      I'm not sure exactly how this game is played this is the first video I've seen of it.
      However there is a game called WorldBox on phone and pc that lets you place little humans/elves/dwarves/orcs on land, you can play god throwing destructive scenarios at them or let them build and develop.
      It's gotten pretty intricate over the time I watched it's development.
      I don't know how related this gameplay might be to this game but it could possibly scratch and itch for you lol

    When you put a farm next to a river how do you make it so it doesn’t place dirt over the water? Manually just selecting the land and removing the water or is it an option? because I accidentally made a chunk of farmland on the water

    • @vetinarius
      @vetinarius  Месяц назад +3

      There is deep water and shallow water, you can place farms over the shallow water and it gets removed, but not over the deep water.
      If you also want to avoid the shallow water, you need to place your farms carefully, afaik there is no other way.

    I've been building my colonies very compact and close together. At like, 500 pops, I'm usually taking up less than 1/6 of my map space, largely because I'm oddly squeamish about expanding outward like this here, where you started building across the river and at that spot north.
    Is this unfounded? My concern is that if i try to build farther out, then goods won't be effectively transported. Like, i have ore deposits on the other side of a mountain. So I've tunneled in, and started mining. But it's probably about 200 squares or more away from my city. So I built some houses in the mountain for workers. Then I thought "well if I have houses, they'll need amenities." So then I had to build a well, and a hearth, market and food stall. Plus a warehouse. And now I'm wondering if they'll he able to get food over there, or if I have to build a hunter or balticrawler pen... 😂
    Is just building stuff out away from my city center okay? Am I concerned about nothing? Lol

    • @vetinarius
      @vetinarius  2 месяца назад +8

      Your example about the ore deposit is exactly how those new districts came to be. I crossed the river so i could have more farmland. Yes, there will be inefficiencies when it comes to transporting goods, but thats much better than your workers needing half a day to go to work.
      You just need more warehouse workers later on, if you research the tech that lets people carry more goods and set some goods to be fetched the logistics are not that bad.
      The game is very forgiving, just try things out! You'll find that almost every setup can work!

    • @aracaniusinfinius2880
      @aracaniusinfinius2880 Месяц назад +1

      Farming takes time to ramp up into a viable food source. You need to rely on hunters and fisheries in the early game, using ranching to buy time until you can trade or make enough furniture to build the hunting lodge and/or fishery. Alternatively, you can manually hunt the livestock on the map to build a stockpile for your city to sit on until you can get food sources up and running. Good luck!

      @@TilDrillFisheries are the key. Try to set up small fishery right when you start, as well as one hunter. then start making your citizens happy so you can get more people to work. Focus on pretty much food only until you see a stockpile of like 10 days. It gets harder to geqt large food stockpiles as your settlement gets huge. When you start growing put another hunter really close to one of a herds on the map.

    • @edersonnico
      @edersonnico Месяц назад

      A good rule of thumb is having around half your population producing food in the early game. If you have good bonuses and technology you can lower that quite a lot.
      Usually farms produce more in the long term but they produce only once in a year and are subject to rng and need a good soil fertility or irrigation.
      Pastures, fisheries and hunters are more consistent with a steady income but usually produce a bit less compared with farms.
      Personally I find gathering not worth it the use of manpower to do it. It seems as an option to get an initial batch to plant instead of buying or if you a small amount of something specific like opium. Hunting those wandering animals is more profitable in an emergency.
      Remember that everything depends of your species and climate too. And if you have good access to stuff like fertile soil, rivers, etc.
