A Terry Thomas classic movie and what a cast of British comedy talent. Superb
What a cad!
Terry Thomas was dying alone in a hospital, forgotten, when all Britain was told about it on a news report, he was ioverwhelmed with help, love and Terry Thomas movie revivals.
I say
Love the way George Cole's "Welsh" accent was deliberately all over the place with a touch of Scottish and Irish thrown in !
British humour at its very best. Saw it many years ago and am enjoying it as much as ever again now in 2023. England, December, 2023.
Gosh I loved Terry Thomas, what a fabulous actor
@@LeeJahn-ih9xu me to couldn't stop laughing when he was in the series of the Persuaders with Roger Moore and Tony curtis
"Terry-Thomas" has a hyphen - it was his surname.
George Cole's intruder accent hovers between a sort of Welsh, a hint of Highland, a dash of Irish, and finally decides upon somewhere down south. Oh.. and God knows where🤣
Reminds me of that American chap playing the Artful Dodger. He went through several attempts at the Cockney accent before giving up and reverting to his native Nebraskan (or whatever).
“Meeester X” is hilarious too 😂
British humor is just so good, not the first time seeing this one. Recommend watching.
This is the British humor of 60 years ago.
Humour and proper humour
@@lawrencemasterson7187 great British humour 🤣🤣
I really enjoyed this comedy when I first saw it in 1980. The British were masters in farce and comic timings. Glad to see this movie again after so many years.
Wonderful a great cast with terry Thomas at his absolute rotter best.
17:32 "Dont be so ridiculous. Nobody loves a tax-inspector" 😂😂😂
So damn true 😁
Thanks for upload mate. This movie and "I´m all right, Jack" are among my favorites. I love classic british comedies.
Cheers from Denmark
Tak ! Og vi elsker Danmark !! .🇬🇧 👍
@@venividiviking later used in films to include traffic wardens.
Sid James and Terry Thomas at the summit of their skills, and that's saying plenty. A wonderful movie.
Any movie featuring the great T.T. is bound to be a treat 😊
It's a shame that Terry Thomas died penniless, but everybody in this film were perfect, a classic in every way
ahhhh yes!...the amazing George Cole
Superb movie! I love Terry Thomas, the "Gap Toothed Git"!
LooooooooL
An absolute CLASSIC!!
🤣👍🏾🏴
Charming, just charming. British movies are just the best. Thank you, for this funny and charming movie, humor, and light heartedness.
I've enjoyed Terry Thomas ever since I saw him on TV in one of the beach movies back in the 60s when I was a kid. I'm 65 now and still love these great films.
A fantastic film, Terry Thomas is outstanding as always
Definitely up there with my other all-time favourites. Excellent cast. So many memorable scenes, and many memorable lines that I will never forget . Pre - Python British humour at its best!
This is one of my favorite Terry Thomas films so hilarious especially the way he keeps jumping in out the window of a burning house😅❤
It is a scorcher of a film, fantastic performance by Terry Thomas and Bernie Bresslaw also has some great lines ' 'They said I should never have been born...but I was!'
- Yes, I Love that line !! -- I weighed 18 Oz's
A wonderful film. Thank you so much for posting this.
Smashing film with smashing actors. Thank you for uploading this film.
@@mscherylb7950 including the matchless Brenda de Banzie!
Wow what a great comedy! A real gem - I’m so glad I happened upon it!
Yes love this classic in addition to my other favourites, Two Way Stretch, School for Scoundrels and I’m Alright Jack 👍🏻
And Ladykillers 😁
They're all good, but I'm Alright Jack speaks volumes. Heavens Above isn't bad either, and, same era, Kind Hearts and Coronets
Another good film is Make Mine Mink with TT. Not quite as good, but well worth a look!
a trio of my own personal favourites as well . How about The man in the white suit . ? Obi wan Kenobi in later years ...... Watch for an earthquake on the 14th or 15th. as I collect apparent coincidences that later become known accepted facts. Thanks.
@@fusionfan6883 Thought no-one else had the same great taste in old British classics as me.
Blimmey talk about comic royalty ⭐👍 I'm watching this for about the 50th Time 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cheers Stephen ✌️🍀😂
Blimey, what a riot! Terry Thomas is a British gem of a comedian, and this movie was such a lot of fun to watch. Too bad they didn't see what happened as they drove off. Thanks for the posting. Joe S
Lovely movie ❤ when England was at the forefront of movie making ❤ what a cast xxx thank you for the wonderful upload ❤
Stanley Black, who did the music 🎶 for this, was immensely prolific. Among his film 📼 credits include this, The Naked Truth, Further Up the Creek, Laughter in Paradise, The Siege of Sidney Street and many, many others. He died in 2002 aged 89. Thanks for the memories dude ❤ 😊
This film is perfect in every way,so many little nuances and in gags, bernhard is hilarious, but as usual terry owns it though ,such timing and facial expressions,a master of his art.
Not quite perfect. If the wife knew that the money was under the floor then why did she send the faux gas men up to investigate the faux leak?
@Hereford1642 really ,is that all you've got ,appreciate class when you see it,look at the shite we have to put up with now.
@@dps8435 I will quote you - 'perfect in every way'.
It is not. That is all.
@@Hereford1642 semantics,look let's just agree it is a treat to watch.👍
I’ve got this on DVD ,brilliant comedy 😂😂😂
Thanks for the film. I've never seen this before and I really enjoyed it. hugs
I caught this a few times on Sunday morning tv. A classic.
Thank you so much for not chopping off the start and end! They are very important to some of us, and those who who don't want to watch them can easily skip them.
Some info is duplicated in them, but they each contain info that the other one doesn't, as well. The director is never listed at the end, and more minor actors are never listed at the start.
Some uploaders seem to think that chopping the front and end off will save them from copyright strikes, but RUclips uses advanced software, so that makes no difference at all.
Thank you again for leaving the film intact! ❤❤❤
I had permission to upload it that’s why.
Furs by Arpad-Tico. I wonder what they do for a living these days.
I love this film too. I have it on a box set which includes "Make Mine Mink", another gem.
Brilliant, classic British comedy. Many thanks
Terry Thomas , i say! Brilliant
A young George Cole, even then you could see Arthur Daily.
Very young Bernard Bresslaw too.
Love this film SO much, it's brilliant & So funny, fantastic lines, I've had it on video for years
Superb actor Terry Thomas. The perfect personification of the “Cad”….
"Terry-Thomas" was definitely a "bounder" rather than a cad.
@ A cad and a bounder Sir…..a la some of P G Wodehouse’s characters
I used to have this film on dvd. It's hilarious the crooks are totally inept right through the whole film even right to the end. It's my favourite film. I've list count of he number of times I've seen it
An afternoon delight !!!
Scattered up the great north road... classic
That was lots of fun. Thanks
Brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing l. Old school humour. Thank you.
More of this is needed fella!👍🏴
It’s an absolute shower 🤣
Nicee one cheers for the classic
What a humorous piece. Thanks for uploading.
Jolly good lads .🇬🇧
Gags Galore! Terry Thomas Character says to the Finish guy at about 11 minutes: ''You speak with a French accent. Why?'' The Finish guy responds, ''Because Finish is tooo difficult..'' At 20 minutes the George Cole character enters the wife's house speaking Welsh then, forgets, and begins speaking a Scottish accent then goes back to Welsh: Lol
It´s Tutte Lemkow. He´s totally nuts 😁Have seen him in several movies, where he had minor parts.
A brilliant film, one of the greats
One of my top favourite film quotes of all, uttered by the incomparable Bernard Bresslaw;
Vera Day: Hey, guess what? I got nearly £500 out of him for a fake passport.
Brenda de Banzie: Well done !
Bernard Bresslaw: He's potty. he can get a real one for 30 bob.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful film. Such talent from so many incredible actors - it was pure MAGIC from start to finish and I absolutely LOVED it x
Great movie, thanks for the upload... 🎉
A great film for Christmas.
Love this Brit film Terry Thomas brilliant
Love that film...
That was really good, thank you!
Thank you for uploading this fantastic film 😊
Great British comedy
And the opening music is wonderful, jazzy and upbeat with that sly 'Pink Panther' vibe. Movie is obvious source for Bette Midler's "Ruthless People". With Danny DeVito as the husband.
- Yes , never thought of that .
Huey and Duey! Lol.
Cyril Chamberlain (1909-1974) as the Chief Fire Officer - uncredited, as he often sadly was, but a stalwart of British films for decades!
- yes, He was very good in anything he was in .
Thant was an excellent film 😂👍👍👍
Most enjoyable
Great, watched it 3 times!!
My late mum worked for Mr Zampi for a while while this film was being made. She particularly remembers his dog Nero, a great Dane who used to practically knock her off her chair. She visited the studio on one occasion. Can't remember which bit she saw being filmed.
Wow a young Glynnis Johns too ❤ You gotta love Terry-Thomas too
Had she put on that lisp yet ?
My favourite is School For Scoundrels.
my fav too
@@furryhenry best film ever. Love watching it on dvd on a rainy Sunday!
I started off thinking this movie's not very good.I'm not going to watch the rest of it, but I hung on richard up to me so very funny
There are three films in this series...
The Zampi brothers made this one and MAKE MINE MINK and THE NAKED TRUTH.
Terry-Thomas in them all.
They are all brilliant well worth watching.....
Thanks so much for posting
Excellent!
GLEEM toothpaste ad musicians, that ancient tv music 😆😆 have mercy
I like this one too!
Love this movie.
Sid James was a handy amateur boxer back in South Africa .!!
And also a ladies hairdresser.
Odd but true.
@2msvalkyrie529 yeah ,liked to practice on women ,and spent every penny he and anyone else's he could get on gambling ,not all screen idols are as they appear.
Well Sid James had the face for it .
Classic. The high status female character who turns out to be smarter than the gang of crooks and gets one over her husband at the end is in the Lady Bracknell mould.
Interesting to see appearances from John Le Mesurier, Nicholas Parsons and Terry Scott as well.
Another great Terry T one was "School for Scoundrels" - do yourself a favour!
Brilliant, they don't make me like they used to.
I love it!
£10,000 in 1959 would be worth £287,000 in 2023, for anyone wondering.
Or $368,000 USD.
That doesn't work, cause in 1959 you could buy a house for £1200, that same house today would be around £180,000
Google says $1 in 1959 is worth $10.88 today. 3.74% inflation rate per year : 1.0374^65 = 10.88; they assumed 65 years, 64 more accurate from jan 1 ‘59 to dec 31 ‘23. In any event using google #s, if the pound had the same inflation rate, 10000 pounds then is 108800 pounds today.
@@tonyciantar6417different markets have different inflation rates. real estate inflation rate is much higher than the average inflation rate. 8% per year for housing, 3.7% per year overall rate.
@@tonyciantar6417 True but home values aren't at play in this context. As a plot point in a screwball comedy (vs documentary/financial drama/loan application) to establish the stakes at hand, the translation from a "£25,000" ransom to an adjusted £700,000 ransom is significant enough. How many homes one could buy is irrelevant. I don't think any of these criminals are like "once I find that nice single-family with a backyard I'm getting out of this racket."
The court scene....had me in hysterics
Tippy low lads
Thank you, real funny!
You can't beat brittish comedy in black and white
HILARIOUS ❤
Excellent
Very good movie !
6:49: "Who's Billy Gordon? Why don't you learn to read ?"
6:55 "I don't know. I can never get the hang of it.
Only great delivery from great comedians can a comic bit so hackneyed be so hilarious.
I enjoyed the rather twee film, old chap. Good show. My all-time favourite film is 'Young Frankenstein', which btw, was also filmed in black and white.
Growing up watching broadcast tv 3 channel plus UHF I recognized that when a movie started with the man banging the gong it was going to be fun.
George Cole in a very early audition for you know who…
And the actor that played the policeman in the dock who went onto to play Terry out of Terry & June
“. Great quote: Not a sausage”
A nod is a good as a wink to a blind horse.
Now l understand where the idea for Touchstone Picture's "Ruthless People" came from.
1959 classic.
My favourite film of this era is school for scoundrels
I can't find where it is for rent.
Love Sydney Taffler ! He's So Good
A true British post war comody.
Sid James plays an awful lot of characters called Sid.
Quite an array of famous names in this one.
It was part of the deals that he used his name.
The powers that be can never have criminals "getting away with it" even in a comedy film...Great film tho 👍
Yes I was curious how this was going to end.
Afraid of the competition are they?
