I hope when he retires, Steven McRae is seriously considered for a top administrative post at the Royal Ballet. He has the intelligence and the sheer stability for a directorship at the Royal Ballet - and he has such loyalty to the company. He is quite admirable as a human being.
What a high class personality, should become Minister - Secretary of State for Culture. A prospective post for him and positive repercussions for us all.
'It takes a village to raise a child'. I watched this because I've only just come across and been delighted by Stephen McCrae as a dancer. Wonderful interview in which he appreciates and shares every aspect of how he became the great dancer he is.
Wonderful to see this great dancer and obviously very kind man, with his touching story of an innocent and naive childhood leading to being one of the absolute top dancers in the world!!!
He is just the most amazing dancer and athlete of all time , a credit to his early teachers. He is just poetry in motion.Australia has amazing dancers.❤
Well…. Maybe among the greatest. That’s pretty dismissive of the great Russian dancers, who are also among the greatest of all time. But I love the use of his arms and upper body. A lot of male dancers even the best seem to not integrate their arms the way women dancers do. He is really powerful and graceful in a way that seems very aware and controlled with every step. That quality reminds me of Baryshnikov.
Just wonderful- What a class act. I love that he acknowledges the honor of representing such an esteemed company. It is a tragedy that NYCB principal male dancers (Finlay and Ramasar) don’t have this mentality and sense of responsibility. They are spoilt kids in comparison with complete lack of self awareness.
physhac it’s actually disgusting what those guys did. I guess Sergei Polunin isn’t the “bad boy of ballet” anymore, although he never really was, that was just what the media labeled him as. It’s makes me angry how much negative press Sergei got for quitting the company, where it seems like those male principles at NYCB didn’t get as much media attention and hate you think they would get.
This is such an amazing story to have been part of. When Steven received his BBM Scholarship to travel to Europe and pursue his dream, he was an outstanding talent, but nobody could have foreseen just how stellar his rise to the top would be...
rosie sims He said he learned lots of different dance techniques from the beginning of his training. When he won the Prix de Lausanne at age 17 he performed a tap dance after the ballet role. You can see it on You Tube.
What a wonderfu,l interesting and loving person, extraordinary ballet dancer ,and human being, Stephen is. Keep on dancing for us, the dancers and teachers, you inspire with your passion and love for challenge
Just been to see "Cats", the film and Steven is just brilliant as The railway cat. A fabulous entertainer and as great a tap dancer as ballet dancer- An amazing talent and just beautiful to watch. Long may he continue to amaze us and thank you, Steven
Magnificent interview , thanks a lot. Steven McRae is such a magnificent dancer. a great great dancer, in my opinion, one of the best in the world. it's a joy to see him dancing, really a joy. So, thanks a lot of this interview , it's been very interesting to learn more about him, as since today I had only seen him dancing ,and it's great to discover him and the other dancers, in a more personal way , as all your other interviews with Sarah Lamb ( I like her a lot, so thanks for that interview) they are very interesting interviews. I hope one day you do an interview with Lauren Cuthbertson , I admire her a lot, since I saw her for the first time in Sleeping Beauty , I follow her career, she is so unique, it would be great and interview of this kind with her, it would be just fantastic :-) thank you very much :-)
I'm guessing, given Steven's character, that the Royal Ballet actually has a proper code of conduct. He's married to another dancer too --- and somehow manages not to want to treat women "like farm animals" --- amazing how that happens when a company is run properly. NYCB --- pay attention. This is how male dancers should conduct themselves. How COMPANIES should conduct themselves.
Mathilde Wesendonck Look at the New York City Ballet sex scandal. Male dancers were trafficking female dancers nudes and talking about wanting to treat women like farm animals.
@mathildewesendonck7225 Mathilde the Ignorant: Learn the tawdry history of NYCB to find out. I would add to Wendy's comment - the administrators at NYCB should also learn how to conduct themselves.
My daughter is 6 and a half and will have her first solo this winter... it's cool to hear that there are successful people who were also precocious! she trains 5 days a week!
Frankenstein was a great role but Mayerling was outstanding! I can see him doing Northern Ballet Casanova and bringing that part to its perfection too.
So many of the dancers he named who received their training outside the Royal Ballet. That's when the Royal Ballet started to improve -- imported dancers with better training.
I do hope some choreographer grabs the chance to create new roles for this astonishing dancer, fully utilizing a mixture of styles. Or maybe he can make his own ballets.

what a powerhouse this man is
He is so humble for someone so great ,he is the greatest male dancer of our time .❤
My favorite dancer, a true artist. Naturally talented, highly dedicated but above all, very very intelligent and self aware.
Thank you for giving respect to small town teachers who got you ready for the world.
A wonderful interview, informative, human, natural. I admire his maturity and intelligence.
He speaks of his family so respectfully. I love that.
He has such a wonderful personality! It was a very wonderful Interview. Thank you so much

What a warm and kind human being. Loved this interview!
Athleticism, artistry and intelligence at its best!
Love the obvious sense of wonder and humility. A great artist.
Thank you, for talking to us Steven. We are amazed and delighted by your dancing.
Lovely interview with a great dancer and a really genuine person.
This is such an amazing story to have been part of. When Steven received his BBM Scholarship to travel to Europe and pursue his dream, he was an outstanding talent, but nobody could have foreseen just how stellar his rise to the top would be...
Beautiful testimony coming from an exemplary human being and awesome artist. Bravo!👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🌹
What an amazing interview - talent, humility, and athleticism
He seems like a great guy, besides being a great dancer. I love the photos of his lovely wife and adorable kids.❤️
I looked and looked for him, then found him. He is bloody brilliant.
Wonderful interview! Intelligent, humble and very kind!
Amazing...to be able to train as a ballet dancer and then to do tap, (Alice in Wonderland) a different technique completely. Such a natural talent.
rosie sims He said he learned lots of different dance techniques from the beginning of his training. When he won the Prix de Lausanne at age 17 he performed a tap dance after the ballet role. You can see it on You Tube.
Carlos Acosta, break dance, salsa. Julio Bocca, tango. Adam Cooper, musical theatre. Maybe having other dance languages are an advantage.
Just a most beautiful male danseur!
His interview was brilliant and wisdom for life of creative passion .
A true artist
Wow he is so so lovely. I’m surprised at how calm he is given his passionate theatrical performances!
:-) yes, he did. He's so sweet and nice that it doesn't matter.
He is my inspiration now. Such an incredible man
Excellent presentation. All performing artists should watch this. Thank you Mr. McRae.
I could listen to him all day (and needless to say, I could also watch him dance all day 👏😊)
Believe me I get what it takes!! My son Ryan is a Soloist with the Ballet Theater of Maryland, so I get it!! We LOVE LOVE Steven McRae!!
Wonderful interview! Thank you.
21-gun salute to the man who carried the Cats movie on his back for the only good four minutes of that entire trainwreck.
😂😂😂❤
It is amazing how he was really gifted the opportunity . and he was up for it
another wonderful interview with a magnificent dancer!
Finally someone who didn't decide to become a dancer after watching Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty or Swan Lake.
There´s nothing wrong with wanting to become a dancer after watching Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty or Swan Lake.
I don't think many men decide to do ballet because of those ballets.
What a wonderfu,l interesting and loving person, extraordinary ballet dancer ,and human being, Stephen is. Keep on dancing for us, the dancers and teachers, you inspire with your passion and love for challenge
Great interview!! Comes across as a really rounded human being!! Heard he is injured so wishing him a speedy recovery!!!
He is so talented and such an inspiration. 😍😘😆😀😍
Just been to see "Cats", the film and Steven is just brilliant as The railway cat. A fabulous entertainer and as great a tap dancer as ballet dancer- An amazing talent and just beautiful to watch.

Wonderful interview, also he's really good at pronouncing foreign language names!

Mesmerising powerful dancer yet blown away by his grace.
it is wonderful to know more about this great dancer. Very nice human being. Thank you for this.

Wendy Nerd I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say 😳

This was another wonderful and insightful interview! Keep up the good work. Xx
Such an interesting interview, awesome!!
He's simply adorable"
Such a wonderful interview, love him even more after watching this
My daughter is 6 and a half and will have her first solo this winter... it's cool to hear that there are successful people who were also precocious! she trains 5 days a week!
Most insightful video I've ever watched. BRAVO!
Isn't he break-the-mold kind of lovely 🏆👏💐💋💯
This is the guy playing skimbleshanks in the new cats movie.
Flannery Monaghan-Morrs Shame the movie was a disaster :0
Great to hear from this magnificent artist.
Very personable and humble. A world class dancer.
What nice young man! Bravo!
What a lovely guy. Completely apart from his talent, just a beautiful character.
I really really hope he becomes a dance teacher in some capacity one day, he would be excellent
Found you through the movie cats. I have watched the tap a hundred times. Love it !!! I have started following your genius of dance.
we stan true talent.
Wonderful interview, i loved! waiting the next xx
I remember when he won in Lausanne🎉🎉🎉
Worn out pointing out to the large number of people worried about this - flamingo is the English translation of flamenco.
I really hope if they ever do some sort of pure ballet adaptation of Le Fantôme de l'Opéra Steven McRae is a main role
I love it so much
Great Inteview!
Amazin guy! :-)
Inspirationally self-reflective!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m in love 😍
My fave male dancer
The story make me think about Billy Eliot 😊
I love this interview.
Excellent!
Great dancer !!!!!!
Watch MAYERLING..
Im 17 starting now :')))) and he says he was late
The best!
I do hope some choreographer grabs the chance to create new roles for this astonishing dancer, fully utilizing a mixture of styles. Or maybe he can make his own ballets.
Did he actually say Flamingo the bird at 6:17 and not Flamenco the dance ? oh well, I love the flamingo too then =)
It's the English translation of the word flamenco:-)
@@casteretpollux :) !
Sooooooooooooo goooooooooood
Skimbleshanks the
Railway cat
The cat
On the railway
Train 🚂
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 ❤️
😍
AND he sews 😮
Flamingo?
😅😅😅
Flamenco. :-)
FLAMENCO IS THE SPANISH FOR FLAMINGO
There were two Australians in Cats. One was appalling and one was sensational.
I am 100% here for Steven but are we going to come for him for referring to Spanish dance as "flamingo" rather than "flamenco" ? 🤨😓
🦩 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
Hahaa yes 🤣
I noticed that too!
He is so sweet and nice that it doesn't matter.
It's the English translation of the sp. word flamenco. Look at the birds and you'll see why.
I believe he meant to say flamenco, not flamingo.
No. Its the English translation of Flamenco.
!! 🔳🟧⬜️🟥🔳 !!
Flamingo? Sheesh.
English translation of the word flamenco.
11:10 Just...
En français svp traduire !
How old is he?
He's turning 33 next month :)
Excuse me Steven, when did you decide to have a posh Australian accent? 😂
Did... did he just say "flamingo"...?
He did, hahaha, is that when you dance like the bird? that´d make a beautiful dance indeed
😀
it's the English translation of the Spanish word flamenco.
sorry, Steven not Stephen
