@@papapeethehunks The Americas won 14/19 Trump-era titles, out of which 10 were Latinas (we're including Justine Pasek because she completed the reign instead of Oxana) so they won a lot and that created a huge MU pageant fandom in that region. But now they don't win - not to mention the insult in 2015 - so they keep trash-talking the IMG era online when they should be telling their candidates to focus on public speaking and having a purpose in life instead of just looking hot in a bikini. This is all factual so don't know what upset you?

I know it's a business so there is a particular target market so the same arguement can be said of the Philippines where there is a huge fan base. this is over 20 years ago, tv stagings and the philosophy of the pageant have changed...perhaps for the better. Let's accept it and appreciate the new for what it is. You'll always have this to reminisce tho
@@ronfarkas It became a cheaper vulgar show after landing in Trump's hands. It became more a Playboy sexy bitchy thing. The mistake in crowing Miss Universe back in 2015 is a tangible example of it. However, it is the reflection of our society today...

I remember watching this on RPN-9 in the summer of 1999. My siblings and I were all shocked at the same time excited when Philippines was called.
A good mix of finalists:
Two Asians - Philippines, India
Three Africans - Ghana, Botswana, South Africa
One European - Spain
Four Latin Americans/Caribbean - Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Venezuela
MU1999 - Philippines almost won its third crown here but Botswana simply stopped her by giving the best answer in the final q and a among the final 3
MU2012 - This time the Philippines gave the best answer among the final 5 and almost won its third crown but USA declared winner for some political reasons
Trump simply doesnt like the Philippines at all!
Botswana was ahead of Philippines throughout the whole pageant. She placed higher than her going into the top 5. She scored higher than her in the top five question. I mean it wasn't like Botswana overtook her at the last minute. She was ahead of her throughout the whole pageant. Also, Philippines fell in the prelims. She should not have been in the top 10.
As for 2012....Philippines nor the USA had any business being the final 2. They were probably two of the weakest final two in the history of the pageant. Miss Philippines that year was not attractive. That is why Miss USA won. Miss USA may have not been able to walk and as bland as a celery stick but she is pretty. That is why she won. Beauty Trumped that night.

This is how all semifinals should be announced moving forward. It should not take 1 hour to announce contestant names.
This is true, and it's because prior to the mid-2000s the Miss Universe Organization pageants were the standard 2 hour long. Imagine that they were able to do all the competition segments including semifinalist interviews, plus the little filmed segments about the city or country, and then include all the commercial breaks as well! Then it became 3 hours, but it was an extra hour just to cater to the commercials and companies.
