    I saw this car up close before the jump & I can honestly say that it wasn't even in daily driver condition. It was skinned with panels that had most of the folds beat out of them. There were waves going the length of the car & hammer dents all over it. The suspension was designed to take the jump & it wasn't this car's first jump. Yes it took a beating but it wasn't the first time & probably not the last. For those of us that were there it was beyond worth it!

However, even that one he came out smelling like a rose due to proper roll cage construction and proper safety features installed. He's been passed the torch by the original Dukes stuntmen, which by the way suffered multiple injuries, and he's top in the business right now for jumping cars.

      Man, it sure doesn’t look like any of the Crown Vic Chargers I’ve seen. It’s leaf springs and has the factory Dodge steering wheels angle and not a Crown Vic wheel or dash. It has a real vent window which the Crown Vic clones usually only roughly imitate. We get a good look at the driver’s front frame rail on the turn around after the failed pass….. sure looks like Mopar B body torsion bar stuff to me. The car is all kinds of jacked up and used and fixed a bunch, but looks like a Charger.

    • @johnwilburn
      @johnwilburn Год назад +1

      @@LiterallyCensoredDaily After reading several of these comments, it looks like this particular group doing the stunts out of Ohio uses Chargers, bud try to get a lot of service out of them. The Crown Vic stuff is plenty good for these things and only look phony if you’re standing right up on them. Cooter’s Place in Virginia has a Crown Vic General Lee out front. First one I had ever seen. Was interesting…. The rear end is way wider and there are seams at the A pillar and bottom of the rockers. The underside is really different, but that’s rarely seen. They are a great solution for stunts.

    I can agree with others opinions about wrecking an antique muscle car, but to those of us who grew up watching the dukes every Friday night on CBS during the late seventies and early eighties, we seem to have a love affair to see our childhood dream in flying motion right b4 our eyes. I seen 2 of these chargers fly at Dukesfest 2004 and 2005 in bristol Virginia at the NASCAR speedway, and I even rode in one on the track. It was one of the greatest experiences I've EVER had, and will I ever see my childhood dream come to life again? Highly doubtful. Sure, I'm a Mopar fan for many years now, and like many, my stomach churns at the sight of these wonderful cars being destroyed, but the fact is, there are teams of folks who can take these cars, strip them down, and build em back from scratch from the chassis on up. Chances are, this very general in the video has been wrecked before or will go back to be wrecked again. They wrecked 2 generals, 2 dodge Monaco cruisers, and 2 bad guy cars at bristol in 04 and 05, and all six of those cars were auctioned off to help support childrens miracle network which john Schneider remains a big supporter of throughout all these years. Otherwise, I'm sure some pretty crafty hands could make some magic happen with refitting these cars for another jump. They dont have to b back to 100% original condition as they're solely used for stunt driven performances. In addition, much of the parts on these cars are aftermarket. Look in a Mopar magazine. U can practically build a charger from the ground up. I'm not sure if a chassis can b purchased or not, but most parts can b ordered straight from the distributor.

    For the record everyone, my good friend Raymond Kohn jumped this General Lee and said that the reason he lost control at this jump was due to hitting the sand as he went around the ramp. The car has no power steering and it makes it difficult to control when driving in sand. Just a freak accident and he did a very good job regardless. He and his team use the unrestorable cars with no VINs or titles for these jumps so please stop accusing them of destroying Chargers when they are already too far gone. There is a reason there are parts cars which are what these jumps use. They never use good cars or ones that have the potential to be restored. Way to go Northeast Ohio Dukes and Raymond Kohn for keeping the Dukes of Hazzard and classic car stunts alive!

    People have to realise that it is because of the popularity of the TV show that there are so many chargers still in existence today. Instead of looking at the few that are wrecked, look at the thousands that have been saved and are now cherished , thousands of GL replicas all over the world. Because of this there has also been a whole industry set up to supply spares and pattern parts to ensure these cars will live on for decades. How many old chargers would have rusted away beyond repair were it not for the cult status of the GL . Thats the reason you cant buy a charger now, not because they are all wrecked but because they have all been restored and rescued. .

If you think it's wrong to jump a 69 Charger, then you don't understand why the Charger was a legend. 100s were destroyed in the making tons of great movies (and games) because it looks so fucking good but also doesn't require being babied because of its price tag like most sought after cars today. The charger demands to be thrashed like a good car should be. Not shined up and put in a garage. Keep using it. Because their supply is not limited. So many movies and stunt men use it that there are companies that reproduce them part by part. It's not just a collector car, it's a legendary platform (which can be blueprinted, reproduced, and driven daily). It's special because it is the beauty and the beater.

      It was a unrestorable, rotted-out parts car with no VIN or title to begin with. Go to there Facebook page and check out what they had to work with.

    Isn't some General Lee's made for jumping outta rebodied Crown Vic's?

    • @jacobshort6528
      @jacobshort6528 4 года назад

      Yes and no. The '69 Charger had early unibody construction and K subframe. The Ford Crown Vic's unibody was built much sturdier because they were used as cop cars for 200,000 miles, or five years. And then as taxi cabs for another 300,000 miles. And they STILL survived. So they are cut down to the wheel wells and rocker panels to become new chassis for multiplied- wrecked Chargers. The new Charger Victorias survive jumps much better than they used to as bone stock wrecks.

    Well... I guess this is why its getting so hard to find a nice 69 charger

    • @johnkramer7161
      @johnkramer7161 7 лет назад +1

      You'd be wrong. The cars they start with are rusted out parts cars that were left for dead.

    • @jacobshort6528
      @jacobshort6528 4 года назад

      No, this is why it's getting hard to find rusty, rotted out Chargers. That, and that they were crushed in the tens of thousands in the 1970s and 1980s.

    • @thelasthallow
      @thelasthallow 8 лет назад

      no, if it was rusty the quarter panels would be fucked, the car looks like it was semi restored by the sheet metal alone.

    • @BallistaBomber
      @BallistaBomber 8 лет назад

      +thelasthallow they just make them look restored,

    • @thelasthallow
      @thelasthallow 8 лет назад

      Ballista Bomber Look, Either way the car is still worth a lot even if it was a rusted piece of shit, go on craiglist or ebay, you will find chargers with nothing in them, just a rolling body and they still go for $3000 (U.S.) a rusty piece of shit charger that has everything in it still (including engine and trans) doesnt even run can cost upwards of 10 grand or more.
      these guys need to stop wrecking chargers.

      No but you made it apparent you were not against it by saying "they are rusty and made to look restored" making it seem like they should just wreck them either way.

    Als Whole-- the name of this event was NOT dukesfest! it was "hazzard comes to galax, va".. "dukesfest" has not been used in the name of an event since 2008.. due to that, in 2011 Mr Ben Jones aka Cooter and his wife started the whole thing all over and it is now called "hazzard homecoming".. so you need to pay attention to the names of events.. this was NOT a stupid event nor a waste of time. you are not a true dukes fan to feel that way

    words of caution-- for those who have photos and videos from events, be careful who you send them to & what you post on this site.. it is sad to say that there are some within the dukes hobby collect/download these, make prints of YOUR photos, and make dvd's/videos using YOUR videos, and SELL them to make money off them. and what does the person who made the video or photo get?? NOT A DIME ! it happens A LOT ! that is why we have never put videos/photos on the net for public access

    To all you little girls crying over them destroying a General Lee... you obviously haven't watched the Dukes of Hazard. IT WAS THE POINT OF THE SHOW TO DESTROY A DODGE CHARGER like come on people if you don't get excited to see a General Lee soaring through the air to hit the ground with 2 G's you obviously aren't a true Dukes of Hazard fan. Besides, the wrecked charger goes to a place or maybe even a father and dad for them to restore. So, wipe up those tears, pull up your big boy pants, and enjoy the carnage.

    I have been to the real Dukefest stunt shows and who is this guy from Ohio who thinks if he crashes enough replica cars that he will be part of the Dukes Of Hazzard Legacy. My husband agrees that he should obviously leave the real stunts to the real stunt men. SERIOUSLY: What imagine do the kids take home if he manages to kill himself in the orange charger supposedly made of bondo and pizza boxes. We did get a chuckle out of the fat guy swinging that hammer... good to see he has an expert team.
