Don’t compare this guy to Foose
Couldn't agree more Tad !!! . Chip Foose is a great builder but as far a TV shows to watch i personally enjoy Full Custom Garage . If an everyday guy is building in his garage at home so many tips and creative techniques can be picked up by watching Ian Roussel .
U can't even compare a builder to so over working shop owners
Shaq keeps them in business by having his cars brought in to replace all the emblems with the Superman logo🤣
Shaq, Bieber, and Will i am.
The owner let success corrupt his thinking. The workers are the ones getting the work done. If you screw them you'll end up in failure. This guy out grew his talent.
Westcoast Custom was a customer of mine years ago! They bounced a $70 check to me and would not come clean with it! Till some months later I get a call they're in a bind they needed me to build something for Sylvester Stallone's movie truck! Bingo! I told them pay $70 plus fees and the job I'll do prepaid in cash. There was a lead fabricator I don't remember his name but his house was about to or was in forclosure because Ryan wasn't paying him so he went to Ryan for money so he wouldn't lose his house and Ryan fired him! Another guy was a couple weeks behind in pay! On a Friday Ryan comes to him and asked if he would come in on a Saturday to work on Ryan's son's go-cart! He asked if he could get paid and Ryan got pissed and fired him! This is all first hand info.

The work was what seemed to be bolt on catalog add-on junk, wraps and crappy paint jobs. Lots of goofy LED's making it look like a clown car. They catered to celebrities mostly because they are generally not real car people and buy into the hype and have deep pockets.A shop like Kindig blows these lightweights away.
Absofuckinglutly!
Man you can't mention kindigit and Westcoast in the same sentence, that's disrespectful 🤦♂️
@@nonameisthename138 Your right, two different worlds here. Kindig is but one that comes to mind. Many serious shops that will never be on TV also do excellent builds and custom work. The work they do can be seen at SEMA every year.
Chip Foose's bumpy ride with Discovery is rather typical- when Chip got it rolling for them, they started trying to substitute corny false drama and faked problems for cars well done. Chip finally learned he could not reform them. I miss the show for the outstanding work. Chip, he still blows them away at SEMA and is a judge at places like the Most Beautiful Roadster Show and the Riddler; I suspect he is much happier!
Kindig makes some great stuff he passes Foose big time.
The biggest lawsuit that I read that they had was a customer brought in a basically brand new car that was from the dealership and they wanted several different customizations to the car and car was totaled because of these guys didn't do anything correctly so they had to have it completely redone by another shop

Yeah they are, but they send a lot of work to other people, and they have a RUclips channel with the same feel of a tv episode, but a lot shorter and stuff; still, nothing interesting to see there
These place was the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” of the car enthusiast community. Looked good from a distance but it was nonfunctional and fell apart in the driveway.
This happens to all car audio shops, they usually take someone young in the field and exploit their passion for custom, capitalizing on their work ethic and loyalty to getting the job done. Bringing their mentality to a no room for error ideology, or the installer has to pay for it. Just think about it, while the shop makes 100.00 per radio install, and after 200plus installs later, if an accident happens and a 400.00 dashboard is cracked, the shop wants to put the bill on the installer or terminate them if they don’t agree to pay for it. While most installers have OCD, when it comes to having any to no accidents on their record.
Overworked and underpaid, sounds about like most of the shops I worked at back in the day.
I really thought the owner Ryan, didn't know anything about cars he was just a bad bullshitter.

I was in the auto aftermarket custom/candy industry for quite a while and his stuff was just north of decals and Walmart lights unfortunately. Really very little actual true custom work that he did and most was outsourced it appears. He's probably alright from the creative side but this industry is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration and your craftsmen are the life blood in this business. If you mistreat them, the end is near. Talented employees are tough to find and often hard to keep as other quality shops are always looking and the guys know it. Success obviously went to his and was as unmanaged as the production side so someone should have told him to hire to his weaknesses, pay them well, encourage their talents and you both will shine.

My buddy got his car done by them. They did shit work and over charged crazy prices. They banked off their tv show. They were never going to last. He waited 8 months for a job that should have taken them a week.
Another case of, "pimped rides", and "whips", leading shops to build flash cars that don't age at all. These guys were always money motivated, not real creative car builders. You'll find there shit at Copart auction next year.

I think celebrities figured the dealership could install tinted windows, wheels and sound system for a fraction of the price WCC was charging. Why would you pay Ryan 40k for a lift kit and wheels on your Toyota Tundra when the dealer could just mark up the price a couple of thousand and do it for you.
So I watched a long as video saying it knows why it stopped then asked us at the very end do u know like tf

I work for a brand of auto part often used on builds like these. I've actually been on a similar show to WCC and been on the set of others. The builds *RARELY* finish on time. It's not just WCC. Additionally, when they finally unveil the vehicle, it's often not actually finished. The crew takes the vehicle back after filming, moves onto another car that's being filmed, and the first car will get buttoned-up weeks or sometimes months later.
First and most important rule in business. Always Always take care of your employees. They will make or brake you. In this case WCC is on borrowed time. Big mistake bigger consequence.
I watched a few episodes and saw the abuse of the employees. Every project had too short of timeframes. I get that this creates drama for reality shows, but you could tell that he’s a screwup in terms of managing his shop. The workers seem like great people. What a bad boss.

you cant expect every member of the shop to be perfect every time . A mistake gets made , there was no other time to use . There was no redo potential and Ryan would continue to book jobs he couldnt meet deadlines for.
I think a lot of car manufacturers are coming out with factory higher technologies and the aftermarket scene isn’t need as much as it was in the early 90s early 2000s. Thus leading to less work.
As a now retired car audio installer, I remember watching a few of the shows much like a dog tilts is head at high pitch noises.
I knew this show was a fluke. Ryan isn’t doing his job as a boss and now look what happens; all the celebrities don’t like the company no more

You're correct, as I often visit friends drive up there from San Clemente. I never see anything moved around. The Shop is washed up..
That's all it really was once they made it to the top. A made for TV production studio.
I believe the celebrities has moved on to driving real super cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, etc. The novelty of a pimped out custom car has dried up. As they’re seen as ridiculous boy racer cars as seen on the fast & furious.

Wtf…
Show and industry died because new cars of any real value, mostly those purchased by celebrities and rich people, are completely hooked up and amazing right from the factory. Unless you’re a tuner, the car is perfect “as is” when you take delivery from the dealer.
Being someone that worked in the CUSTOM industries for some years. I find it funny how people always get butt hurt on time lines not being met. I get it, as a customer if your told your cars gonna be done by said time, you expect it. But if your getting some over the top custom project, delays happen. Shop is having to outsource work and that shop might have an issue. Which now messes up your time line. COMMUNICATION is what needs to happen. If the shop is up front with what’s going on, you can’t hate. If you feel like your being dicked around well there’s plenty of custom shops in the world. But I also agree that the tv cars are not always what they are cracked up to be. You see flaws and such all the time. But also remember they are under contract to provide content for the show. So I’m sure some projects are just slapped together right quick for content. Now we would just hope that when the cameras are away those loose ends get patched up. Lastly all I have to say is there are always 2 sides to a story. I always enjoyed the show for the creativity and just like seeing crazy projects as I’d never be able to afford that. But also understand at the end of the day. It’s tv.. it’s only there for entertainment.
Oh and for the employees.. you don’t like the way your being treated at work and are being over worked. Find another job. Work for another shop. No ones holding a gun to your head saying you have to work there. You want the fancy shop, nice tools, air conditioned bays. Well all that cost money as well.

Among other things Discovery did was hire Jessi Combs, a professional car restorer- and wanted her to do cheezecake rather than get her hands dirty. She left. She died trying to go faster than any woman alive or dead. It might have been different if Jessi had been given a chance to do what she well knew how to do.
@@fredericrike5974 didn't jessi also work on Mythbusters or something similar doing wild fab work
@@kjcorder I believe she also did "Girl's Garage" and another on off road cars and trucks.
Just out of curiosity, I went onto WCC's Twitter page to see that they were up to lately, and what is the first thing that I see? A hexagon profile pic and a tweet of them peddling NFTs.
$6 / hour ? No overtime pay ? Nope , I wouldn't even consider this shop for a job !

Stopped by the shop a couple years ago while in Burbank. Picked up some merch and ask if Ryan was there and they said yes. I ask if he could step downstairs to sign the shirt and say hi. He signed the shirt up stairs said wasn’t able step outta the office. Lost any interest in WCC after that. The signed shirt made a good dog bed.
He was probably busy. You sound entitled.
You expect him to drop what he is doing, rush down stairs to sign it in front of you? Give me a fucking break, you are lucky he even took the time to sign it.
I’ve never liked the guy. Watched a show once and he bullied a young welder/fabricator to nearly tears in front of the camera. Small guy, big ego.
wow are you kidding me ?!

I watched that episode!! Terrible If I still lived out there I would have showed up at the shop and tell him to say that to me.
Which episode is that?
It always seemed like they took on too many projects (Time clocks on the wall) and some builds were over the top.
