Dude.. I bought this thing (the Air Locker) based solely on your video and it is one of the best and most useful niche tools I have ever used. I have (in the past) spent literal HOURS trying to take nails out of pallet for a repurposed wood project... this thing is absolutely awesome.. Thanks!!!
EYE PROTECTION BRO!.. my airlock tool's wonderful but those nails recherché out of the bucket all the time and my glasses have saved me more than once.... thanks for the video.
I have been taking pallets apart with the idea to build a chicken coop. The pallet buster works well most of the time, but it is a workout. I need the exercise anyway : )I saw this video a while ago and after using a hammer and prybars to dismantle a bunch of pallets, I was intrigued with the air locker de- nailer. I just got Harbor freight's smallest pancake compressor (on sale! $69.99), one of their hose and attachment kits, and after looking at others, an Air Locker de-nailer. I work outside over a tarp and saw horses and use a fishing magnet to pick up the nails because they go all over the place. Always have eye protection!! The video now makes me nervous to see you doing this without goggles. Really! I now have plans to cover my garage walls with pallet wood, and to make and sell some things too. Oh, I'm 68, and a mom, and a semi- retired Anthropology instructor.
Dude, your killing me. I 1st stumbled across your channel with your "Christmas gifts to get a raise" video. Then I watched a couple more, because I love good humor and woodworking...I do a little myself....that bike was cool. Then I got the idea to start at the beginning last night and tonight, your confession on how you found out about the air locker nail remover, priceless and extremely relatable. I'm gonna keep watching your videos, please keep putting them out as long as you can....and thank you for your service. Merry Christmas!
FallenOutlander thank you so much brother!!! Love hearing things like this, just makes my day. Awesome to hear a woodworker find my humor relatable. Merry Christmas
Four years later and I am finally seeing this video after taking apart a dozen pallets and gave up ever doing it again. Thanks for sharing. Now Im excited to get to work on my raise garden beds that will cost me nothing using the wood from my free pallets!!
Have been in the pallet business for 19 years. Entertaining video. 40 inch used pallet boards sell for 20-25¢. Routinely. Watching people do things the hard way is always interesting. If for no other reason than to see what they come up with. If I disassemble pallets "on the side" I take apart at least ten and sometimes twenty in one hour. The hard part is picking up all the boards. Tools like that are generally designed to remove damaged boards from a pallet that is being repaired. Even so, not what I would use. Too big/bulky. Not really criticizing honest effort. Advice would be to find pallets that you can take apart easily based on the method you are intending to use. That will involve some trial and error. Lots and lots of variables. Watch a bunch of videos and you're likely to pick up some tips. Picked up a good idea myself from a female dismantling pallets promoting a brand of dismantling blades. She was using the same method and tools I use but with an additional tool that I never really saw a need for but does make it a little easier and safer. Always room to learn something.
Duuude!!! I hit the thumbs up (something I never do) and it changed from 1.4 to 1.5. Something else that never happened before. I’m going to subscribe now for the grand prize!!
when i bust up a pallet i use a piece of 2x4, a short handle sledge hammer, and a couple 2x's to go parallel and on each side of the slat im knocking loose, i also cut the slats on one side both ends, but that is on the side with fewer slats, im wanting to get one of those busters. on denailing, i use a hammer, vice grips, and a flat pry bar, along with a nail i removed if the nail looks like its cut or just the head is stuck, wanna get one of those denailers.
Enjoyed your video. I have a wooden tough shed. Like the ones you see infront of Home Depot. I’d like to take it apart and move it to a new house. It’s all nails. Any good way to do it.
ty , your video was very helpful and done better than the guys who like to hear themselves talk. Q: how big of air compressor do you recommend and what brand ?
What size hose attachment do you need to use this cool thing? Do I need to get a particular type of air compressor, does it need to be a certain specification? 👍👍
Only a fellow veteran would play with shop tools like that. Army strong brother. Will be buying one of those little god sends. And yes I will use it occasionally to remove nails.
What is your method of removing nails in the bottom stringer boards? When I remove the board on the top it leaves about 1/2 inch of twisted nail showing. I use a prybar and pop off the top of the nail, leaving the rest of the nail in the wood I want. Any suggestions?
Thanks...i am doing old wood business..i need the nail removing machine..i am disappointed infront of headless naila... let me know about the machine.. which is the best brand..help me to buy one..i can't understand where from i can buy
May be you can show us if the air gun can be used to nail nails into the wood. No just as a pistol. Some pallets are supported in the middle by something like 4" X 4" X4" block. The blue weapon cannot grip it well. Any suggestion removing the block?
Unfortunately you can’t use it as a nail gun. Just not that safe to do it. Also I know exactly the block your talking about and it’s just a pain in the butt. I just hit them with a hammer once I get to them.
@@KomarProject I don't have a 20 lb hammer to play around here. So I improvise. I have a jigsaw, so may be a jigsaw can cut the 4x4x4 block from the long board. I then get a blade for hand saw, those blue blade 1cm x 30cm long. I use an angle grind to cut it to about 8 inches long, shape one end of it so it can be fit onto a jigsaw. So, here it is, a jigsaw with a weeble wobble blade. Since it is the thinnest blade possible to put between the 4x4x4 block and the wood board, separating them apart becomes possible. For punching out the nails from the pointy end, since i don't have the air gun like yours, I learned from the other guy on youtube to use a SDS hammer drill. The hammering action can kick the nail into the wood but not as fast as the air gun.
Good video. Thanks for sharing.... ... If you don't have pallets to spare, if they're hard for you to get and bring home, you don't want them splitting on you. For this reason I caution, not all pallets should be taken apart the same way. Some pallets are cheap and break easily, and for that reason should not be pried apart or hammered apart. For that kind I recommend a recip saw and leave the old nails in. The pallets he has in the video are made of thicker, higher quality wood, than some others. But if you have heavy duty pallets, this is great, especially the nail remover. I gotta get me one of those. ;)
Escape From NY escape thanks for the comment. Yes these pallets in the video were really good. I did use a saw back in the day but kept going through blades, but it’s for sure a good way to break down too. The nail remover is awesome. Highly recommend it.
Have you tried using the sawsall to cut the boards off and then use the air gun to remove the nails? I didn't know how much of the nail needs to be sticking out for it to work. Just a thought. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I wish i new where you guys get these high quality pallets from. The ones i always get have about a million nail screws in and i end up having to cut threw them with a pry bar

Love to see him do this with a Pallet that has been used for a couple of years and repaired a Few Times where you can have 10-15 twist nails in each part of the slat all nailed at various Angles giving you anything up to 40 nails per slat. It's Strange that all these Pallet Dismantling Videos only use New Pallets with 3-4 nails per part of the slat giving you 9-12 nails total Nailed Perfectly Vertical and strangely enough they all seem to be straight nails with not a Twist or Ring nail in sight
bigniper I have taken apart all sorts of pallets, and with all kinds of nail configurations. Sometimes you have to work a bit harder to get them apart but it’s the same kind of process for me. Even twisted and bent nails can be removed with the air locker. Just have to straighten out a bit.

Nice fun video. I saw that you sent Paul Jackman one of those Air Lockers and he shot nails out of his too, LOL Great minds think alike. I think the eye protection came out a bit too late, probably should have had it on when you were punching out the nails. Take it from a guy who had to have a metal sliver removed from his eye. Stay safe my friend.
PhunKiss Artistic Creations omg I just saw this comment. Paul and I actually were talking about the airlocker in NY and I sent him one since he didn’t have one. I was shocked he didn’t have it lol.
I don't suggest hitting the flats directly with a hammer, use a 4"-6" scrap block of wood against the stretcher and using the scrap, strike the block for even force
1. Please wear goggles when playing with nail guns. Little boys who don't wear eye protection should not be playing with guns. 2. Please get rid of the music. This is a demo and DIY, not a Star Wars movie. Music hurts the ears, is very unpleasant, and supremely annoying. 3. The clowning around, funny faces, silly behavior - save that for a kid's Christmas party. Try to move quickly thru and not waste time. You are either doing comedy or DIY, not both. 4. The nail puller is overkill and breaking the wood. It is not meant for salvaging wood, but instead for taking out damaged wood to be replace on a pallet. It breaks wood, not a good toy. 5. The number of ads crammed into the video is ridiculous! Now I know why you clown around making it longer. More ads. Not cool. 6. The air gun nail remover by contrast, is excellent! Glad I saw it. This makes the whole video worthwhile. I never knew this existed and super glad to have seen it here. Many thanks!
Ha ,You'er referring to little boys while you're the one whining about everything .As for telling him to do DIY or Comedy but not both - Sorry God ,he can do both. You don't have to watch and then become a Karen. And ".Music hurts the ears " ..just turn in your Man Card. now.
There is no doubt that the air tool is the way to go to get the nails out but they can be dangerous because they can ricochet. So first of all you need safety glasses. Second of all use a deep bucket. I actually use a garbage can. Finally an old blanket or towel in the bottom of the garbage can will further prevent bouncing back. I also recommend a good pair of gloves to prevent splinters or nail pokes if you grab where you shouldn’t.
no kidding the nail removal can be time consuming. i need one of those air tools gizmos. two years ago i broke down fifty pallets and made a lot of scrap firewood of the slats. i used a 5/16" pipe to keep the staples from bending over from the hammer. It sure didn't help my tendonitis.... but i could re-use the nails and that saved several dollars in materials. I now have forty planters for the price of going to get free pallets at the trailer factory down the road a bit.
Your target practice took me back to my cabinet shop days as a teen. I worked for Charlie, who was married with five kids. Charlie was an alcoholic who cheated on his wife and would bring his woman to the shop to his little office cubical. It had no ceiling so we would wire the safety back on the staple guns and fire away over his cubical. He had no clue and never remembered the next day anyway. Some of us never grow up...…..LOL
Man i wish i could afford one of the nail removing guns i have around 50 pallets to take apart. After years of over doing it in construction (34 years) i hurt my lower back and now I'm on disability so i can't do much a day
Love this channel and your energy! Thanks for the advice.

Not going to reiterate what others say. I will only say: be safe. (Shooting those nails out like your in Call of Duty - Kill Shots!!! LOL)
Life With A Table Full hahaha I have gotten better too lol
It's all fun and game till some one looses an eye!!!
Yup lol
Your target practice took me back to my cabinet shop days as a teen. I worked for Charlie, who was married with five kids. Charlie was an alcoholic who cheated on his wife and would bring his woman to the shop to his little office cubical. It had no ceiling so we would wire the safety back on the staple guns and fire away over his cubical. He had no clue and never remembered the next day anyway. Some of us never grow up...…..LOL
Hahaha great times
Man i wish i could afford one of the nail removing guns i have around 50 pallets to take apart. After years of over doing it in construction (34 years) i hurt my lower back and now I'm on disability so i can't do much a day
Wayne Sligar they are on sale now now $48. It’s definitely worth it.
