Some months ago, I already got my Ray II in place of the never-loved SKX013, and... of course, it's enough to be better than SKX; this one was bulkier, less proportionate and obsolete than Mako and Ray II... In just a few years Seiko prices has grown for no reasons; on the other hand, Orient added a sapphire crystal to its wonderful new diver (Mako/Ray based). I will be always satisfied by my Solar Seikos, but, in this case, Orient is the winner.

It took a year since I saw this review, but I finally bought this watch. I already had a blue Ray II and a blue Triton. A week after ordering the Kamasu (and before it arrived), I purchased a black Triton (since they are apparently being discontinued) and a blue Orient Star Diver. My other divers are a Citizen Promaster (BN0191-55L), a green Bulova Oceanographer (Devil Diver) 96B322 and a Glycine Combat Sub 42 Ambush (GL0079). Now that I have the Kamasu, I will probably give the Ray II to a friend.
I nearly bought a seiko 5 today at my local watch shop. I thought i would wait a bit longer and maybe buuy online as it was considerably cheaper there. Then as i was looking again i came across this orient and bam, instantly fell in love with it. I ordered it from a respected dealer on ebay and now i cant wait for the kamasu to arrive. I'm relatively new to the addiction and I've learned that while the dial is usually the main attraction, if the watch doesn't feel good on the wrist, I don't want to wear it no matter how attractive the dial. Which reminds me, Orient's description of their dial Kamasu "teeth" feels accurate to me. It's attractive yes, but very aggressive in nature..very sharp index at 12:00, very sharp hour and seconds hands. I have the Red Kamasu and like it. Love my Blue Ray II. Excellent review sir.

Definitely a watch I would consider if I didn’t already have a blue Ray II and a blue Triton. I also have an Orient Star GMT and an Orient Classic pocket watch. Except for the Ray II, all of these have a power reserve meter, which I have come to greatly appreciate.
PT111111 I have 35 modern wristwatches. I like to have them all to have the correct time, so that I can grab any one of them to wear without having to reset the time/date. My quartz watches are easy. The most any of the ones I wear is off is 3 seconds per week (most are less than 1 second off or exact) and I am not concerned about them stopping if I don’t wear them. (I do have a Seiko Kinetic which I give a shake once a week.) I actually wear my Triton every day since I wear it to bed. So, it stays wound. My other automatics do not get worn regularly so I will let them stop. It is just nice to know their winding status at a glance.
I love the macro shots of the watch nice feature of your videos.. I especially enjoyed the shot at 4:26.. Really cool. I like your work bro.. I will sub.
This is an incredible watch for anybody with impaired vision I only have vision in one eye and I can see what time it is any time of day from any angle on this watch it's absolutely gorgeous also. I replaced my Seiko 5 Sport because it was getting so hard to read.
I've been eyeing this watch for a minute and I think l might buy it in this exact color. Call me crazy, but I think this dark teal is actually quite versatile, and given that it can look black/dark at times, I feel like this watch would make a great default daily watch. I really want to see it in person in natural lightning. Anyone else think this watch could wear like neutral colored watch?
Thanks for the review. I have been after the 'green dial' Kamasu for a while and everywhere I looked it was sold out. Finally located one this evening and placed the order.
Got one on the way now excited 😊 I'm wearing a spinnaker bradner in Atlantic blue with black leather strap. I LOVE my spinnaker and highly recommend it to ANYONE
The "teal" does pop though, its a nice deep oxford green and is a colour that I for one would def consider. Thanks for the review, good narration and excellent macro photography! Ref hands not aligned, well you can realign it yourself, setting the time on the second too! The joys of hackable movements my friend!
This watch is really nice and good value for the money. The biggest weakness i would say is the tiny screw down crown which i fear will be the first part of the watch that will go faulty or fail. If I were to go swimming or diving, I would not wear this. I will wear a $10-20 quartz watch. Most people buy this watch not for actual underwater usage hence the screwdown crown is just an unnecessary "weakness". Either you wear this often or you need a watch winder. Otherwise you will be screwing the crown up and down to adjust the time and date. And with such a small crown and tiny threads...i reckon it won't last! I got this watch recently and this was the first impression that I got. As much as I like the looks of the watch, just the correct size , sapphire crystal and all, the fragility feel of the crown let me down.
I really enjoyed this watch review! I need to start looking for some affordable watches. I am sick of spending $4k every time I want to add a new watch to my collection.
This is a beautiful watch I will definitely be looking for one at a good price. I have the Orient Blue-ray II which I purchased for $127 delivered. Teal is also my favorite color but I wish they moved this case size up to 42 instead of the 41 1/2 just to have something different from the organ Ray and Mako. Thank you
I ordered the « green » and red one last friday i think it will be a good surprise to discover these beautiful timepieces ! Thanks for the review, i like your videos 😁.
gorgeous watch you got there! For the specs, I thought it would have been at least around $400. You are right, this could might as well be a one watch collection! Definitely defeated the new Seiko 5.
Great review! I totally agree with you about the Orient becoming the sweet spot of EPSON group.. My Kamasu and Bambino are my favourites among the other seiko’s i have in terms of quality, features looks and precision
I ordered this "teal" Kamasu 3 months ago from Jomashop and paid around $200. I immediately replaced the flimsy bracelet with a mesh style bracelet. This watch is very easy to find wrist time and the more you wear it, the more you'll love it. It keeps excellent time and can be dressed "up" or "down". Sapphire crystal, hacking, exotic color, perfect weight and the Orient name all make this watch a MUST for anyone that is looking for a great everyday watch.
Gorgeous dial! I'm considering this as my everyday and outdoor field watch. Would love to see how this compares with the Orient Star Outdoor with the slightly smaller dial but longer lug-to-lug for a fellow slender wrister!
Got mine yesterday,it’s not green dial only the bezel, invicta has better lamination at dark,I’m disappointed so returned it. This is more accurate video than others
Great review of a great watch, I love mine. It's becomming my favorite in my collection. One plus of the bracelet you didn't mention ...it has 4 micro adjustments, which I think is a good thing. Great video, you are my favorite reviewer👍
Thank you so much my friend! I actually talked about the micro adjustments when recording, but it appears I accidentally cut it out while editing... I have no idea what I'm doing :D Thanks for watching!
I received my red Kamasu yesterday (Dec 2020, ordered direct from Orient USA with a 15% discount) and frankly, I'm thrilled with it. It has a stunning appearance and the band is NOT at all cheap or otherwise needing replacement. I don't know why the reviewer said he would have preferred another band. Mine is robust with a solid feeling. After one full day of operation, it is running 2 seconds fast. I will keep a close eye on it but if it stays 2 secs/day fast, that is entirely acceptable. I will leave it sit over night crown down and see if it slows. That's how I control my Rolex. Crown down slows the action, laying flat speeds it up. I managed to keep my Rolex within 2 seconds for the first six years of ownership. I mean 2 seconds from correct time, not 2 seconds per day.
Just bought one for $450AU the Kamasu in "green" However in most lighting situations the dial and bezel are in point of fact BLACK. Only when under a spotlight or in direct sunlight does it show a ribbon of dark bottle green across the diameter of the dial. In a diffused light situation however, e.g. sunlight through a frosted glass window does the ENTIRE dial indeed show a subtle green tint all the way through. But in most situations the dial is black. So please don't be fooled by the videos you see on youtube. Having said all that it is a beautiful looking watch with a first class movement. My only complaint is that the crown is a little small and difficult to maneuver at times especially on screwdown. Overall Rating: 9/10
Owned a Mako 2, for me that's a direct replacement to SKX. Kamasu would be a step up. And im waiting for Xmas to buy a red one, well... you know, need an excuse :P
I really like the look of this watch and am considering buying one, possibly the one you have reviewed which I think looks awesome. The other one I am thinking of is going for the red dial one which I have seen on another review on another channel. I won't be going for the black/gold one though as I have the Invicta Pro Diver which you have also reviewed. The accuracy on my Pro Diver is +3 seconds per day on average which is great straight out of the box. I also have the blue version of the Pro Diver which has an accuracy of around 4 seconds per day. The Seiko NH35A movement is great in those watches. Thanks for this review, I really enjoy watching your channel. Best wishes from here in the UK.
I have this same watch. I've found that a dark blue NATO looks beautiful with the teal color. Mine was running about 30-35 seconds fast each day. I had it regulated today and so far it's not losing any time. We'll see. I'm looking for the red one but they're getting hard to find and the ones I did find were overpriced. I paid $209.00 for mine from Jomashop.
I think you make a great point, Orient and Orient Star are now the best value in the Epson line for the $,€,£, ¥ spent. Is this the replacement for the SKX ? Yes and no. Yes it has the better water resistance but, no, the manual with my Orient Ray says to avoid wearing when using power tools or riding a motorcycle 🙁, so it evidently doesn’t have the shock/vibration and magnetic resistance of the SKX. So it’s much more “swimable”, certainly attractive, but not as tough overall 😉.
I already ordered mine online at a rediculously low price for such an an impressive collection. Ive owned several orient mako before but this one is in a class of its own. I am disabled and not very active so my watches last me decades. I anticipate years of pleasure with this.
I bought my Kamasu a year ago while traveling in Japan. It is exactly like yours except the red/burgundy dial and made in Japan. Even the small misalignment of the bezel is the same as in your's watch. I got it with +15 spd which was quite disappointing, but I managed (with some luck) to regulate it to almost zero (I actually get ~5 sec/week!). I totally agree with your observations, especially it's ability to look good with different straps. My favorite one is a shark mesh that costs 10 USD in Amazon and looks great for any situation. Thanks for your good work with this review and the others!
i am planning to add kamasu w/ red dial near my skx007. they will be perfect companions, as they have the same lug width, i can buy several nato and leather straps to match them. i also agree with your "skx replacement" comment. seiko 5 cannot be an skx replacement with its poor WR.
I love this watch. Its my first watch and had it for about a year. Its almost perfect for my liking the only weak link (haha) is the bracelet that can be a bit rattly with fast wrist movements. Other than that, love the dial, love the case and the whole fit and look of it. Oh yeah the specs are good as well. and for 200 euros? I know im new to all this watch stuff but still. been immersed in all of this and this is just amazing. The new kamasus look more Rolexey and I hate that different color from 0 to 15 on the bezel. If you like the design of the original and have the money there is no reason not to buy it. Especially for a first watch or for someone looking to build a small collection of cheaper watches this has to be on your list.
I would never argue with you, this effer is TEAL, and putting it next to a GREEN watch how could you argue? I got the red one, well at least what I identify as red, lol a great review of a watch worth every cent of the price!
One of yoru best vid review and you presented some very strong reasons that is a great-value-for-money watch. Damn, I just bought a new watch a month and a half ago... if only I see this video earlier.
Well, teal is a shade of green the same way that burgundy is a shade of red. I think you're considering Kelly green or perhaps Forest green as a pure green and thinking teal a wholly different color. I'll agree with you however that a straight up Kelly or Forest green is far less interesting than a teal green. There's something more sophisticated yet understated about the teal green Kamasu than would have been the case had Orient gone with a more pure green like Forest or Kelly. Also, I somehow didn't realize that your wrist is 6". I have 6 3/8" wrists and always considered them freakishly small (hence my long standing interest in your channel). It's super helpful that you showed this 41.5" watch on your even smaller wrist. I agree with you the Kamasu looks absolutely great on your wrist. As always, great video. Love your insights and enthusiasm.
Great review, I don't like the off white color of the indices, and wish Orient would lose the day window, and just show the date. But the bezel looks like a big improvement over the old one.
FYI: Mark from Long Island Watch Co. has Orient USA 2's for $199, and SKX bezel kit that fits. In his recent RUclips episode he pop's the bezel off of one and shows just how different the Orient looks with SKX style bezel. $199 is a great deal for the USA-2 regardless.
Great watch, but it think the Ray it's still a better choice. The size 41.5 seems even smaller like a 40mm, and looks great on the wrist. Another option will be the Triton, but they made it too big.
Perfect daily watch. It's sporty but classy. The dark coloring doesn't make it stand out too much but gives it a nice twist. The bracelet (which looks nice) makes noice which is kinda annoying and the crown is too small that's the only negative you can say about this watch.
Great review, and I can only agree on the Seiko/Orient comparison. I normally don't like green watches but this "green" does look good I must say. I kinda have a thing for white-dial divers though, so I'm still hoping they come out with one of those in the future since we can't buy the white-dial Mako USA here in Europe. Cheers mate.
I Have got SKX and Red Kamasu. Definitely the best divers in its price and replacement for skx.. Way more accurate than seiko 5. And pretty much same accurate as SKX. Kamasu Sapphire glass makes the the best in its price range. I think Im going to buy green one as well..
Great watch! The only problem I have is the end links and the pressed metal of the clasp. This time I bought a swiss Jaguar for the same money with solid end links and a milled clasp.
I have this gorgeous timepiece and I bought it on sale for HALF THE PRICE of a "new" DressKX/5KX. The DressKX/5KXhas NOTHING on the Kamasu. I compared them side by side in several shops under different lighting conditions and the Kamasu is superior in every way: It has the Submariner looks, yet it's doing it's own design thing (see the original bezel), it has sapphire cristal, it's rated at 200m, it has a signed crown, the dial is leagues ahead in terms of sunburst, texture and eye-candy, the day-date window is much cooler (and has several languages) and the lack of a beveled chapter ring makes the dial seem larger than it seems. Orient has really upped their game with the Kamasu and the Mini-Neptune/Triton and Seiko were really caught with their pants down. Over the past years I contemplated buying Seikos and wound up buying Orients. Now, my wife and I have a 20 year old 3-star, 2 newer 3-stars (one of them a gorgeous irridescent blue for her), a 36mm Bambino (for her), an Orient star (for the lady) and the Kamasu for me. In my oppinion, Seiko is losing fans in favor of Orient. The reason Seiko is not worried is because they are selling millions of movements in the form of Invicta, Aliexpress brands and micro-brands.
I have the Orient Kamasu with the maroon dial. I love it. Mine runs about +6/day. You failed to mention the the crown is too small and is difficult to screw down.

(I do have a Seiko Kinetic which I give a shake once a week.) I actually wear my Triton every day since I wear it to bed. So, it stays wound. My other automatics do not get worn regularly so I will let them stop. It is just nice to know their winding status at a glance.
I would call it “emerald green.”
As an Irish person I find that offensive and triggering......

This is the first Orient watch that has really caught my eye, and I would love the red version!
Caught ...
Joe Bradshaw thanks, fixed it
I love the macro shots of the watch nice feature of your videos..
Perfect daily watch
I own the red and the green Orient Kamasu. I love them! Keep up the good work with your channel.
which one looks better green or red. I am confused with both colors and not sure which one to choose.
@@securitytalks7154 The red one looks amazing!
Looks great on your wrist! I've had my Limited Edition one since March and looks much smaller on my 7.5" wrist.
Dude, my wrist is 8 inches. Not sure of I should get this.
Muralha same !!
Thanks for the review. I have been after the 'green dial' Kamasu for a while and everywhere I looked it was sold out. Finally located one this evening and placed the order.
Why do people like green dial???
Got one on the way now excited 😊 I'm wearing a spinnaker bradner in Atlantic blue with black leather strap. I LOVE my spinnaker and highly recommend it to ANYONE
The red dial version looks really nice! I just hope Strapcode will make a bracelet for it.
Apparently they are and the bracelets are supposedly going to release around November of this year
@@neo3429 Mind sharing the source? I have emailed both strapcode and uncleseiko about a bracelet for the Kamasu without a positive answer
@@neo3429 pls do share your source.
Both? Hehe that's cool :)
@Musa Uçan which is better i have to choose one.
gorgeous watch you got there! For the specs, I thought it would have been at least around $400. You are right, this could might as well be a one watch collection! Definitely defeated the new Seiko 5.
I have to admit, tremendous review!
I have the red version, its outstanding
That is a stunning watch. In the macro shot of the dial it looks like a very fine orange peel texture, i love that.
Got mine yesterday,it’s not green dial only the bezel, invicta has better lamination at dark,I’m disappointed so returned it. This is more accurate video than others
All, Have you seen what Mark is doing on Long Island Watch? That might be the true replacement for the SKX
@@TimedSquare a okay 😉😄 Greetings from the Netherlands, neighbour!
@Taylor Zoie I'm still totally happy with my red dial but I'm thinking about adding the green dial model soon.
Don't wait. YOLO ;)
@@TimedSquare don't tempt me like this!
Great watch, but that defect on the hour hand would drive me crazy.
Sure enough, it's not as tough as the SKX, I completely agree. But I don't think most WIS need the extra toughness :) Thanks for watching!
I already ordered mine online at a rediculously low price for such an an impressive collection. Ive owned several orient mako before but this one is in a class of its own. I am disabled and not very active so my watches last me decades. I anticipate years of pleasure with this.
Love this video, beautiful dial! Thanks for rotating the bezel again! My OCD was too much lol
This one and the one with red dial are gorgeous, I'm saving to buy both...
Just ordered the black one off massdrop for only 169, great deal. Can’t wait!!!
Erez Kuperman I’d love to be able to do that but I’m afraid of breaking the water resistance. Any suggestions?
@@1517the_year you can take the watch to a watchmaker/watch lab for re-sealing ant testing, if the WR is critical for you.
I have the "Burgundy" dial edition. It's amazing. Really, one of my favourites.
I'm not into red watches but I completely understand the following! There's nothing quite like it on the market.
@@TimedSquare Never say never: also not into red dials but since I've seen the SBGH269 it changed my mind.
@@alexanderlehmann4653 That's exactly what I said on the latest Bark & Jack video! :D
i am planning to add kamasu w/ red dial near my skx007. they will be perfect companions, as they have the same lug width, i can buy several nato and leather straps to match them. i also agree with your "skx replacement" comment. seiko 5 cannot be an skx replacement with its poor WR.
I can't decide, this one or the red dial.
Which one did you go with? I am having the same dilemma right now.
@@VILLAINAIRE just bought the green version myself. In person the green dial is just amazing, so dynamic depending on lighting.
@@JosephWheeler14 That's great, hope you enjoy your new watch for a long long time ahead!
I bought both lol. Great watches. But if you can only go with one go with green. It goes with everything.
@@TheLazy3232 Hi. How is the quality and all of this watch? Is it worth it?
I would never argue with you, this effer is TEAL, and putting it next to a GREEN watch how could you argue? I got the red one, well at least what I identify as red, lol a great review of a watch worth every cent of the price!
One of yoru best vid review and you presented some very strong reasons that is a great-value-for-money watch. Damn, I just bought a new watch a month and a half ago... if only I see this video earlier.
I'm sorry my friend... this hobby is a never ending trap :)
Stunning color way! I bought the blue on the rubber strap, great watch for the $$$
Great review, I don't like the off white color of the indices, and wish Orient would lose the day window, and just show the date.
Is there a way to change the back to a glass/Saphire version to see the movement? It is my first automatic and I would like to see it :)
Ok but is it possible to change it yourself?
Great watch, but it think the Ray it's still a better choice. The size 41.5 seems even smaller like a 40mm, and looks great on the wrist. Another option will be the Triton, but they made it too big.
I think the Ray is lacking a little bit of grit that the Kamasu has. But that's just for my taste obviously - both are great pieces :)
Just got one of these , same color like this one;I just love it! Thanks for a great review!
I have the blue dial version of this love it great every day watch and , a lot of watch for the money .
the blue is goog looking?
Perfect daily watch. It's sporty but classy. The dark coloring doesn't make it stand out too much but gives it a nice twist. The bracelet (which looks nice) makes noice which is kinda annoying and the crown is too small that's the only negative you can say about this watch.
Another great review brother!
Thank you!
The black Kamasu was my choice. I don’t like green but I like the “green” on the Kamasu.
8:30 did you change the position of the bracelet? because it's backwards
Just bought mine in that green. Should receive in about 2 weeks. Excited
awesome review ..... orient made really special color that play very well in light :)
I LOVE it!
I Have got SKX and Red Kamasu. Definitely the best divers in its price and replacement for skx.. Way more accurate than seiko 5. And pretty much same accurate as SKX. Kamasu Sapphire glass makes the the best in its price range. I think Im going to buy green one as well..
I missed the SKX boat. The green is back in stock and on sale. My birthday is next month.... I need another watch like I need a hole in the head!
I compared them side by side in several shops under different lighting conditions and the Kamasu is superior in every way:
It has the Submariner looks, yet it's doing it's own design thing (see the original bezel), it has sapphire cristal, it's rated at 200m, it has a signed crown, the dial is leagues ahead in terms of sunburst, texture and eye-candy, the day-date window is much cooler (and has several languages) and the lack of a beveled chapter ring makes the dial seem larger than it seems.
Orient Makes GREAT watches.
Great freakin watch! I just got mine with the red dial and I'm in love!
