fyi, for hard wood pallets many times the nails don't want to come out of the stringers. So what I do is spray the whole pallet down with water, let sit for about 30 minutes, then disassemble. The water soaks into the nail wholes and helps to lubricate - far fewer broken ends this way

This is what I'm gonna say.... 1. Screw the pallet Buster 2. Screw the saw method 3. Screw pry bars and shit like that.
You sir have just showed a simple method ( very effective ) at taking pallets apart. And it didn't cost me anything in terms of a stupid tool hanging around after the job is done!!
This is hands down the simplest method I have seen.
    THANK YOU

  • @hendersonharewood7123

Those pallets you used are selected. You should demonstrate with differently made pallets and of different wood. There's a particular reddish looking wood which can even bend nails and the nails are very difficult to remove from it. Twisted nails are also used in some pallets which make it difficult. Some nails are either bent or bent and embedded in the pallets for rigidity and strength.

That is absolute genius!!! Simple and elegant solution instead of all these tools that smash the wood! Wow. So impressed. Just a block of wood and hammer. Happy day!!
Now I will give you a tip - use the Air Lock air nail remover gun with a small compressor. The 6 gal Porter Cable pancake compressor at 150 psi will do the job. Just shoot out those nails from the back and its very fast. Forget the claw hammer or crow bar. Thank you for the great tip about tapping the nails off, genius!

Thank for that. You can use the rusty nails to make your own wood stain.
Put them in vinegar. Allow to sit for a week or so. Then take out a table spoon full and mix with more vinegar test for desired color. You can get really dark stain or really light depending on how light you mix at the end.
    Happy creating.

After mixing w/ vinegar, what then? You just "paint" rusty vinegar on the wood as a water-based stain or are there other steps?

Who would have thought to dismantle upside down but it seems to work great.
I only use pallet wood for kindling and a fire pit for the cut off nailed ends with cheap block spacers (sadly no 2 X 4's unfortunately in UK types) different to US pallets which have loads of spare wood.

Really great way of dismantling a pallet… definitely gonna be trying this!
Something else I find really useful is one of those cheap mechanics’ magnetic dishes, so you can toss the nails in as you remove them. Especially if working on your driveway or in your garage, you don’t want any risk of nails on the ground for your tyres to find :)

For the real stubborn nails one can use a Reciprocating saw if you have one or a hack saw. Wedge the blade between the two planks and cut. Remove end of the nails with a punch and hammer.
