      We had sensors like the wheel speed sensor on computers to detect shaft speeds 50 years ago and the sensor put out pulses and we used an oscilloscope to read them. A Digital VOM will read a voltage on the AC voltage scale as the input voltage to the VOM on the AC input is converted to DC to give the voltage display. With the old analog VOM you could read the sensor signal on the DC voltage scale and you would notice the needle on the scale vibrating and that would indicate a pulsating voltage.

    Warren, these Paccar MX13 engines have a flaw with the air compressor gear train failing, causing metal to contaminate the engine. If you ever have one of these out, it may be a good insurance policy to change it. I’ve seen them fail 400-500k.

    Do the European designed MX engines hold up to the high constant load cyle of U.S. trucking? Early MBZ Freightliners had cylinder block failures.

    • @scubasteve7946
      @scubasteve7946 2 месяца назад

      Their CGI blocks have problems with letting the liners wear and drop, causing head gasket failures. The EPA-17 series was notorious for the pressed on cam lobes for spinning on the cam and failing.
      The current EPA 21 are having tremendous injector failure problems due to design flaws.
      The EPA-13 has been regarded as the best series for reliability.
      But overall, if you sort through those problems or dodge them, they've been pretty good for longevity. The trouble is the proprietary software and the company holding it hostage over mechanics such as Warren here. IMHO they should support their customers and provide access to the software as part of their customer service program rather than treating their customers like mushrooms. But unfortunately most modern mfgs are like that.

    The thing is, do we agree in principle with the reasons for the rules ? for instance, smog reduction, if we agree that is a necessity, then you have to have the rules to ensure it happens. The trouble is that everybody seems to think it does not apply to them ! Of course the population has to agree that to get towards a smog free state,the cost of everything that moves must go up hugely, but of course everyone thinks that does not apply to them either ! So I suppose the logical end result must be that no-one with a normal income can live in California, and those that can afford it, can't get anyone to do anything for them !

    The only reason why California would implement frequent smog inspections on trucks is because so many people are running deleted trucks and with once a year inspections owners could still make them compliant once a year to pass without too much inconvenience. Quarterly inspections would make deleted trucks a thing of the past in the state.

    • @westerntruckandtractorrepa1353
      @westerntruckandtractorrepa1353  2 месяца назад +9

      Well what's the purpose of a delete, it's not an act of rebellion it's breaking them, so when you make deleted trucks a thing of the past, no more trucks, except like everything else in America the large government subsidized ones can afford to buy 3 trucks and driver that can only do the work of 1 deleted truck.
