Beautiful set, I opted for the Zagreb '59 - 3.875" King with the same woods and couldn't be happier with it as I particularly appreciate the old soviet style pieces, a different but elegant knight, and replacing the cross with the sleeker ball finial (and if I had to pick something else, I'd go for the other Soviet era Fischer set, the Dubrovnik).
An amazing Set. I like the rosewood pieces too. Amazing handcraft, especially the knights.

Lovely set by the way. I was tempted by that blood rose wood colour. I just had memories of my dads jet black set and wanted something similar. Really nice though 👍
Also, I reckon you could use those serated knights as a weapon if you needed to 😊
Hi Nelson ... do you think it's possible that haven such beautiful knights might make a player subconsciously over-value the piece in a game? Under most circumstances, I'm willing to trade knight for a bishop but on seeing the lovely knights from your new set but immediate thought was that I'd want to keep my knights on the board as long as possible.

I was using an 'ordinary' set to practice on when my son moved his rather more splendid set out to make more room for his girlfriend when she came to stay & suddenly the set I was playing on just wasn't good enough!
Got a new board to accompany the pieces which looks like yours, but have to say my son's looks much better & prefer his less extravagantly carved pieces too, though I find the pieces so wonderful, it is rather a distraction!

Hey Nelson, I have just purchased the EXACT same set , but my Black pieces are Ebony, not Rosewood . I also got a beautiful chess board, with notation . Interesting to note the detachable base on the AMAZING Knights, & the head of the King . All hand made in India, the home of Chess

Ah, I love the Réti. The Tennison is decent at low elos if you know what you’re doing.
By the sheer size of this set, I'd say it's almost impractically huge. Imagine playing this and having to reach all the way across the board to move a piece.

Ugh. Many of those pieces look ugly. They're just wrong. Those extra horizontal ridges round the pawns' heads and the kings' crowns only make them unrecognisable. If the idea was that's where you pick them up, they already have collars for that. The king's crown is supposed to be smooth around the side.
