Yep. I got the old 3DS XL back in Christmas 2014. The New 3DS XL came out in February 13, 2015 so yeah. D: But I have the New 3DS XL now.
Same thing happened to me but luckily I have a job and get paid weekly so getting it was no problem.

I had a regular sized 3DS, and bought the New 3DS XL when it came out, and I'm really glad I did. Going from the smaller 3DS to the XL was an AWESOME jump. Better graphics, bigger screen so I can see more.. it's great!

If you don't have a 3DS and want one, get the New 3DS (XL or not), if you already have one, the upgrage is not necessary (got myself the new 3DS XL when I already had the 3DS XL and regretted it, not much of a difference to be honest : / )

I used to own an original aqua blue 3DS, then I pre-ordered the New Nintendo 3DS XL because of the new features, exclusivity of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and also my touch screen didn't work properly. It also seemed that my original 3DS was a bit too small for my hands, I was much more comfortable with my New 3DS XL.
To me,
-If you have a 3DS or 3DS XL:
Don't upgrade unless you want that power or you have amiibo. The 3D works but is still just a gimmick.
-If this is your first 3DS console:
GO FOR IT. Or as Shia Labeouf would say, "DO IT!!" It is worth it if you are a newcomer.

It's totally worth it, i bought 3ds xl a week ago and i haven't used my psvita ever since. I was amazed by nintendo's 3d tech the only thing that kept me away from picking up 3ds was selection of games but i was so wrong man it has some of the coolest games

I got one for my birthday a couple of years back, and I love it. I've bought SO many games and themes for it, and the only issue I've had with it is that my L button is broken up a little, but it still works. The transfer from my old Yoshi 3ds took about 8 hours but it was worth it, and now it's my favorite console of all time. I recommend it, but an old 3ds, 2ds, or new 2ds are good too.
Got one of these on the way. I'm getting the lime green model that comes with Super Mario World pre-installed. I fucking love that game.

I really like the New 3DS XL and I personally feel the upgrade was worth it for me. Though I still wish they released the original size New 3DS in North America, the XL screen is growing on me. In my opinion, having a C-stick an ZR and ZL buttons are a minor plus, while the improved 3D is a MAJOR plus. I found myself playing my old 3DS in 2D nearly always but now I can finally enjoy all of these games in 3D without the headache and/or having to hold it an exact distance from my face. Also, original DS games play more clearly than they did on the old 3DS.

My main problem with the system aside from the lack of an AC adapter, is that there are games being developed for it that will not even work on the current 3DS. So why not call it something else? Now people are either going to be forced to upgrade or not get the new game or buy the new game without understanding that it won't work on their current 3DS or 3DS XL.
DSi was slightly confusing. New 3DS is way worse.
Exactly there are going to be a lot of pissed off parents and upset kids this year. Another thing that makes the no AC adapter worse is using 3rd party Chargers void your DS' warranty. And after working in retail for 7 years now I can tell you that retailers will run out of first party chargers before they run out of the new 3DS.
The only game we know about that's exclusive to the system is Xenoblades which is also on the Wii/Wii-U, i highly doubt Nintendo will abandon 50+ million 3DS's, the DSi also had some exclusives but i couldn't even tell you what they're called lol.
It's a slippery slope. It's one now but in 2-4 years It could be more. The fact that the hardware specs have been upgraded to be able to make games that can do more should be an indication of what their plans are. Imagine if if Sony or Microsoft decided to upgrade the ps4 or Xbox Ones specs in 4 or 5 years so current games can run more smoothly and had an exclusive game that only work on the new system. People would be livid. my problem is just call it something else because a lot of people are going to be confused and pissed about this in the coming years but mainly parents.

I think all future 3DS games are still compatible on the older version, just run a bit better on the new one. Now with the inclusion of the second 'analog stick' and shoulder buttons, that could pose a problem.

I think it is a must have. I have the New 3DS XL and my judge is 10/10. Even though with the NEW 3DS you can change patterns and designs, I just like using bigger screens and it is a better control for my hands.

In my mind the new 3DS is the best console ever made. Nothing can touch it's perfect form factor and function. The best games around and in 3D is simply stunning! We're blessed having Nintendo doing what it does best, everything games.

I love my 3ds xl however its form factor is shit. Sure, it fits in my pocket however I would much rather have it not make my hand go numb.
What bugs me is the 3DSXL is actually too massive. Sure the huge screen is like a godsend compared to the tiny 2DS and old 3DS' ones, but it also makes it super massive and difficult to put in a more confined space (say your pocket or a sports belt), and it feels more tiring trying to hold one than the old one (you'll also feel the same way when you play the old 3DS after having hours on a new 3DSXL, the old one feels so good when you hold it in your hands).

If you have a huge digital download Library, this is good. I only get a new one when mine breaks, so having this speed of downloads is awesome.
I'll stick with my normal 3DS XL... can't really see those actual controls being used in any games aside from Monster Hunter and Xeonoblade...

Xenoblade Chronicles on the old 3DS would be too laggy to play. The controls are not the only factor, the 3DS is known to be a very weak handheld (I didn't say BAD handheld, I said WEAK) and it is pretty obvious considering that Xenoblade Chronicles 3D had to sacrifice resolution and some other things in order to make it on a handheld.

Old 3DS games aren't guaranteed to work right at the higher clock speed, so the games run at the older spec, but with some simple softmodding you can make them work at the New 3DS clock speed and with some vigorous softmodding you can utilize the L2 cache

Definitely. More processing power and don't need to squint or move the screen close to your face. Only bad parts are the aforementioned lack of ac adapter and the microsd card location

I love it but i need to pick up a case for it because it's the special Hyrule Edition and i'm super nervous about finger prints, haha. but yeah, Canada for some reason just has a ton of these still chilling on the shelves, haha. It was on sale that day and i traded in some games as well so in total i only had to spend 158.00 on it which in american is 120.00 believe XD

I suggest getting the new one, 3D is a gimmick, but if you really want 3D, go for the new one. But you should also know that there are games exclusive to the newest version rather than the old 3ds
+Flying Grayson (This is probably to late, but Imma leave it here anyways) There are a lot of stores who sell the 3ds Xl at approximately the same price as the new 3ds xl, and if not the same, it's usually not much of a price gap between the two and I would suggest to wait another week to get the extra bucks and go for the new model, just for the future proofness and the extra features

The thing that bugs me is that the little part sticking out from the top screen of the 3ds is gone, so if you close it, there's a visible slit down the middle
To be honest, I'm kind of stuck when it comes to which 3DS is the best. I really like the changeable faceplates and mat finish of the regular New 3DS, but I also LOVE the slick, premium design of the New 3DS XL. I'm also a huge fan of some of the special editions of the New 2DS XL, so it's just up to which one I can find for the cheapest second-hand.
I know it's been over 2 years on but did you manage to get the one you wanted? I only very recently upgraded from a dsi, and nowadays there's only about 20 bucks difference between all the new 3ds models so I just went for a metallic blue XL and I do not regret it one bit. Still such an amazing handheld to this day!

It's 2018 and I want to buy a new 3DS XL, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. I don't wanna buy it and then six months later, Nintendo stops providing support for it. Does anyone know if it's a good idea to get this in 2018?
I'm excited because this means prices on used 3DS originals and 3DS XLs will be going DOWN. I still haven't picked one up, and I was eyeing the 2DS for a while, but I may pick up a 3DS used from a local game shop or on Craigslist pretty soon.
I liken the difference between the 3DS XL and the New 3DS XL (man, that's a dumb name choice, but what're you going to do?) to the difference between an iPhone X and an iPhone XS (where X is whatever the current model is). Marginally improved internals, some new features, but largely unchanged. I think I'll stick with the original 3DS (as I mentioned above) and wait for the next new model to be released.

I'm so happy that Nintendo improve the battery life on this handheld console because the very first 3DS the battery life wasn't all that great, plus the graphics and the 3D don't give you a headache no more.

I bought myself a n3ds xl and I have to say, the power in this one shows compared to the o3ds. Theres even an over clock option for you if you install a cfw!
I still have my blue 3DS that I got for my birthday 5 years ago. It's only got a few scratches and all the controls still work fine. I'm just glad that Pokemon Sun and Moon will still be compatible with it. I prefer the smaller and more compact DS sizes over the bulky XL sizes since it's easier to carry and travel with. However, only the New 3DS XL's are available in the U.S except for Super Mario 3D Land New 3DS bundle available at Target. Should I consider getting that sooner or later?
The Dark Slayer #⑥⑨ I have the original red 3ds and just upgraded to the new Nintendo 3ds XL and find it sooo much better! I thought I wouldn't like the bigger design but the bigger screen makes gaming amazing and considering I have big hands it helps me hold the device better. I'd say go for it! I will say however my original 3ds is at the end of its life so this was a necessary upgrade :P Sun and moon will be awesome on it!

I still use my original aqua blue 3DS from Christmas 2011. I don't regret getting it. It still works just fine and provides lots of fun on the go. I might get a 2DS, though, since it is a bit worn and those are cheap.

Yes indeed. Bought a Slim New 3DS with no regrets :) *because smaller and interchangeable faceplates is a big plus. But on the XL/LL you have to buy any TPU case of any designs you want.
I get that this video is over two years old, but the comment is still relevant. I have a 3DS XL that I bought new in 2013. I have since carried it with me nearly everywhere over the past 5 years. It has been my sidekick and has thousands of hours of gameplay on it. It has been well cared for and at this time, I still see no need in "upgrading" to the new system. That said, I am in love with the SNES model.

I'm thinking about getting the New 3DS with my own money, but the troubling thought is that my mom BARELY never gets me anywhere, meaning I can't do any chores for other people to get money. Another problem is that I can't get the money because I'm already in debt with my sister. Whenever I get money, whether it's allowance or chore money, she WILL take it from me, which is pretty sad.
So what I have been thinking to do is to get my grades up a bit more than my usual A's and B's to all A's, which can really be a stress whore, because I can't handle that much homework in one setting.
I still have a Crystal 2DS (which is my baby right now), so it wouldn't be such a great idea to get a New 3DS right from the start, but I am thinking about giving my friend Gael my current 2DS, as he doesn't have one.
