have an eternal home where He is. Those groups who are demanding a lawless world (defunding the police and closing courts of law) and open borders ( i.e. no borders), will get their wish; and their dream will become their nightmare when they live under the totalitarian world system soon to come, headed by the lawless one, the 'beast' ( Rev.13). The apostle Paul tells us who are believers that our citizenship is in heaven. We all want to be loved and to love. We all yearn for that sense of belonging. Only the Lord Jesus can meet our longings. Those that put their faith in Christ will be richly loved and blessed for eternity.
They seem dangerous insensible for girls who horse playing & tree climbing. No shade. I respect your way of life. Just sharing what I thought when I saw them playing. Also, now that I'm overweight, I had a terrible chafing from waking around an amusement park in a summer dress.
Thanks so much Laura and other Bruderhof members who spend so much time and effort sharing not just what you do but the reasons why. I only just discovered you through the BBC documentary on RUclips. Your videos and material I’ve read from Plough have challenged many of the basic assumptions that I make about how life is to be lived - assumptions that I wasn’t even aware of until you challenged them. Even if one is not called to the sort of communal life of the Bruderhof, there is much to be learned and applied from your way of thinking. It seems to me that most of the criticisms people are making stem from the impossibility of understanding your actions through the lens of the common cultural paradigm, as opposed to seeking to understand the paradigm in which your actions make perfect sense.
Hey Laura! Love your smile 🤗 I love the way you talk about your community and how it's such an enriching part of your life. I'm Indian and we're huge on that so I get how it's just so delightful to have them 😊 I was wondering that if you don't have personal money in the Bruderhof, how is it that you buy jewellery like wedding rings?? Is there a standard design of some other kind of arrangement? Genuinely curious so I hope you see this! Ps: Your love for God is inspiring. In the beginning, the way of living you've adopted seemed a bit strange to me but you're serving God literally through loving ppl and sharing practically everything which is just so AMAZING. Sending loads of love to you and your fam! 💙
Thank you Grace! No we don't have our own money. Everything we earn goes to the community. I was given my wedding ring and membership ring by the community.
I have known people from Bruderhoff for decades since I used to live in New Paltz where they ran the local pantry distribution point. I have always been impressed with their dedication to the needs of others. Further, their magazine ( called The Plough?) is a well edited and thought provoking. Their way of life is not for me but I am grateful that we are not all the same. They were good neighbors.
Hi! We lived near you for several years and my children grew up with the Bruderhof. Thank you for being such amazing and caring and empathetic people. My children felt totally accepted. And we stay in touch still today with some of the families.
Hi Laura, I recently found out about the bruderhof from stumbling across your videos & also the BBC documentary, i have been totally fascinated with you and your way of life. I have a lot of problems with binge eating / mental health issues and spending money to try and fill a void, it just looks so lovely living without worrying about buying clothing and not making that a big part of who you are / your identity. Im Christian also! I think God led me to your channel :-) God bless you and your family. I’ll continue to watch xx
They know not what they do ...People are always going to attack things they can not understand ..... ..You can see in the way you speak and carry yourself that you are truly content with your life style ... The grace you show when explaining to those who do not understand you , speaks volumes to your character and your inner peace .... Bless you and be well
Laura: you always bring sunshine to my day, and your current response to the BBC documentary, is no exception. Always so reasonable. Congratulations on the 13,500 subscribers! I’ve never subscribed to anything, but it’s time now for me to subscribe to your channel as a mark of respect.
I stumbled upon your channel by accident and feel I've learned so much by watching several of your videos, thank you for taking the time to make them! I understand the modesty part and not wanting to buy into the fashion industry or even giving your clothes too much thought, and I completely see how that could be oh so liberating in a way. But I still struggle to understand why modest (both in the sense of covering up and not showing off) and cost effective have to mean, for lack of a better wording, unflattering. That actually boggles my mind way more than shopping a communal closet, possessing just enough outfits for one week, only wearing skirts, choosing to cover one's head or getting married in your everyday clothing. Still, loving your videos and could listen to you talk for hours!
@dave dude Hey Dave, you don't come accross as someone who wants to understand people, but someone who has been hurt a lot by people and has a lot of anger because of this. Why do you so clumsily go for shock value, how would that make you feel better about yourself? Why do you allign how you dress with who you are, a piece of clothing defining you? That would be kind of limiting and taking an impoverished look on who you are, would it not?
@dave dude Hey Dave, I have no use for labels, how would that enrich my life? Labels are crutches that create an illusion of self-identification, rather silly to my mind. I expressed an impression you made, so sure I could be totally wrong in which case I apologize if it offended you. I don't know what that means "awakened"? It presupooses I was asleep before and I don't know how I would determine that, seems more like a judgment other people make about you and not something that would make sense to do to myself, so that terminology I have to leave with you. As for your advice, I'll gladly take it, to strive to become wiser sounds like a good idea at all times.
I dress in practical, inexpensive clothing that lasts for years at home but it is nice to dress in a pretty frock occasionally and is pleasing to my husband which I believe are also Christian sentiments. I hadn't appreciated you took a vow of poverty. Great explanation as always, Laura. Love to listen to you, your loving spirit shines out!
or maybe about people inside the community who do not feel the need to marry or having children ? Is it an option to remain single or to marry without having children ? I know, it's part of the Christian faith to marry and have kids but well... has the skills (or the desire) to grow a child, I guess. :)
I admire your patience and generosity in taking time to answer so many questions. I have always pondered how it would be to create less formal faith communities in an urban setting, or even multi faith communities of care. One thing that is happening in my area is the development of Mutual Aid Societies throughout our capitol city, where people help one another with basic needs, even dog food or pampers, etc.Help out folks in pther ways as well, clearing snow, etc.
When I moved to the countryside in Peru I was shocked to see "all the women wearing the same clothes", asking them they said "we don't wear the same clothes, each one has a style, you westerners wear the same puffy jackets and jeans!". I started seeing what they were saying straight away.
Well explained Laura. Never heard of Bruderhof before, watched the BBC doc, and really appreciated your well presented balance to your way of life. Stay healthy, and safe.
Yes, the editing of the documentary might have been sided - but not as much as i thought it would be. Well, it kept me interested and open minded to your community - so it wasnt as sided as it could have been. For a TV program quite neutral. Thank god we have public media creators in most european countries ( Im from Germany) best wishes :) nice video!
As you said in another video: We can STOP worrying about what we eat, drink, or wear when we live in a community that works to provide what we need. It goes hand in hand. Less anxiety. More productivity. More generosity. Less anxiety.
That dead was the egalitarians’ dead. The poor women abused by all the various forms on the infastructurian Catholic Church.
Laura gives off such happy and genuinely positive energy! She seems like a person most folks would love to have as a friend.
I love to have a friend or a sister like Laura.
Yeah she seems like a lovely, bright girl. To post rude comments because she may live or dress different from ourselves just doesn’t make sense. If she is happy and has less worries and less stress than most of us on the outside them in happy for her and wish her all the best
I would love to have a Wife like Laura. She is wonderful.
I can’t understand people leaving rude comments on your videos. You are so kind and undeserving of that.

The comments aren't directed at her
She made a great point about women’s clothing. Likely most of the people judging them for wearing skirts partake in buying clothes from companies that exploit women.
and the ones complaining are dressing just like their own friends/family / community LOL
Exploit kids, woman, men.
Their skirts are awesome 💟💕💟 I'm going to look for maxi skirt on eBay inspired🆘 the bruderhof ladies do a great job of making their skirts

We are a smallish Catholic liberal arts college, although of course both students and faculty come from many different backgrounds and faiths (my own faith background is Judaism).

@@littlebird8346 bitter answer
@@BhappyD While this may be true if people were to want to join it might prevent them from doing so. I know for me it would because I'd be okay wearing modest denim jean pants but not a skirt or a dress. I just personally don't physically feel comfortable in skirts and dresses but there's some women who are the opposite and do prefer skirts and dresses.

Can you do a wardrobe closet tour and how you get the clothes or how to style them?
2 questions,
1) what do children wear ?
2) How does the women's wardrobe change for maternity ?
Common clothing seems an absolute blessing and really liberating.
I think that sharing clothing is liberating. An assortment of clothing for special occasions or to blend in with others that is shared could be part of the system.
Just a question. How could clothing restraint be liberating? That smacks of oxymoron. Correct me if I am wrong.

Fascinating, Laura. This is all new to me. I suppose to people who are healthy and heterosexual, it would seem like a welcoming and refreshing sort of community. I think the editing of the documentary says more about the prejudice of the BBC and their agenda than about those being documented.
Yes, definitely.
@@UnPoquitoDeSal you know if the editors are not Christian they're not seeing correctly they're biased period so it might be they did so on knowing. Just saying. I think you talk a lot of crap.
Y.E.S. 🙌👍🏼 I saw BBC and thought “well this will be a hit piece”

@@LaurafromtheBruderhof Let me know if you do, i'd love to show you around :)
Thank you!
I wouldn't want to listen to anything dark or destructive. Dancing...we do quite a bit of what you might call folk dancing but not much else.

Trousers are still durable, modest and cost effective, so I don’t understand why they can’t have a few pairs.
@@caremore33 I have trousers that aren't form fitting! I think you need to widen where you shop!
@@caremore33 You sound indoctrinated. There are literally thousands of options that aren't form fitting.

That's a really good idea, I'll work on arranging it.

Thanks for sharing!!
Love listening to you talk about the Bruderhof.
Thank you!
Very interesting video as usual, you do such a good job of explaining everything! So well spoken!!

Thank you Tom for your thoughtful response.

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! God bless you
Is the head covering optional in church - during services - as well?
Yes
They know not what they do ...People are always going to attack things they can not understand ..... ..You can see in the way you speak and carry yourself that you are truly content with your life style ... The grace you show when explaining to those who do not understand you , speaks volumes to your character and your inner peace .... Bless you and be well
Laura: you always bring sunshine to my day, and your current response to the BBC documentary, is no exception. Always so reasonable.
Congratulations on the 13,500 subscribers! I’ve never subscribed to anything, but it’s time now for me to subscribe to your channel as a mark of respect.
Wow, thank you!
Super informative, articulated well and done very openly. Thanks for sharing... from NZ.
So nice of you!
Thanks for your patient explanations. I just don’t really think clothes are that big a deal. Hugs
Just watched and this is so good to hear your perspectives on the documentary
it makes me so mad when they leave out those details. it’s like they wanted people to make those comments. thanks for the response, it really helped!
I'm a Plain Quaker who dresses modestly and wears a head covering. It's not a big deal. It is a personal leading.
@dave dude, do you mean my opinion? Do you look good doing it? What effect would my opinion have on what you wear? 😁
@dave dude, gotcha. I say wear what you enjoy wearing. I think clothes can help you express yourself.
@dave dude Seems rather disingenuous to give people advice you are clearly not willing to follow yourself.
There doesn't appear to be any outreach, which is a command - save/reach the lost? Can anyone inform me if they know?
I dress in practical, inexpensive clothing that lasts for years at home but it is nice to dress in a pretty frock occasionally and is pleasing to my husband which I believe are also Christian sentiments. I hadn't appreciated you took a vow of poverty. Great explanation as always, Laura. Love to listen to you, your loving spirit shines out!
Your videos are never too long. Actually, I love them and wish they were longer!
The only thing about this I don’t like is the pronunciation of “Bruderhof”. My first language is german (I’m from Austria) and that hurts xD
@@chantalle7340 with a long o😇
What kind of accent is that?I mean where is it from .
@@deirdrewilson8957 bruderhof is a german Word :-)
Thank you for the gracious way that you answer all the questions here.
I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts about contraception
or maybe about people inside the community who do not feel the need to marry or having children ? Is it an option to remain single or to marry without having children ? I know, it's part of the Christian faith to marry and have kids but well... has the skills (or the desire) to grow a child, I guess. :)
@@leolewanay She answered that before. Yes, there are singles and nobody is expected to get married and have children.
I love your videos!! You explain topics so thoroughly!
Thank you so much!
