That video title made me laugh. A kid from the neighborhood wanted to mow my grass. After a while I saw him cranking on my mower that starts first or second pull. I took the gas cap off and said to him,”It ain’t got no gas in it” in my best Carl voice. The kid looked at me like why are you talking like that? Anyway again I thank you for your videos.
Been there done that. Never did run out of gas when I was dating. Darn it! I agree about road traffic, the worst part of going to wrecks was traffic. Even in a rural area people didn't give a crap. Although, there was this one lady who wouldn't slow down at the scene and unfortunately she didn't see the State Trooper sitting there at the wreck either.
Watching you work on the side of the road…..my hats off to you in many, many ways. I like to think people just are clueless and haven’t been taught the safety courtesy etiquette to move over (if safe) when you see a vehicle stopped along side the road. Maybe, safety triangles would help? Maybe! Stay safe out there.
Well sir, I have had the sad experience of faulty fuel gage readings, embarrassing to be run out of fuel, not to mention frustrating as all get out, then add a starter going down, like that young man had happen to him, that be like dumping salt on an open wound. Nice save Warren, be as safe as you can out there sir, thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Working in that traffic is crazy, you wonder if some of the bastards WANT to hit someone. Appreciate the videos and the harsh environment you work in.👍🏻
Thank you for the video Warren,👍 I can't believe how many stupid bastards flying past not giving a wide berth like there's anything heading towards them on the other lane, and yes I'm one them who's guilty of ran out of fuel because gauge said half full,.
Warren,oh ya, done that before, and it’s always a pisser when some people dare us with closeness, anyway, hope to help us finish the Cummins, see ya then.
You're right Warren. While you were filling I think I saw a Flatbed truck and 4-5 cars not even lay over past the yellow line with no traffic coming. From someone who has stood on an interstate with construction trucks, people don't realize the danger you put your self in working along the road.
Drove a 2010 Pete a few years back that returned fuel to the passenger tank but wouldn't equalize to the driver side. Just got lucky to catch it. It would actually overfill the passenger tank and run the driver empty. That traffic not moving over is bullshit! Good vid Warren
Can’t stand working on side of the road, people can be so inconsiderate, I feel bad for anyone that has to deal with that daily. Oh well least it wasn’t the pump, none of us are perfect nor can we say we haven’t had it happen before. Thanks for the video
Warren, Back in the Eighties, a local trucking company s owners son took a load to New Jersey with his KW Cabover with an 8V92 in it and when he woke up the ext day at the reciever, the truck would crank normally, but wouldn't start. He said it had plenty of fuel in it, so his dad sent a wrecker 500 miles with another truck on the hook for him and brought the broke down one back home to the Detroit Diesel branch. They didn't have it for an hour, and they called him and said it was fixed and ready to pick up. All they did was put a whole lot of oil back in it(the kid had been idling it all the time and wasn't checking the oil). I know how much you like Detroit Diesels, haha.
I've done this recently. Fuel it up, air it up with your compressor. Hook it up to your rig with a chain and tow start it. Need two people. But at least you can get it back to the shop to work on. Good job man
Those tansfer pumps can be a real pain in the ass. The old crossover line on the bottom of the tanks were the way to go, bullet proof but DOT in all their wisdom outlawed them. Hey I did some dumb shit in my day and still do. Man that traffic is brutal.
Warren , I saw a logging truck pull into the other lane for you , so that was pretty cool . you called that fuel problem right off the bat , also pretty cool your the man . thanks
Warren, those tank vents are FREAKING HORRIBLE! I've had more problems with the vents plugging and since they only have one fuel tank sender now, more than once I've had a driver run out, or more commonly, get real close, all because the vent plugged
My Pete luckily has a switch to select which tank the gauge reads, I always know when one is fuller than the other that I need to blow the tank vent out. Seems like one to two times a week I have to do that
I was going to suggest that he check the tank vents also. I had a driver run out of fuel with one tank completely full. As far as the people moving over, I had an old tow truck driver tell me it used to be common for them to toss a 4x4 out into the lane of traffic to get people to slow down while they were hooking up. They would probably charge you with manslaughter these days.
I had my ratchet do the same thing. I took it apart and the switch level inside was worn out and had a very little grease. You might get away with just adding some grease and it might start working better.
I feel your pain working on the side of the road while no one moves over. I had one road call on the side of interstate 5 in Tacoma, had to change a fuel filter on a Volvo & had to crawl under the truck from the driver side & the truck was sitting on the fog line. I’d have to wait till the lane was clear to crawl out & hope no one switched lanes while I was crawling out.
G'day, Warren! Enjoyed the video! Great job! (going out, and rescuing a loaded log truck on the side of the road.) Plus! I thought you we're going to say something like... It got so bad, finally I had to take his bike away. Lol! 🤣
Changed a starter on a truck like that, top bolt was hermetically sealed in.... 3/4 drive adapted to socket n 2 ft of extension 3 ft breaker bar gallon of brake clean to clean grease off, torch to warm bolt, and a chipped tooth to get out
I cringed every time a vehicle passed... whew. Not for the faint of heart! My '99 F350 left me stranded a few times due to running out of fuel. Well, the foot on the pickup broke off so I still had a 1/4 tank but couldn't get to it. Took a while to figure that one out.
Be safe warren , years ago guy rear end me working side highway , he was eating fries and drinking coffee while driving , he burn his nuts in the crash and two children where in back seats , he went that far below the truck we had crane lift the truck off his roof ass holes , 😂
If I pulled off on the shoulder the fuel would run to the R tank, and I would run out of fuel. The truck was pulling from the L side. I told the shop to change to pull from the low side, the R side!
same thing happened to me in a farly new truck . the baffel came lose and wedge under the gage . . put fuel in 1 tank and shout off other tank . after fulling both tank had truble with getting air , switch vale was leaking
