Love doing my own bike maintenance. When you're done it's like you want it and nobody can say that you don't know your bike. And you know what you have and what makes it work. Total satisfaction.
Red, here's a realistic answer to your rhetorical question, "Why am I so stupid?" Others should be as stupid!" You are exceptionally knowledgable and clever. Great seeing Loki again! His supervision is certainly critical to your success!
Great job Miss Angel. Don't be mad at me I was pairing socks while you were doing the brakes and bearings. Not to many years ago I was rebuilding an older Indian and found cracked races in the rear wheel. Whomever had attempted an axle swap years before just crushed the seats pressing races in. Ever since I always pull bearings of unknowns to check for sure. You are lucky to be following your Dad. I'm hoping he's the one to kick this one over and take the first ride. You are doing a fine job and It makes me feel safer on the road knowing there's wrenches like you out there. With Respect, you are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Red, it takes a lot of practice and determination to get it right. 90% of success is the trial and error. It’s not stupid, it’s the path to satisfaction. Good video, thanks for posting.
Red you are a real bike enthusiast. I enjoy watching you not be a poser like several of the other woman having everything done for them. Pretending they have a clue
Attention to even the smallest details and going the extra mile avoids pesky problems down the road. Just doing that silicone trick is a prime example! Course now a days fewer and fewer people work on their own rides anymore. Old bikes were built to last and everyone for the most part could do some of the wrenching on their bikes or had a friend who could help them out. You do some fine wrenching in your garage. Keep it going! Great video! Stay warm and safe up in your beautiful B.C.!
Hi 👋, Red, The mechanic, Very nice job, I’m sure we will not tell anybody that you use the kitchen sink to clean your bike bits, 😂, , I/we all are looking 👀 forward to seeing the next stage of your rebuild, Stay safe, ride Free Spirit, Phil from the moulin,
Hey Red, nothing is more important than brakes on your bike, so good job on cleaning your parts carefully before re-assembly. You might consider using a dremel with a brass brush to really get all signs of corrosion out before washing. Might save you some scrubbing when you get to the sink, and insure you smooth the surfaces as smooth as you can get them. Anyway, great job, and great to see your little black featherd helper in the garage too. Winter in Canada eh?
Another great video Angel! I love the way you do close-ups and are so methodical in the process. I was also glad to see Loki at the end, haven't seen him for awhile, and I was too scared to ask !
Thanks Mike!! Loki has been spending lots of time out in “the wild” and I think it might not be too long before he stops coming home at all 🥺 But he’s free to choose and he belongs outdoors with other birds.
Pretty cool video. Those brakes are crazy looking but I had never seen any apart before. My wife allows projects to be cleaned in the kitchen sink. We rebuilt her carbs (and many other sets) on the kitchen table!
Great job Red! Replacing wheel bearings for me is a whole ritual: I grow a little nails, so that after replacing the bearings there is not much black grease under them, because after replacing for another week my hands look like the hands of a miner. But it doesn't bother me 😂
Good tip about the silicone. And dot 5 Need to do the rear caliper on my 04 sportster. Never had anything with dot 5 fluid before man it's expensive! Glad I checked before I just put dot 4 in it. Lol
Thanks Angel. i was wondering if you have a parts cleaner station. That might save trips to the kitchen sink and might save the kitchen sink. lol. Thats great you take such good care of your bikes. You did a nice job of filming the details of your maintenance. Mellow laid back music on your video. Cheers.
I have a parts cleaning station but its just crowed in my garage so its not the most accessible. And I sis these in the sink because I use the SOS pad and need to rinse that soap away. The SOS pads are nice for aluminum because they are really fine steel wool and the soap in them acts as a lubricant.
Angel. You had them 99% removed. You should have pulled the bearings out of the races, cleaned them in solvent, took a good look at them, and then checked them for smoothness, burn marks, grooves, etc; and then packed them properly with fresh grease. You are hoping they are OK. You do not know for sure. Timken tapered roller bearings will last a Very longtime with proper maintenance. Great job on the brakes. To be honest I always hated the old banana calipers and considered them a step above Fred Flinstone brakes! LOL. The brakes on my 1984 Shovel are light years ahead of the old Banana calipers. Oh well, you know about opinions, LOL!
Hahah my dad was saying those brakes are a poor design also, but its what we got. And we are also trying to go for an era correct look with this bike. And the bearing were removed and checked by my bro before, but I think I will take them out again just to double check. 👍 🙂
Red, great job on the brakes, I know they can be finicky. I just came across a new vlog on youtube storyhive. Megan Kaptein is doing a new series called Trailblazers. It's interviews with individual female riders in the Vancouver BC area.
You should check your bearing clearance while you have those wheels apart !! You need to invest in a parts washer...believe me it is money well spent 😘✌
He usually is eating scrambled eggs, raw beef, corn, and cashews he really loves. He also likes eating some bread and whole grain chips. He pretty picky lol, but he likes to try whatever I’m eating. Then doesn’t eat haha.
Hello Angel I never thought tell today but Shadetree Surgeon is giving away a last year shovelhead bike through Forgotten Angels. If not to late it only costs $25.00 for a chance to win and if lucky would be a great reason for strip down there in the spring and ride back. I know that Bert’s Harley shops offer a flight to buy a bike but can’t remember if it’s done for this cause as well.

Angel you are special girl. The fact that you are willing to clean bike parts in the house, let alone in the sink, makes you one in a million. Demon
I guess its partially a product of being raised by a single dad. haha. Thanks
