For a brooding hen, Tootie is amazingly calm when in close proximity to a human hand. That is testament to how trusting she must feel towards you! Awesome!
hrm. My buff orphington never stayed on top of her eggs. She would lay the egg, run over to the door where I come out of the house, and start making loud cackling noises until I came out and gave her some food. Then she would go off and free range and i would collect the egg.
She looks like a hen we had 30 years ago, she was always getting clucky so we built her a nest to sit in so she wasn't nesting in the garden. Always took the eggs from her, she'd come out after a day or two.
It's not good to let a brood hen go on with unfertilized eggs. Waste of energy, they don't lay eggs and don't eat much. Now if you want to hatch some eggs or introduce new chicks it's a different story.
Not sure about those breeds, but probably less likely to go broody. My barred rocks never did. Out of our 10 hens, only two have gone broody. Our silkie and one of our two orpingtons.
It was too hot of a day, so we did it early. We were worried she'd overheat, so we got her out early and dipped her in water that wasn't too cold. It worked and she snapped out of it! Tootie is a very sweet girl!
Pushing the egg with its head is so adorable.
She would make such a good mother, but we don't have a rooster!

You can clearly see that chickens are theropod dinosaurs! Its so obvious! 🦖👉🐔
Maybe 2D needs some golf balls. At least they won’t go bad, and she looks like she could stand to work on her putting game.

Any bird sitting on an egg in the evening gets kicked off it. I haven’t seen a broody bird yet. Not sure if I’m just lucky.
How long have you had chickens? What breed?
A few years. Astralops, novigens, bard rock, colorpak, dominant copper. Probably messed up on spelling. ^^

@@user-eh9uy3cr2pgive it time. My first year a barred went broody and still does every may. This fall an astralorp went broody for the first time

What's the breed??
Buff Orpington. We have 2 buffs, Tootie and Blair. Tootie is the sweeter of the two.
@@cluckin-a they're beautiful. I want to have buff orpington too someday.
Put the stock pot on the stove.
