Well, "gender critical" feminists tend to embrace lesbian utopianism (or at least look upon the idea favorably), so they are probably thinking of the advantages trans women would gain in that future utopia after the overthrow/expulsion of "mankind" (as well as being a subversion in the revolutionary ranks at the present). So the cognitive dissonance isn't quite so blatant (not that that makes their essentialist view of an innate connection between sex and sexual violence any more tolerable, even aside from the trans exclusion).

My sister (who is a feminist) and I discussed TERFs once and she mentioned that she doesn't understand why they exist, especially when they go around hating transwomen, noting that transwomen are "the ones who are transitioning into a disenfranchised group", so for all intents and purposes feminists should be accepting of them (do note that I don't consider that to be a "NAFALT" argument because I agree--if transwomen are going to become women, and women are "oppressed by the patriarchy", not to mention all the very real stigma that trans individuals in general have to deal with, then for all intents and purposes, feminists _should_ be accepting of them).
