Late comment is late, but about Soarin's nickname 'Clipper' and Rainbow's comment about him 'being as fast as a ship', a clipper is a fast yacht-like vessel from the 19th century and it was considered one of the fastest of its time
I think 'Clipper' is more of a video game reference to clipping something and going of course. It's possible that he clipped on one of the obstacles and flailed around, probably close to the ground, and crashed.

Oh, that 'dead language' bit is wonderful in hindsight In season 7, we actually get a closer look at a dead language called Old Ponish; we even hear some characters speak it.
I feel this episode would've covered more bases (maybe even made it slightly better) if the writers included a scene where Rainbow goes to have a private talk with Spitfire, and explains that she has negative impressions of "Rainbow Crash" because of personal reasons. Spitfire reads between the lines, realizes that Rainbow was bullied, and explains that EVERY Wonderbolt goes through hazing. Rainbow still flubs at training, the other Wonderbolts still call her "Rainbow Crash", and being called that name still hurts. The rest of the episode follows unchanged. But it does shed light on the bullying/hazing issue early, and could put past episodes in a new light.

I don't have any military experience, but I still thought the episode was good. There aren't many shows that illustrate the difference between bad teasing and friendly ribbing. This episode does it well. Those impressions of her friends were painful though.
groan inducing but i agree with calliope i used to be teased alot as a kid 2 and its nice to see the show dicuss the difference between bullying and ribbing. her impressions were good tho. her aj and pinkie were pretty accurate
Is Josh petting a Firebrand plush? So basically, Josh is stroking himself in front of his showering roommate. Why does that sound so bad coming from me?
I served three years in the Israeli air force and I always find Scorchers descriptions of the U.S military so interesting because our military cultures are so different. For example, we didn't have nicknames, people were usually calling each other by their surnames. Second is that there was a lot less machoism. Part of it was due to the fact that most of us didn't really wanted to be there so boasting on what a great soldier you are would not make you look good, another part was that being a team player is a huge part of the IDF soldier ethos, and then there was the fact that at least in the Airforce we had a pretty equal ratio between man and woman. The fact that none of us could quit (barring forging a diagnosis for physical or mental disability ...Or taking the permanent way out, but I don't want to get there.) also meant that people really needed to respect others limits and boundaries, keep all your mental fortitude for the job itself, you can't get out of doing your duty just because you don't feel like it, but that doesn't justify pulling more bullshit over it. So if someone is an introvert and needs his pesonal space or is really sensetive about something, you respect that. I did get to work closely with fighter pilot in my time there, and while they were cocky and boastful and macho, and teased each other a lot. So yeah they acted a lot like the wonderbolts, but when we got three newbies to the squad they didn't act like Rainbow Dash but took some time (and encouragement from the veterans) to open up and pick up more confident attitude. If I'd critic this episode from the point of view of my experience, I'd say that Spit Fire should have picked up that things aren't right sooner and had the talk she had with dash in the end of the episode by day two if not day one.
That's nice, but at the same time, your government, especially the current one is brainwashing you to think that murdering people from another town just to illegally steal their land, German Nazi style no less, is immediately ok because they aren't you and that apparently makes them less than and that the natives of this stolen land deserve to die, and yes Hamas is no better it seems as if he too relies on hate to stay in power
Sad is, I hear the people, the regular civilians of both sides of this war, actually want peace and it's a shame that whoever is controlling the two countries doesn't.

Okay, I'll admit, I was bullied a lot when I moved from my original hometown to where I am now and even in my old hometown, I was bullied. Once in sixth grade, just a few months after I first moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I was called a troll, because some kid in my class back then thought that I was from Lower Michigan. It hurt my feelings so badly that I ran to the girls' bathroom, bawling my eyes out. I have since grown from that and just recently, I realized who I sympathized with the most from MLP: Fluttershy. She and I are both introverts, we both are afraid of not pleasing people, and we both like animals a lot. The main thing about this monologue, however, is that Flutters and I both hold a lot of hope in our hearts that things will get better. So, there's what I've gotta say, hope you don't mind that I said all this.
zeldaed123 My 6th grade math teacher would scream at students on a regular basis and blame it on "contractions", (though she wasn't pregnant) and she'd stop classes to bitch and moan about how Trayvon Martin was "killed in cold blood".
I've seen some pretty awful teachers too. At least the one here was TRYING to stifle her laughter, and not just rolling on the ground. Also, Mr. Snarky: Your teacher example is why there's such a push for school choice and more charter schools, so that teachers like that are less likely to get/keep their jobs.
Yeah I'm with you and Josh. It was painful. It was unfunny and possibly a new level of stupid for Rainbow. Even if she could possibly think that was a good idea to begin with, when others consistently reacted with annoyance, why the heck didn't she stop? The show needs to stop going for the easy joke with RB and just making her stupider.
THAAAANK YOOOOOOOU!!!! Though "Brotherhooves Special" made me want to wash my eyes with bleach. And similar reasons why I don't like both episodes, RD is finally a Wonderbolt, cringey shenanigans ensue. Big Mac finally talks probably more than he has throughout the whole show, and he's also doing cringey shenanigans.... in a LUNA F*yay*ING DRESS!!!!
The way army motivates people to push harder didn't really work for me. All it did was make me more aggressive and violent. I find it strange I still somehow managed to force myself through it.
Well.. I've had history with suicidal depression, and army did nothing but bring that back worse than before. So yeah, target practice with weapons was pretty damn risky for me. There was another guy that did actually attempt suicide, and another one that succeeded. So yeah...
I think the army's method of training can sometimes go a little too far. They expect people to be complete turn off their emotions and become mindless killing machines when needed. It's understandable since you have to get used to seeing some pretty messed up stuff and you've got to be able to deal with the worst human kind has to offer, but expecting people to just completely forget what they've seen and be like machines is wrong. There's a reason why vets are a higher risk of PTSD, traumatic events have a tendency to linger in the mind for a long time, you don't just get over it.
Trust me, that is false. I assure you that Basic Training is neither difficult or dehumanizing. We re encouraged to use our heads and think independently. The army just expects you to be wise enough to do as your officers and NCOs tell you and resilient enough to handle the difficult parts maturely.
5:44 It may be common knowledge, but it still doesn't stop adults from actually doing it. Seriously, I've seen people nearly get run over for not looking both ways.

I have to actually call shenanigans on this episode (Newbie Dash, not the review-though I did figure this out by watching the review). Even if Rainbow looked both ways before crossing, Soarin and Fleetfoot were WAY up in the clouds and then flew down to the runway, so Rainbow still wouldn't have seen them until she was on the runway, because looking left and right won't help if the danger is ABOVE her
After how hard GoldenFox and ToonKryticY2K were on this episode in the Roundtable Podcast, It's nice to see two people have a more positive prespective to the episode. Also, Am I the only one who thought the part where Rainbow Dash imitates her friends was more funny than cringe-y?
I may of find the scene about Dahs intimate her friends criengey, but I feel like Will and Josh easily trumped Toon, Fox, and Keyframes problems with the episode. Kinda odd since after watching the episode I stay optimistic til I hear what others think of it and then judge from the perspectives to tell if it was a episode that was favorite, great, good, ok, meh, bad, worst, or awful from what I have seen in it. and Newbie Dash was either meh or just ok in my taste. at least it was better than Scare master and Bats.
Benicthehedgehog I dont see how they "trumped" our problems. Its an opinion on an episode. Its not like we were stating facts and they were fact checking us. This episode has kinda softened on me for a while on its moral and ethics, however I still feel it was a clunky written episode that didnt know how to handle its screen time, which is my biggest problem with the episode now a days
Keyframe Productions I understand Key. and I'm sorry if my comment sound offended on ur guys opinion. I do agree with you though of it being clunky. i am just meh with the episode being a mix on me from knowing it from how Toon saw it all too well of it bring up the past, to the cringe that Fox hate, to now getting what it was meaning from Josh and Will. Episodes like this made it rough for me for the first time after seeing them.
I actually enjoyed those moments because I put them under "so bad it's good" category. This was the first time I literally laugh myself out of a chair after all because I was thinking of all the shipping jokes, especially with the Raridash part involving Soarin lol. So no worries there.
To add to it, this is for the hating viewers out there. Rainbow Dash is not a bad character and I can list reasons why. 1. She wants her dreams to become reality and she has goals in life. She has the will to get it. 2. As a member of loyalty, she is willing to give up her dream to protect others. She is kind of a childish saint. 3. She is a girl of great confidence and she is not afraid of too many things. She will fail, but try again to succeed. (It's almost as if many of you hate those who won't give up. People love Fluttershy, and she is a humongous sissy of a scardy cat. Love the weak and hate the strong.) 4. She does have a hard time learning what is right or wrong, but maybe she got hurt and she basically forgot her lesson that day. No one is innocent because you all do the same thing. But that is my own piece I said. Don't take this too seriously.
I thought this episode was ok. The slap stick was good and the cringe wasn't bad. There's only one point I didn't like. Spitfire said they all had nicknames, but no one was referred to by their nicknames except Dash. If the point of the nicknames was to bring familiarity and camaraderie, then they all should have been called by their nicknames. The way it was, it did seem like they were just picking on her. I know why they did it, so Dash could learn at the end after she'd been stupid, but still.
As josh said that is the point-toughing up the new guy so to say-but maybe they could have balanced it out by subtly calling the others by their nickname and simply saying rainbow dashs nickname more often to try to toughen her up.
I just really don't like how she's just supposed to be "okay" with being called by a name that mentally scared her childhood. It may just sound like a silly name to most people, but nobody can decide how badly it hurts to have such a name stapled to her forehead
I actually liked this portrayal of Spitfire in this episode. It was actually a lot closer to my head canon of Spitfire. She appears stern and focused with a very dry sense of humor. But when she can tell something is bothering a member of the Wonderbolts or if one of them is acting strange, she confronts them. Telling them either to knock it off or cool it, so that they don't cause danger to the team or themselves. Like an actual Captain should act.
Totally agree. This was a great episode for her. Rainbow Falls left a bad impression on me with Spitfire, but this episode actually made me like her again.
Josh talking about his nicknames in the military and the band brought back memories of my band years. I was called shotgun, because I accidentally launched the slide of my trombone tyring to get to the 7th slid possition quickly, thank God it didn't happen during a competition.
One thing I found with more time, is how the cringe can work in it's favor. Like say, I can't believe I'm saying it, with max from parenthood, the cringyness works when you see how it could be 'you' who's the cringey one, and makes the impact all the more stronger as the individual realized how they may spud in RL.
13:00 And that's why AJ is Team Mom. Also gotta say this is why I love your videos. You bring in a new perspective and new points I probably wouldn't have caught the first time around
May be I'm not deep enough in the fandom, but I wish I could hear someone talk about Pinky Pie's tendency to say hurtful things. It always seem to be that she was to self absorbed to consider other ponies feelings in the moment. This seems like a major character flaw that should get its own episode, but everyone seems to blow it off.
It's not being 'self absorbed' it's that she is simply very oblivious at times. Gets a bit to lost in her own little world to realize what her words and actions are doing. Combined with, when she's excited, she tends to forget that not everypony thinks like her, and so tends to say and do things she would see as harmless, forgetting how others might feel.
Fans have addressed it once or twice. Like, it all really depends on the writer to get that trait in-character. The time she drove Fluttershy to tears when she was clearly backing away and upset by what she said? Incredibly out of character, and it's the fault of the writer. What was this, season 2? Yeah, I think so... But the time she talked with Twilight in her castle? When she accurately named all of Twilight's misconceptions, and then REALIZED her mistake and later helped solve the problem? That's closer to how Pinkie ACTUALLY is.
Boxman Jones It was season 4.. and that was freaking AKR, the writer who has proven time and again to be the one to truly GET Pinkie, and by far the greatest Pinkie Writer they have. No that was not OOC for her, that was perfectly in character, just a combo of all her worst traits coming to the fore at the same time.
7Seraphem7 Every writer has a low moment. It's not in-character for Pinkie to be THAT oblivious. Oblivious, yes. But she isn't STUPID or IGNORANT to the feelings of those around her to the point where someone RUNS AWAY CRYING and she's just like 'What?' That isn't in-character. Being a bit slow can be part of her character but not to that extent.
Boxman Jones Except that was in character, she CAN be quite oblivious, and have trouble realizing when she is over doing it, she understood that what she had meant it to be was a compliment, and did not get how Fluttershy took it the wrong way, or why she was reacting so badly to it. Everything there made sense and fit Pinkie Pie, it was just her worst aspects coming to light. But, noponies' perfect.
For those wondering what Spitfire's nickname could be, it's most likely "Skid Mark". Why? Because skid marks can happen when you poorly handle your brakes or stirring on the Runway. However, it is also a name for an embarrassing thing to happen in the bathroom, which I REFUSE to go into detail about. THAT'S what I think it might be.
You always make me thank a lot better of an episode or game Josh. Thank you for being an awesome RUclipsr and I'm looking forward to what we'll see next.
I still can't shake this feeling like the episode implies that you can treat you friends/teammates however you want and if they don't like what you're doing its not your problem, especially if you can wright it off as a tradition. In the end Rainbow Dash succeeds at the air show, except for the terrible decision she made at the end of it, despite the apathetic and/or oblivious nature of her new team that only served as an obstacle that increased her chances of failure. If It was for that sake of testing her emotional strength then it was done at the worst possible time since they all seemed to want the performance to go well, but only reduced there chances because apparently nicknames are a non-negotiable requirement no matter the situation.
I LOVE this review! XD You two should collab more often, you work super well together! I like your points about the solid moral, which would definitely redeem this episode for me in terms of showing it to my nieces and nephews. Really the only reason I personally couldn't watch this episode repeatedly is because I feel physical pain when other people embarrass themselves, and that entire chunk of Elements of Harmony Impersonations was like being crushed in a car cruncher.
It bothers me that people make it seem like it's Rainbow's fault. The other WonderBolts weren't anywhere in sight or hearing range when she started walking across the runway.
I love you guys but Note To Self: NEVER drink anything while watching Josh's videos. I got black tea with a dash of milk and sugar all over my US history homework. I loved the ending and this made me laugh more than I have in a while. Thank you Josh
I can also relate to this episode (even though I'm not in the military (there is still the possibility of joining through selective service)). I spent four years in my high school marching band. And learning a full show takes a substantial amount of time. Side note; people in marching band should be admired (I freaking HATE the stereotype that says that marching band is for nerds), because marching band is actually a lot more challenging than it looks for a few of reasons. 1.) You practically get your butt handed to you during practice (it also helps you stay in shape) 2.) During performances, you have to maintain proper marching technique, playing a memorized set of songs, maintain complex formations, and march to the correct rhythm all while facing the audience's general direction (there is a lot more that goes on from a marching band member's perspective) So there are a few reasons why people in marching band should be admired. Not a lot of people can do that. ... Wow. Just typing that makes me miss my high school Marching Band (East Lyme High School). I was with them since I was a freshman. At first I didn't like it. In fact, I was considering the option of leaving. But I ended up staying, and boy, am I glad I did. I made a number of long-lasting friendship bonds. In the East Lyme Viking Band's prime, it was HUGE! So big, in fact, that it rivaled the UConn Marching Band in terms of size. Then, over the years, their numbers slowly dwindled down. This year, the band is at 20 members altogether at most. I'm afraid that this may be the last season for the East Lyme Viking Marching Band.
To be fair to Rarity and Twilight, they aren't military. Especially Rarity. She probably hasn't the first clue how military or even para-military groups operate. As for Twilight, her brother was captain of the guard, sure, but I somewhat doubt she paid much attention to his social experiences as a recruit. P.S. Your pain at Rainbow's various impressions gives me life.
I love this episode. Did people really say that she regressed? Not at all! It was a huge step forward for her to be able to take a disparaging nickname, laugh at herself a little, blend in. She's always needed to build herself up constantly and never let anything in that hurt her ego, and really, it left her the most insecure member of the group. This was a real step toward actual self-security.
...Wait, what was Spit Fire's nickname..? Something tells me that I'm going to regret asking, but I'm too far gone thanks to the Internet (partial blame goes to the anime community), but too late to back down.
I really didn't enjoy this episode because it felt like Rainbow Dash was being bullied by the Wonderbolts and that just made me relive my terrible time in eight grade when I was bullied, and this joke didn't have enough funny jokes to help "the medicine go down" so to speak
I honestly can't enjoy this episode overall. I mean, I love the lesson given at the end along with the plot idea and was glad to see Rainbow Dash finally becoming a wonderbolt, but this episode was so cringing to watch. It's a weakness of mine, I can't stand scenes in any TV show or movie where a character makes a fool out of him/herself, I just cringe at it the whole time.
The "everyone gets bad nicknames in the military so they're all the same" argument doesn't hold water to me when the nicknames become personalized. "Newbie" is fine because everyone's the newbie at some point and everyone's on even footing there, but do you really think Soarin's going to be as hurt by his wing-clipping nickname as Dash is by the one she has a personal, painful childhood memory for? No. I realize the Wonderbolts weren't aware of that, but that's why you don't give mean nicknames to people you don't know. I've got plenty of friends and a mother who were all in the military, and they'll be the first to tell you that the way the military does things is often not the best. Most of them say it's done irreparable things to them that they wish they could take back. There are people who get stuck with nicknames they hate for YEARS, and some of the Wonderbolts were just being mean-spirited. I've yet to see an episode that makes me get why Dash looks up to them so much.
Come from a family that served… never plan to follow in their footsteps… mostly cuz I literally have already been broken down so much by my family and school and all that… that if I even thought about all the shouting in my face… or the fear of making one tiny mistake being further drilled into me… I'd probably have a mental breakdown…
The big problem with how Newbie Dash and how it uses Hazing as a plot element, MOST people don't know or really understand the concept of Hazing....But EVERYONE knows what Bullying feels like, and the line between the two is VERY easy to blur. We only find out LATER that the Wonderbolts meant no malice or spite by constantly calling her "Rainbow Crash", and if you're not familiar with the nuances of Hazing, you're not going to see it as anything other than malicious teasing. It didn't help that they used the "no we were just giving you the standard newbie treatment" explanation as a TWIST at the very end, so they were expecting you to not see it for good-natured hazing and to see it as cruel bullying. The fact that we're seeing this from Rainbow Dash's perspective, know her backstory, and have no reason to doubt her experiences, means 99% of viewers won't be able to relate to the Hazing experience and won't enjoy seeing it happen to Rainbow Dash.
20:05 Josh, you were in the military. You cannot possibly be angel-level innocent! (I know, I know, it's for comedic effect. Speaking of, loved your horrified expression and props for the realistic toppling.)
To me, it all depends on how others use the nickname that's important. If they use it in a playful manner, then it shouldn't be a bother. The Wonderbolts and Flight Camp fillies however, were using her nickname in a demeaning way. Doing that doesn't help you become better. All it does is hurt your confidence
@@carlosmedina1281 So, there aren't as many drill sergeants yelling and/or insulting recruits as much anymore? Good...our troops put themselves through enough hell already, the last thing they need is insecurity
I think my major contention with the episode comes from them putting the reveal of the other names at the end of the episode. I'm sure most would agree that had that been shown earlier rather than just mentioned, a lot of the hate would have been left behind. But because of the placement of the reveal, it also does put the appearance of military culture in a negative light. Especially for kids who have had bullying issues, it could make, in their eyes, nothing more than another extension of that trauma and put them away from ever joining the military or even worse, denouncing those that do take volunteer. I just think that if the episode was handled a little better, it could have been greater than what we got.
This video is so brilliant, I actually watched it twice in one day. I would also love to see you do more videos like this. Intresting that you pointed out that the other mane six was´t helping. That´s like a invisible lesson. Know when your friends don´t know what you can do. None of them knows how the wonderbolts works. Sometimes you gotta take all you have learned from your family and friends and put them at side when going trought something new.

I could've sworn Spitfire said something about an oven when she told Rainbow Dash her nickname. The only nickname I can guess from that is "Flank Roast."
18:36 - 18:42, I laughed so hard :p I'm a bit two-way about this episode for personal reasons, but I liked the idea of it being about Dash fitting in on a team where the performances are meant to be uniform and in sync, rather than a team (Mane 6's Elements of Harmony) where it was a team of individual traits. Neither team is the best or worst to be, and it was good to show Dash's growth to that. As for the hazing...ehhhh it hovered on the line sometimes of being pure mean, but it was also good to see that come to a close too, and calm down.
Ah, poor Josh at the end. He and Willstanator (is he the guy who was the original voice of Ed and The Cape in Ed+'s Adventures, it sure sounds like him) brought up some good points. I just think that this episode was trying to tackle something way out of its comfort zone (a show about friendship is probably the last place you'd expect to find talking about hazing and newbie shaming) and as a result of picking a brand new writer to do the episode it ended up sort of overslimpifying a very complex real life issue that's still being questioned and debated to this day.
Oh come on! Why does everybody think that Rainbow Dash impersonating her friends was cringeworthy? That was like my favorite part of the episode and i nvere cringed at it in the slightest seriously what's wrong with you people?
Twilight impression was hilarious. Pinkie impression was awkward. Don't get me started on Rarity. Not even Applejack either. But Fluttershy was kind of harmless.
As far as the Latin thing goes, it's worth remembering that based on the Hearth's Warming play the pegasus used to dress like Romans too. It could be that pegasus spoke Latin, earth ponies spoke old German and unicorns spoke, I don't know, medieval French?
I think the reason Spitfire was "acting uncharacteristically" was because that herself in the military. When in the military, you have two sides of yourself, your soldier side and your civilian side. Actually, the same could be said for almost anywhere; your school side and your home side, your work side and your vacation side, etc.
Josh it was such an honor to play rock band with you at bronycon. Also meeting zain was awesome too. Asking me to play through the fire and flames with you guys was the best part of the con for me. Thank you for a memorable con and I hope I see you all next year. God bless Firebrand.

Same here. I honestly didn't think Newbie Dash was that bad. In fact, I really enjoyed this episode. Even without a military background, I can relate to Rainbow Dash and her trying to fit in with the crowd.
You couldn't have pick a more perfect time to release this. I just dealt with some crap that really badly effected me and seeing this though not cheered me up completely has made me feel a bit more better. Thanks for that Josh.
Also, while we're reminded of the Grinch, I think Nostalgia Critic summed it up best: "Is it me, or are the Whos just *WHO-rrible creatures?!* They show us the true meaning of Christmas in this feature? Even the teacher is laughing! Dude, what's up with that?! It's not that funny, lady! You're as contrived as those brats!"
THANK YOU! These are the very same points I've tried making to friends who hated on this episode (Former navy here). I just never could get it through to them... Tho I will admit Dash's imitations of her friends forced me to fast forward, I hate cringe humor.
I didn't know that was a thing defending something so hard your opinion doesn't matter anymore it'll be okay Josh well done this was the funniest review I've seen from you so far you two played off each other well!
The part where Dash imitated the rest of the Mane 6 was equal parts hilarious and internally painful. On the outside, I was Pinkie Pie (laughing my ass off), but, on the inside, I was Fluttershy (shrinking, wanting to hide under a rock, and begging for it to stop).
The more you know
Like what happened in Rainbow Falls, which caused the Wonderbolts to seek Dash out in the first place?
@@TennoWolf Clipping isn't necessarily a video game reference, especially when it comes to flying. When aircraft clip things, it's usually a tip-blow but it's catastrophic.

He's literally stroking his ego.

That's because there IS no difference!

Star Gamer 3120 Your teacher sounds like a politically concerned version of Yukari from Azumanga Daioh 😋
I think I need to stop watching your MLP reviews, because I'm afraid that one of these days I'm going to die laughing.
Rainbow Dash _needed_ this episode.
And I don't have any military experience.
I just don't like the part where she pretends to be the mane 5. It was cringy. I hate cringy.
I thought it was the funniest thing ever.
None of Your Business can I agree with you with that
Yeah I'm with you and Josh.
Big Mac finally talks probably more than he has throughout the whole show, and he's also doing cringey shenanigans.... in a LUNA F*yay*ING DRESS!!!!
lol, "Mane 5" . . . if you don't know why I'm laughing, you've not been in the fandom long enough. ^-<
(hint, "best background pony" and apples.)
The way army motivates people to push harder didn't really work for me. All it did was make me more aggressive and violent. I find it strange I still somehow managed to force myself through it.
So long as you can control it, I don't see a problem.
Well.. I've had history with suicidal depression, and army did nothing but bring that back worse than before. So yeah, target practice with weapons was pretty damn risky for me. There was another guy that did actually attempt suicide, and another one that succeeded. So yeah...
* Hugs *

I have to actually call shenanigans on this episode (Newbie Dash, not the review-though I did figure this out by watching the review). Even if Rainbow looked both ways before crossing, Soarin and Fleetfoot were WAY up in the clouds and then flew down to the runway, so Rainbow still wouldn't have seen them until she was on the runway, because looking left and right won't help if the danger is ABOVE her
8:23 Can we just take the time to appreciate the loop of the teacher laughing? It's sooo precise.
The slight Hamilton joke is what really got me. Well played, Sirs, well played.
Alex Ramirez I was kind of mixed on it.
The rarity one was my favourite. I'm just going to go hide in my shopping corner, but hey! XD
Gotta admit, Dash immitating rarity was super funny and accurate.
Love the weak and hate the strong.)
"I sense the presence of a morally offended artist."
"God bless them they tried"
You guys are so funny.
Just loved all of Josh's reactions. The slow smile, the loss of innocence, and finally the puppy dog sadness. Wonderful collab with great insights.
Boxman Jones
It was season 4.. and that was freaking AKR, the writer who has proven time and again to be the one to truly GET Pinkie, and by far the greatest Pinkie Writer they have.
No that was not OOC for her, that was perfectly in character, just a combo of all her worst traits coming to the fore at the same time.
7Seraphem7 Every writer has a low moment. It's not in-character for Pinkie to be THAT oblivious. Oblivious, yes. But she isn't STUPID or IGNORANT to the feelings of those around her to the point where someone RUNS AWAY CRYING and she's just like 'What?'
That isn't in-character. Being a bit slow can be part of her character but not to that extent.
Boxman Jones
Except that was in character, she CAN be quite oblivious, and have trouble realizing when she is over doing it, she understood that what she had meant it to be was a compliment, and did not get how Fluttershy took it the wrong way, or why she was reacting so badly to it.
JOSH I NOW RESPECT YOU EVEN MORE BECAUSE MARCHING BAND

1.) You practically get your butt handed to you during practice (it also helps you stay in shape)
2.) During performances, you have to maintain proper marching technique, playing a memorized set of songs, maintain complex formations, and march to the correct rhythm all while facing the audience's general direction (there is a lot more that goes on from a marching band member's perspective)
So there are a few reasons why people in marching band should be admired.
Now to figure out whether josh likes Hamilton, or just found a sound clip reflective of the moment

Josh's sad puppy noise was perfect! XD
...Wait, what was Spit Fire's nickname..? Something tells me that I'm going to regret asking, but I'm too far gone thanks to the Internet (partial blame goes to the anime community), but too late to back down.
**whispers Spitfire's nickname to you**
"Clit Fire", maybe? I dunno.
S**tfire
it's implied to be a sex joke. so honestly Spittake yeah knowing doesn't make it better does it.
I'm guessing "Spitroast" or something
I really didn't enjoy this episode because it felt like Rainbow Dash was being bullied by the Wonderbolts and that just made me relive my terrible time in eight grade when I was bullied, and this joke didn't have enough funny jokes to help "the medicine go down" so to speak
it would have been so much funnier if the final explosion at the end was just a tiny explosion instead of the normal one, because of the ending
19:50 Ok Thes, mind my asking, but what the heck did you tell Josh to make him traumatized?
I honestly can't enjoy this episode overall. I mean, I love the lesson given at the end along with the plot idea and was glad to see Rainbow Dash finally becoming a wonderbolt, but this episode was so cringing to watch. It's a weakness of mine, I can't stand scenes in any TV show or movie where a character makes a fool out of him/herself, I just cringe at it the whole time.
Wait... "In the Navy"? But...you're a Marine... (scratches head)
Is there a song featuring the Marines that is as upbeat?
Good point.
The Marines are a branch of the Navy
And they generally hate being reminded of it.
There's a saying that I've heard from my Marine buddies.
"Marines are the Department of the Navy... The MEN'S Department"
I wanted to thank you for your service in the force I couldn't tell you on your channel but I wanted to thank you for being in the force
Even though I still don't like that episode, I really enjoyed the review! You and Will did an awesome job! :D
She did not forget rule number 1 the second time, she was practically halfway through the runway when they showed up flying through the runway
The military has actually been cracking down on hazing if I recall since it’s trying to better protect the mental health of its soldiers
@@carlosmedina1281 So, there aren't as many drill sergeants yelling and/or insulting recruits as much anymore?

@@sadlobster1 No they're still yelling but they just aren't hazing like they used to.
Am I the only one offended by all the hate they were giving Dash? Yes... Okay...
I absolutely love this episode, and consider it to be RD's best or second best overall.
I was having a boring day thanks for cheering me up, funny as always Josh.
Intresting that you pointed out that the other mane six was´t helping. That´s like a invisible lesson. Know when your friends don´t know what you can do. None of them knows how the wonderbolts works. Sometimes you gotta take all you have learned from your family and friends and put them at side when going trought something new.
Josh... I love your videos. I turned a brony and you were the first person who ever watched review the episodes. out of all the other people that I have watched you were and still remain my favorite. Please don't ever stop. I will literally pay you $100 per episode.
1:32 I'm reminded of Jim Carrey from The Grinch, and I love it.
I could've sworn Spitfire said something about an oven when she told Rainbow Dash her nickname. The only nickname I can guess from that is "Flank Roast."
Guys, Josh is like the most innocent upset puppy ever.
18:36 - 18:42, I laughed so hard :p
I'm a bit two-way about this episode for personal reasons, but I liked the idea of it being about Dash fitting in on a team where the performances are meant to be uniform and in sync, rather than a team (Mane 6's Elements of Harmony) where it was a team of individual traits. Neither team is the best or worst to be, and it was good to show Dash's growth to that.
As for the hazing...ehhhh it hovered on the line sometimes of being pure mean, but it was also good to see that come to a close too, and calm down.
17:55 ....um, Josh, Will quick question... were you guys reading my mind? because I was literally humming that song up until that point. xD
So many DBZ Abridged references.
5:23 Says "HERE ARE 10 OF THEM RIGHT NOW-"
Yet the text says "TOP 5"
Little did josh know. He would regret laughing at that
I think the reason Spitfire was "acting uncharacteristically" was because that herself in the military. When in the military, you have two sides of yourself, your soldier side and your civilian side. Actually, the same could be said for almost anywhere; your school side and your home side, your work side and your vacation side, etc.
YES! I'm not the minority!!!
Lightning Bliss but your OC is
Lightning Bliss no your the minorority
Josh it was such an honor to play rock band with you at bronycon. Also meeting zain was awesome too. Asking me to play through the fire and flames with you guys was the best part of the con for me. Thank you for a memorable con and I hope I see you all next year. God bless Firebrand.

Rule 3: break the 4th wall (pop culture references, references in general, break laws for physics, do whatever pinkie pie does/ do what pinkie pie does/ does her (pinkie pie’s) thing
Confirmation bias is a beautiful thing, isn't it Josh?
i wonder if the Baltimore Convention Center has ever changed their name to "Balitmare"
In all honesty, I never really disliked the episode. I just saw it as okay.
Thanks for that Josh.
only bad thing about the episode is the cringyness if rainbow copying others.
Yeah, it's a good episode with 1 big minus point (the imitation scene).
that was not cringey. it was hilarious.
I love how your sexist joke actually *has* pissed a lot of people off on Tumblr. I've seen quite a bit of bitching on it. Well done! XD
To quote BlackGryphon from Everfree Northwest 2016
"Spitfire's nickname?" [yes] "Swallow. You know, like the bird."
Shitsfire... because her first meal as a Wonderbolt was 12 alarm chili, and she was up half the night dealing with the "ring of fire".
6:13 then comes Shadow Play
The part where Dash imitated the rest of the Mane 6 was equal parts hilarious and internally painful. On the outside, I was Pinkie Pie (laughing my ass off), but, on the inside, I was Fluttershy (shrinking, wanting to hide under a rock, and begging for it to stop).
Loved this collab you two and I agree with most of your points ^^
I swear your videos (not including the "Taking to Seriously" videos... much) keep getting funnier and funnier for every entry.
