The was a cute episode. I love that Celestia has sass and personality. Twilight should have hired other teachers though since all but fluttershy actually have lives.
Fair enough. But in my opinion it wouldn't make sense to not have other teachers especially since in later episodes, the main six are shown to have their own lives outside the classroom. So if the main six are teachers, then wouldn't the students only have classes 3 or 4 times a week?
Fluttershy has a full-time job just managing her own stress. Making sure Angel behaves himself, keeping Discord from breaking reality, and saving the world on a regular basis; how is she not suicidal?
@5:03 Twilight: I can't run a School of Friendship without my friends. THAT is your good reason. And that's actually the flaw the episode addresses: Friendship isn't conventional, thus A Friendship School trying to BE conventional is the problem. Twilight already knew that her friends helped her to learn about friendship, so they are the most qualified to help others learn similarly. Exactly, and to be honest students will be much more likely to listen to a teacher if their not dull and boring. In high school I had a really eccentric teacher, it was a special ed program because I'm autistic, but whenever it was time for history he'd get so into it it was really funny and actually made me remember things from what he was trying to say. So allowing teachers to teach their way is something I do think is a valid point to bring up.
20:14 Oh yeah sure, I make one or two comments offering a different perspective thus encouraging a healthy discussion, and I just get turned into an easter egg? HARUMPH! XD
You can be a hater all you want. Fact is, She has grown to be a main character and part of the Mane 7. And everything she has been a part of has been fun to watch and some of the best things in MLP and has ma de the show bether then ever. And she has more then earned her spot. So suck on that. 😈
titan hades I'm not being a hater. Starlight doesn't fit the role she's been put in due to how poorly written she is. Starlight being a main character is like putting yogurt and fish eggs in coffee.
This is where most people tend to differ from you. Starlight is a very well written character who fits her role. She's usually always one of the best parts in the episodes she is in. Only a blind person couldn't see thst. If you want poorly written, look at a couple members of the original Mane 6. Heck, Rainbow Dash is probably the worst written character in the show,
Ah Hufflepuff, the Applejack of the Hogswarts houses. Gryyfondor is the home of the good guys, Slytherin's the home of fan favorite bad boys like Draco and Snape, and Ravenclaw has Luna Lovegood. Hufflepuff has nothing.
This episode was great for worldbuilding and giving us a side of the show that's only been hinted at so far. I hope the finale makes it even better in retrospect.
I think they classified it as an "extra curricular program", or maybe a camp of some kind, similar to cloudsdale's junior speedsters program. The junior speedsters program couldn't have been affiliated with an EEA school, being they allowed a griffin to participate as a student, and it's implied in this episode that EEA schools don't allow non-ponies. This might also explain why Spike was put in the care of Twilight, though Celestia's motivations aren't very clear on that decision
I guess you could say it would work better as an extra curricular learning experience. And than overtime the more the school gained notoriety the EEA could learn to be more lenient towards Twilight's teaching methods.
I want next movie to be entirely about Starlight and mane 6 would appear like Starlight in this one: for about half a second... I wonder what would be fandom's reaction XD
MariktheGunslinger Um do you know anything about Starlight? I mean Starlight can rival Twilight magically, capable of fighting her to a stand still and that’s impressive considering Twilight’s talent with magic and being an alicorn so yes she could physically beat down an army if she had to.
Counterpoint, friendship is a weapon, it can banish you to the moon or turn you to stone for 1000 years, I wouldnt want to give possible threats that power.
Although in the case of Nightmare Moon, banishing her caused Celestia to lose her connection with the elements, and then they dissapeared. So I'd say whatever guiding force there is in regards to friendship punishes its abuse to some extent. Basically, if you use friendship to fuel banishing magic, you don't get to use the elements anymore because you don't represent them anymore. But if you use it to help, your connection will remain.
"Unless the magic purple pony princess comes and blesses you with knowledge that most five-year-olds already know..." Well, consider the fact that the puzzle she had to solve to become IMMORTAL could have been solved by any five-year-old... oh gosh, that says some really concerning things about Equestria, doesn't it?
Though, isn't diplomacy supposed to be about creating friendships between nations? To put the ideal into terms a child can understand that is. So yes -- princess of friendship IS that. Not that Twilight was ready to take that role right after getting her wings. She had to earn her key first for one thing...
@6:11 Poor Josh, watching a Show that has established Military, but doesn't keep them around long enough to be truly appreciated for more than the one-off episode. I am so sorry, man. (Salutes) Stay Strong, Commander. You have your supporters!!! We thank you for sharing!!
pigifi what do you mean? Equestria has had the Royal Guard since day one. And the Wonderbolts are the Air Force Stunt Team And Threat response. They aren’t very good, but... they’re there.
pigifi you don’t remember the Rainbow Dash Episodes that featured the Wonderbolts? Like when Rainbow Dash went to Boot Camp prior to joining the reserves? When Dash substituted for the retired jealous Member (that was also a Rarity Episode). Then there’s when she official joined the active team and Scoots helped her mess up royally during her first week? And then there’s the episode where she has a week off because new trainees were there and she got called back there while Twilight joined her and when they were finished, the class was over and she has to return there IMMEDIATELY AGAIN. (“I was JUST there!!”) You mean to tell me you don’t remember those episodes??
RedDragonForce2 oh those episodes. They seemed to be another platform for friendship problems rather than actually showing them in action at a good light.
It really sucks that Fiery Joker stopped doing these reviews, i really enjoyed watching every single one. He probably stopped because he either wanted to genuinely move on to other things or realized he'd get copyright claimed if he kept reviewing MLP
A little detail I love about the bit at 11:06 where you can see how each of the different species took Neigh Say's insult. The entire right side of the crew is ready for a fight, the hippogrif looks like he's about to write a sternly-worded letter to Parliament, and Thorax just looks heartbroken.
In part 2 Starlight Glimmer said Twilight is in charge of all friendship in Equestria that sounds Orwellian dystopic to me a place where something that should never be governed is governed.
One day, the Royal Guard will be important. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but someday... And on that day, you know when it will be. As you will hear Josh's cries of joy ring out for all to hear.
I really hope Neighsay’s fears of Equestria’s destruction and Twilight’s hope of it protecting it is foreshadowing Grogar. That would be one hell of a series finale to see the school’s students team up to fight him.
3:00 I'm inclined to agree with the idea that Equestria is a constitutional monarchy, as opposed to an absolute monarchy. This makes sense if we take into consideration what we know about Celestia.
"Other Races exist, why don't they integrate?" And despite this, we _STILL_ don't have any of the races from Seasons 1-2 in the show: Zebras: Except Zecora for some reason who is friends with Applebloom and has information on Dragons that Ponies themselves lacked... and is NEVER made relevant again in the Main Timeline. Diamond Dogs: Never seen or mentioned since _A Dog and Pony Show_ despite them living in spitting distance to Ponyville. Thestrals/"Bat Ponies": We've never seen any of them outside of the Lunar Guard from Luna's reintroduction episode of _Luna Eclipsed_ and in the Nightmare Moon Timeline. Buffalo: not ever again focused on since _Over A Barrel_ because Native Americans analogies are apparently terrible? I'm Cherokee-Scottish and even *I* don't get the Buffalo problem that's there. Nevermind that StrongheartXBraeburn WAS the only other Cross-Species ship besides Sparity that the Fandom loved. And the addition of Yaks to the show just throws even *more* confusion to the Buffalos' absence. Minotaurs: except for Iron Will. And that's all I'm willing to say about Minotaurs.
14:31 I think Twilight's less-than-dramatic freak-out was due to the possibility of freaking out so much that she burned herself out. Like those times when you want to continue freaking out but you simply don't have the energy to do it.
16:12 - 17:25 The problem with this argument is that these “accredited overlords” focus more on ideological conformity and less quality education, the kind needed to teach students skills they will need in the workforce. So if I was an employer, I will not be interested in hiring those from these “prestigious” schools, because all they have learned is how to become useful idiots for those who seek control over the individual, and most likely do not have the skills and talents I would be looking for. And I’m seriously tired of the racist strawmen in these shows. WE GET IT! RACISM IS BAD! TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE ALREADY!
KyProRen yeah nay say got roasted!....for some reason it makes me think of the brony fandom aka us making the show great again...girls thought we were ruining it but we’re not we’re making it better.....that’s why we finally settle our differences and just enjoy what we watch
18:39, I guess going to war about the kids running away seems pretty trivial, but wouldn't they technically be considered ambassadors? They are, at least WERE representing their respective nation and are closely related to each nation's leader. One might say they left on their own volition but it's a thought
Yes, that is a good point. We only see one of each creature, at least only one focused on. We saw a lot more ponies. Pretty sure, Silverstream may be related to one of the rulers. Plus Thorax personally came with the changeling. If anything we should be considering the fact, there was only one, and how bad that looks on the ponies' part. These creatures trusted Twilight, and now vulnerable members of their races are missing. Think about it, Thorax's first friend was Spike, and he only came with one changeling. Same with the dragon ruler, Spike's friend, and still only one. Again, Pinkie Pie's friend, still only one. Perhaps only one of each race felt safe, and again, that looks really bad on the ponies' part.
I really liked this episode. I like how it actually gave Starlight a role that was actually important in the overall ending, and also, the entire season is making Starlight a much more likable character (I already love her though) It does make sense that the Chancelor would be a villain this season, I still think it'll be Chrysalis or Cozy Glow. This entire season is even shaping up to be one of the best so far! We got more Celestia, more Starlight, and more of the species from the movie! I don't think it'll beat season 4 as my favourite though. Also, Josh, if you're reading this, I just wanted to say that you are one my favourite youtubers, and your videos inspired me to start my own channel where I critic movies/MLP episodes in the same way you do with these videos (Totally not a copycat) Your videos are what helped me to 'come out' as a brony to my family and close friends by seeing that some bronies can be awesome and cool, instead of cringy and stupid. So, yeah... Thanks!
when it comes to the matter of getting employment and going through colleges after school, that's something that wouldn't actually apply much to Twilight's school. Her classes aren't about teaching practical skills like what our schools do, but instead about teaching friendship so it can be spread far and wide. This is exclusively about bettering everybody as a whole, and not about preparing for a career.
"Creatures that don't have our best interests at heart" My friend and I both had different reactions to this line: (we watched the epusode together and she told me not to say anything, here's what happened) My friend: I swear this guy's a jerk to the point he outshines a lot of the people we know. Not to mention the fact that he clearly believes that ponies are the ONLY creatures that are allowed to have friendship Me: *laughing* Oh my lord this is exactly like American history, I'll explain, Samuel Seabury was sent by King George The Third to expand King George's belief that the Americans didn't deserve freedom and trust me my friend if you never paud attention to history class or listened to Hamilton you won't understand where I am going with this but... Okay in the song Farmer Refuted (fifth song in the soundtrack) Seabury claims "Heed not the rabble who scream Revolution they have not your interests at heart" which makes you think he is just trying to avoid the war but in reality he was just delaying the inevitable seeing as Hamilton gets the crowd cheering for the revolution lets not forget the fact that they were mad about being taxed for a hot beverage (enter the Boston Tea Party)
this episode is making me question things like was the EEA around back when Celestia and Luna were kids is so does that mean that starswirl create the EEA because it was stated that starswirl was there teacher in shadow play if so that would explain why Celestia did not try to make peace with the yaks
Twilight: This school will help prootect equestria Neighsay: OR DESTROY IT!!! Guess what happens in the finale? Neighsay was right about friendship used as a weapon. But not in the way that he feared.
I think the instantly jumping to war kinda makes sense. It was Celestia that reached out to the other nations to begin with, apart from hippogryphs we dont know if they reached out to the other nations from the movie, like Capper or someone else from Abyssinia, Kludgetown who definitely could do with some "friendship lessons" (but would also most likely be the school troublemakers), maybe the ones we see were the only ones who did respond and they were apprehensive about it themselves which is why they each only brought one student to represent them. Point is they were all asked there by the princesses then some stuck up unicorn with a superiority complex starts dishing out insults? of course tempers would flare. They were all just going to leave peacefully (but angrily) until their charges all went AWOL. With tempers already high it was no wonder accusations started getting thrown around and poor Thorax, the look on his face when Ember turned on him. Like you said earlier, they were all thinking of their people first before thinking about other nations. on a completely unrelated note, i would love to know what the relations are for the young 6. Silverstream is Niece to the queen (ok? some continuity issues there) and Gallus could actually be Grandpa Gruffs grandson or some relation to Gilda. Not sure which part of Equestria Sandbar is from or if he is completely new or an ascended background pony, Is smolder related to Ember or just a younger dragon, shes clearly older than spike but doesnt seem to be that much older and she seems to be younger than garble's crew who are "teenage dragons" is Yona prince rutherfords daughter? and who does occellus belong to? she must be one of the younger changelings so is she one of Chrysalis last brood or the oldest of a new generation?
24:26 "they instantly wanted to go to war" .....*flashback to Fallout Equestria's politicians and royalty wanting to go to war with Zebras" huh.....and Equestria takes 1 step closer to Fallout Equestria xD
When it comes to the other races threatening war so easily you need to remember that Equestria had essentially kidnapped; the Hippogriff Queens daughter, the Dragon Lords cousin, the Changeling Kings niece, the Griffon Elders grandson and the Yak Chiefs/Moguls? niece/daughter? Basically, the blood relatives of the rulers to all of Equestrias neighbouring countries, which kinda is a declaration of war in itself.
Vulpinechaos They didn’t kidnap them though they ran away to be with their friends and here’s the thing: THEY KNOW THIS. They know they ran away to be with their friends so declaring war on Equestria for something they know isn’t their doing is incredibly stupid for them.
@@ryancarson6962 Either way, the rulers' wards were in the ponies' care when they disappeared. Whether they ran away or were kidnapped, I don't think it would make a difference to them. Parents are just like that sometimes, especially when panicked.
Honestly, I would have thought that Twilight, of all ponies, would know that friendship is something you can’t learn through a book or in a classroom. I think it would have been a better resolution if they created a friendship club, or daycare. Maybe save the issue with integrated schooling for another episode.
damn......josh actually made me like the episode for the theme.......i guess mauler was right.....themes are awesome but doesn t make the product less stupid or heavy handed. meh..ponies.
Waaaaait a second... Ponies were nearly wiped out by windigos because they didn't understand friendship. If other races still haven't figured it out, why are they not all popsicles?
Yeah the basic premise of the school is not only dumb because the school doesn't seem to teach any practical educational subjects but takes up all the time one would normally spend in learning them otherwise (see the episode where the CMC try to get in) and because of the entire core concept of trying to define and regulate such a highly subjective, personal and circumstantial thing as making friends, but the entire pitch reeeeally sounds like Twilight is promoting the Equine's Burden of uplifting those poor, ignorant savages. Claiming that literally no other of the clearly social species in Equestria knows about friendship is just idiotic because they'd have killed each other long ago. Also how do the hyppogrifs (?) seem like they lack friendship again ?
cbb88christian I’d like that as much as Josh, but they’ve actually been showing up less with time. You could convince me that Celestia dissolves the military at some point.
..."and you have modern public education!" Thank you! It's especially bad in my area where standing up for yourself against a bully equates you to BEING the bully!
I wanna hug Thorax. Of _all_ the leaders, he leads the race that presented the _biggest_ threat to the ponies (of those present) whilst under the command of Chrysalis. And he... doesn't get angry. Screw what people joke about Chrysalis, he is _actual_ Love Bug. "More needles than a salty HALO 2 player." Top pun. Better if it was HALO 3 or 4, Needler's better in those games, despite 2's Dual Wielding.
Teacher to teacher, please work on your spelling and grammar. "Dual" for two objects, "duel" for a fight. Trust me, literacy and language mastery is WAY more important than the education system gives it. Those skills will help you look better to the parents and students, get your points across in a variety of ways, and may help you with admin and the board. Good luck in your endeavors!
*heres school daze review* wow time for them to meet the most racist pony in all of mlp! 14:31 shes like me when im upset my voice gets sqeaker intill cant talk
Neigh Say has the wrong motives for what he says, but he has good points. The dragons have pillaged and plundered them for centuries. The hippogriffs turned their backs on them in their time of need. The yaks tried everything in their power to declare war on them. The changelings invaded them TWICE. And this IS right after an invasion.
My problem with Twilight’s school is my problem with most superhero or magic schools in fiction: we only ever see these kids learning one thing, and one trade. We have no idea if these students are actually being prepared for the world by being taught math, or history, or foreign languages. Do the students attend normal schools for this stuff, or are they just being taught one thing?
Yeah the thing about Equestria not being a despotic monarchy with Celestia and Luna ruling over everything and bending the whole kingdom to their whims has been confirmed outside of the show already. I remember during the Presentable in Periwinkle IDW Comic (Or "How Shining Armor met Cadence" part 2) they confirmed that Equestria HAS A CONGRESS
yeah, this is were i question what the writers are doing to Twilight. i know her friends are great and they gain a lot of experience in the whole friendship thing, but they can't be the only ones twilight knows to help run her school. this isn't a club house where only group members or friends are allowed. does she not know anyone else who might be more qualified to be a teacher. she's just limited herself as far as i see . i thought twilight stretched out her horizon. as for Pinkie she can teach, she can take the most difficult thing and make it simple. she did it in equestria rainbowrocks when twilight explained how she was going to get back to the human world and no one understood it until pinkie simplified it for them. however, like the rest of them pinkie has a job so...twilight didn't think this through.
14:30 I always saw this part as she's been crying so much she lost her energy and was too exhausted to have a full blown freak out. But that's just my viewpoint 😅
You know what I think is twilight wasn't freaking out because she wasn't scared or nervous or worried that's when she has her less than zero freakouts no she's depressed and sad right now because it may not be one of her worst fears but her purpose was she felt like she felt that asked the princess of friendship she had failed her purpose as
To be fair to the other races, pretty much all of the kids were related to leaders of their respective nations. This is a serious problem if they can't find them, and evidence is pointing to those darn ponies
Is not technically "only for unicorns", but rather for those who are both "talented on magic" AND "able to cast spells" using the same methods and techniques that unicorns (the latter a restriction based on the capacity of the teachers [all but Celestia: unicorns] to transfer their knowledge; not really on the students themselves). Flurry Heart is an obvious example; but any Kirin foal living in Equestria (future S8 episode) should be able to enter if it fits the other requirements. It is implied that Mage Meadowbrook (an Earth Pony) was able to cast unicorn spells using enchanted items [basically magic wands]; even making some her own (like one of the many that was combined by Sunburst in the S6 opener). -> With those skills and capability, she would had surely entered Celestia´s School if it existed by then... [but by that time she was also already a mare, so not fitting on the "young" category anymore].
Well she said in the episode that the thing happening in the episode happened once before only with unicorn, pegasus and earth ponys. I admit there can be understood different things but how I understood it is that the pony races were educated like separately based on their race and just later they were allowed to go to same schools. But something I noticed even when I was young and I think it was either season 1 or 2 was that canterlot had alot of unicorns I didn't say many earth nor pegasus ponys so I thought it was that there were just alot of unicorn kids cause canterlot is filled with unicorns.

7:57 am i the only one who thought that twilights school resembles old European school facilitated in foreign area's designed to have those foreigners go to said school, lose all awareness of their own culture and way of life, and in turn fill those foreigners heads with European ideals.
2:59 I would say more like the late stage British Empire. If Equestria was like the modern British Monarchy than she'd be literally relegated to photo ops and tourist attractions.
Okay, while we're on the topic of schooling, I would like to mention their are kids who beg for some sort of life-threatening accident to happen to them or even straight up try to commit suicide to avoid going to school because its so stressful, and instead of the system being like "Hey, maybe we're doing this wrong", they're like "Oh stop being lazy you ungrateful little brats" THE SYSTEM IS FLAWED
Twilights friends are nicer than me. When my ex friend kept trying to make big plans she just assumed I'd help with despite my job schedule I tended to bluntly tell her no because I had bills to pay. Whenever she tried to bring up her plans to open a little 'family' shop and me and her other friends could work there I'd tell her no. When she wouldn't stop badgering me she told me I crushed her dreams when I told her she had to realistically be able to offer the same likelihood of staying open for long term, offer competitive benefits, pay and hours as my current job.
BEST MLP season 8 review yet... WHY, Josh...WHY?.... Your reaction to the two parter opening episodes...... "SOMEONE, give this amazing man a crown!" I just had to.... 😅😹
MariktheGunslinger Star Wars fans do more bitching and moaning than the entire SJW movement and Democratic National Convention COMBINED. And that’s coming from a Star Wars fan.
To be fair, I personally think the 'not knowing friendship' thing is actually a bit more of a callback to the days of old. The Kingdoms of Equestria/The Pony World are agrarian or thereabouts, with the dragons literally seeming to be made of hermits that only come together for various events, the only thing separating them from non-sophent animals being their ability to talk. Meanwhile the Yaks, Seapony/Hippogriffs, Changelings, and even the Griffons to some degree do have governments, but are completely isolationist in their policies. As such, the other races know how to get along, but only within their own spheres, and only in the same way all the time. Twilight, and the ponies, by contrast, are expansionist. They're always expanding borders, and thus, have to learn how to get along with not only each other, but the locals and the world as a whole. That said, this does make them allegorical for European explorers, and I'm fairly certain that's not a can of worms the show will ever open.
1. The map expanded to account for the new lands OUTSIDE of Equestria. It was an Equestrian only map before, but changed when Twilight and the others its basically tracking left. So yea. I think it'd be obvious that it needed an update. 2. We've established racial tension. Remember in FMA Brotherhood, (spoilers if you haven't seen the show... Sorta) where an Ishvalan child was killed by an Amestrian Officer? It started a full blown Civil War that lasted... Quite a while. But the war did not start JUST because of that child. No, the racial tension was already high, the dead girl was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. Now they may not have died but they were lost and missing in a foreign land. To make matters worst they're children, and practically representatives of their lands and cultures. (Hell, that sea pony girl is related to royalty, right? She's SkyStar's cousin?) Do you see what I'm getting at here?
19:37 I was trying to think of a line like that for Ocellus' Puckwedgie talk. That was WAY better than ANYTHING I could come up with. Also, I see a lot of Bushwoolie influence in this design. Like they're Hybrids of Bushwoolies and those things from the Critters franchise.
4:00 According to my cousin, who is a teacher, all you need is to graduate collage - regardless of degree - and you can teach. Unless that's just her school. Can anyone else verify this?
Depends on the state/country and the type of school (state versus private). Finland for instance requires a Master's degree (except for vocational education) as well as extensive specialized training in teaching. Plus continuing education while a teacher. However the country decided several decades ago that having an educated populace was an important national resource so teachers are well paid, have a great deal of autonomy and trust, and are respected and it is a difficult career to get into (the top teaching schools accept only 7% of their applicants). I think most US states require some specialized training beyond a basic bachelor degree but it can be pretty minimal and this is for state schools. Private schools have more leeway. Also given the shortage of teachers in many areas some states are dropping the minimum standards.
No we all know why Hasbro didn't have Tempest come back for Season 8, because they say they couldn't afford to have Emily Blunt for the tv show which is bs when you consider the fact they got her for the movie.
Movies have significantly higher budgets than TV shows do. This is why all actors aspire to be movie actors, and why once an actor makes that jump they almost never go back.
Not only do movies have bigger budgets, but that’s also a single pay check! They pay her once for the movie and they’re done. But for a tv show they have to pay her by episode or appearance, which comes out to costing a lot more!
E1ite Yoshi Well if you are curious what happened to Tempest you can check out the next MLP Comic because its specifically about her and what she did after the MLP Movie.
Yeah, the fact the show can afford both Tara Strong and John Delancey on a consistent basis is amazing and still have enough money to have guest appearances like Weird Al and William Shatner a bit mind blowing when you think about it.
19:38 imagine sitting in a public place where everything is quiet and out of nowhere you hear an inhuman sound (that’s supposed to be a laugh) and turn to see a girl trying to hold in her laughter

Can’t wait for Lily Peet to rant about how this episode promotes
Gasp. You said a swear!
Starlight has been on a great role. And has really grown into being part of the Mane 7.
titan hades I've been so happy since Starlight joins. She's officially more than Sunset 2.0
titan hades No, she really hasn't.
Heck, Rainbow Dash is probably the worst written character in the show,
My Hogwarts House is Hufflepuff. And I never knew that Joshscorcher was a fan of Harry Potter.
briansivley2001 same here
briansivley2001 hufflepuffs for life!
briansivley2001 mine too!
I’m a Ravenclaw.... somehow..
This episode was great for worldbuilding and giving us a side of the show that's only been hinted at so far. I hope the finale makes it even better in retrospect.
Doesn't the EEA know Twilight Sparkle have Spike and Discord before the school was closed?
I am not sure if the school of friendship would count really as a school as they are learning... to be good people. so it's more like... a club.
*DON’T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME INTENSIFIES*
I like how they acknowledge the movie is canon despite the fact starlight barley did anything , basically just appearing a background character.
She's an emotional problem solver, not a physical one.
I want next movie to be entirely about Starlight and mane 6 would appear like Starlight in this one: for about half a second... I wonder what would be fandom's reaction XD
So if Tempest grows friendship on the other side of the world. The map grows and crushes Twilight in her throne.
Man you are everywhere.
"Unless the magic purple pony princess comes and blesses you with knowledge that most five-year-olds already know..."
Well, consider the fact that the puzzle she had to solve to become IMMORTAL could have been solved by any five-year-old... oh gosh, that says some really concerning things about Equestria, doesn't it?
Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here!
1 AM... totally worth it
Connor Freeman oh boy, 1am!
Iron Blazer456 was totally worth it(he says as he passed out while watching it)
DJSKirby64 sadly you weren't wrong
Man you are a fan
Is no one going to bring up that Neighsay looks like Doctor Strange?
ArcticKaiju I am! 😁.
Or that the EEA Rule book, has the Ultramarines seal on it
Funny you say that since the man voicing him also played the good doctor in the 90's.
The Codex Astartes does support this comment.
ArcticKaiju coincidence
You know what? You’re right. Twilight is more of a diplomat than a princess.
Though, isn't diplomacy supposed to be about creating friendships between nations? To put the ideal into terms a child can understand that is. So yes -- princess of friendship IS that. Not that Twilight was ready to take that role right after getting her wings. She had to earn her key first for one thing...
Elderscrollsswimmer I’ll buy that.
@6:11
Poor Josh, watching a Show that has established Military, but doesn't keep them around long enough to be truly appreciated for more than the one-off episode.
I am so sorry, man. (Salutes) Stay Strong, Commander. You have your supporters!!! We thank you for sharing!!
RedDragonForce2 which episode?
pigifi what do you mean?
Equestria has had the Royal Guard since day one. And the Wonderbolts are the Air Force Stunt Team And Threat response. They aren’t very good, but... they’re there.
RedDragonForce2 I meant what was the one-off episode you were talking about.
pigifi you don’t remember the Rainbow Dash Episodes that featured the Wonderbolts? Like when Rainbow Dash went to Boot Camp prior to joining the reserves? When Dash substituted for the retired jealous Member (that was also a Rarity Episode). Then there’s when she official joined the active team and Scoots helped her mess up royally during her first week? And then there’s the episode where she has a week off because new trainees were there and she got called back there while Twilight joined her and when they were finished, the class was over and she has to return there IMMEDIATELY AGAIN. (“I was JUST there!!”)
You mean to tell me you don’t remember those episodes??
RedDragonForce2 oh those episodes. They seemed to be another platform for friendship problems rather than actually showing them in action at a good light.
3:12
"Pinky, are you pondering what I am pondering?"
B1G B0SS I think so Brain, but who would want to pierce Brosnan?
I think so Brain, but why would we try to fly using fishnets?
"I think so, Brain. But where are we gonna find enough reference material on such short notice?"
I think so Brain, but why would anyone want to dance around with a spider on their head.
I think so, Brain. But isn’t Rainbow Dash already naked?
2:02 "After all you should probably make sure your country is ok first before trying to meddle someplace else."
HEAR THAT AMERICA!?
One day, the Royal Guard will be important. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but someday... And on that day, you know when it will be. As you will hear Josh's cries of joy ring out for all to hear.
I really hope Neighsay’s fears of Equestria’s destruction and Twilight’s hope of it protecting it is foreshadowing Grogar. That would be one hell of a series finale to see the school’s students team up to fight him.
If I had any faith left in this show, I'd say that wouldn't happen.
This is so funny in hindsight
Well, you're half right.
3:00 I'm inclined to agree with the idea that Equestria is a constitutional monarchy, as opposed to an absolute monarchy. This makes sense if we take into consideration what we know about Celestia.
"Other Races exist, why don't they integrate?"
And despite this, we _STILL_ don't have any of the races from Seasons 1-2 in the show:
Zebras: Except Zecora for some reason who is friends with Applebloom and has information on Dragons that Ponies themselves lacked... and is NEVER made relevant again in the Main Timeline.
Except for dragons, griffons and changelings.
Flutterbat doesn't count as a Thestral, i don't think. Her battiness was an accident
Allegedly buffalo were cut for being racist lmao
What about cows? In season 1 they are smart enough to talk
We also don't hear any sheep talking ever again which is super weird
14:31 I think Twilight's less-than-dramatic freak-out was due to the possibility of freaking out so much that she burned herself out. Like those times when you want to continue freaking out but you simply don't have the energy to do it.
16:12 - 17:25
The problem with this argument is that these “accredited overlords” focus more on ideological conformity and less quality education, the kind needed to teach students skills they will need in the workforce.
Fun Fact: Tempest has a comic specifically for her that shows what she did after the MLP movie.
21:52 - 22:05
OOOOOOOOOOH!!! NAY-SAY JUST GOT *CELESTED!!!*
......I just realized how dirty that sounded. :/
NCfanboy1 Don't do a Molestia joke, don't do a Molestia joke, don't do a Molestia joke...! 😵
First of all; don't tell me what to do.
Second of all; I forgot "MOLestia" was already a thing, so that's just a coincidence.
“World War Friendship” that should used for every friendship drama every known to man
I really liked this episode.
"Creatures that don't have our best interests at heart"
My friend and I both had different reactions to this line: (we watched the epusode together and she told me not to say anything, here's what happened)
My friend: I swear this guy's a jerk to the point he outshines a lot of the people we know. Not to mention the fact that he clearly believes that ponies are the ONLY creatures that are allowed to have friendship
Me: *laughing* Oh my lord this is exactly like American history, I'll explain, Samuel Seabury was sent by King George The Third to expand King George's belief that the Americans didn't deserve freedom and trust me my friend if you never paud attention to history class or listened to Hamilton you won't understand where I am going with this but...
Twilight: This school will help prootect equestria
Neighsay: OR DESTROY IT!!!
Guess what happens in the finale? Neighsay was right about friendship used as a weapon. But not in the way that he feared.
And it was a pony who caused this
I think the instantly jumping to war kinda makes sense.
24:26 "they instantly wanted to go to war"
.....*flashback to Fallout Equestria's politicians and royalty wanting to go to war with Zebras"
huh.....and Equestria takes 1 step closer to Fallout Equestria xD
Tempest became a missionary for friendship.
Apple cider? Check
Trial mix? Check.
Comfy bed? Check.
I'm all set.
@@ryancarson6962
Either way, the rulers' wards were in the ponies' care when they disappeared.
One day a military force in this show will do something productive, maybe. Hopefully
cbb88christian I’d like that as much as Josh, but they’ve actually been showing up less with time. You could convince me that Celestia dissolves the military at some point.
cbb88christian
yeah when that order of ODST's comes in.
cbb88christian Lol Eat shit!!!XD
Well there was that one time in the alternate universe... but that's bout it.
+Night Shade No u
That facial hair...is amazing.
Tor Lorel ikr?
Uploading at the last minute of the first day of the month, classy.
“Starlight! What are you doing? Don’t pollute!”
(When she threw the book in the water)
When you are a night owl
Me: ok is there enough thing before I sleep?...
(Josh post something)
Me: sleep can wait Pones first!
NaySay reminds me alittle bit in those certain characters you meet in Fire Emblem games that you know you can't wait to see them fall.
20:33
My first time watching the episode I paused after this line and said: No! Bad show Bad!
..."and you have modern public education!"
Thank you! It's especially bad in my area where standing up for yourself against a bully equates you to BEING the bully!
Just like One Bad Apple
I wanna hug Thorax.
Of _all_ the leaders, he leads the race that presented the _biggest_ threat to the ponies (of those present) whilst under the command of Chrysalis. And he... doesn't get angry.
Screw what people joke about Chrysalis, he is _actual_ Love Bug.
"More needles than a salty HALO 2 player." Top pun. Better if it was HALO 3 or 4, Needler's better in those games, despite 2's Dual Wielding.
*giant smile when Josh talks about teachers in a positive light* my magic im gonna get my degree done in 4.5 years, as a duel major. Which is hard
Still weird that zecora is the only zebra
10:23 This is the best kind of reference humor. And I love reference humor anyway.
Literally any time My brother asks why I feel different then normal. "Who are you, and what have you done with (insert name here)"
My problem with Twilight’s school is my problem with most superhero or magic schools in fiction: we only ever see these kids learning one thing, and one trade.
A.all that we have on chancellor Naysay is teaming up with Flim and Flam
B.are you sure MLP is low on the fourth wall,Pinkie Pie exists
quality timing josh
8:52 It's more like a false confidence built around pleasing the higher-ups.
14:30 I always saw this part as she's been crying so much she lost her energy and was too exhausted to have a full blown freak out. But that's just my viewpoint 😅
You know what I think is twilight wasn't freaking out because she wasn't scared or nervous or worried that's when she has her less than zero freakouts no she's depressed and sad right now because it may not be one of her worst fears but her purpose was she felt like she felt that asked the princess of friendship she had failed her purpose as
7:05, right here, and that made learning pretty much hell for me.
To be fair to the other races, pretty much all of the kids were related to leaders of their respective nations. This is a serious problem if they can't find them, and evidence is pointing to those darn ponies
Is Celestia still running her unicorn only school?

Ah yes, have a character that needs to be the villain for some reason, make them racist.
. . . Low key pissed that they call her "Tempest" instead of her REAL name that's actually awesome. 😤
It was probably at her request.
Jason Ringo To be fair im sure a good amount of people would prefer the name tempest.
Takisan111 yeah fizzlepop berrytwist is a bit of a mouthful
Sarah Morley
So just say "Fizzlepop" and be done with it. Problem solved.
Jason Ringo Yeah, it's like how starlight glimmer is called starlight sometimes. It seems like it's a normal practice in equestria to shorten names
7:57 am i the only one who thought that twilights school resembles old European school facilitated in foreign area's designed to have those foreigners go to said school, lose all awareness of their own culture and way of life, and in turn fill those foreigners heads with European ideals.
OH BOY THREE AM
I understood that reference...
The smile on my face I go from watching this will carry me through the day. ride on, Josh.
*sees question at the end of the video* I took an online test and apparently I'm in Hufflepuff.
Welcome to best house ^-^
2:59
I would say more like the late stage British Empire. If Equestria was like the modern British Monarchy than she'd be literally relegated to photo ops and tourist attractions.
@24:43 We got a Marine down!! Corpsman! we need of 400cc's of Coffee Stat!!
So the critters are now.....cannon? That is scary.
Good thing I was up at 1 am!
Okay, while we're on the topic of schooling, I would like to mention their are kids who beg for some sort of life-threatening accident to happen to them or even straight up try to commit suicide to avoid going to school because its so stressful, and instead of the system being like "Hey, maybe we're doing this wrong", they're like "Oh stop being lazy you ungrateful little brats"
THE SYSTEM IS FLAWED
Josh, it's 1 am, what the heck XD
gotta love those slap-stick montages. I think we need one for silver quill
im watching the day before my first final....now it s 12....
You look good in red, Josh
BEST MLP season 8 review yet... WHY, Josh...WHY?.... Your reaction to the two parter opening episodes...... "SOMEONE, give this amazing man a crown!" I just had to.... 😅😹
To answer your question, Josh; _Star Wars_ fans. 100 percent. The other two options are just adorable at worst.
MariktheGunslinger Star Wars fans do more bitching and moaning than the entire SJW movement and Democratic National Convention COMBINED. And that’s coming from a Star Wars fan.
MariktheGunslinger Lol You look like you like it Hard and ablack,Hahahah!!
She's SkyStar's cousin?)
Do you see what I'm getting at here?
19:37 I was trying to think of a line like that for Ocellus' Puckwedgie talk.
That was WAY better than ANYTHING I could come up with.
Also, I see a lot of Bushwoolie influence in this design. Like they're Hybrids of Bushwoolies and those things from the Critters franchise.
I hope they make chancellor Naysay an actual villain in the future!
Why?
Also given the shortage of teachers in many areas some states are dropping the minimum standards.

josh... who is that?
If this was filmed at his house, probably one of his brothers. At college, then maybe a roommate?
His big brother!
After my review, I love seeing your's too, Josh. Would love to work with you on a future episode.
That had a bigger budget though so they could afford bigger talent. TV budgets are a lot smaller.
