- A brilliant ending! Ian Carmichael, Terry Thomas and Alastair Sim in one of their bests films. Having learned how to seduce women at the University of Lifemanship, Ian Carmichael puts it into practice, but in the end comes clean and wins the lovely Janette Scott's heart.

The sublime Alastair Sim in one of his best roles - rounded off splendidly by speaking directly to camera - wonderful stuff
Ploy 64!!! Haha.
What a simple, sublime and wonderful film.
Just pure class.
Jennette Scott looks absolutely beautiful.
All the cast, big and small, do a wonderful job of bringing this movie to life.
The waiter at The Camelia Room, the girls working in Henry's office, The 2 Winsome Welshmen car dealers, Gloatbridge are so well acted.
One of my all time favourite comedy films.
You're spot on! I've watched this film so many times and it never fails to amuse and entertain. Film making at its very best. Thanks for your comment.
Ian Carmichael- superb in this film.
Alastair Sim - a lesson in acting, so underated
An overlooked gem of fourth wall breaking
One of the best British films ever. "You can't use Kid Gloves with a man like Gloatbridge"
"Not sincerity Palfrey"....ooh, said in such tones of underlying pathos...thank you for posting this clip...now, if only the 'Happiest Days of our Lives' and 'Belles of St. Trinians' could be posted (full films preferably, of course) I would be the happiest camper alive
That's one beautiful woman! From Morecambe, UK! Thora Hurd's daughter!
No Max Factor for Janette Scott, she doesn't need it. A lovely lady and still going strong.
And the lovely Jeannette Scott
paul rawes met her & she signed my copy of The Complete Upmanship by Stephen Potter 😂
What a line up in this clip,Legends, sadly missed..
I think Janet Scott is still around? 73?

Class, class and more class!
what pisses me of the Americans have tried to riecreate a classic british film, LEAVE IT they will never be able to recreate british classics. they dont have the same humour, this is a classic british film that will never be touched WE ARE NOTHING ALIKE AMERICANS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
One of my all time favourites, and you STILL have to pay to watch this brilliant Brit movie - speaks volumes!
Im american and I agree...some movies are so good and such classics that they should not be remade...
"We are witnessing the birth of a new ploy..." ROFLMAO!
Who else can be accredited to saying 'music', 'orchestra' and 'infernal' in such a way?
I was born in April 1965 ... over the years I'd seen some of this film yet not all of it, in the early 1990s I saw it from the start to the end. In the 80s I friend of mine aiways used to "Hard Chees" ... this film is Fab Classic, every now and again I play the dvd and it makes my day!.
Oh no! Not ... not SINCERITY!! :D Briliant!
A great movie.
The flat is still there to be seen at Hendon Central, Thurlby Croft, by the crossroad, just down from the Irish pub on the hill. The place looks similar to when filming took place in 1958 but the roads lack charm now and have lots of street clutter and signs. Even the wooden sign has gone. Back then few cars.
Absolutely - it was a lovely place to live in the 1950s and early 1960s. Still quite a pleasant place, but has since declined terribly overall...
@@wordsmith52 The 1950s was a lovely decade - neighbourhoods unspoiled by cars.
@@julianbonser Yes, a different world. As I recall, most people who could afford cars parked them in garages.
Sincerity - talks to camera
Love this film
Wonderful movie
Brilliant film
One of my favourites - I never tire of watching it. Jeanette Scott must be the last surviving cast member.
[last line. Mr S. Potter to the camera]
Mr. S. Potter: I do apologize ladies and gentlemen, events do seem to have taken a most unfortunate turn. This sort of calamity we cannot always guard against, even amongst our best students. You see once, once sincerity rears its ugly head, well lifemanship is powerless...
[an orchestra starts to play]
Mr. S. Potter: stop that music... orchestra!... orchestra... stop that infernal din. Please, no, I... look at me, I must get back to Yeovil.
Thomas was pushing 50 when this was filmed, Janette Scott was 21.
"Stop that , I say (!)"
I want to rent this movie somewhere.Big fan of 1976 bollywood "chhoti si baat" which I learn recently is inspired from this film.
It's on TV enough, just record it next time around! Channel 81??
