The Volkswagen Golf wagon - including the hot R version - is about to be axed, but the similarly saucy 2023 Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZx should fill its shoes nicely.
The more practical wagon version of the peppy Cupra Leon VZx hatch packs a 220kW-plus turbo-petrol punch, as John Mahoney discovers here in our first drive in Spain, and will be joined Down Under in 2024 by a more efficient variant of the sporty mid-size load-lugger in the 180kW plug-in hybrid VZe.

Hate the duco it looks weathered and old. The Golf shown looked much nicer in that bright blue. Good value at $70k but will be very expensive to run on 98RON and a heavy foot.
